mic not working after windows update

Q: mic not working after windows update

I have recently downloaded the windows 10 October update. ever since then my mic hasn't been working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all my drivers. to add on the Realtek HD audio manager program has been removed and when I try to reinstall it doesn't open. I have reported this problem to windows support. they were with me and tried to solve my problem. they then said to contact my motherboard company as it was not their issue. they tried all of their options and to the best of their ability. my motherboard company told be to use a spare harddrive to backup my stuff and then clean start my pc with new windows. I am unable to do so. please give me other suggestions.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have unintentionally put my laptop back to factory settings and am now back to windows 8.
The windows update isn't working and I can't seem to do anything. I keep searching for updates to download and install but it then says the standalone windows installer is not working either.
Does anyone know how to get around this as I am stuck on windows 8 and I cannot download any games or anything.

Win 7 64 Windows Update not working (post migration), nor is Windows Update Readiness tool installing. I have renamed catroot and stopped services, nothing working. I just migrated HD to a hybrid solid state (Seagate Momentus). I had this problem both with Acronis 2009 and Acronis 2013, and Windows Backup would not create a recoverable partition (always said file not available about 30% through the recovery). I have installed the Intel IDE ATA drivers, and scoured the help topics. I have tried everything. I could really use some help.

The error I receive when attempting to install the Windows Update Readiness Tool is:

"Installer encountered an error: 0xc8000247"

The Microsoft FixIt and Control Panel FixIt says it has fixed the problem, but Update does not work. Nothing is working, but the OS is healthy, the disk is healthy. The sfc/scannow doesn't reveal any corrupted components.

I followed all of these instructions before attempting to install the Windows Update Readiness Tool:

Windows Update Service and Windows Module Installer Service are the two basic services responsible for all your updates to install correctly.

If Windows Updates are failing, then my first step would be to check if these two services are running.
Windows Update Service enables the detection, download, and installation of updates for Windows and other programs. If this service is disabled, users of this computer will not be able to use Windows Update or its automatic upda... Read more

Hello,

I've got a Dell laptop here that isn't functioning properly. I can't get this to work for the life of me! I am currently using this laptop with a different hard drive, it's the install on the SSD that doesn't work. I know that the quick fix would be to simply reload windows, but I don't want the quick fix.

Basically, laptop works with Windows 7 install on a hard drive, no issues. On the SSD, where the ONLY applications loaded are Office 2013 and Firefox (and all the latest updates), the internet does not work (I can ping yahoo.com and get a response, so DNS is fine). The problem persists on IE and Firefox. I have no AV software other than MSE, and the problem persists in Safe Mode w/ networking. The hosts file is clean. The internet worked on the computer just fine when I loaded it, I hadn't used the SSD in a while and when I popped it in, the internet wasn't working. I believe something is getting in the way of port 80, but I can't figure out what. I have disabled all startup applications and all nonwindows services. The computer does not have bonjour. I have cleared history/cookies to no avail. I can't find anything suspicious in the running processes. I can't seem to turn off the windows antimalware process to test that, though.

Any ideas?

I decided to run hijack this and found two BHO's. It's funny that on my new install that I used a handful of times, I have adware, but on this install that's been going for years, I have nothing. Oh well. So I had "Crossrider" and "Coupon Companion". I removed all traces of both, yet still no go. It looks like this managed to install itself on 12/2... which had to be damn close to the date that I bought the SSD, however, I had internet activity as recent as 12/26. The message "Working on updates 12%" has been hanging on the screen for the last 12 hours on my desktop pc.

I had the same problem, though at a different point in the update process, with my laptop.

I had to abandon the update on my laptop and reinstall.

Do I have to go through all that a gain with my Desktop?

I'm very frustrated and thinking of reverting to Windows 7.

Does anyone have some suggestions to correct the stalled update procedure.

Hi Similar to other posts I have had this problem, but have been unable to solve it. I have updated the drivers, disabled and re-enabled the fingerprint reader device, removed my set of fingerprint scans, and tried setting up the new ones, either by creating a new account and/or PIN before starting the scan (Windows Hello then doesn't continue with the setup sequence), and by doing the scans and then creating the PIN (Window Hello exits without saving the scans or PIN). As suggested on other posts, it may be a problem with how the fingerprint works with the PIN, but in my case does not seem to be solvable. I have tried removing all cached information via the BIOS. Is there anything else I can try other than just hoping future updates will sort the problem?John P70, Xeon E3-1505 v5, 20ERCTO1WWWindows 10 Home 64-bit, version 1703, build 15063.54Finger print reader driver Synaptics WBDI(SGX enabled) version 5.1.325.26

Hello, my Windows Update is not working: it returns the error 80073712. It has been like this for several months. I tried to do sfc /scannow but it says: "beginning system scan. This process will take some time" and 2 seconds after it says "Windows Resource Protection could not preform the requested operation". My Windows Help and Support doesn't work either as well as my Windows Features (when I open "Turn Windows features on and off" it returns a blank box). I also tried the "Windows6.1-KB947821-v27-x86.msu" but it does not repair the error. I also scanned my system with Malwarebytes Antimalware and avast! to see if it was a malware or virus but i do not find anything.

In the other hand, my date and time is working as well as my search box.

I do not know what I have to do.
I have a Windows 7 Ultimate x86.
Thank you for your help

I've been going around with this for a while now and I can't figure out what is going on. WU consistenly errors out on me when I try to download updates and system restore will no longer restore to any older points. I've also noticed that running all of the Microsoft Diskfix tools has somehow managed to lower my SSD space in the neighbourhood of 27 GB and I'd like to get that back. I don't even know where to start so can someone point me in the right direction. I've run every diagnostic tool and everything should be working. Safe mode doesn't help either. I have research online and in this forum, but haven't come up with a solution that has worked. I have a Asus laptop - Windows 8.1 - and haven't made any changes to my system or added programs. A:Windows 7 Update Not Working

- Yep, you're not the only one. We had LOTS of Windows Update problems.
- First we need to confirm it's a "Windows Update" problem. Open "Task Manager" (Processes tab) and make sure it displays ALL the processes. Open Task Manager (Services tab), highlight the Service "Wuauserv", right click, select "Go To Process". Task Manager opens the "Processes" tab again and highlights a process. If that process is "Svchost.exe" and it uses A LOT OF CPU then you've got a Windows Update problem.
- Keep us/me posted.

Hello. I upgraded from Windows 8 to 10. It worked fine. I upgraded some drivers as per HP's recommendations and that is where my problems started.  I was prompted to restart and did so. Upon start up, my computer showed the HP logo and then went to a black screen and would not go further. After I restarted, I was able to go into a sort of system recovery.  I did not do anything there or run any diagnositics. When I exit it though, it brings me to a Windows screen. It says my Windows did not shut down properly. I tried all the options available with the same result. I therefore decided to re-install Windows 10 as it was one of the choices. Once Windows 10 re-installed itself, my computer went into something resembling sleep mode. When I tried to "wake it up", the tower and fans started up but my screen recieved no signal. I did a hard reboot. Now when I start it, the light and fans are running, power is reaching the tower. However, my screens are dark and not receiving a signal. Also now my keyboard, which is the one that came with it, seems to have no power. Usually as soon as the computer is on, I can turn on and off the caps and white light would come on, this does not happen.  I was thinking of running everthing off a boot disk but the computer did not come with one at time of purchase, it comes with a digital version which is not very helpful at this time. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

What windows update troubleshooter are you referring too? Is it the one available on this article?

There is a possibility that this failed because your .NET Framework 4 installation isn't exactly in tip-top shape. You may wanna uninstall it and reinstall it, then try to grab the update for it. Also, if you haven't already, try downloading the security update manually then install it that way instead of using Windows Update to do the work.

I don't know if there were any critical updates available for Windows 8.1 on Tuesday but I didn't get any and Windows Update now just runs endlessly. Maybe the W10 download disabled something even though it was not installed.

Any suggestions?

Hello, do you have any proxy setup in Internet options>Connection Tab>LAN setting?

Are you able to access the Internet just fine.

Also please check the following, you disable your anti-virus temporary. You are in the right time zone and the date and time is correct.

The other day I was at a friend's house and booted up my laptop, and then a little bubble showed up on the bottom saying that Windows could not update. Oddly it said that the last time it had checked for updates was in the middle of December. Interesting that it waits a month to tell me it's not working properly...

When I go to Windows Update and click the update button, it gives me error code 80070424.

Windows updates do come once a month. As for the error fix, try here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

Long story so bear with me.

Bought a laptop in january and hadn't used my desktop since.

Wanted to start using it again, but had an expired version of Norton Internet Security 2014 that need to be removed and the laptop has Kaspersky on it, which I like better.

Checked the Norton site and they said use Windows Add/Remove to remove NIS, reboot, then run Norton removal tool, reboot, to get rid of all remnenants of NIS.

This is where the problem began. I installed Kaspersky IS 2015 and did all the updates. I then went to do the windows updates and got the following message:

Windows could not search for updates
An error occured while checking for new updates
Error found:
Code 8024402F
Windows encountered an unknown error.

Apparently using the Norton removal tool has been messing up windows updates for a while. Wish i had known before i used it.

I then went to the Microsoft site and they had a Microsoft Fixit tool which i ran. It found problems it couldn't fix:

Windows update error 0x80070057(2015-8-26-T-07_19_51P) Not fixed
Problems installing recent updates Not Fixed
Problems installing recent updates Not Fixed

Then when I went back into Windows update it showed -

Most recent check for updates:Never,
Updates wwere installed: Never

And my entire update history was gone.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

using Windows Vista Home Premium, SP2, Dell inspiron.

Hello, here is my problem:

When I click the Windows Update icon on the start menu and internet explorer window opens but it freezes. It is frozen for like 5 minutes with just a blank screen and when I look at the application tab in task manager it says Microsoft Windows Update is "not responding". After about 5 minutes it finally loads and I click the button for it to look for updates and it just runs and runs it never stops. It just stays on the screen that says "Checking for updates for your computer..."

I downloaded and ran the Microsoft Fixit tool and here are the results from using the tool:
