mic not working after windows update

Q: mic not working after windows update

I have recently downloaded the windows 10 October update. ever since then my mic hasn't been working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all my drivers. to add on the Realtek HD audio manager program has been removed and when I try to reinstall it doesn't open. I have reported this problem to windows support. they were with me and tried to solve my problem. they then said to contact my motherboard company as it was not their issue. they tried all of their options and to the best of their ability. my motherboard company told be to use a spare harddrive to backup my stuff and then clean start my pc with new windows. I am unable to do so. please give me other suggestions.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have unintentionally put my laptop back to factory settings and am now back to windows 8.
The windows update isn't working and I can't seem to do anything. I keep searching for updates to download and install but it then says the standalone windows installer is not working either.
Does anyone know how to get around this as I am stuck on windows 8 and I cannot download any games or anything.

Win 7 64 Windows Update not working (post migration), nor is Windows Update Readiness tool installing. I have renamed catroot and stopped services, nothing working. I just migrated HD to a hybrid solid state (Seagate Momentus). I had this problem both with Acronis 2009 and Acronis 2013, and Windows Backup would not create a recoverable partition (always said file not available about 30% through the recovery). I have installed the Intel IDE ATA drivers, and scoured the help topics. I have tried everything. I could really use some help.

The error I receive when attempting to install the Windows Update Readiness Tool is:

"Installer encountered an error: 0xc8000247"

The Microsoft FixIt and Control Panel FixIt says it has fixed the problem, but Update does not work. Nothing is working, but the OS is healthy, the disk is healthy. The sfc/scannow doesn't reveal any corrupted components.

I followed all of these instructions before attempting to install the Windows Update Readiness Tool:

Windows Update Service and Windows Module Installer Service are the two basic services responsible for all your updates to install correctly.

If Windows Updates are failing, then my first step would be to check if these two services are running.
Windows Update Service enables the detection, download, and installation of updates for Windows and other programs. If this service is disabled, users of this computer will not be able to use Windows Update or its automatic upda... Read more

Hello,

I've got a Dell laptop here that isn't functioning properly. I can't get this to work for the life of me! I am currently using this laptop with a different hard drive, it's the install on the SSD that doesn't work. I know that the quick fix would be to simply reload windows, but I don't want the quick fix.

Basically, laptop works with Windows 7 install on a hard drive, no issues. On the SSD, where the ONLY applications loaded are Office 2013 and Firefox (and all the latest updates), the internet does not work (I can ping yahoo.com and get a response, so DNS is fine). The problem persists on IE and Firefox. I have no AV software other than MSE, and the problem persists in Safe Mode w/ networking. The hosts file is clean. The internet worked on the computer just fine when I loaded it, I hadn't used the SSD in a while and when I popped it in, the internet wasn't working. I believe something is getting in the way of port 80, but I can't figure out what. I have disabled all startup applications and all nonwindows services. The computer does not have bonjour. I have cleared history/cookies to no avail. I can't find anything suspicious in the running processes. I can't seem to turn off the windows antimalware process to test that, though.

Any ideas?

I decided to run hijack this and found two BHO's. It's funny that on my new install that I used a handful of times, I have adware, but on this install that's been going for years, I have nothing. Oh well. So I had "Crossrider" and "Coupon Companion". I removed all traces of both, yet still no go. It looks like this managed to install itself on 12/2... which had to be damn close to the date that I bought the SSD, however, I had internet activity as recent as 12/26. The message "Working on updates 12%" has been hanging on the screen for the last 12 hours on my desktop pc.

I had the same problem, though at a different point in the update process, with my laptop.

I had to abandon the update on my laptop and reinstall.

Do I have to go through all that a gain with my Desktop?

I'm very frustrated and thinking of reverting to Windows 7.

Does anyone have some suggestions to correct the stalled update procedure.

Many thanks

Hi Similar to other posts I have had this problem, but have been unable to solve it. I have updated the drivers, disabled and re-enabled the fingerprint reader device, removed my set of fingerprint scans, and tried setting up the new ones, either by creating a new account and/or PIN before starting the scan (Windows Hello then doesn't continue with the setup sequence), and by doing the scans and then creating the PIN (Window Hello exits without saving the scans or PIN). As suggested on other posts, it may be a problem with how the fingerprint works with the PIN, but in my case does not seem to be solvable. I have tried removing all cached information via the BIOS. Is there anything else I can try other than just hoping future updates will sort the problem?John P70, Xeon E3-1505 v5, 20ERCTO1WWWindows 10 Home 64-bit, version 1703, build 15063.54Finger print reader driver Synaptics WBDI(SGX enabled) version 5.1.325.26

I have recently been struck with the redirecting virus (yet to be solved...), and my computer had alerted me that I needed to do an update. So I followed all the steps like normal routine, but in the end, no installation took place. I went to Google my problem and tried to manually download the updates from the Microsoft update website, but just my luck, all of the websites of microsoft containing the term "windows updates" don't work...I'm using Firefox and it says "Problem loading page". What's even weirder is that when I Google the term "windows updates" together, without space, it doesn't work either. I am brought to the "Problem loading page" screen. Even as I type this, if I include the term windows updates together without space, it will not let me post, it brings me to the Problem loading page. I do not know if this is in anyway related to the fact of the hijacked search engines, but it's really bugging me, and I am really unsure of now when exactly my last successful update took place, ergo causing problems for the computer...I also recently got rid of the Antivirus Suite spyware, but with no luck in taking the hijacked stuff away...Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated! Here are the logs of MBAM, GMR, and OTL Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.45www.malwarebytes.orgDatabase version: 3947Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.55124/4/2010 11:03:55 AMmbam-log-2010-04-04 (11-03-55... I cannot get Windows update to work. When I go to the Windows Update site it does not proceed past the following screen:

Depending on your connection speed, this might take a minute. During this time, you may receive one or more security warnings. Review each security warning to ensure that the content is signed by Microsoft, and then click Install or Yes to install the software.

I have cleared my history/cookies/temp files and have disabled my anti-virus as well as my firewall.

Hi,

Are you using ZoneAlarm? I have used ZoneAlarm in the past and sometimes choosing "Shutdown ZoneAlarm" made things worse. For some reason it seemed as if some things would still get blocked but then without ZoneAlarm asking for permission.
There is an answer on Microsoft's KB to this problem which involves configuring ZoneAlarm:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;836960

You could also try manually installing the latest version of windows update:

Hello.
At first(some weeks ago), windows update couldn't search automatically for updates and when I was trying to update manually I was getting error 80080005.
I didn't manage to fix the problem, and now when manually checking for updates, it never finishes(its stuck at 'checking for updates').

Tried running System Update Readiness Tool as well. Tried to apply a hotfix and failed. Since then when I run the tool again it gets stuck at 'searching for updates on this computer' (kinda like windows update).

Additional info
After a quick look at update history: It started 2 months ago*. Since then windows update has been installing the same 3 updates each time. Though their status is marked as 'successful', they have been installed over 40 times till now('successfully' each time).

*Seems the starting point for all this is a failed update:
Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB973688)
Installation date: ‎21/‎6/‎2012 12:28 μμ
Error details: Code 643

The 3 updates that keep getting installed/in case you need them
Security Update for Windows 7 (KB2633171)
Security Update for Windows 7 (KB2676562)
Update for Windows 7 (KB2679255)

A:Windows update is not working

Are you running any type of anti-virus or firewall that might be bocking access for Windows Update?

I show 2 entries in Programs and Features panel about MSXML. KB954430 and KB973688 were both installed on 7/12/2011. Do you show those, and if so, can you try a repair, change or uninstall operation?

The 80080005 means CO_E_Server_Exec_Failure, if that is any help.

Could you copy your WindowsUpdate.log in the Windows folder, to your desktop and then copy around the last 5 days of entries. Paste those in a text file and zip it and attach? Maybe someone will see something that might help.

Hi, your problem is most likely caused by Kaspersky, I would check to see if you have windows defender running. If so, disable it, defender is in conflict with Kaspersky.

My PC is not getting any updates to the Windows XP operating system.

I have tried doing a manual update via the MicrosoftUpdate Web site. Whether I choose Express OR custom update I get the error [Error number: 0x800A0046].

The web page suggests the following
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab, click the Internet security zone icon, and then click Custom Level.
In the Settings dialog box, scroll to the Miscellaneous section.
Under Userdata persistence , select Enable.
Click OK and when the security warning dialog box appears, click Yes.
All of which I have done but still I get the error and NO updates.

I have tried regsrv32 qmgr.dll & regsrv32 qmgrprxy.dll
both of which succesfully registered but did not fix the problem.

I have also noticed that the Windows installer does not work either. Therefore I cannot install any new software using MSI.

I have tried re-registering the msiexec.exe with no effect. I have tried re installing MSI version 3.1 & 4.5 with no effect.

I set up MSI logging and the error MSI is returning error 1601.

in my mind this is all suggesting some sort of security / policy issue......

Any ideas?

Reboot or turn on the machine. As soon as you see your machine's name logo splash screen keep tapping F8. Go to "Advanced Options" or "Repair Computer" Select your language then "Repair Your Computer" An installation of Windows should be detected after that it will attempt to repair Windows.

Could it have been a Legacy Driver by any chance?

Hi all,

It appears i have run into an odd problem and no amount of googling has shown me any remedy.

I have windows 10 Pro installed not via an upgrade. At first i was able to use the update and security tap under settings but recently that is no longer working. If i go to the settings, update & security the top moving line runs but nothing is ever displayed or updated. I do not see any advanced options either on that page. I have attached a image of what i get.

Windows is activated and everything else functions properly.
Really unsure as to what the problem may be, so any assistance would be very welcome.

Many thanks

Hi Silas,

Most probably the problem is the Background Intelligence transfer service not working or in cases, any of the Windows update related services.
Please run the troubleshooters named Background Intelligence transfer service and Windows update from Control Panel>Troubleshooting>View all and reply back with what is fixed/not fixed.

When i click on check for updates it would flash to this one error that was red and then it would go away in 3 seconds. after hitting it a couple of times i finally got what it said:Windows could not search for new updates. Windows update encountered an unknown error. C8000710
Then after that i would click ok and then another error would pop up and it said:The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755

So if anyone can help with this i would really appreciate the time and effort.

Try this first.

Click Start orb, then type %temp%. Delete all files.

In Internet Explorer click Tools on the toolbar - Internet Options - General tab - and under Browsing History click the Delete button then click Delete Files.

Now try updating again.

Running windows xp pro. I had some malware that I got rid of with malwarebytes and spybot. The only problem I find now is I can't access the windows update webpage. Any ideas?

I've restored IE to its default settings and cleared the cache. My hosts file is fine.

Hello all, the other night I realized that I haven't updated windows in a very long time... so I go to the website (the one where it automatically checks to see if you need updates then tells you which ones to download) and it doesn't work. I go onto it and it says one moment, and nothing happens. Can anyone tell me what I can do to possibly make it work? or where I can find updates? I tried looking it up on microsoft.com but nothing like that was in the FAQ.

thanks. Dave

I have had really good luck with BigFix.com and it will load the update for you. I couldn't get a Service Pack to load and finally I went to this site and it loads for you and it works great. All you have to do is subscribe to the formats you want and you can let it load or you can say no. Great site.

I wasn't having any trouble running Windows Update (I have chosen to alert me when there is an update and I will install it if I want it). A few days ago, I knew there had to be definition updates to Windows Defender, but when I ran Check for Updates, it kept running and running and running. I finally shut it down. I have research online and in this forum, but haven't come up with a solution that has worked. I have a Asus laptop - Windows 8.1 - and haven't made any changes to my system or added programs. The only updates I accept are those referring to "security" and "definitions". HELP! I am now unprotected (no new definitions) for days!!

Dear All,

I open "Windows Update".

First page says "No important updates" available", and continues to do so every time I search.

I click "View update history" and on next page I'm told that "You have not tried to install any updates for your computer" !! (This is nonsense !)

I click "Installed Updates" and next page says 8 updates were installed "Earlier this week"----- 8.1.14; and 257 updates were installed "A long time ago"---- last date being 10.12.13.

Are updates provided on a roughly monthly basis ?

The latest 8 updates dated 8.1.14 appeared, as if by "magic", a couple of days ago. I did not see the update happening --- do not think that this has happened before.

So, is my "Windows Update" working properly ?

Further, why does the "View Update History" page say what it says ?!

I've spent hours on this anomoly and got precisely nowhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yours,

Graham Newey.

PS: My OS is Vista Home Premium + Service Pack 2.

A:"Windows Update"-- is it working ?!

Hi Graham Newey,You said that you have spent hours on this issue. Can you explain what solutions you have tried thus far? Have you ran the "Troubleshooting Utility"? http://support.microsoft.com/gp/windows-update-issues/en-usHave you checked to see if all Drivers are up to date?Microsoft usually releases updates on "Patch Tuesday" as most users call it.

Hello. My hard drive crashed and I had to install a new one last week. Since then Windows 7 update does not work. I ask to check for updates and it hangs. It used to work fairly quickly but not anymore.

Is there a solution to this issue?

Thanks.

A:Windows 7 Update Not Working

- Yep, you're not the only one. We had LOTS of Windows Update problems.
- First we need to confirm it's a "Windows Update" problem. Open "Task Manager" (Processes tab) and make sure it displays ALL the processes. Open Task Manager (Services tab), highlight the Service "Wuauserv", right click, select "Go To Process". Task Manager opens the "Processes" tab again and highlights a process. If that process is "Svchost.exe" and it uses A LOT OF CPU then you've got a Windows Update problem.
- Keep us/me posted.

Hello,

I'm having a problem with Windows Update. Every time it tries to download something new, it always states that it's "unsuccessful". Also, I tried installing Windows Live Messenger today but that was also unsuccessful, and I know that it uses the Windows Update service to do so. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm "trying" to help a friend figure out what is going on... Windows update will not run and says its because a couple of services aren't running and in fact they are not. I've read through a few hundred posts on how to start the services via reg editing and through services.msc and have tried them all to no avail. So... here is a copy of the highjack this report, and as I'm sure you know any and all support is greatly appreciated!

I have a question. I am working on a friend's computer, removing a trojan for them. The computer is back to normal, but after I open up Internet Explorer and proceed over to Windows Update, it comes to an error page, where it had a problem. I had to run the diagnostic and it came back clear except that it could not access FTP. I check the firewall and that was fine. Any help would be appreciated...

A:Windows Update not Working

Are you using an illegal copy of Windows OS? Most pirated versions come with disabled Windows update, or perhaps the trojan has disabled your Windows update. I recommend in this case to format and reinstall your OS, then install an updated antivirus software.
