2wire att modem show wrong location

Q: 2wire att modem show wrong location

My AT&T 2wire modem died and I purchased one from Louisville, KY. I reset back to default and went back through the wizard and I can connect and works fine. However for my apps that use location services like weather.com, yahoo.com, etc. it is still showing Louisville, KY and I live in Atlanta, GA. This isn't really preventing anything other than I usually use my droid to quickly check the weather which is no longer possible. How can I get this corrected? I have submitted a question to Pace which owns 2wire now but have not heard back yet. Any help would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Check the timezone settings in the router, but usually those sites uses your IP address (the one the modem gets from the ISP). To check, try this site to see where you are located.

I noticed over the weekend when I go to speedtest.net it shows the wrong location. I live on the east outskirts of London yet it thinks my nearest test server is Aberdeen / Edinburgh. If I go to edge, the home/start page which can be customised shows weather for Edinburgh! I have manually customised for London to fix this rather than let it auto detect. But it's weird. If I open the maps app it shows me on the map in the correct location!

its worth noting that I am seeing the same problem on my iMac when I go to speedtest.net so it's not a Windows problem but it's still left me scratching my head and also wondering why the maps apps on both machines get the location correct. Both connect via Ethernet.

on my iPad and iPhone which use wifi, launching the speedtest app gives the correct location/nearest server

A:Speedtest.net and edge show wrong location

I'd heard that speed test will find the server nearest where your internet provider's address is, I have to manually choose Manchester as that's the closest to me but automatically it can choose Maidenhead or elsewhere other than where I am.

I am setting up a computer with a GIGABYTE brand wireless card to connect to a 2wire 2701. Can anyone tell me in simple terms how to DISABLE the security in the modem? If it is ENABLED the card will NOT connect. I do not know nor do I want to bother with WEP security for myself or my friend. We are the only users of our respective towers and security is not a priority. I needed to do this for my NETGEAR card to connect to my DLINK router. Please reply to [email protected] Thank you.

You can download a complete manual here: http://support.2wire.com/download/49/5100-000326-000.Rev.A.pdf. I don't know why you would want to disable security though after you get the computers to connect to the modem.

So AT&T made all their customers upgrade to AT&T U-Verse recently (like early this month). We got this new 2Wire modem and after about 2 weeks of having it, it just suddenly disconnected from my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A660) this morning. Unplugged and plugged back in the modem: nothing. Restarted my laptop and stuff: nothing. I am pretty sure the problem is with my laptop because the internet is working fine on my older Dell desktop (which I'm writing from right now).
I thought I could remove the Network Connection from my Network Connection list (called 2Wire949), and I did. Tried reconnecting and it does at times, but when it does it is only for a few seconds and the connection is very weak compared to what it was before, which was at full bar. For the most part all I have been experiencing is that the 2Wire949 appears rarely on the list of wireless networks on my laptop. My mom mentioned that the desktop had a window appear on the computer when she was using it earlier that the modem was running slower or something. She can't remember what it exactly said for the life of her, of course. (-_-) So I do not know what to do at this point...
Pleeeeease heeeeeelp. So frustrating to have a new modem giving you trouble already!!!! =((( Thank you!

can we see an xirrus screen shot

what windows version are you running

if you connect to the modem by cable, is everything working OK

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

{If the above link does not work heres another link Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector | PCWorld}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to downl... Read more

Hi everyone,

I'm fed up with my slow DSL connection. It takes forever to load pages, images, etc.

I have a 2wire wireless modem model 2700HG-B attached to a 2-year old iMac desktop. It worked fine until a few months ago when I bought a Belkin N wireless router.

Internet connection on the desktop slowed down completely. I even upgraded DSL plans in hopes of getting a faster connection!

To bandage the problem, I have to unplug the Belkin N wireless router every time I want to work on the desktop. It's too much of a pain. Is it because I have 2 wireless modems? Any detailed advice with be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Your 2wire unit already incorporates a wireless router, which makes the Belkin router unnecessary. And yes they will conflict with each other..

Does anyone know if the 2WIRE 3801 HGV-B which is the latest model router/modem used by U-Verse uses a Docsis 2 or Docsis 3 modem? I cannot get an answer from anyone and the 2WIRE seems to be the reason that my U-Verse Internet is much slower than my former Cox internet which can use a Motorola or Cisco Docsis 2 or 3 modem.

In addition, does anyone know if or how I upgrade the firmware on this device and if there are settings I can change to maximize my 12mbps U-Verse Internet?

I would also like to link my Netgear Router to it and if possible, use both the direct and wifi from the Netgear. I could use help in how to use my netgear and what settings I need to turn on or off on the 2WIRE and the Netgear. I have a Netgear WNR3500 and a Netgear WNDR 3300. Which one would be better?

If I cannot speed up my U-Verse Internet, can I use Cox with my Docsis 3 modem for my Internet and U-Verse for my TV?

A:2WIRE 3801 HGV-B modem spec

Googling for 2WIRE 3801HGV-B shows that modem features:
Main Interfaces

VDSL2
Ethernet WAN
HomePNA 3.1
4 Ethernet LAN Ports
HyperG 802.11b/g Wireless Access Point
2 FXS (VoIP) Lines
so you alread support 4 wired connections + several more WiFi - - the extra router would not be necessary IMO.

However, you add an extra router, you would first disable DHCP in the new one
and then cable from a modem LAN slot to the router LAN slot and leave the router WAN empty.

Docsis 2/3 are for CABLE modems and you have a
"Very-high-speed digital subscriber line 2 (VDSL2) is an access technology that exploits the existing infrastructure of copper wires that were originally deployed for traditional telephone service. "

You were better off with the Cable connection.

Are there any changes I should make on the 2wire to make sure that they don't conflict?

Is there a way I can use the existing wireless router as the input which this router is looking for is DSL signal, but I am connecting this with the cable modem through the ethernet port and I am able to get the wireless signal but it does not connect to internet.

Being that your cable is connected via ethernet to the 2wire, the best you can probably do is to use the 2wire as a switch, so no dhcp from the 2wire.
Wireless routers are cheap and plentiful these days. Compusa had a Trendnet for 5 bucks!

OK, here's the situation. I have a Dell E1505 laptop with Windows Vista that I use as my main computer. I am connected to the internet with a 2wire2701HG-T router/modem. I just bought a Acer Aspire One D250 with Windows 7 Starter and connected it wirelessly to the network. Now, however, when the Dell is connected to the modem by ethernet, my preferred connection for security, speed, and battery issues, the internet connection on the Acer slows down to nothing and soon disconnects. After a bit, it reconnects, but is still very slow, only to disconnect again. However, when I connect the Dell by wireless, everything works normally. Is this a modem problem, or is it an issue with one of the computers? I must admit, my networking skills don't go beyond being able to set up a network name and password.

Whenever I connect my laptop to my home network and try to use the web browser, I get a message from my modem that says that my laptop has been blocked by parental controls and cannot access web browsing. However, this is incorrect, my laptop has full access with parental control restrictions. This only happens when I try to use the web browser. When I use a third party application such as Windows Mail it works fine. Could someone tell me why does the modem blocks the web browsing feature on my laptop? How could I fix this?

I have two modems - my talk talk wired modem works ok (though some pages do not seem to complete loading) I wanted to try running my 2wire (BT1800) modem via ethernet connection to see if this was any better (with my talk talk broadband). It works on normal sites but refuses to load a lot of pages - it just doesn't do anything and I believe these pages are secure pages e.g I can access ebay but not my ebay. I have been through the set-up pages in the modem and cannot find anything that looks like it would 'allow' secure pages.

I've also tried accessing the pages from IE7 and Firefox, neither work (though both do on my talk talk modem).

Any suggestions- could it be the Bt1800 cannot upload data or something to do with the security?

Hi, I found a thread from 2008 which seems to be my problem but I can't follow it well enough so I'm re-asking the question instead. My elderly parents computer has Verizon DSL service through a Westell E90-60015 modem and I want to establish a wireless network instead using my old 2wire 2701-HG-B router.

I tried just plugging it in in place of the modem and it said the "eternet cable was not plugged in" so there was no Internet, and so I could not go to http://192.168.1.1 to take a look at any setting to change. That page does come up with Verizon info when it's plugged into the modem but I don't think that helps me.

What is the proper procedure to do this?
Thank you!

ISP provider has upgraded the modem to 2wire wireless router/modem. We did tests within the house and I have 6 Mb availability where line enters the house (basement), but only 4Mb
because of older wiring in the house.

It was suggested that for max speed I could put the 2wire in basement, and connect to it wirelessly. Not a problem for the Dell.

My question: Is there a way to have the WRT54GR on 2nd floor and connect my Desktop to it hardwired, and communicate with the 2 wire wireless modem/router? Can this set up be used instead of putting a wireless card in my desktop?

A client of mine has a very large house and wants to extend the range of his wireless signal. He is able to get signal everywhere except the kitchen.

Which range extender or access point is the best one to pair up with 2Wire's modem/wireless router?

If there is not a reliable one, then I could just use Linksys products.

I could hook up a WRT54G to the 2wire and have that be a hard connection, and then get a WAP54G to act as a repeater. Or, should I get two WAP54G's and not get the WRT54G and set it up the same way I just described? And would I set up the 2Wire as a bridge? Is that possible? Links as to how?

Hi, i just spent all day working on my girlfriends computer. She was so loaded up with viruses and spyware that nothing i could scan with could quite fix all her problems. So to save myself the trouble, i just wiped the damn thing and reinstalled windows. My only issue now is that her modem/router (a fairly new 2wire ATT model, i dont know the exact number) is giving me the green light on the ethernet port, but it is not giving me an IP address, or anything. I am also getting a green light on the Computers ethernet port, but below it there is also an orange one. I tried everything i could think of, uninstalling the ethernet card from device manager so that it would be redeteced on a reboot (which it was) reinstalling the drivers from the Emachines website, and using the ISP cd to try and reconfigure it, but nothing seems to work. I also noticed that instead of getting a regular 10/100 MBps, im getting 400mbps, which doesnt seem to work. I don't know if this is possible, but this is what I want to do:
Have the dsl modem router and linksys voip connected together.
I want the voip router to assign dhcp and the dsl modem router to
be used to get internet access but not assign dhcp (I think)

This is why I want it:

I have 8 wireless linksys cam's configured through the voip router.
Setting the cam's to the modem router didn't work well because of
AT&T's firewall cannot be disabled, only modified to open ports. It's frustrating as when I opened the ports for the cam's, a consistant "an unknown error has occured". So I opted to just set up the cams on the linksys router as the cams are also linksys as well. Thus, figuring they would communicate better anyway.

This is my problem:

When I connect the dsl modem router to the
WAN port on the linksys router, the dsl modem assigns it
a fixed LAN ip. What I want is the linksys router to pull a WAN ip so I can log into my cam's remotely from my laptop at home.
No matter what I do, disable dhcp on linksys router, set linksys router on the dsl modem router to DMZ, set linksys router to bridge mode.....
nothing seems to work.

All I want to do is configure the linksys router so that when I go to my internet explorer on my laptop and type in "99.xxx.xxx.xx:1024 to connect to the cam's. But when I go to linksys router config. pages to see the status, the internet ip is 192.168.1.64 which is a LAN address assi... Read more

I have had issues trying to setup this wireless network up for a few days. please help me if you can, as im close to using hammers and impact drills.

I have the 2Wire (2701HGV-W) wireless DSL modem from telstra bigpond, which was supplying my house with wireless internet. the wireless network from the 2Wire is a secured network and works fine, but the signal is too weak and keeps dropping out in the upstairs study, which is where its needed.

so i bought a external wireless antenna which i attached to a wireless router i had laying around, its a TP-LINK (TL-WR642G) this one has a connector for external antennas.

from the 2Wire modem, i hooked up using ethernet cable the TP-LINK wireles router. i tried to connect teh upstirs computer, as expected 2 wireless networks were displayed (2Wire-secured and TP-LINK- unsecured).

here is where the problem starts, the signals get mixed up. both networks show full signal strength, but if i connect to the 2Wire the signal will drop to "very low", and it just wont connect to the TP-LINK network.

what im i missing here? any help would be very much appretiated.

Thanks

Configure the channel of the secondary router to be different from the primary router. Keep them at least four channels apart. Configure both of them with the same SSID and encryption key, and you'll have seamless networking (well close) between them. You can use this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector to find the clearest channels.

The secondary router should also be configured as follows to create a single network where all the connected devices are peers.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port t... Read more

When I create a new file or download pictures, I still do it the old way by saving it to the proper location on my hard drive. I know they should show up in C:\Users\myname\Documents\*.*, but they don't.

How do I correct this?

Ah libraries. Think of them as where the index for all your music, pics, etc is located. They can be anywhere on your system (for storage in a safe place) but the index defaults to lib's.

You can move libraries, or not even use them.

If you create a file and save it where does it end up? (search for the file name)

If you look below, you will see my "location", but really I live in Oregon (This would be nice speeds if I really were 1700 miles away).

So whats wrong? Windows 7's fault, or Speedtest.net's fault.

BTW How do I enable my signature?

Edit: I just looked up in another site, and it had my location wrong.

Hi,

Recently my computer is being recognized as coming from the UK. I am wondering if this means that my computer's security is compromised. It sucks because google.co.uk shows up every time I go to google.com. I also can't watch anything on fox on demand because it says "You must be located in the United States to watch Fox On Demand". Can anyone help me?

My XP computer location settings are all set to the United States.

A:Location of computer is wrong

Google suggests you are not alone.

The location will be determined on your IP address, if they have not updated correctly, or have not updated for newly released "blocks of new IP addresses" then it will not be recognised.

If you do not use a proxy, you live in the US, then the problem is theirs and not yours.

I originally posted this in another thread but after a few days with no replies i decided to make my own.
This is partly because my problem, and that of the original poster, is not identical..

Please help if you can think of anything. Im not often stuck with problems but this time im not able to figure out what is wrong. Windows Communities has failed to help (no replies after 3 days), Windows Support failed (no shock there..) and my google-fu has failed..

There might be two separate issues at work here but all my information is listed in pictures below.
My main issue is that i cannot install Forza Horizon 3 in the right drive, this problem lead me to the Storage area in settings which only shows my C drive.

I have had this windows installation for a while, it is fully patched and working well except for this issue.

Windows 10 Enterprise ver 1607. (Because it was supposed to be part of my work domain but figured out i didnt need to).

Below is the storage settings, only showing C: , "New apps will save to:" dropdown is activated, only showing C:

This is my storage as windows sees it:
When i try to download and install a game from Windows Store i run into problems because i dont want this game on C: or D: , i want it on G:

Lastly the registry settings:
Anyone able to tell me how i can get my other drives to show up in Storage, maybe this will fix the issue?

A:Windows Store save location only show C: D:, not E F G H???

Hi, have you tried creating a new user for test purposes?
What is your build level? (Windows key + R, winver)
I suspect you may be using 1511.
The ability to change this was added in a later update in 1511.

I have an arrow beside all save locations.

I recently moved my sidebar from the right to the left side because I was tired of the same old look. But now whenever an icon shows up on my desktop for any reason it appears still on the left, right underneath the sidebar and I have to close it just to move the icon. Can I change the default location for them to appear?

Thanks

A:How do you change the location of where your icons show up on desktop?

I have Vista HP and can drag the desktop icons anyplace I want them.
Have you tried to do that?

My friend has lost access to her photos, she has quite a few. Recently she was transferring all her data from an old computer to a new donated crate, via a USB stick. The sticks capacity means that it is taking an age. But now she cannot access her photos even thought they show up in the search function. Could they have been accidentally deleted? The search engine as I understand it compiles a list of files that may no longer be accurate, i.e. Deleted. The photos are on her old computer waiting to be transferred. I am not sure what O/S it is but guess either Win2k or XP. I do have some un-delete software on my USB key for such emergences, but there may be a more simple explanation?

A:Photos show up in search but not at actual location

It depends on how was she transferring.
Was she copying on USB stick and then copying to other computer. Or was she moving to USB stick and then moving to other computer.

Sorry but you dont give much information about the problem either.

This problem just cropped up yesterday and my ISP (Comcast/Xfinity) is being singularly unhelpful. The IP address reports my location as Vancouver Washington - however I live in Portland Oregon. This is causing economic problems as when I make a purchase I am being charged sales tax - which Washington has but Oregon does not!. Any ideas on how to change this?

A:IP address reporting wrong location

You need to speak to your ISP again. It is only them that can sort this out. If you provide proof they can't really argue with you. Wherever you got that information from above I would tell Comcast to look in the same place to confirm that it is showing your location as Vancouver then tell them to sort it out.

I just got a Surface Pro with Windows 8. My first exposure to both. I am involved in genealogy so I download the app for Ancestry.com. My subscription is worldwide so when I click on the icon on my other computer with Windows 7 it takes me to the Ancestry.com webpage. But when I click on the APP on Windows 8 it takes me to Ancestry.ca
(the Canada site) not .com. I checked my Region setting as per a post I found and made sure it is set to United States instead of Canada but that made no difference.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Alright, so I'm not in the United States. At some point the internet decided that parts of Los Angeles County fall outside of our borders. I am less than pleased with this arrangement and would like to remedy it if at all possible.

I get ads in German, I have trouble accessing random websites (I believe this to be related) and on others, most notable being Fox.com I am unable to view content because, as previously noted, this service is only for those living within the United States.

I encounter this with both Firefox and Internet Explorer. I'm running Windows XP. Roadrunner claims that they are aware of the issue, and investigated it and found it to be a problem on the user side of things and not with the connection itself.

My regional settings are all set for the U.S. and as far as I know I haven't installed or change any language settings anywhere either. I'm really rather frustrated and any help or advice you can shoot my way would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Check you External IP Address and check it against the "Who Is" database. Sounds most likely that it is on your side.

Greetings all, I'm hoping someone among you will take pity on a poor soul who didn't do all the reading he should have and thus didn't use Macrium like he should have.

I used the built-in Windows tool to backup my C: drive to an external Hard disk. Now, after having reinstalled Windows I'd like to put that backup to work. But, whenever I tell it to "restore my files" it looks for a backup device and tells me there isn't one. I know it exists because I can see it, and I can access the backup (and the other files) as well. If I "open" instead of "restore" the backup, I can see all the files that are supposed to be there, so it doesn't appear any data is missing, it's simply a case of Windows not being able to see the files, and I don't see a way to point the program directly to it.

Thanks (in advance) for the help.

I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit, Ultimate edition (thank God for student discounts), 3 GHz Processor, 4 GB Ram, HD4850 if the hardware has anything to do with it.

A:Windows restore doesn't show backup location

Within Windows 7 "Backup & Restore" are two quite different backup types.
1) File/folder backup - generally your personal files and folders as the name suggests
2) System image backups - A complete snapshot of your partition. This include the OS, installed programs, all data - the works.

Which one are you having difficulty with?

Given you have just reinstalled Windows I suspect you just want your file/folders back.
If it is 1) then select "Select another backup to retrieve files from"
This should allow you to browse all backup sets on all attached drives, not just the default backup drive.
