The HomeGroup Provider service depends on the Function Discovery Provider Host

Q: The HomeGroup Provider service depends on the Function Discovery Provider Host

Hello, I tried turnong it on in services and get an error code 1079. Can anyone help me?

Preferred Solution: The HomeGroup Provider service depends on the Function Discovery Provider Host

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What are the start types of the two services? If they are Automatic, you may try to change it to Automatic(Delay) or Manual for a test.

Added a new HP M604 printer to the network to replace an M601 printer that was no longer working. The printer is deployed via group policy as a deployed printer. The printer is using the Universal Printer Driver PCL 6. I can access the printer properties

A:wmi provider host service WmiPrvSE.exe constantly using 3 to 25 p. of my cpu

Hello michael4321, and welcome to Bleeping Computer!!

I read on http://www.file.net/prozess/wmiprvse.exe.html that my file size of wmiprvse.exe of 372.736 Bytes equals
one of the sizes under the section Viren mit gleichem Dateinamen which translates to english Viruses with same filename...

A couple of things here: I don't find file.net to be the best source of technical information because it's not always accurate. More importantly, I don't see the filesize of 372736 anywhere on that page! Where exactly do you see that number?
It's common for that service to spike CPU usage sometimes, and 3%-25% is not a problem if it comes back down again. If it's 25% all the time, then I would start to worry.
But there's an easy way we can quickly get several opinions on that file:
Go to VirusTotal.com
Click the "Choose File" button.
Navigate to the file WmiPrvSE.exe and click Open.
Click the "Scan It" button (***Note: If it says this file has already been scanned, please click "Reanalyze").
When it is finished scanning please provide a link to the results page in your next reply.
I scanned my system with malwarebytes anti malware
Was anything detected?? If so, please copy and paste the logfile into your next reply. If you don't know where to find it, let me know!
Depending on the VirusTotal results, we'll go from there.
Do you have any other problems with your computer?

I just noticed the background process "WMI Provider Host" is using up a ton of my somewhat limited CPU power. I'm usually pretty good at solving these issues on my own, but I am at a loss with this one as I am not familiar with the process itself.

In Event Viewer the process shows an error every 5 seconds, so there is something going on. Problem is that the ClientProcessId that causes the error (6728) doesn't show up on the services tab in task manager, even as the errors are occurring in realtime (highest ID is 4800). I don't know where to go from here. How can a process cause an error while not showing up as running? Any ideas on what to do next?
Edit: I've figured out that it is caused by Blizzards Battle.net client. Guess I'll move the inquiry over to them.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help. From time to time I get a message saying: WMI Provider Host has stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution becomes available. I have yet to receive a solution, but have got this notice on quite a few occasions. I would be grateful of some knowledge on this matter.Thanks,Gale4cwinds.

Hi Gale4cwinds, wmi provider host is a Windows Host Management Process. It is usually used by the developers for monitoring purposes. I am not sure what is the main cause of this problem but this is basically a service and I guess it causes problems when it doesn't follow the patterns that is supposed to. If you are facing this issue then the very first thing that you can do is run a anti malware and adware scan. Its helped a lot of people to resolve this issue. I hope it helps you out too.

Hello everyone,

I have run into some networking problems and I think I have narrowed it down to the homegroup provider.

I have 4 windows 8 pro x64 computers connected to a router. Up until now, I have been able to disable the homegroup provider service because I don't want to use the homegroup and don't want to see it in my file explorer. I have been able to connect to all the shared computer drives up until I tried to disable the homegroup provider on my netbook. When I did this I lost the ability to connect to other shared computers. I re-enabled the provider, however I still cannot see drives on other computers. I can now see my netbook on the other shared computers.

Any ideas of what is going on?

A:Computer not showing up when homegroup provider disabledl

Here is something that might help. I have access to the internet and I can get to my network computers if I type their address into the file explorer bar for example one of my compters is called Alpha1. If I type \\Alpha1\OS.Drive I can navigate to the C: drive on my computer Alpha1. I just cannot see the icon for the computer Nor can I see the icon for the netbook which I am working on. Usually when I am on say Alpha1 I can find Alpha1 under the network branch too, but this is not the case on my netbook. I cannot find it under the network branch when I am on my netbook. Hope this makes sense.

Maybe I need to uninstall the adapter and reinstall it? Am I missing TCP/IP? Why would I be able to get to the internet if I didn't have TCP/IP?

Again any help would be much appreciated.

lately, I have been experiencing a slowdown on my computer. As any other person would do, I opened Task Manager and saw that a process called WMI Provider Host took 20-30%, of CPU. I tried to end the task but it continued to open up. I went into my anti-virus software and found nothing wrong. I looked into my Event Manager and got back to a .dll opening the script making WMI Provider Host open. the .dll is called cimwin.dll. That opens it and other Activity Transfers open it. Anyone have any idea on what is happening?

A:WMI Provider Host Hogging 20% of CPU.

Try to disable service Windows Management Instrumentation temporarily to see, what happens.

HiFor a while now, my computer has been very slow due to the WMI Provider Host using between 40% - 80% of my CPU. This has occurred at idle, from turning on the computer and does not drop in percentage. I have performed clean boots and disabled all non critical services and rebooted, to see that the issue continues, thus it is not conflicting with other programs. I have done a full scan with trend micro and have found no viruses or malware. However, at one stage there were two WMI Provider host applications running simultaneously in the task manager with only one using large percentages of CPU. I disabled the one that was slowing the computer and the other began to run at 40-80%. I am close to fully resetting my computer but a easier solution would be appreciated. Thanks

I am trying to fix a computer that is running extremely slow. The computer runs on Windows 8 and is less than a year old, but the slowness would have you thinking it's more like ten years old. Avast detects nothing malicious, and there are no suspicious programs enabled in the start-up list. However, there is a process called WMI Provider Host that is ALWAYS using at least 15% - 20% of the CPU. Does anyone know why this might be and what I can do about it?

Hi,  I've had a X1 Yoga 2nd Gen (20JD) for a month now. Had to remove some unwanted apps and fix some stuff but it mostly works fine... Only issue I find is that sitting idle (no app in the background, no service... nothing) WMI Provider Host is always at 3% CPU or more with 12MB of RAM (that's way more than what I'm used to see).  I've read somewhere it may be related to the audio driver, though I'm using the most "basic" Conexant driver (10.0.15063.447, by Microsoft).  I'm trying to troubleshoot who's to blame for this but it's a bit tricky. So if anybody has seen this scenario or has some suggestion, it will be ver much apreciated.

If I helped you, please give me some kudos! ^^

Just setting up my new X1C6 with Win10 and the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 dock. Everything seems to be working, but occasionally the fan starts spinning like crazy, and a process named "WMI Provider Host" appears in the Task Manager with >25% CPU usage. After a few minutes the system is back to normal.  After a bit of Googling, I went to Event Viewer -> Applications and ... -> Microsoft -> Windows -> WMI Activity, and I found a series of errors that coincided with the excessive CPU load events. Every error has a reference to a process ID that corresponds to "Thunderbolt.exe". This leads me to think that the problem is related to my docking station. I tried downloading the docking station drivers from https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/en/solutions/acc100356 but it turns out that I have an even newer version installed already (something .12 vs .10) . Yesterday, I heard some loud hissing from the corner of the laptop where the TB3 ports are. It disappeared when I unplugged the dock, and came back after I plugged it in again. After a restart, it went away, and the port as well as the dock seems to be working fine (currently with Ethernet and a VGA monitor). Any ideas what to do here?

Since Lenovo updated their Lenovo Vantage app for Windows 10 about a moth ago, something (i suppose in the app) is causing the WMI Provider Host to take 10-30% of the CPU. If I uninstall the Lenovo Vantage app and restart the PC, the process magically doesn't show up anymore. I tryed reinstalling the app and everything works well untill I restart the PC. Once I restart the PC with the app installed the WMI Provider Host process starts again consuming abnormously the CPU. I even tried letting it run to see if eventually it would stop eating up the CPU, but it just goes on and on (I tried letting the PC run several hours, but it never stopped). Any hints Lenovo? Is it only me or is the app broken?

I want to use the IPTV technology to transmit some channels. Therefore I consider to become full service provider. For my purpose I see possibilities in the market.

However I am not computer engineer, so, it is quite difficult to make some more progress

Can someone suggest me something about this, maybe there are companies that can help a lot, like selling a complete servers for service providers.

Second question is can I transmit by using servers about 5Mbps to downloaders ( the users should not notice it too much in the sense they should have enough bandwidth for other things , e.g. when someone has 30 Mbps for downloading) .

A:Service Provider

You want to look at companies that sell dedicated servers. Basically, you rent the server, put whatever applications you want on it, and they provide the data center and Tier I Internet connection. Optionally, you can go with a colocation provider. It's very similar, except you provide the servers, which you put in a partial rack (meaning you're buying rackmount servers) or cage at their data center. This does require you to be close to the data center, since they won't touch your servers for any reason unless you pay them (it's know as "remote hands"), and then only to reset, power cycle, or plug/unplug something. If you rent a server, it data center could be located anywhere in the world since you will only access it remotely.

The big cost is going to be bandwidth. IPTV is a very bandwidth-intensive service, and in either case, you pay for every data packet received or transmitted from the server. The total bandwidth required is equal the number of concurrent downloaders. If ten people are downloading at 5Mbps, you are feeding 50Mbps. If a hundred people are downloading at 5Mbps, you are feeding at 500Mbps.

After a storm a couple of days ago, we lost all internet service. I contacted my ISP (over and over...) and have been told that their remote checks reveal that we ARE geting service.
All the lights on the cable modem are on. The operator was able to 'refresh' it remotely.
We have tried connecting two different laptops directly to the modem (bypassing the WIFI) with an ethernet cable, and neither was able to access the internet. We have tried with 5 wireless devices (after reconnecting the wireless router) and cannot access the internet; however, the wireless network DOES show up.
A windows 8 diagnostic indicated that the computer was getting no IP address.
The ISP is adamant that this is OUR problem. I will be happy to provide more details, but I am not a techie and don't know where to start. Can anyone please help?? My thought is that the modem is not working properly...

A:I have No Internet Service though my Provider says I do

Sure does sound like a modem problem.
Have you tried a long power cycle (unplug the modem for 30 minutes, then plug it back in) or a hard reset (see the modem manual)?  Do you own the modem or is it provided by the ISP?  If the ISP owns the modem, then insist they replace it.

Hi,TL;DR;As much as I love Lenovo computers, and use them for professional use for the past 5-6 years and buy them for all my employees, I won?t ever buy a Lenovo in Israel (and of course wont suggest it anymore) as long as the service provider stays "CPM computer services" , as they are simply useless, and I actually lost money because of their inability to give service. The longer version:I want to make a complaint about your Israel warranty service provider  - CPM computer services.I bought a 520S ideapad (with i7 processor) from an official local supplier (KSP israel) which I'm familiar with and trust, after a few weeks the laptop stopped booting and I couldn't start it (happens, I know, I didn?t panic..)As the computer was a few weeks old I've contacted the official service provider CPM which picked up the computer after a few days, and sent me an email that the computer was received.Since that moment I haven't heard from them for almost a month, until I contacted them just to hear they are still "working on it"I've been calling them each week since then, to find out they don?t know what is the problem - so finally I've convinced them to supply me a new computer, so they offered me a new idea pad with a worse spec than the one I had, and couldn't understand why I rejected their "generous" offer. After a week or so, they decided to give me a full refund, which I'm still waiting for after another month (3'rd month without a computer).the bo... I recently received a new wireless modem/router from my provider in Germany (I am an expat). My Vpn no longer works really, very slow which leads me to believe, (as well as picking up on a few things online) that "Telekom" provider has done something somehow to block or seriously slow down VPNs.
I have no idea what they have done and am hoping there is some kind of work around?

Any advice welcome.

Say a person does not want to pay a service provider anything. Is it possable
for that person to get an email address and use it. I thought that Juno had
a free email service that allowed someone to use e-mail without paying
a service provider but I am not sure. If it is so, is there any information
for that. Is there any other service that would provide absolutely free
thank you,

Not sure if this is the right place or even possible but here goes.

I visit a forum and on the forum next to any post you make it also shows part of your service provider e.g. ---.zone4.bethere.co.uk or ---.hsd1.or.comcast.net. my question is is there a way to stop this or make it display something else?

I ask because my service provider is very specfic and i don't want people who use the site to know my provider (for reason i dont want to go into lol this sounds liek a weird thing its nothing dodgy or weird i promise!)

anyway is there a way to not have it displayed (there is no option on the forums) or have it show something different.

A:stop a website displaying my service provider?

That's apparently a forum thing for that specific forum. They obviously query the available information for your ISP and display it for some reason. There may be a configuration in your account options to hide it, have you checked? Are you SURE that it's publicly displayed? It might just be visible to you and perhaps board administration.

If you post a link to one of your posts, we can tell you if a guest can also see it.

About 3 or 4 months ago I switched to a new internet provider whom also sent me a new modem. Problem is, is that this new modem prevents my burglar alarm's dial out alert system from contacting my nominated phone numbers during an activation/test. If I turn off the modem there is no problem, the alarm works perfectly.
This would be fine except that my brother in law lives next door and uses my internet connection so it is inconvenient if I'm away and have to switch the modem off to have the alarm fully functional.

Prior to the provider change over I was using a 3rd party TP-Link TD-W8951ND modem with my prior service provider. This modem caused no problems at all with the function of the burglar alarm when left on.

Therefore, I would like to use the TP-Link modem again but I can't get it to work on the new service. From memory, the modem that was supplied by the new provider was basically 'plug and play' and all I did was just cable it in and there was no keyboard work required. This is why I don't know why the TP modem doesn't work since I didn't change anything.
Evidently, there are some configurations that do need altering but I haven't got a clue.

Any help or ideas?

A:How To Connect My 3rd Party Modem To My New Provider's Service?

Hello there, You need to apply the appropriate ADSL and network settings on the modem so it can connect to your new provider's network. The ISP support should provide those. Hope you get it up and running soon.

In the last monthly cycle, your Internet account used 160.3 GB. That?s well above the typical monthly usage of up to 43.0 GB.

This situation could mean several things. If you have a wireless router, you may have unauthorized users logging onto your account. Ensure that your router is encrypted or password-protected by visiting the Web site of your router's manufacturer.

We need a bit more information.

Is it wireless or do you connect with a cable to your router.

What version of windows are you using.

Is this a laptop or desktop with a built in wireless card or are you using a dongle.

Please provide the make and model of the PC.

Apart from that you have started this thread in the section for introducing yourself, it should be in Storage and Networking.

You may get moved but help will continue.
