Q: login problem

I tried to log in on my friend`s computer, using my own username and password. Now she can`t log in on it herself. What did I do, and how can I fix it? Please help.

Preferred Solution: login problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have no idea if it is the same problem. First of all I am using a wireless router, I have a internal wireless thing on my laptop. And I am able to connect and all but when i went to ebay.com and tried to log in, It leads to me a page as if I am not online. So I am wondering if it is my router settings or my laptop that makes it like that. Thank you for your help.

A:Help with Internet problem. Downloading problem / login problem.

Hello,
I have since a cupple of days the following problems with my computer:

When i boot it up and the windows password shreen comes, i cant log in because the part of the logon screen with the username, password field, password hint etc. is missing.... here a screen shot of it (yea, its in german...guesse were I am from!):

So I logged in by pressing ctr+alt+delete twice. I used the username that was in the loginbox and since I don't even have a windows password (!), I just lett the passwordfield free and I could log in without problems. later I noticed that the account I loged in to has not admin rights but is only an visitor account. Unfortunately I dont remember what my login name is since you dont have to type it in on regular bases in windows xp.

After that I tried to boot up the computer in safe moode to get to the account "administrator" which is without password. But my safemoode seems not to be working too! I just used it several days ago and everything was ok. But now, when i boot it up in safemoode the computer turns itself of right before the loogin schreen comes!

I did several things with my computer right before I had these problems that could in my oppinion possibly have something to do with my problems.
I addded a password to my useraccount but i made up my minde and deleted it right away again.
I also did some work with the regestry, but I dont realy think that that schould have anything to do with my problems since I was very... Read more

Hello, sry for the double post but I think its clearer like this than if I would etit the first post.
I just solved my problem on my own, here what I did, for the case that somebody has a simmilar problem or is just interested.

I just gave it another shot to get into the save moode and this time it surprisingly worked. I logged into to the account "administrator". Than I whent to Start/ Run and whent to "control userpasswords2". My username was in the group "debugger users" instead of "administrators". I changed this and now everything is normal again!

I am still wondering how this happend and why i could not enter the savemoode (and why it probably worked again)..... if anybody has ideas, i would be interested!

Firefox keeps asking me for the proxy username and password - on every page, often multiple times.

I've just installed firefox on a WinXP laptop and plugged it into a university LAN. The set up is all pretty default, you know: 8080, exceptions for local addresses and so on. The connection seems fine, and IE (finally) seems to be okay, even downloading from Windows Update, which was a real pain to get to work, but that's another story.

When I start up a browser, I have to give a username and password for the proxy: same when I download something or run an Active X control. This isn't too bad. But on Firefox, on this machine, asks me for a username and password for every single page. Just once for a very simple page with no graphics or Javascript, and several times if there are multiple items on the page: I have to login 5 times before it will show Google. This is really annoying - as you can imagine.

Also, the Add-ons and the extensions for firefox won't down load, but set off a dialog saying that it can't install because of download error -228. According to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_...oad_Error_-228 this may be due to a firewall or spybot incompatibility. I've got Trend Micro Office Scan client on the machine, and this works with a server on the university's server, as I understand it , if that makes any sense - I downloaded it from the IT department's antivirus page.

The Trend OfficeScan client's firewall is disabled, but I've got just a standard wind... Read more

Hi,

I didn't notice and I entered my password when I was on cyrillic input.(I'm bulgarian) So I had to write my password with cyrillic letters. It was ok for me (I used to enter the password many times), but once I restarted my pc. Something happened and now I can't change the keyboard layout. Look, there is no option in the home screen:

This image is from the forum, but I can't take my own screenshot
I also tried changing the language with the key combination, but nothing happens. Windows doesn't recognize it.

So that's my problem. I know my password, but I can't login, because I can't type the correct letters. Have you got an idea about this situation?

Thanks
P.s It's strange, but when you try to do something from the boot menu, there is an option to change your keyboard input, unfortunately it is where I don't need it:

Logged in to my system this morning the same way as always with my user name, I'll call it "user", and my password.

My computer brought me to a new desktop as if I had created a new user, apps were not in the toolbars like I had setup and the were no documents in my documents folder. Did some looking around. My user name is still there, available for login and it's documents folder still has all of my documents. But when I try to login using my name, "user" I keep getting this new user environment. I did notice that there is now another user name available that I have not seen before.... user.USER That's new. Haven't seen it before. Also there is an ASP.NET user folder, that I have never noticed before.

I can work around this problem, but would like to set up my computer the same way it was, i.e. typing in my user name and password and having my desktop and documents available in my My Documents folder.

Any ideas as to what happened?

Thanks,

Trae

A:Login Problem

looks like you're logging on to a temporary user profile.

This article describes how to recover a damaged Windows XP user profile

the aspnet_wp or ASP.NET Machine Account is created when the Microsoft .Net Framework is installed.

and here's how to configure Windows XP to automate the logon process:
1. Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2.

2. Clear the Users must enter a username and password to use this computer check box.

3. Click Apply.

4. Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK.

5. Click OK again and you're all done.

Hi guys,

I have been having a problem with my Dell Studio 17 laptop for about a week now and I need it sorted because I use my laptop daily and has important collage documents that need to remain safe.

Just to let you know, I am running Windows Vista Home Premium. The problem is, when I boot my laptop up its perfectly fine! I type in my password and it says welcome for about 20-25 seconds, then it moved to a black screen with the cursor and stays like that before about a minute, then I will start to show the task bar and icons, and then run fine!

Why? Any help please?

Because it's Vista! Seriously, it sounds like you are describing my Vista Home Premium. It's been like that almost since day one (at which time I thought there was a problem).

Just what do you want help with? Is the boot taking longer now than it used to? If so, how much longer? Did you install any application(s) about the time the problem started?

I just purchased an HP desktop. After setup, I kept getting dropped out to the login as soon as the computer was idle. I was told this was a registry problem and to go to safe mode and run SFC. That did not resolve the problem. Then I was advised to simply disable the login by going to RUN, keying in control userpasswords2 and unchecking the password requirement. I did that. It continues to drop back to the login screen as soon as its idle. (Btw, I tried this on my Sony laptop and it worked fine). Now the login gives an icon with my name and Underneath it says locked> switch user. I hit this and I get my name and the msg I'm already logged in. When I hit this, the desktop finally displays.I tired going back and checking and unchecking the password requirement and either way I get the same login notice. I tried running an MS registry fix as well as putting the computer into safe mode and choosing a repair. I also went to user accounts in the control panel and took my password out there. It seems to be recognizing two users from the login but there is only one established account. I tried going back to a password for administrator just to test it but I cannot. I don't have that option. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can use it but its frustrating. Thx in advance.

Ok so. I turned on my computer yesterday and it booted up normally except when it goes to the login screen, I no longer got the blue screen. I got one of those boxes that they use in networks. This really puzzled me. I can't think of anything that would of provoked this problem. The only thing that has ever happened lately is I updated the day before throught the window automatic update and this happened. I have been reading up on simular problems on this and most say go in and change, or something about two programs fighting for control. My extended problem is when i login, it shows my background, none of my icons or taskbar and logs right back out. I can't seem to know how to fix this. And I really do not want to reformat my computer. I have a Windows XP, but it is a upgrade from a 95 shell, not all of the hardware is up to date.

Please help. I cannot log in to XP. The welcome screen comes up as usual, I hit my profile to enter, I get a brief glimpse of my wallpaper, then it closes back down to the welcome screen with the message "logging off"

Thing is, I think I may have disabled something yesterday while using startup database to deactivate some of my startup items, clearly, I have deactivated something important here. Frustratingly, I cannot reactivate the damn thing cos I cant get onto my PC, also, I dont know how to get the PC to boot up so I can choose to start in safe modem which I think will bypass the login screen. Only way I can get the choice of startup modes is by crashing the PC during loading, but then I have a USB keyboard that doesnt activate and, therefore, allow me to arrow up and choose safe mode.

This is driving me nuts, please help

You need to get into safemode and figure out what you turned off. Reboot the machine, as soon as the BIOS startup screen comes on start tapping the F8 key. A screen should come up that asks you what you want to do. Select safemode. As you have discovered, msconfig should not be taken lightly. If you don't know what something is, it's best to Google it first. Instead of using msconfig, try Mike Lin's starter control panel or Codestuff StarterMark

None of the software running on your PC should affect account access when logging into a website.

Do you have another PC that you can try it on?
Have you tried clearing cookies and browser cache?
Have you tried another web browser?
Are you sure you're entering the information correctly?

Welcome to TSF!
Takes a bit of work to fix, but it's not too difficult. i find using a Vista/Win 7 Recovery disk is the easiest method, as you don't have to guess what file name the malware used. You also don't have to build the disk, just download and burn the ISO file to a disk.

The looping logon can happen if your spyware software removed the wsaupdater.exe or winlogon86.exe malware file, or if the userinit.exe file is missing, corrupted, or being redirected. You'll need to use the Recovery Console, a Vista/Win7 DVD, or a Live CD to fix this.
If the userinit file is being redirected, you need some way to edit the Registry, so the Recovery Console won't do.

Ultimate Boot CD for Windows
BartPE CD/DVD
A Vista RE disk can be downloaded from one of these links:
Vista Recovery Environment CD
64 bit Vista
32 bit Vista
Windows 7 from here:
Recovery Environment CD

Looping Login Fix using a BartPE CD

Recovery Console Steps
Boot to the Recovery Console.
Set your system to boot from CD, either by setting the boot order in the BIOS, or using the boot menu if your system provides one, usually by pressing one of the FX keys; F9, F10, F12 are common.
Insert the Windows XP CD and boot the system.
When prompted to Press any key to boot from CD... press any key like Spacebar or Enter

When you boot from the CD, the following is displayed:

Hey Guys,

I have somewhat of a weird question. I recently had an interview where one of the question goes something like this "A customer cannot login to Windows XP since he keeps getting an error message, 'unable to login.....blah, blah, blah exceeded'.

The problem is that I do not remember the entire question nor did I know the answer. My interviewer told me that I can resolve the problem over the phone without 1: Providing him with the admin right username/password 2: The solution can be provided over the phone 3: Without having him logon to another domain 4: Without me having to go into Active Directory or any other type of Admin application

I guess my question is, is there some place where I can find all Windows Login errors so I can remember the question or does anybody know what the error can be?

I need to know since I have a follow up interview with the same guy and he will be asking me this same question. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, I delete administrator account from "Local User and Groups". Of course, stupid. But, wait, I did it for some reason. My pc was set to login automatically without password, but every time I start my win it says "password is incorrect for this user" or something like that. So from MS account I tried to find that another one annoying preventing me from automatic login. But I cant find any other account.

Hey Julian

Your password should not be affected by changing languages it will always stay the same.
The only thing that may make a difference here is your keyboard layout and this should always be set to the corresponding country to which it applies.
You may or may not be able to change the keyboard layout at login

Hope this helps

I recently have recovered from a hard drive crash, yet was able to clone most all of the old drive and WinXP installation over to the new one. When I did, it seemed like it was booting up, and did a CHKDSK and fixed several errors in my MFT. Since then, I am able to get up to the point where it says "Starting Windows" right before it pops up my login window, but the login window to input my username/password does not show.

I figured it might be do to a corruption of my Documents and Settings folder, which XP also checks in order to login, but I can't copy the clone of that directory that I have on my other hard drive in Recovery Mode using the XP Bootable CD. It won't allow me to change to the c:\Documents and Settings directory at all, or to the backup copy of it I have on my other drive.

I do have a backup of my system state on one of my hard drives, but without access to NTBackup, which you can only run in Windows mode, I cannot restore my system state to get it running again. I've tried an In Place Reinstall of Windows, but it did not fix the problem.

Previous to the hard drive problems, I experienced a "Boot.ini is corrupt or missing" and a "HAL.dll is corrupt or missing" error. When I run bootcfg /scan from the repair console it does not find the original Windows installation on C:, only my copy of it on my E: drive (2nd hard drive). Am I totally SOL here or can anyone help? I've exhausted all my technical knowledge ... Read more

When the computer starts up the user icon shows up, normally there is a password entry field below automatically. Now for some reason I have to press the up arrow key every time to prompt it to let me enter my password. It does not stop me from logging on...It's just annoying.

Anyone who can provide a solution, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, a list of things that can cause this to happen in the first place would be very usefull to me. I know what caused it this time I think, because it happened right after I tried to connect two computers via a crossover cable and whatever settings I changed messed up the login window on both windows xp computers as stated above.

Now the login gives an icon with my name and Underneath it ways locked> switch user. I hit this and I get my name and the msg I'm already logged in. When I hit this, I'm in. I tired going back and checking and unchecking the password requirement and either way I get the same login notice. I cannot do a system restore as the problem was there with setup. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can use it as is but why should I have to put up with this on a brand new computer. I'm so frustrated! Thx in advance.

I think you forgot to activate Windows XP within the 30 day grace
period. I personally have done this on a few boxes and the way to
fix it is to do a Windows XP repair install. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;315341
You may need the product key for Winxp, you will need to activate
Windows XP and to possibly reinstall the security updates when finished.

There is a small possibility that you have a virus or have unintentionally
deleted a registry key with the Spyware or Antivirus software.

You may want to try a free online virus scan

Hello,

Recently I have been having problems with my Compaq laptop. It happens whenever I restart. It gets to the login screen where I enter my password (I'm the only account), When I enter it and login it comes up with the "Logging in.." thing and then nothing.. It stays like that for at least 2-3 minutes then it loads my desktop background and nothing again, then in about another 2-3 minutes I get the windows logon sound and then nothing at all. It stays like that. I can press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and the "Windows Task Manager" appears fine but nothing else loads. No programs, no taskbar, no icons on the desktop. The only way I can use it fine is if I tap f8 as I restart then go to "Restart with the most recent configurations that worked" (Something like that, I cant restart right now to check exactly what it says). It's a little annoying having to do this every time I want to use my laptop. If anyone can help I'd be much appreciated. Here's my computer specs:

Windows XP Home Edition: Service Pack 2
HP Intel(R) Celeron(R) M Processor 1.50GHz
512MB RAM
Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Graphics Card
Direct X 9.0

If you need anything else let me know. Thanks again.

Hi, on my computer when i log on is says "domain not available". I have tried logging in many times and have tried restarting and so fourth. please help

A:Login problem

Are you logging into a domain of some sort? what type of login screen do you have?(Welcome screen or Old style[basically if you have to click your user rather than type it in a "user" text box you have the welcome screen])

I'm unsure if the domain is changeable in the welcome screen but try clicking on the other things in the welcome screen to see if you can see a "Domain" text box and ensure it's the name of your pc..

Cheers,
Jamey

I updated to windows seven about a month ago and no problems until this week. I turned on my computer and loged in, and it was extremly slow and unresponsive. When I say extremly slow, I mean it took over an hour and some of my desktop icons were still white. I tried Ctrl+Alt+Delete and closed every single open process it would let me, and still no luck. I booted in safe mode and turned off everything that started at login that wasn't a toshiba process. I have no idea what the problem is however when I first noticed the problem in the bottom right corner it said Windows 7 build 7600 invalid. Or something along those lines so I foudn the activation thing and activated it and now i don't see the message any more but im still having the problem. Starting in safe mode with networking is still fast though. I have a Pentium(R) Dual Core Processor with 3 GB of RAM running 64-bit operating system. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Got to search, type memory diagonostic. Make sure memory is ok

Go to device manager check processors.

Run antivirus scan, see results (This is my hunch)
