I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Friend's laptop "wouldn't boot up" HP G6-247CL
Turned out video output was channeled to the vga port Fn+F4 on this model switched back and forth.
Cleaned out tons of viruses, everything good now, but laptop boots up with monitor #1 (Generic PnP monitor on NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G) as remote vga jack, and monitor #2 (default monitor on NVIDIA 8200M G) as my laptop screen as disabled.

When I try to make the laptop screen enabled (by extending the screen to it, then selecting "this is my main monitor), and click apply or save, it asks me to confirm, but doesn't take.

Deleting the drivers can sometimes get the laptop display running as primary, until the next book, then it all reverts to the remote vga port as primary.
if I boot with a linux disc - Kaspersky rescue, for example, it uses the laptop screen just tine.
So what, in a perfect world, should be my primary screen (the laptop screen) is identified as monitor 2 in DISPLAY SETTINGS. My VGA jack should be secondary but is always monitor 1

other notes: Fn+F4 no longer does anything ... will not switch between, I guess because my laptop screen is disabled.

Ok, I made a really stupid decision. I was having issues with my monitor until eventually, the taskbar and all icons disappeared and the only thing left was my wallpaper. My cursor went offscreen. So I right clicked, selected properties, and nothing happened. Then I realized that the window opened offscreen and after a while of clicking and dragging, I brought it up and started trying options to make it work.

Nothing worked.

Then I saw a checkbox "Extend Desktop To Monitor", unchecked it and clicked apply. Then I realized what I had done, and it was a bad decision because my laptop screen is completely broken, and I cannot use my monitor.

What do I do?

Hello all,
I have a Phillips 32" LCD (model # 32TA2800/98) that I connect my laptops to with a VGA cable. I usually had my Gateway NV53A (AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4200 series Graphics card) connected and I never had a problem. Recently I connected my Samsung to the monitor and again, had no problems. When I reconnect my gateway the PC detects the monitor but the monitor does not detect the PC. If I switch back to the Samsung it works fine. I have reset the TV to factory default the only way I know how (owners manual). I have unplugged the power cable to the TV for 10 min+. I have changed from a 14 pin VGA to a 15 pin. I have updated all drivers.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

A:1 monitor (Phillips 32" flat screen), 2 laptops, only 1 laptop detected by monitor

It appears this one has got them all stumped. I really need help with this one and I am at a total loss. I would be forever in someones debt.

Could it be that the TV has a capacitor that holds the settings for an extended period of time? Maybe I should leave it unplugged for 24-48 hours?

I have a dell laptop that has 1920x1080 resolution. However, i connect it to an external monitor that has 1920x1200 resolution. Basically almost everything i do is on my external monitor which acts as my main primary screen. Thus i do sometimes open some windows or drag a window or so to the other screen like youtube etc to the laptop screen which is the secondary monitor.

My issue at the moment is everything is way too big on the laptop screen. I want to have 1920x1080 resolution but its way too big. I googled what is my resolution on it and it shows 1536 x 864. Can someone tell me how to change this to 1920x1080? I googled what is my resolution on the external monitor and it does show 1920x1200 which is correct.

My external monitor which is my main monitor is fine at the moment with the 1920x1200. Its windows 10 but im assuming this should be very similar to windows 7 to fix this issue?

I have an HP laptop and I have been running it with dual monitors. I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and after I installed it I noticed that the built in monitor of my laptop looked strange and when I opened the display settings to change the screen resolution and set the external monitor as a separate monitor rather than a mirror I noticed that only one monitor was detected and it was the external one (Generic non-pnp monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter) and the built in monitor does NOT show up at all.

I've tried the detection button, in hopes that the computer would read the built in monitor and I could fix the problem. This did not help. I tried unplugging/replugging the external monitor to no avail. I tried restarting without the external monitor plugged in and it STILL reads the built in monitor as if it is the external one. Is there anyway to fix this? I have not tried re-installing the OS, not yet anyways.

Any suggestions ?

A:Monitor Issues - Laptop Reading Built In Monitor as if it were my external monitor.

Question: How can I reactivate my monitor without reformatting the hard drive?
This is what happened:
Two monitors were hooked to my computer, (Dell Inspiration), and I had to reduce it into one monitor.

I opened: screen resolution
Clicked on: Advanced settings
Clicked on: Monitor
Clicked on: Driver
Clicked on: Disable

After I did that, one monitor became completely dark, and the second monitor display was if it would run in safe mode, (graphic quality was so bad, it hurt to my eyes to watch it). I checked the device list and both monitor was removed from the list, there were no monitor listed anymore (before they were there).
I tried the system restore, but after the system restore finished, there were no more connection with the monitor.
When I start the computer, the monitor works for few seconds, shows the start up process, and right after the windows logo displayed, it shuts off. I tried to reboot in "safe mode", and it starts up as usual, (the monitor works), but before it reaches the desktop screen, it shuts off.
Windows version is: Windows 7
Computer: DELL Inspiration 546s
Operating System: 64-bit
Processor: AMD

Thank you in advance for your help

A:[SOLVED] windows 7 - monitor driver disabled - monitor does not work

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking, go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, are there any devices with a Red or Yellow flags next to them? If It is Red (Disabled) then right click it and Enable it.
If it is a Yellow Exclamation mark, then you need to download the video driver for your model. First try Right clicking the yellow mark and then Uninstall. Then Right click any device and choose Scan For Hardware Changes, this should reinstall the previous Video Driver, then restart the computer in normal mode.
If that doesn't work, Go to the Dell Support/Download drivers site Product Support | Dell US type in your service tag # or make and model# and download the Video driver for your model.

I am using a 22" screen for my primary screen and the laptop lid open for a secondary screen. The main screens resolution is 1680x1050, I can set it to anything I want and it's always using the full screen. The laptop screen on the other hand will only use the full screen if it's at 1400x1050 resolution (max for that screen, IBM Thinkpad T43). With the large 22" screen I have no trouble reading the screen at high resolutions, the screen is huge, with the little 14" screen though I have to strain to read the screen at 1400x1050.

The problem is when I set the laptop screen to anything lower than 1400x1050, it uses less of the screen. Preferrably I want it at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (I dont know which I want yet as I can't see the freaking screen at that resolution). At 1280x1024 for instance the useable screen is just a box in the middle, so the "1280x1024" is still barely readable for me cause it's shrunk from full screen, plus it's just annoying only using a portion of the screen.

I have played with the ATI Control Center, the Thinkpad display settings and windows display settings and just cannot get this thing to go full screen at lower resolutions when docked and using the external monitor.

Anyway to resolve this?

Hi, I have 3 screen. I can't enable more than 2 screen at the same time. With 7 and 8 I could switch between all the monitor in screen resolution easily and decide my main.

But now with 10 I can only see the screen than are enable. I have to open the AMD software to enable and disable screen and then screen resolution to choose my main display.

Is there a way to show all my monitor in screen resolution like before? (even if I click Detect it does not work) It would be even better to do all that with shortcuts.

Thanks!

A:Help: Video card disabled monitor screen blank

Since you disabled the 9200, then I suppose the monitor is plugged into the 9800. And I'll also make the assumption that you have installed the necessary drivers for the 9800. Is the 9200 an intergrated video card?? If not, why would you have two?? Anyway, have you tried plugging the monitor back into the 9200?? Do you see anything??

I replaced the graphics card on a spare PC, but couldn't install it so changed back to the old one, but before doing so, disabled the monitor. Actually I went into Display Properties and then Monitor, Properties and under Device Usage at bottom, clicked on 'Do not use this device (disable)'

Question is, how do I re-enable it? BTW, I have it networked to other PC but can only get into shared docs

Anyway, now I get a screen view until Windows kicks in and then it goes totally blank (though I can hear Windows start via the speakers)

I've tried to start it in safe mode but it just stops with a list of driver names without going into safe mode (just seems to hang)

I tried using the last known good configuration but this didn't help either

Help please!

Thanks, Stephen

I had posted this on the Monitor forum, but they said this is a Windows 10 issue and not a monitor issue.  When I disconnect the P2715Q from the laptop and start to use the laptop LCD, everything is OK. When I reconnect the P2715Q to the laptop, I notice font changes. In Windows 10 File Explorer the font in the left panel is larger than the right panel, and the fonts in Quicken are smaller. When I reboot the laptop, everything is back to normal on the P2715Q. Is this normal?  Is there a setting in Windows 10 that I need to make so I don't have to reboot when returning to use the P2715Q?

Anyway, is there a setting somewhere that I need to address??

My desktop icons are always on my external monitor desktop. I had moved the hdmi cable connected to my laptop i believe which caused all my icons from my external monitor to go on the laptop monitor. Also there is even spacing on all of the icons. Has anyone had this happened? I then clicked sort and then it rearranged so there is no spacing etc. However, i then noticed hey why are my icons on my laptop monitor and not my external monitor.

Does anyone know why this happened? When i open chrome and other programs, it does open up on my external monitor though which is my primary monitor. I believe i can just drag each of the icons on my desktop on my laptop screen to my external monitor. So just do this and that fixes the issue right? Or is there a way to have all the icons just move to the external monitor. The reason i ask this is in case the icons just suddenly move to the laptop screen again.

I didn't know if I should have put this in the general discussion page or the video card page but here it is.

My laptop has been acting up today. I would open the lid and it would have strange colors. For example blues would be a strange red color. But it would automatically fix itself and go back to normal colors.

I was suspicious but didn't think much of it. Later today I walked past it and the monitor was black nothing on it. So i pushed the power button and shut it down.

Than the fun began It would show me the splash screen Dell when you first boot it up like for some it would say ASUS or such depending on the mobo they had installed. It to had messed up colors only it did not correct this time than the screen went black. I waited a few minutes hoping it would wake up and give me a screen.....witch it never did.

I rebooted several more time trying to get into the bios or anything with a screen witch also failed. The DELL splash screen never failed to come up though.

After close observation I noticed there was something on the screen it was just really dark and barely readable. It said something to the effect of "Windows has failed to start" and gave me the option of booting normal or startup repair.

I eventually shut the lid and got a secondary monitor and tried to use it. Apparently shutting the lid disables the primary monitor and lets you use the monitor you plug in. And now I have a screen again. It worked.

A:Laptop monitor dilema. Is it the monitor or the intigrated video card.

Hi computergeekguy,

Since you are getting 'video' on an 'external display', it appears to be an LCD related issue with the laptop. You may also try to run the LCD BIST (Built in self test) to check the 'LCD display performance' when separated from the 'graphics'. You may find the following steps useful:
- Power off the laptop
- Press and hold down letter <D> on the keyboard
- Power the laptop back on (continue to hold the letter <D>)
- Laptop enters in the 'LCD diagnostic environment' (check the performance)

If your laptop does not enter the diagnostic mode, you may also try to release the 'flea power':
- Power off the laptop
- Unplug the AC Adapter and Battery
- Press and hold down the 'power button' for 10 - 15 seconds
- Plug the 'Adapter cable' back in and launch the 'LCD BIST' again

Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.

Im doing this for my Dad, so i have absolutely no idea how to describe the problem but i figured this place was my best shot as google is giving me no results on my query.
There appears to be no monitor drivers installed on the pc... and its running from the bare minimum settings. I think the refresh rate is set at a low low low setting, because lets say, if i move a window by dragging it across the screen, its all choppy, doesnt move smoothly at all... sort of like it jumps every half a second until i stop moving my mouse, then stops. The same with when i'm scrolling in internet explorer... smooth scrolling doesnt exsist! lol

I figured it was a driver problem seeing as there wasnt one installed. So i found the disk with the drivers on, and followed the instructions, which were as follows:
"Right Click" the mouse anywhere on the "BLANK" area on the desktop and click on PROPERTIES.
Click the SETTINGS tab and then click ADVANCED.
Click the MONITOR tab and then click PROPERTIES.
Under MONITOR PROPERTIES, click DRIVER then click UPDATE DRIVER.
On the HARDWARE UPDATE WIZARD, select Install from a list of specific location (ADVANCED) then click Next.

I am one of the few people to still have one of those bulky monitors of yesteryear. I've got an broken laptop and the screen looks to be in good shape. I don't know how to go about making it work a desktop monitor or it it would even work but I'll tell you all I can ahead of time. It's a 15.4" screen from a Compaq Presario X1000. The frame to it is gone so all I have is a screen connected to the rest of it hanging by some wires. The wires it's hanging by are a flat collection of wires that seem to be laminated together or something. There are 14 wires laminated in total. There is a bare copper wire followed by three wires that are metallic red, followed by 9 metallic blure, followed by another bare copper. The red and blue seem to be painted or something as opposed to the insulation I'm used to as a residential electrician in training. When the lamination ends it is wrapped in gray nylon. This goes into the laptops screen hinge. There is more wire coming out from the gray part, wrapped in black nylon with a white plug type thing at the end. This is plugged into something labeled SPS-Inverter, It's a green board with some stuff on it. On the other end of the inverter there is white plug recepticle with a white wire and a pink wire plugged in it. This is my first real computer DIY aside from swapping out a power supply and adding ram, keep that in mind.

Hi,

A disclaimer before I proceed. Im not the best with computers or computer terms.
I have a Samsung laptop (not sure of the model), and the screen broke months ago. Since then I've been using an external monitor without any issues until today. When I start up my laptop I can never see anything displayed on the external monitor until the log in screen. The monitor will always go into hibernation mode until the log in screen.

However, today it's taking longer to start up and I cant see what's going on. At first I thought windows was performing a disk scan but i waited over an hour! So that must not be the issue. I want to find a way to display what is happening on the external monitor if possible. I have been endlessly searching all day online for help. I would really appreciate any help/advice.

Thank you!

Hi,

Today I plugged an hdmi to vga cable into my Win 8 sony vaio, and I plugged the other VGA side of the cable into an acee 22" monitor. I then chose from the right hand windows 8 panel to "extend to monitor", the laptop screen went black, the monitor screen remained without signal (extended screen did not show on monitor) and now the laptop screen is black.

I am now stuck and both laptop and monitor screen not working.

I tried unplugging cable, pressing fn and all the f1 to f12, shift, windows button but nothing is working.

I pressed off button then switched laptop back on and it showed the sony vaio logo on laptop then the screen went black again.

Please tell me how could I return my laptop screen to work and stop the screen extension which is not working and which I am sure is the case.

Any buttons on keyboard to click at all?

Any solution is highly appreciated.

Thank you

It's stuck in an extended screen it seems, boot into Safe Mode while you have all external monitors unplugged - Your Display is probably set to a resolution too high for both the external monitor and the laptop monitor, so you'll have to try "Boot to VGA mode" and I don't know where that is in the Windows 8 Boot GUI, if it is even in there at all.
Here is is- There are several ways to get to that from the Boot screen:

I checked out the device manager and it said the video controller (vga adapter) driver was not installed so i installed it thinking that would fix my problem but it has not. It installed mobility radeon 7500 adapter i believe. Does anyone have any advice. Also, when i look at the display properties, it says i have multiple monitors attached when i do not.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Ps. Its a dell latitude 2.40 ghz with 1 gig of ram

A:Laptop monitor all choppy - monitor problem?

First, the multiple monitor issue: common with laptops, as they can support the primary LCD and/or an external monitor.

Next, go to dell.com and see if there any drivers for your laptop's lcd. This could solve the problems your having.

The laptop our family shares recently had its monitor broken. It displays half of the screen, but will not stop shaking. I have it hooked up to an external monitor, but I am unable to use it to display the laptop screen without changing the display settings via the laptop. Is there some command I can use to set the external monitor to display the laptop screen? Or do I need to replace the laptop screen?

Hi All,
I have an external Envision flatscreen monitor that I have been using attached to my laptop for around a year. I have the monitor displaying on both laptop and the external Monitor. Just recently I had a pc issue which I have rectified and my external monitor since rectifying that issue now displays fuzzy. What can I troubleshoot to find out my issue. I've reviewed the Graphics and Display Properties. It is currently sitting at 1024 by 768, Color: True Color and Refresh 60HZ. The odd thing is that when I am in Display Properties, Settings tab, the left monitor in top is black (this should be my laptop) and the right monitor in the pic, which should be my external monitor is gr3y. When I have pressed on the black monitor, and press Identify it indicates 1. When I press on the grey monitor and press identify, it says it is not active, although I do have an image on my external monitor (fuzzy image). When I click the arrow on 'Extend my Windows Desktop this monitor' the right monitor then is black and when I press on it and press 'Identify' it says it is 1 as well. Is this correct. I know this has nothing to do with the fuzziness but still thought I might see if this is an issue or not.
When I right click on my desktop and go into Graphics Properties - I just get confused as to what this is all about. When I go into Display Tab the Monitor is checked, I can check on any of the others i.e. Notebook, Intel Dual display clone or Extended Desktop. Re... Read more

What do I need to stop this? Do I need an anti-protective screen, an UV screen, an anti glare screen? what?

Any link for example on Ebay would be helpful.

My sister has an HP laptop and I wish to use it as a monitor for my desktop computer as my main monitor has died. How do you get a laptop to display whats on your desktop PC?

From what I know, the cable that connects the monitor to the PC fits into the laptop, but only changes the resolution of the laptop screen (adding two thick black bars on each side).

So how do I make whats on my desktop computer appear on the laptop?

I have a HP Pavilion QV5000 series laptop with XP home SP3 running. about 7 years old but still a somewhat sturdy machine. Recently (unknown as to what happened before this started as it is located in the living room and my kids use it when they grace mom and dad with their preasance) when I boot the machine the monitor display covers only 75% of my screen. 15" wide screen. Sometimes if I continued to reboot it would eventually display properly across the entire screen. Lately it is taken more and more reboots and now I can hardly get it to go beyond the 75% screen at all. The far right hand side of the screen stays blank (black) from top to bottom. I have tried to adjust the display settings to no avail. There is an option for a single monitor or a dual display in the settings and I have tried to reset this to a Single monitor as it seems to go to dual display by default, I have clicked the 'apply' tab after selection, (just in case I get that suggestion) but nothing really seems to change. No bugs seem to be present as AV, spyware and anti malware all come up empty. Also at the bottom of the 75% (and wthin the 75% display I do have a complete page like its just not widescreen.) the display begins again for the top row of data. as in from my desktop the top row of icons appear again beneath the bottom taskbar. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is it just to old and need to go? Thanks in advance so much! (also the 80GB HDD only shows to be 60GB, don't... Read more

A:laptop monitor screen 25% missing??

you said, you checked the display properties? Did you try to change the screen resolution? Some programs alter it, I had to eventually delete the program that change the resolution and made my screen smaller.
What did the kids use computer for, that might give you some better ideas.

A:Can I have more than 1 extra monitor screen on my Laptop

Davidpne If your laptop only has one video output jack, you can only connect one monitor to that jack. However, there are USB-to-Video adapters available that can connect monitors via VGA or DVI -- depending on the adapter. Understand, though, that you are limited in the bandwidth of the connector and the USB port.  You're not going to see the same resolution and performance with a monitor connected to a USB adapter as you do with a monitor connected via a VGA, DVI, or DP port. Good LuckI am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.========================================================================If you feel my suggestions helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol to say thanks! If they helped resolve your issue, please click "Accept As Solution" to help others find similar information.

Hi,

I have an HP G60-121WM Laptop computer and I was wondering if anyone had any help regarding a laptop that all of a sudden the monitor is black. The laptop seems to power on but the laptop is bad. I've tried taking the battery out and unplugging the charging cord, then holding the power button for about 30 seconds and then plugging it back up and powering it back on and that has not helped. I've also tried hooking it up to another monitor, but it has the black screen on the other monitor as well. Finally I've also taken the ram sticks out and switched them up to see if there was anything with those that could be causing the problem and it didn't seem to work either.

HI all
I am hopeing you can solve a problem.
i have a screen from a gateway solo laptop i would like to adapt it so i could plug the screen in to the monitor socket of any computer and it would work.
The plan is for it to built into the lid of a tour case as having a small light portable screen would be very usefull for my job .
thanks for looking

One of my co-workers recently tossed his laptop, it was a dell laptop, however i do not remember the model at the moment. Anyway, long story short, the motherboard, hard drive other parts wound up being tossed or given away, and i wound up grabbing the screen. I have heard somewhere on the Internet of someone taking a laptop screen and turning it into a "regular" LCD screen. I would assume that all you would need to know was the locations of the pins, and some extra parts, an adapter and some soldering skills. If anyone has any incite or advice i would be very thankful.

Thanks

A:Old laptop screen turned into a monitor?

I have some advice. FORGET IT!

Seriously, it's way more complicated than you might imagine, since the LCD panel doesn't have a conventional interface. You'd need detailed interface specifications and an LCD controller, not something you're likely to be able to cobble together yourself.

I have HP Desktop Tower Pavilion with windows 10, I had two HP S2031 monitors in dual mode, worked fine. One of them died, I got a good deal on a larger HP 27er monitor.  I hooked it up, they were both working fine ... it was using a default monitor
setting ... and then yesterday the computer downloaded some updates, and in doing so, it downloaded the driver for the HP 27er and installed.  The next thing that happens is the older HP S2031 starts to go dark ... like it is going into sleep mode, and
then it is totally black.  On reboot, it starts up with both monitors working, but within seconds of reboot the HP S2031 goes black again. The HP S2031's buttons do nothing, other than the power button, which turns it off and on, but that is it.
I have done all troubleshooting, I did not even have them set up to sleep, all settings are at NEVER.  In coming here, I have done all the fixes I can find for similar  that are posted for similar issues, the Windows Key + W... nothing.
The create new power plan ... nothing.  the device manger>display adapters>disable then enable ... nothing.  and lastly Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>display adapter>driver tap>update ... still nothing.  HOW
DO I GET THE HP S2031 MONITOR TO NOT BE IN SLEEP AND HAVE BLACK SCREEN.  I can not figure this out and am not finding any fix.

Hi everyone.

I have a MSI GS60 ghost pro gaming laptop which has Intel HD graphics 4600 and Nvidia GTX970M GPU, CPU i7 4720HQ, running Windows 10. I study abroad, several months ago i went back home and plugged-in my laptop to the TV via HDMI for gaming like normal. Yesterday i bought an ASUS VC239H external monitor and tried to do the same thing, but there is no HDMI input signal, the Laptop cannot detect the monitor (include display settings, intel HD graphics settings, nvidia settings). This is what i tried:

- Fn+f2, Fn+f8 keys, windows P switching to duplicate or extend or anykind of options
- plug the monitor into my friend's laptop with windows 8 through that HDMI cable and it works fine, the same with other laptop running windows 7==> cable and monitor are normal
- plug my laptop to my neighbor's smart TV. There was ''connected' symbol which appears on the TV but black screen instead of image, Laptop couldn't detect the TV
- reinstalling nvidia and onboard-graphics drivers and update to the latest
- Made a clean install of windows, tried windows 8 also but the same result
- Updated my BIOS and EC
- Bought an adapter HDMI-Mini Displayport to use the mini displayport with HDMI cable

nothing works

Im sorry that i copied my thread from other forum to here therefore some problem with the text color
