Headphones not working when plugging into the monitor

Q: Headphones not working when plugging into the monitor

So I've just set up my PC yesterday along with the monitor and keyboard,I plugged my headphones into the monitor yesterday and it works but now plugging it into the monitor doesn't work,I have to plug it in directly to the front of thePC which would work except that it's position is kinda uncomfortable and hard for me to work with so I'm trying to have my headphones work when i plug it into the monitor again
Does anyone how to make it do so? Now when i plug it into the monitor it doesn't even show up under "Playback devices",all the drivers are updated as well, someone please help!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am having a problem when I plug my headphones in (I have interrnal speakers) it shuts the computer off. I'm wondering if anyone has ever heard of this happening. My guess is that there may be a short but I'd like to hear any other ideas.

A:Plugging in headphones shuts off PC

Tried different headphones? Have the latest sound card drivers? List some system specs too. Including, of course, your sound card. Also, is this into a CD drive, or the main audio out?

I was watching a streaming video with low sound so I thought I would plug my earbuds in to hear better. I plugged it in and heard sound for a split second then nothing. I unplugged the buds only to find that there is no sound at all through the speakers now.

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron N5110. I "upgraded" to Windows 10 sometime in July, I believe.

I tried rebooting to see if that would fix the problem. Nope, it didn't work.

Any ideas or thoughts? Thanks

A:Plugging in headphones, now no sound at all!

Found the fix on another forum.

Here it is:

Check the Sound devices listing in the Device Manager. What is the status that is shown for IDT HD Audio? Does it show as working OK, or is there an error code (post the code).

If it shows working OK, RIGHT click on the IDT entry to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall" DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the audio. This fixes any corruptions and hopefully will fix yours.

This fixed the problem though I don't know what caused it in the first place.

All is right in the world, again.

A mod can mark this issue as solved.

Hey guys, I'm being plagued with BSODs yet again.

However, they almost always happen whenever I plug in my headphones to the audio jack
on the front of my case. Note: I've been using these headphones for months with this computer and have had no issues.

I recently got a new motherboard and reinstalled windows, so I'm not sure if that messed anything up.
My audio driver for the headphones is Realtek by ASUS.

All files included. Thank you.

Good Morning,
I can receive sound through my Headphones/earphones, but i cannot receive any sound at all through the in built speakers through my Sony 15" LCD Monitor (just bought second hand).

I am running XP Home Ed'. I have checked the windows equalizers(?) and all are ok.
I just know the very basics of a pc. Could someone help me to get the inbuilt speakers working please? (There is just one lead running from the monitor to the tower - No extra speaker wires).
Thank You in advance for all replies received.

Alright, so it's not your sound card.

Big mistake unless you can verify that the product works before hand.

They are inbuilt after all.

No problems.

My guess is it's a fault with the hardware, because sound works fine through the ear phones.

As it has a combo headphone/mic jack, it may take a special headset?

I assume this is new and still in warranty. Best to contact ASUS about the headphone requirements for this unit.

Hi all,

Running Windows 7 64-bit (up-to-date) on an Acer Aspire 6930G here with RealTek HD audio (driver up-to-date). When I plug in my headphones, I'd like the sound level to be low (around 2 or 3), but when using the built-in laptop speakers the volume needs to be at around 50.

Is there any way to make the volume behave the same way it does on an iPhone or iPod Touch when plugging in headphone?

For example: When you plug in your headphones in an iPod Touch, you can set the volume to, say 50%. Now when you unplug your headphones you can change the volume level to 100%, now when you plug in your headphones again the volume will be 50% again.

Sorry if this question has been answered before, I've tried the search function, but did not find the answer.

Thanks in advance ,

A:How To Let The Volume Change When Plugging In Headphones?

Hi qwaszxqwaszx welcome to Seven Forums.

I must admit, I am not familiar with the Realtek sound program, as I use the default Windows one.

However, on my machine at least, when I click the "volume" icon on the bottom right hand corner (next to the clock) it remember's different settings for headphones and speakers, the two are completely independent. Is this not the case for you?

My problem is this, my motherboard is Biostar TP67B and I have downloaded the sound drivers from the manufacturer website which is realtek high definition audio. However, If i had left my headphone plugged into my front panel jack and when I restart my computer, the headphone icon keeps flickering saying its plugged and unplugged constantly when it is in fact plugged in. I had tinker around a little bit and I have no idea how to fix this problem now. Its going bad to worse as it unplugs itself randomly now. I'm trying to go for a full reinstall of my sound drivers.

A:Headphones Plugging and Unplugging constantly bug

Have you tried a different headphone? Maybe the headphone and not the PC or headphone jack.

If not the headphone, check the connection from the front panel at the motherboard, May be a bad connection there. Reseat (unplug then plug back in) the connector at the motherboard. If it still has problems I would suspect the front panel headphone jack, or the wiring.

Hi,

I just installed 7 64-bit from Vista 32-bit on my Dell Vostro 1500. 7 automatically supported my Sigmatel sound card with Microsoft's High Definition Audio Device driver; Dell Support don't have any compatible audio drivers for my new OS.

Sound works well through the speakers, but when plugging in headphones into the jack, the system's volume jumps to a different value - usually to a higher level when lower beforehand, and vice versa. Upon removing the heaphones, the volume returns to its original value.

Is there anything I can do to keep the volume constant?

Thanks!

A:Volume jumps when plugging in headphones

Hi wassupjg and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

Did you have the same behaviour when you had Vista? I suspect that it is a driver issue. The MS drivers are OK, but they only provide basic functionality. Other features, such as equalisers, etc, are only available by using device-specific drivers.

Since buying a new laptop and updating to windows 10 I have had a problem with the sound, the problem being that when I plug in a set of headphones I manually have to go on playback devices to set my headphones as default and also on the volume mixer to select my headphones on the drop down arrow or else the sound will keep coming out of my speakers. Basically it is not doing anything automatically, so everytime I plug in headphones, or connect to the tv I have to change everything manually, and do the same thing when disconnecting or else there will be no sound atall.

I did read on the internet that by plugging in my headphones and then making them my default sounds device would work because it is supposed to automatically change when they are unplugged but unfortunately this is not the case for me. Also I am curious as to why even when I don't have my headphones plugged in, they are still listed under playback, but it does not say they are unplugged. I would appreciate anybody who can help me with this problem because I have run out of ideas.

Many thanks in advance

Hi all,

If this is in the wrong forum, please move, but I figured it might be Windows 10 issue.

I've bought a new laptop with Windows 10 (first time on this OS; last one was running Win 8), and am having an audio issue. Speakers work perfectly fine, but as soon as I plug my headphones in, audio doesn't come through them. If I check the Playback Devices, the green bars on the speakers are going up and down, so audio is there, but it's not coming through the headphones.

I've tried messing around with all sorts of things. Updating drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling audio drivers - just about every option I can find in the audio panels - but nothing.

The only solution I have is if I restart my laptop with the headphones plugged in. Upon reboot, the audio will work through them. But as soon as I unplug and replug, the sound is gone again. I've also tried with a different pair of headphones and had the same results.

Never had an issue like this before, and I'm at a loss as to where to look next, with nothing on Google helping me.

Thanks for any help.

Hey fellas,

This happens on WAY to many cases I come across. Almost every case from Codgen seems to have this issue, as well as it has happened a couple times on my own case from A-Top.

When you go to plug in a headset or speakers, as soon as the metal from the stereo plug touches the metal from the FRONT audio jack, the PC instantly restarts.
It's obviously a power issues, bad ground, whatever. There is no BSOD or anything like that. Just instantly restarts. It bugs the heck out of me cause I'd really like to use these front jacks. It doesn't happen on rear jacks.

Anybody else have this happen on their case? I'd like to know if there's anything I can do about it. Perhaps add something nonconductive between the jack and case? Or put a resistor somewhere? Why would plugging in a headset cause a reboot? I'm no electrical engineer. If it's a ground issue, can I change the case in some way to stop this?

thx

A:System restarts when plugging in headphones or speakers

You know, another thing that is odd about this issue is that, as far as the case is concerned, I can "zap" it all day long and never get a restart. That is, if I have static buildup and touch the metal somewhere and get zapped, it doesn't ever restart. But only through the audio jack. So this obviously limits it to the audio subsystem.

Of course, half of it is just cheap cases, but still, there must be something that can be done.

Hi Everyone, Has anyone else encountered this problem where plugging in some speakers, or headphones into the audio jack does not change where sound is coming from if the application is already open? So for example, I'm listening to music on iTunes or Youtube through the laptop's speakers, then if I plug in my earphones, it does not automatically change output to my earphones. The computer recognises that my earphones are in, and changes the volume controls to be for my earphones, but sound still comes out of my laptop speakers. I've already tried setting the headphones as default on the playback settings. The only way to change it that I have found is I have to exit the application and then open it up again. But this problem will persist if I want to unplug my earphones and change back to laptop speakers, I have to close and open the application again. It may be a Windows 10 issue, but if anyone has a solution to this problem that would be great. Thanks,Sean

Hi @SpurCarnage?,  Thank you for your query. I grasp that if you are listening to  music and connect your headset the sound comes from both the notebook and the headset. You have set the headset as the default playback device.  If you close the music program and open it with the headset attached then you only have sound in the headset, but if you disconnect the headsets you do not get sound from the speakers.Although you have sound, please try the steps in the followind link. HP Notebook PCs - No Sound from Speakers (Windows 10, 8) Have you checked for viruses and malware? Please let me know the outcome. Thank you  for participating in the HP Forums! Hello. I recently ran into a problem, all of a sudden when plugging my controller into the usb the sound stopped coming out of my speakers. I had thought maybe it was just an error or something so I restarted and checked my drivers, they were all updated. so then I noticed that my taskbar was registering that I had headphones plugged in, when I didn't. so I unplugged the controller from the usb and the sound came back to my laptop. I uninstalled the controller drivers and figured they would re-install and the problem would be solved. ( I also checked to see if it was the usb in my laptop that was faulty and I can still connect a mouse or ps3 controller just fine) the problem still persists and I'm not sure what else to try.

Do the speakers still work after you have unattached /reattached the mic?

Presuming you are running Windows (as you haven't specified)

Open control panel, then open Sound (depending on your OS and view options you may need to click on the Hardware and Sound option first or similar)

In the sound window, click on the Recording tab.

With the Mic attached how many devices do you see?

Is the Mic on your headset set as Default?

If you remove the mic and reattach (with the sound window open) does the mic get recognised and show back up in this list?

Does it remain as default / enabled?

Hiya, I've just installed Ubuntu (Willy Werewolf) on my HP Spectre - most things worked straight away, and I'm super happy with it. My biggest problem that I've been struggling with is the sound: the speakers work perfectly, however when I plug my headphones in, sound plays through both the speakers and headphones. I've checked out the levels in the mixer, and the system is noticing when the headphones are plugged in, and is turning down the Speakers channel correctly (as observed in alsamixer) - it's just that this seems to have no effect on the physical hardware. If I change the Headphone level, this effects the volume in both the speakers and headphones. What's interesting is that, when the headphones are plugged in, the speakers actually disappear from the system settings and console listings mark them as "unavailiable". As the system appears to be doing things correctly from a software perspective, I assumed this may be a driver problem? If anyone has seen anything like this before, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance  Also the little LED on F6 doesn't come on when I mute any more, but I can live without that so I don't really care (but if anyone knows an easy way to turn this on / off via the comand line, I'll get a script to do it).

Thanks for your help Huffer, I ended up finding the issue myself.  This turned out to be a problem with the pin mapping (a couple of speaker pins were set to use the headphones' output rather than the Speaker output).  If anyone else has this issue, I used ALSA's HDA-Analysier tool to debug this and make the required pinmap changes. XPS 9350 - Windows 10
Can I make Dell Audio (or something) automatically route the sounds to my headphones when I plug them in?  I didn't see any option within the Dell Audio menu to toggle that option.
I do quite a bit of work in my school's library, meaning I need to be quiet.
The problem is that when I plug in my headphones, I have to wait for Dell Audio to pop up and then I have to confirm my selection of "headphones with microphone" before any sound will go to them.  Only then will the sound go to my headphones.  While I do this, my computer starts dinging and beeping all the latest notifications for anyone nearby to hear, until I do the confirmation.
To make matters worse, if I plug in my headphones on the Windows lock screen and then sign in, the Dell Audio pop up never comes up; however, I still get the Windows notification center give me a notice, but it is non-interactive.  So then I have to unplug the headphones, wait for all the alerts saying that I unplugged something to go away, then plug them in the again.  If I don't wait for the alerts to clear, the Dell Audio selection windows won't load.  Again, the dings and beeps are going once I sign in and do all of this.
Of course, this is all provided I didn't mute the audio before I closed the lid the last time I used it.

A:Dell Audio - automatically switch to headphones when plugging them in.

SOLUTION: the pop up menu isn't clear.
If you toggle the option at the bottom saying to not pop up each time something is plugged in, it will just automate whatever it is you plug in (at least I can confirm that for 'headphones with microphone').
The way the radio button is phrased, simply sounds like it's just meant to turn off the pop up and nothing more.

I have a Dell Inspiron 12-5378 Signature Edition computer, and I recently bought SkullCandy Crusher headphones. The headphones do not seem to be working and are not even showing up in my playback devices. I'm wondering if there is something that I can do to get them working?
My other question is that the Mic Cable for the SkullCandy headphones is 3.5mm plug which seems to be sticking out a tiny bit when I plug it in. Is it possible that the computer isn't recognizing the device because the plug is too long? I can't seem to find any detailed specs on the headphone jack for this computer. If this is the issue, does anyone have an adapter they recommend?
Is the issue my headphones or the laptop?

Hello. Push the plug extra firmly into the jack and see if it can go in the rest of the way.  When it is detected, you should get a popup asking you to select the type of device you are using.
There aren't any detailed specs from Dell about the combo jack, just general information that we pass along on this discussion board. We have been getting reports from owners that the jacks on some late model Dell are tight.

So tonight I shut down my computer and unplugged the VGA cable from my graphics card and tried to plug it into the VGA input on my motherboard. The reason for this was because I tried switched from dedicated graphics to integrated graphics (Long story). When it was plugged into the motherboard I tried switching my computer on and my monitor came up with 'no signal' and the light stayed orange. So I tried to plug The VGA cable back into my graphics card then I still got no signal!

II've tried everything from re-seating the graphics card and RAM to trying different monitors and cables. It simply isn't working and all I did was unplug the VGA cable from my graphics card into my motherboard VGA input. I can't post any detailed system info as I am writing this on my iPod (very time consuming!) as I can't even do anything on my computer. But my monitor was displaying everything perfectly fine before I unplugged my VGA cable (when my computer was shut down) I don't see what's causing this.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Why do I lose audio after plugging in an HDMI external monitor to the laptop?  When I unplug the HDMI monitor the sound comes back to the laptop.  I have a Inspiron 13 5378.

A:Why do I lose audio after plugging in an HDMI external monitor to the laptop?

Because HDMI is capable of carrying audio, so in case you plugged your system into a TV or receiver, it defaults to sending audio out of the HDMI port.  If you wish to override this, while you have a display connected, go to Control Panel > Sound, right-click your regular speakers in the list, and click the "Set default" button.  You may need to close and relaunch any open applications for them to start using your regular speakers at that point.

Hi Edwards, I am facing exactly the same issue as yours. First they delay the product, then they cancel the product and when they finally ship the product has issues. Please let me know if you found any solution for this

So, I used to plug in my guitar directly into the soundcard to make recordings, but a few weeks ago it just stop working out of nowhere. The funny thing though is that when I plug in a normal microphone it works perfectly. I can talk to people using the mic via msn and record my voice perfectly fine.

The soundcard in question is a onboard realterk ALC 883 that comes with the Asus P5GX/MX. It has both a mic in and a line in. They both aren't working anymore when plugging in the guitar.

I tried everytning I could think of: latest drivers, older drivers, format the pc, clear the CMOS and nothing worked. There's nothing muted or anything like that in the sound options in windows, since the mic works fine. I'm pretty sure the guitar and cable used to plug in are working fine because I test in another PC.

So, can anyone suggest something I could do about it?? Thanks.

I have a Comcast Motorola Surfboard rental modem. It works fine, great speeds etc etc. It has no router or bridge support.

I use this modem to connect to the web on my ps3 and PC. What I have been doing is simply unplugging the ethernet cord from one device, and putting it in the other device to switch. But of course things can't be simple...

Every time I switch devices, the modem tries to reconnect and does a cycle where every time it only reaches the "Send" light. So I have to power cycle my modem and wait about a half hour before my connection resumes...

I read something about PPPoE, but Comcast doesn't even use it so that won't help.

A:Modem stops working between plugging it into different devices?

You shouldn't need to wait a half hour, but you will need to power cycle the modem. A cheap router would resolve this.

My laptop's speakers aren't working at all, and when my headphones are plugged in only the right side works. The only way I can hear out of both sides of them is if I pull the jack halfway out, like you would with faulty headphones. But there's nothing wrong with the headphones and I've tried various different ones. The speakers themselves aren't working at all despite the settings telling me they are. And yes, I've tried turning it on and off and looking for updates but nothing seems to be working.
Please help!

That pretty much leaves jack on the laptop being faulty.

Hello,

I'm basically in need of some help with my Acer S243HL HD monitor. For Christmas I am hoping to get a pair of ear force X31 gaming headphones for my XBOX 360. I have no problem with doing this, but I also do a bit of pc gaming. I have an acer S243HL HD monitor. It's hooked up to a computer with a gts 450 palit gpu. From the gpu I have the hdmi running to the monitor. In the past I have had problems trying to get sound to run through to my headphones instead of the built in speakers on the monitor to which I have had no luck. So I thought id post on here for any suggestions on how I could get my ear force x31's to work with my computer rig. Also if anyone feels they know of any better headsets than the x31's for the same price then that would also be appreciated.

Thank you for any suggestions,

Mike.

A:Acer HD monitor, mic and headphones,

In Windows you simply specify the PC's sound card as the default "Speaker" device rather than the HDMI from the video card, this is done under Sounds in the Control Panel.

A:Sound plays through monitor speakers while headphones are plugged in

Have you tried changing it in control panel sound, or possibly through any sound package that might have been installed with the driver.

I bought These wireless headphones about 3 months ago at Future Shop. When I first installed them to my computer, they were working very fine until two days ago when I had to change my monitor because the screen lights died out. I then, bought a new monitor LCD P2770FH 27" manufactured by Samsung.

With the new monitor installed, I couldn't anymore see my USB Audio Codec Driver in my Sound Window, the one I used to set as default so that I can enjoy my Sennheiser wireless Headphones. To get to the Sound Window, one has to right-click the speaker in the notification area, then left-click Playback devices. That will open the sound Panel or window where one can see all the speakers and microphone. The only speaker I have now is "Realtek High definition Audio" . That means I can't use my headphones anymore, but my speakers are working fine and I really don't Know what to do.

This is very mind-boggling since I don't seem to be able to find a solution after surfing the WEB for a week now. I was wondering if you could help me with this ordeal.

See My system specs below.

I'm getting frustrated with trying to get all these options to play together correctly when it comes to my headphones. When I plug my headphones in the front jack, nothing changes unless I manually switch the default Playback Device. All things in question work, and well. However, depending on the convoluted configuration at the moment, either the monitor will keep playing & the headphones will play nothing, OR the monitor will keep playing & the headphones will also start playing.

Setup right now:
Monitor= ViewSonic VX2253 22"
(built in speakers, I own no others)
Connected to my video card via HDMI.
Connected to back green audio input.
Relevant internal settings through monitor= set to "HDMI PC" (as opposed to AV)Audio input set to HDMIOnboard Audio= Realtek? ALC 892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC
This is what the green audio plug is plugged into from the monitor.
Controls the front headphone jack.

I have tried as many different combinations of settings as I could think of. Any ideas how to make the monitor speakers play nice with the headphones???

A:Headphones vs Monitor: HDMI audio, SRS for Monitors, & Realtek ???

Normally, when you have something connected to the HDMI port on the PC, the HDMI becomes the default audio playback device. Thus the regular PC audio (Realtek in your case) is not used. This would account for not having headphone audio. You can manually change the default playback device to "Speakers" (your PC sound device) and then you should get the headphone sound. I would suspect you will have to do this every time you boot your PC.
