Q: [SOLVED] Updated Firefox 3.6.14 & Flash 10.2.152.32 BUT NOW Computer Freezes on any F

Hello All,

I just updated my version of Firefox this morning to version 3.6.14,
and, after the update, Firefox highly recommended to update my version of Flash as well. I updated it to Flash version 10.2.152.32, and, now, when I try to play a video on Youtube for example that uses flash, windows completely freezes, screen goes black and I have to do a hard-reboot.

I am running Windows XP Professional.

Any help is deeply appreciated!

Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Have you got an ATI or nvidia card? I know recent ATI drivers have caused problems with Flash videos, not sure about nvidia though.

Make sure you've got the latest graphics driver installed. Also, right-click the youtube video, select Settings and disable hardware acceleration, then refresh the page before playing.

Have you got SP3 installed for XP, and all critical MS updates?

A:Youtube not working with IE8 and Firefox even if updated Adobe flash/

Try turning off hardware acceleration in the Flash Player, as that can sometimes resolve issues with Flash videos not playing.

Right-click in the black video window
click "Settings",
select the Display tab and UNtick ?Enable hardware acceleration"

I have been having a problem lately where I will be using Firefox looking at a web page (one site it happened on is https://thankyoucard.citi.com/compare/, when clicking the different + buttons to view details) and all of a sudden the browser will freeze. The cursor turns into a hand, I can still move the cursor around, but within 10 seconds my monitor goes black, says it's going to sleep, and my computer keeps running. My only solution is to manually reboot it (I don't like doing that). I'm not sure what is causing the problem or whether it is Firefox or Windows. I thought it was Firefox because that freezes but I can still move my cursor (which would lead me to believe Windows is still functioning), then my monitor goes to sleep (as if my computer is off). Maybe Firefox freezes and then my computer does the same shortly after which makes my monitor think the computer is effectively off and so the monitor goes to sleep?

I am running Windows XP SP3 and Firefox version 3.6.13. Any more information needed I'd be glad to provide, including an HTJ log if that would help. I appreciate any help.

UPDATE: I just tried the website I mentioned earlier, this time on Internet Explorer version 8.0.6001.18702, and I did not have the freezing problem. This leads me to believe that it is a Firefox specific problem. Also, my dad suggested that the AdBlockPlus add-on for Firefox might have something to do with it. I disabled ABP and encountered the same freezing issue reg... Read more

Hi,
I've just had my step dad update my computer for me (he builds them). I know he installed a new drive and gave me a different, quieter box for my computer... but it has a tendancy to crash on me every now and then. I don't use it for gaming or anything memory sucking... but I have a lot of music on there!
I've done a virus check and had a few trojans from a programme I downloaded by accident, and that's sorted now. I just bought "ThemePark" from Bullfrog, and I play it for about 5 mins and then it just freezes. I can't even do Ctrl Alt Del! So I press the restart button and try it again... and it's done it every time I've tried to play the game. Is this a game bug or a computer bug? I'm doing another virus check and it's not found anything.
HELP!!

Welshy

A:Computer Freezes, No viruses, recently updated

coud be a heat problem.

you said that he installed a new drive - check that it has been installed correctly and is not in contact with any other components...

if the PC was made quieter - then maybe he took out a system fan or something?

if he builds computers, then why dont you ask him to take a look ?!

I have a dell studio XPS running windows 7 and am having a problem with flash video using firefox.

When I click to start a video in my browser the screen turns a translucent white and (not responding) appears in the tool bar. If i close firefox and open it again it works but freezes when I attempt to watch another video. iTunes is also affected - I can browse my library and even make changes but when i start playing a song the program freezes. Restarting my computer fixes the problem for a little while and i can watch videos but it always happens again after a few hours or after my computer sleeps or hibernates from closing my screen.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I have had this problem about 5 times now, where suddenly any websites using Flash will freeze Firefox. I cannot remember how I fixed it before but clearly what I did was of no use since the problem just keeps coming back.
Basically everytime I go to watch a video on youtube it starts to load, freezes and I have to shut down firefox.
I have tried:
disabling java
restarting computer
system restore - which will remove the problem temporarily
uninstalling & reinstalling java and flash

NOTHING WORKS.
This is so damn frustrating and I NEED some help

A:[SOLVED] updated firefox now it doesnt work ie does

First thing to do would be to uninstall firefox then reinstall it. This would be done by first going to control panel -> add or remove programs. once there find firefox and click uninstall. Then use IE and download firefox again. If this doesnt work, you can download the newest version of Internet Explorer, which now has the tabs feature.

Let me know how it goes.

I am running windows XP home edition SP 2, accessing internet via Road Runner. I upgraded Internet Explorer. It froze so I killed it and restarted again. It finished properly the second time, or so it seemed.

IE7 ran OK the first time. The 2ns time it froze on a blank window. No toolbars, no status bar, no nothing, just the frame and blank inside.

Other symptoms: Internet Options opens up OK from the control panel, and every tab seems OK, but when I go connections, LAN settings, the button shows depressed, and the thing freezes.

I can access the WWW without a problem via Firefox. Outlook sends and receives email without a hitch. But any program that checks internet options to see about proxy settings or similar, freezes. Example Intellicast and the Zinio reader. Example the setup program for Max Registry Cleaner and Registry Mechanic.

I ran a virus scan with AVG. The machine was clean. I cleaned up the registry with RegistryFix. There were a lot of lose ends, now it is clean. I ran AVG Anti Spyware. It has a residue of 45 tracking cookies, nothing else. I uninstalled Intellicast and the Zinio reader. Nothing made a difference.

For about 6 months now my computer, with windows xp, has been freezing on me when I get into a FLASH intensive website, and/or work with heavy duty resolution in making a photoshop file. Not all flash sites do this, but high-end flash work on a site will mess me up.

About a month ago, I did make some progress. I noticed that the freezing ocurred as soon as I would move my mouse over a flash graphic. So I disconnected my wireless optical mouse (sigh), and IT HELPED A LOT. I now use a wired Ps2 (is that the right name?) mouse. But, it still freezes up to an extent with the above described situations.

Is it a mouse conflict? And if so, how do I solve it? It's as though I never had that problem before.

Someone said it would probably be spyware, but my system is clean of it. And I defragged it, and cleaned up some space, and it still freezes.

Would a better graphics card with memory help. I have a plain Jane graphics card now, and don't really want anything more. But If it will solve this... whatever.

Thanks!

My computer, early in boot-up, freezes up randomly, mostly when firefox is used for more than 5 minutes (sometimes even before firefox shows up), and in some boots, Vista won't even open anything, then later freezes,Theres pretty much a 1/50 of a working boot up, but I've been trying since about 3:00 AM EST (posted this at 1:28 PM EST) today after it eventually froze up from printing from Acrobat Reader, with no luck (and even one boot, didn't even show the Compaq splash screen), previously, on working boots, I've done virus scans with Malware Bytes' Pro, with no results, never (this computer only got a virus once).I'm forced to boot in safe mode for the computer to work, im afraid its some sort of virus thats unknown by Malware Bytes', so im posting a HiJack This log (later, when i try to run normal mode again) with my DxDiag (please note, my brother installed a facemoods.com thing on this computer, since i think its spyware, i deleted all the traces of it i spotted). I'm using a unmodified Presario CQ50 209WM on the lastest version of Vista, which had already had one reinstall after getting hacked while a relative was using it.Please hurry i just rented a 3 Day Elite weapon in Battlefield Play4Free yesterday which set me back over 100 games worth of getting credits for.

A:Computer freezes up randomly, mostly when using firefox, some boots, computer refuses to open up programs

First of all, MalwareBytes is not an anti virus app. Do you have an av installed? If so, have you run a full scan with that? If not, and since you think it's malware related, you should probably post in the Am I Infected forum.

I purchased that PNY Turbo 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive - P-FD128TBOP-GE from Staples for only $20. I then found out that a lot of people are having tons of issues but others report nothing, but it seems like this model is getting some bad press.

To my issue: I plugged the FD into my customer built PC with Windows 7. I had to manually open up the drive from My Computer. It worked for like 1 second then my PC just locked up, my wireless mouse & keyboard would no longer work, started lagging then my PC was just unusable. However, once I removed it everything was fine again, computer was fine.

Any ideas on what I need to do? I got it on the 15th so I believe I can return it by the 30th? It's opened but that shouldn't matter, correct? In the mean time is their anything I can do to troubleshoot, try to fix it or the drive or is DOA? I don;t think it's my USB ports it has to be the Flash Drive itself.

A:Unable to open files on USB Flash drive-computer freezes

If it's occurring on multiple PC's, the drive is corrupted/faulty.

Flash drives are not reliable and they are meant as portable storage between computers. They should NOT be used as a primary storage device.

You can try formatting the drive and then testing it again.

Hey

For about two months now, when I do certain things on Firefox, it freezes. I catually don't know/can't tell what causes it to happen as in its not on certain sites each time. I could be on anything. And even if I have it minimised while i'm using another program it will still freeze my computer

When my computer freezes though. The only way I can get my computer back to normal is to physically restart by pressing the button on my computer. ctrl alt del do not work. I can't move the mouse so i cant go to start and then shut down.

Like I said I have no idea why this is happening.

I had my computer restored about a month ago, but I had the problem even before that. I completely uninstalled firefox following the instructions on the firefox site to completely uninstall. Then I reinstalled, and I still have the problem. But I never know when my computer is going to freeze so it's really furstrating because I have to use IE which is amazingly slow especially with tabs in comparison to firefox. I've updated microsoft, i've updated flash and all that stuff.

So could anyone help me out here please because I have tried everything.

A:Firefox freezes whole computer randomly

I am not a techie, so please take what I say with a handful of salt.

Both google and firefox have been making many changes in the past two months, sometimes downloading beta apps without telling the users. I usually avoid beta when I can.

Sometimes I go into the toolbar and adjust the options settings for both firefox and for google, but I have found that the problems generally follow "upgrades" or downloads and resolve themselves after a difficult day or two. I have had occasional problems with freezing or not being able to access some apps easily. Also, I have found that some security patches from Microsoft Windows will interfere with firefox functioning for a while. I don't know whether these different software designer camps regard each other as hostile or not, but it seems to be a similar problem to having more than one security program on the same computer. Maybe unintentional programming conflicts?

This is probably a problem with Flash. Normally I would suggest that you update to the latest version in case you don't have it, but I'm not sure the latest versions fixed this issue. Try and then post back, if the problem persists, you might want to downgrade Flash to a (much) earlier version.

I have pin-pointed an issue with my computer freezing down to Mozilla Firefox, or at least this is where I see it occur most often (I am a stubborn person and I do not enjoy using different browsers. I am unsure of whether or not this issue is isolated to Mozilla Firefox, and do not plan on changing to Chrome anytime soon, however, I will of course try it out to see if the problem occurs when I am using that as well). I have an NVIDIA GeForce video card that is updated through the "GeForce Experience", my Windows 7 has no updates, and I believe that all of my other drivers are up-to-date. While I am using Mozilla Firefox to type a document in Google Drive, or listen to music on YouTube (often times both) it sometimes will freeze my computer. This problem happened before and after I upgraded my RAM from 4GB to 8GB, however, before the new RAM was added, the entire computer might freeze for a couple of seconds, and then resume normal functions (and it would continually do this until I stopped using it). While it was frozen if I hit the start button, or Start + D/alt+ctrl+del/etc. the commands would follow through after the computer resumed. Now that I have installed the new RAM, whenever this problem occurs it will stay frozen until I do a hard-reboot to my computer. I have been unable to find any definitive causes of this. However, I have noticed that my mouse's curser, when this occurs, will change. For example, if I am typing a document and my curser is in that &qu... Read more

Hello.   Seems my computer is getting slower and slower at start up.   Sometimes takes 3-5 minutes after power up before logging in at prompt (Have Vista, I think Professional version - could be wrong on that )

Also even after logging in, takes forever to get the Windows prompt.  And even after that, there are definitely items running in the background since it is very slow in the first 5-10 minutes.

And when I do load Firefox, it gets a black blank screen at times before getting to a proper web site   And it is there for a considerable time (about 1-2 mins)

Thanks!

Hello Tom, so you can eventually get to the desktop?

Try doing these. Use Safe Mode with Networking if it is easier.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
[list]Flush DNSReport IE Proxy SettingsReset IE Proxy SettingsReport FF Proxy SettingsReset FF Proxy SettingsList content of HostsList IP configurationList Winsock EntriesList last 10 Event Viewer logList Installed ProgramsList Users, Partitions and Memory size.Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Download TDSSKiller and save it to your desktop.Extract (unzip) its contents to your desktop.Open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue. If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue. It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory (usually C:\ folder) in the form of TDSSKiller_xxxx_log.txt. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here..

My computer (Thinkpad Z61t) has been freezing at somewhat random points for the past few days.

I've noticed that this usually happens when I am using my primary browser, Firefox.

My computer will freeze sometimes when I am scrolling up or down a page. When this happens, my touchpoint feature on the laptop will stop working but the laptop's navigation pad will.

An attempt to access the task manager via Ctrl Alt Delete proves futile - it just returns to my desktop but a lot of the icons are gone.

I've noticed that Internet Explorer, which I rarely use, crashes also. It pops up with the "IE has encountered a problem and needs to close..." box.

I uninstalled IE version 8 and rolled back to 7, but the same thing happens.

Thanks for the help in advance,

Adam

I'm using windows XP 32-bit, and my system has 3GB of ram. Even when I only have 1 internet page open, my computer randomly freezes in the middle of a video. When I return to my computer 10 minutes later, it has restarted, or gets a blue screen. I do spyware cleanups daily, and my anti virus doesn't detect anything. I also tried a registry cleaner. My computer doesn't have that many programs installed on it. Is there anything I can try to speed my computer up and stop this freezing? Thanks.

A:Firefox/computer freezes during videos

how much free space on the c drive? are you streaming the video from online? If so, try another browser to see if firefox might be the problem.

I am using a 64 bit Toshibaa Satellite on Win 7.

When I go to thedailyshow.com I get the following message:

To view this movie you need the Adobe Flash Player plugin. You also need JavaScript enabled in your browser.

with a link to adobe flash.

I have just downloaded and installed it again, and then went back to the site and get the same message.

I use this site as an example, but I can rarely access any streaming videos, or even get pdfs on line.

There is something seriously wrong here.

I should mention that I can do most of what I want to do in Chrome.

This is really driving me crazy.

Hi everyone,

Two things related to one: Firstly, how do I set the downloads in FF to clean up automatically after download? Secondly, I can't clean up the downloads manually because it freezes FF and my computer.

I have a Vaio laptop less than a year old... plenty of ram, running windows xp pro.

Thanks.

Ella

A:Firefox downloads cleanup freezes computer

For first question, to remove downloaded files' entries from the Download Manager:
Tools> Options> Privacy tab, under History, uncheck Remember what I've downloaded
Or you can type: about:config in your address bar and hit Enter, then
go to browser.download.manager.retention and set the value to 0.
Your other problem is probably a corrupt Downloads.rdf file.
Close Firefox completely and go to your profile folder and delete the file.
A new one will be created the next time Firefox needs to write to it.
Your Profile folder is hidden. In XP, go to Start> Run> type: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles then hit OK.

oy vey!

i have a dell vostro 220, running xp, and firefox has recently updated itself.
since then, i am dealing with constant freezes (can move mouse, but nothing is clickable, task manager will not show up, even freezes in safe mode), especially when i attempt to open firefox. i have uninstalled it, reinstalled it, deleted it again, did system restores (unsuccessful), nothing is helping. i am able to get on the internet minimally with ie, but often the same thing happens, only a little later.

is this a firefox issue?
a virus?
i have been madly googling what's happening and am getting a lot of confusing information. some say that there might be an issue with my video driver (and i can't figure out how to update that btw), some elude to a virus, some advise to disable add-ons. someone mentioned that it might be an issue with all the google applications on my system (i have uninstalled chrome, and am trying to uninstall the google screensaver and toolbar applications, and avast is sending me danger-messages when i do that)
malwarebytes is not finding anything.
avast! is rebelling.

please help!

A:computer freezes everytime i try to open firefox

I probably supplied all the wrong information in my initial post - I was hoping someone might have experience with what is happening to my computer. If this does really ring a bell, I would adore it if I could know that, fix or no fix.

Since the first post, I have done a number of things, most of these probably none to wise.
I have looked through this site to find some online scanners to use (BitDefender and Symantec), both of which did not complete their work before the computer froze again near the end of the scan. I have uninstalled Avast! and am trying Microsoft Security Essentials - which also couldn't finish the initial quick scan. I am able to do all of this in safe mode, but that will freeze up too.

The weird thing is that Firefox seems to instantly freeze it - mind you that I have uninstalled FF, but the icon still remains. Even trying to pull the shortcut to the recycle bin brings on an immediate freeze.

My present assessment is that I should probably start over on that computer and reinstall Windows.
I have never done this before and am a little scared...

I also wonder if something is going on with the actual physical computer..

Thank you in advance for your input, even if it's just saying woo-woo-there-there.

Best,
Anke

Hello:

I tried refreshing Firefox, tried using only Internet Explorer (instead of Firefox), and still the
computer freezes and has to be rebooted manually.

I've run malwarebytes, avast, superantispyware, TDSS, RogueKiller, JRT, and others to see if I
can self-diagnose. Tried following advice on other threads to no avail. Even tried Combofix.
Also restored to a previous version without success. Problem started when trying to watch
something on Vimeo (though that could be coincidence).

It's been a week or two of trying out different solutions. Help!

I use Firefox 2.0.0.1 for my web browsing. But when I visit a site that uses flash for say, an online game, it doesn't display. Instead, an otherwise blank box appears that has in the center a QuickTime logo with a big question mark superimposed on top of it. Try as I might, I can't seem to figure out any way of remedying the problem. What's up?
(By the way, in case it's relevant, I have QuickTime 7.1.3 installed on my PC.)
Thanks.

Recently I went to a website and it rejected my access because I 'Dont have the newest Macromedia Flash Player', so I went through the link, downloaded it(took ages because im on dial-up), go to install it, says its finished, but I went back to the website and it said the exact same thing, I tried another website I know you can use without flash, but it looks better if you do, and it also had no flash compatibility. Has anybody else experienced this or am I alone?

Any suggestions are appreciated,
Sam

What version of Firefox and what version of Flash? Did you remember to restart Firefox after installing Flash? - Also, do you have the AdBlock extension installed? It will often block Flash content.

So I was using my computer all day yesterday then around 9:30pm my computer kept freezing while running firefox. I restarted and it did it again. I rebooted and opened internet explorer and the same thing kept happening. It had been a while since Ive done a fresh install so I thought that this would be a good time to do one. Backed everything up and reinstalled. Everything runs great now. Here's the problem. All of my clients are calling me with the same problem. I can quite put my finger on it. It seems like a virus but I cant get a scanner to detect anything. Could it be a virus or possibly a windows update? Anyone else having this issue? I amy end up just reinstalling computers all day.Edit: Moved topic from Windows 7 to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Hello!
My computer freezes, but ONLY when streaming videos in a web browser (from websites like YouTube, Twitter, Twitch, etc.). It happens as follows: I can be watching YouTube for perhaps 30 minutes, already having sat through 5 or 6 videos (sometimes this occurs on the first, however), and while I'm watching a video, my pc freez. I've tried letting my computer sit for a while to see if it restores itself, but it never has, so I always need to hard-restart my computer when this happens. I can play videogames normally and nothing happens

I've upgraded my graphics driver to the latest version, and it didn't fix the problem. Also i've installed the latest BIOS and still same thing.

I am certain that my computer is not overheating, like i said, i play a lot with not problems, at solid 60fps, offline and online wich has a considerably more demanding process than watching YouTube videos. The normal temp while not playing is around 43?C

I found and attempted two other solutions I found for similar problems: One suggested that the OP should disable hardware acceleration in Flash, which I did, but that obviously didn't fix the problem since YouTube runs on HTML now. Another solution suggestion that the OP should try different browsers. Browsers I have tried include Chrome, IE, Microsoft Edge, Firefox...

IDK what's causing the pc to freeze, i've go to the realiability tool, and the event viewer but they point to an error that means i forced shutdown the pc (error:... Read more

So I noticed I'm at Flash 19.x.x.x in my IE program at work. We use SCCM to determine what updates get pushed out and I'm wondering if maybe something isn't configured properly in the setup since we seem to be behind.

Since the critical patch thing came out today we want to get everyone updated but don't know where to find the updates to push them through

Do they show up as Windows Updates for IE? Do they say Flash? Is there a specific naming convention or KB I can look for to find them? Any help would be great.

Thanks!

A:How does Flash get updated in IE/Edge?

MS will release an update to IE/Edge in Windows 10 since Flash is embedded in the code. It will look like this and comes through Windows Update.

Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3144756)
