I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone, today i got a used T460 and haven't succeeded in getting it to work yet. When i press the powerbutton, it will spin the hardrive, the powerbutton will light up and one can see, that the screen changes to a darker black, than if the machine would be turned off entirely. The harddrive will spin and the powerbutton will light up for about 20 seconds (i actually timed it and it were 22 +/- seconds), then turn off (harddrive not spinning, dark powerbutton) and start back up. This repeats in a loop, but it won't ever power up. The seller told me, that it isn't a liquid-damage and after opening the device up, i couldn't see any signs of that either. I tried several things, getting it to work: Connect to external screen to validate, that the internal screen isn't broken. External monitor didn't receive any signal.Measured the voltage of the CMOS-battery, which was at 3V. That is the nominal voltage for a CR2032.Unplug several components and see if that makes a differenceRAM: Laptop beeps 7 times (3x, pause, 3x, pause, 1x) as usual, if RAM is not presentHDD: Made no difference at allRepaste the CPUFormat the HDD (Contained an unencrypted Win7 installation). Now i'm pretty much out of ideas what to try next. The bottom housing of the device is slightly bent, but i didn't notice any cracks on the motherboard. Also, here is some video-footage of the defect: I have only opened up the chassis and played around with what is visible from there. Hello, I was just sitting in my lecture when I tried to start the notebook. I had just used it seconds before and everything was working just as it should, but now the display just stays black, the notebook obviously still works as I can log in with the fingerprint scanner, but the display doesn't show anything anymore. I turned it off and on again, but until now nothing has worked so far. Should I call the service already or is there any solution you know of?

Looks like this model does support FHD as per psref. The P/N will be 00PA889 and cable  01AW310 will be unless you are planning to upgrade for touch panel. For replacement you can use hmm or video assembly guide

I hope the above information helped you.

Hi all! I just bought a second-hand ThinkPad t460 (20FM) laptop which was working fine when I got it. Because I just wanted to make sure I was all up to date and working I started a factory-restet (F11 -> erase all files etc.)During this reinstall I was also asked if I should erase the TPM.  I did.  THE PROBLEM:When I boot my computer, I see the Lenovo logo and the screen is backlit until I get to the Windows 10 login. Then the screen darkens and I need a flashlight to see anything on the screen.  I have run the Lenovo companion and downloaded all the updates... Does anyone have an idea!? I'm stuck. Please help! Thanks!

I recently purchased a T460 with an Ultradock 90w and when the notebook is docked it only shows battery 1 (internal) as charging. Battery 2 is not being used but it is not charging either and it is very very slowly discharging (about 3% over the last few days). If I plug the Thinkpad into its normal power supply outside of the dock both batteries charge (one at a time). Is this normal behavior or is there something wrong with my dock?

Hi,i have Lenovo ThinkPad T470 (LENOVO 20HD0002MC) and recently has started a strange problem:While booting at first Lenovo logo shows up (where you can get to BIOS by Enter key) and right after screen goes black. When i power down laptop and boot again (sometime few times) intead of the black screen there is a prompt for Bios password, like it should have and booting continues to OS.Enter key for BIOS doesnt work while it slill get stuck on black screen just right before it loads the BIOS (after trying few times with power -off/on it gets to BIOS and i can boot normally)I have BIOS firmware updated to the latest version, so as well drivers for hardware.Im not aware of any change that could potentionally start this issue, maybe after updating bios to some newer version.Otherwise im using Windows 10 with latest updates, but i dont think this could cause the issue as its way before windows loading. Thanks for the help.

Hi Issue: Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen black screen / 'screen off' on resume from sleep I know this issue has been posted about several times regarding the X1 series but .... none of those threads seem to have any kind of answer to this problem. This seems like quite a horrendous issue for a +1500 to have !! Constantly 'hard rebooting' and losing all my open work is seriously seriously annoying. Please note: My drivers are 100% up to date based on Lenovo's own update software. I have all official Windows 10 updates issued to date (21 aug 17). These are the patterns I've noticed: - It doesn't always replicate the same behaviour: after resume from sleep sometimes it's 'black' and other times it's fine. I'd say 66% of the 'lid openings' it's OK but 33% of cases it's not.- I've found that if I shut the lid again and reopen (often 3 or more times and waiting 30+ seconds on each open then 30+ seconds on each close) then I can eventually 'force' it to turn the screen on.- If I 'manually' set the unit to sleep from the start menu rather than just closing the lid, I'm pretty certain that it *does not* exhibit this problem. I'll be 100% certain once I've tried this a few more times.-  I've removed all USB devices from the laptop one-by-one and waited for the problem to reoccur thus ruling out any single or combination of USB devices.- I have the 'lock screen' shown when it does successfully resume from sleep. - The screen 'blackness' looks t... Hi Andy,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

I believe you are using Windows 10, then you can use Lenovo Vantage to control the Battery Charge Threshold from there below is the referenced attached snapshot:
Open Lenovo Vantage>Hardware Settings>Power and then scroll down you'll get the option of Battery Charge Threshold.

Hoping someone can help me with my issue. My Thinkpad T460 that I bought last October (nearly a year now) won't turn on. It randomly shut off on me a few days ago while casually surfing the web. No warning, no nothing. Every time I try to turn on my laptop, the screen will quickly flicker once, the light indicators for certain keys will flicker once (mute mic key and Caps lock key for example), the fan will turn on for half a second before stopping, and the power led will blink. This would all happen at the same time obviously, as if it's the laptop is trying to run, but fails to do so. Plugged in to the AC, the power led would blink 2 times. I've tried disconnecting the external battery, tried pressing the tiny reset button, but still won't work. Hoping someone can help! Thanks

I bought this back in 2017. It has been a great computer until couple months ago. The computer suddenly froze, and I had to force turn it off. When I turned it on again, it just won't boot into Windows. I did not install new softwares/applications for quite a while. I ran built in diagnostics, and everything seems fine. I can get into BIOS setting by hitting F1. I created a Linux bootable USB, and the computer can boot into Linux, where I can get access to my documents saved on Windows. Since I have backed up my important files, I thought I can reimage Windows. I have created a USB recovery key, but it didn't work-- I pressed F12 to tell computer to run the recovery program saved in my USB, it had windows logo and a spinning circle of dots for few seconds, and then the screen becomes total black.    Folks, any advice? Hi all, I was working on my laptop this morning and it suddenly died (screen went black, all indicator lights off). No warning indications came up before it died. It was plugged into the AC adapter with full battery. When I pressed the power button to restart it, nothing happened--no lights, no fan, no screen activity. The red light in the "i" of "ThinkPad" on the back of the screen won't come on, even when the AC adapter is plugged in. The laptop was on top of a blanket so I thought maybe it overheated, but the bottom of the laptop and the battery itself weren't hot. I removed the battery and tried a number of strategies I saw online: 1) pressed power button 10 times at 1-sec intervals, then held for 30 seconds, 2) pressed power button for 20 seconds, 3) pressed button for 30 seconds. I removed the battery and tried to turn on the machine between each strategy. I've tried the emergency reset button underneath the touchpad. I've removed the battery and tried the AC adapter only, tried with the battery with and without AC adapter.  I've had the laptop since August 2016 with no problems. No updates installed within the past few days. Help is very much appreciated!!!!Thank you!

ThinkPad E550 Type 20DF-004DUS. Thinkpad boots but sceen is black. Sometimes if USB drives or USB connections are removed, the sceen comes on. Sometimes, connecting another screen via VGA cable... the extenal screen comes on. But not always. Here lately, neither the laptop screen nor an external screen comes on. Took it into a shop and they replaced the motherboard... but that did not work so they put the old motherboard back in. They couldn't get either the laptop screen or an external screen to light up with with either motherboard. They tested the laptop screen out of the unit and it worked as expected.Sometimes I get a screen and sometimes I don't.What has me confused is exactly why these problems are happening. Could the cable between the laptop screen and the motherboard be bad? And, if so, could THAT cause the external moniter to be black as well?Have any of you experienced this?

Hello everyone! Just got my P50 today (20ENCTO1WW) and swapped out the internal 500GB HDD with a 256 gig 950 PRO. I used Samsung's software to clone the HDD's contents over to the 950 PRO before removing the HDD altogether (it was given priority over the SSD for some reason). Got it to work and man, the thing flies. I'm using Windows 7. There's just one huge issue. After the Starting Windows animation ends, a black screen shows up with the mouse cursor in the center. The screen stays there for an average of 40 seconds before proceeding to the login screen, pretty much defeating one of the 950 PRO's purposes: ridiculously fast boot times. As I use this computer in an educational environment, I need it to cold boot in 10 seconds (20 max) due to the nature of schoolwork. Upon checking the boot log text file, I discovered that there are SO MANY drivers that were not loaded on startup! Additionally, the computer seems to be trying to load them again and again before giving up. Attached is a reference ntbtlog.docx (this forum does not accept text files) file for your reference. I've run chkdsk -f -r but couldn't take note of the results. I've also run sfc using the scannow switch and it says that "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." Unfortunately, I have no access to any backup hardware or software and thus cannot perform a clean install. After reading through dreaded black screen issue for other models, I am checking if the Thinkpad Yoga also has the black screen issue. Given that this happened barely inside a month after the warranty expired, this has solid changes to be the last lenovo product in the family. Issue: I returned one home from work to wake up my sleeping Lenovo. Noticed it seemed to be in a dark screen mode with nothing showing up. So tried to press a few buttons and then finally powered off using the button. Upon restart, I could see the Lenovo sign and option to press Enter to check other options and I ignored like usual happy path scenario and let it go. At the time it usually starts showing the Windows screens, I see nothing happen. A dark screen with all the keyboard lights still working but no screen. Connected to projector to see if the login screen shows but it did NOT. Tried to restart few times, reset using the pinhole at the bottom, ran diagnositcs and tried to refresh system etc using the troubleshoot options, checked the BIOS settings - all of which show up on screen and the LCD test pass like a charm but the Windows boot does not work. Thinkpad Yoga 15 running on Windows 10 pro. 20DQ machine type. The frustarting thing is warranty just expired end of July, phone support wont even discuss the issue since it is expired. Hi guys, I have been browsing through the forums and trying various 'solutions' without success. My Lenovo Thinkpad x250 has a black screen and I have run out of ideas on how to fix this. A few points:- Sometimes (maybe 1/20 times) the lenovo logo comes on before the screen 'remembers' to go black- I have tried to turn on in BIOS and still black screen- It works perfectly well with VGA cable- I have Intel (R) Graphics 5500 as the only option in Display Adpaters. It is up to date at the time of posting (Vers. 20.19.15.4835) - The issue started after I left the laptop at work 'updating'. It clearly updated and I believe the black screen came after restarting (when updates were complete)- First couple of days the screen would come on if I connect VGA for a few minutes and remove it - weird! This doesn't happen anymore- I have opened the back and screen and it looks like the connecting cables are all intact-Everytime I turn the laptop on I can definitely see a change in the shade of black on screen - goes from black to what looks like a very dark grey (nearly black) Does anyone know how to fix this? Very sorry if I am repeating a solved question, I haven't come accross a solution that has worked yet.

Powered up our IMB Thinkpad R31 and the IBM Thinkpad logo came up then disapeared to a completely black screen. At the top left hand corner was what appears to be a computer or monitor and then next to it a lock which is "locked". We have never had any passwords on this computer, but it will let us type up to 6 keystrokes (as if we did have a password).
So, is this computer completly shot? Is there an IBM password that we aren't aware of?? I no longer have the reboot disks for this computer, but could re-load the XP that was on it (bought legally with OEM).
I would hate to take it to someone as I really can't afford to put much into this ancient machine. Just hoping that someone here will possibly know what I could try!
Thanks!

I'm not sure about the IBM Thinkpad, but most computer will bring up a diagnostics or set-up screen if you hold down either the 'F8' or 'F10" key while it is booting up. If you can get that far, it should allow you to do a 'System Restore'. Do the 'System Restore' and see if that clears your problem.
