I am confused, as I'm not really that good at computers. Does this update format your computer as I have a lot of things in my computer. Please help, I have SP2.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi smalis,Your image shows two Microsoft updates:1) MS Security Essentials virus definition update. (this should automatically update in the background)2) Intel Storage Sata Controller.Neither update will "format your computer" but my recommendation is NOT to download (#2) Intel Sata Controller from the Microsoft Update site. This type of driver from a stability and reliability standpoint is best obtained from the manufacturer of your motherboard or the manufacturer of your computer system (Dell, HP, etc) if it is OEM.

A week ago this driver was up to date (per what Driveragent says) 2 days ago, i ran driveragent again and it said i needed to update it. Well ive tried and tried and tried updating it, and it wont update. So, for some idiotic reason, i decided to delete the device and let windows rebuild it. Well, its been a pain in the keester ever since. If i revert it to a microsoft driver instead of intel, driveragent says its updated, but then i go to reboot, it rebuilds itself and reverts itself back to an oudated driver (according to driveragent) How do i fix this once and for all. Ive done several system restores via restore disks. Nothing happens. Please help!!! This is getting the best of me.

The driver it says its using is iastor.sys
I have windows Vista 32bit on an HP DV 6700

Thank you for any help you may provide

Hi,
I recently bought Lenovo Y410 notebook and it came with windows vista home premium. As i want to install WinXP in my notebook, i tried with the WinXP CD available with me. But it didnt work, so i tried slipstreaming using nlite when i came to know that intel ich8m sata 3 port SATA Storage controller 2828 is the name of my SATA controller. But even then i am not able to install winXP. After copying all the installation files, the installation process doesnt move forward after rebooting. I am not getting the blue screen, but booting is not happening even after all the installation files are copied.

In short, i just want to install winXP on my laptop.
Inorder to try the AHCI disabling option, i checked in the advanced tab of bios, but such an option was not at all available there.
Pls help.

Hi, bit of a long shot, not sure if anyone will be able to help me.

I remember a good few years back i would always use the latest SATA or matrix / RST drivers and would always update them regularly, I?m pretty sure i have had newer drivers on my laptop in the past than what i have now, i cannot find any though, every time i try to install any of the above they always say not supported on my laptop, the drivers that are currently installed are:

Driver Version: 11.0.0.1032

Date: 29.11.2011

They are very old and would like to be able to use any newer ones that would benefit me, the rest of my laptop is up to date, just not that.

Even when i run Intel software update utility it finds nothing new for it.

My laptop is Lenovo Edge E530.

I am running windows 10 64 Bit Pro

If anyone can help at all that would be great.

Hello all. I'm having an issue with the Intel Matrix Storage Mananger driver (v8.9.2.1002) and windows 7 updates. I've spent quite some time looking around the net about this issue.  Thinkpad T61 widescreen intel grapics.Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bitHDD: 5400rpm 2.5" SATA 1TB (ST1000LM024-HN-M101MBB - Samsung SpinPoint M8) I've broken down the issue to two things...  The size of my HDD (1 TB) and these newer drives using 4mb sectors or something instead of 512kb one person mentioned (if you can confirm this please do so). Which this intel matrix storage driver doesn't like apparently, so this conflicts with Windows update effectively breaking it. My current solution was to use the generic windows ACHI driver, which allows windows update to function normally. I've read in places that the solution for them was to update their driver to Intel's newer RST. But for this model laptop (T61) there doesn't appear to be a version available that supports this chipset (intel ICH8M). The latest verion that supports it from intel's website has the same issue (v8.9.0.1023).  So my question would be two things... Is there a performance or stability concern with using the standard windows driver? Is this intel driver "faster/better".? Because "if" the standard windows driver performs just as well then my problem is solved.* *I've noticed small high pitched sounds from the HDD off and on. Less so with the Intel driver installed it seems. ... Read more

Am running a new Lenovo G570 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium. Attempting to access my IDE ATA/ATAPI controller (Intel Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI controller) to check for DMA settings. Getting nowhere, because what I get is a message that tells me it is working properly. No opportunity to see whether or not it is running as DMA or PIO. The computer has Intel Core i3 installed, and the driver was preinstalled when I purchased the machine. Have attempted to rip a DVD, and while it worked, it took a looooong time to load and the result was not particularly useful (short homemade DVD that duped three times!). Is it possible to access settings beyond "working properly" so that I can be sure that the rip/burn process is OK? Help appreciated! Thanks, Jacko.

Hello.

I was/am trying to solve a BSOD issue and made things worse.
After running memory tests, hard drive diagnostics, sfc /scannow, and not coming up with anything I started to lean towards driver issues.
I used WhoCrashed to analyze my system and it pointed to iastor.sys (intel storage manager driver)
Then I used DriverMax to show me drivers that need to be updated, there were a lot but I started with 2 Intel drivers:

Intel ICH10R SATA AHCI controller
Intel 82801 PCI Bridge -244e

I used DriverMax to download and install the drivers, after updating and restarting my machine it was very slow and it crashes frequently. Takes 5 minutes to boot windows and 30 seconds or more to complete any simple task (clicking on start button, scrolling navigation sliders, opening programs, etc.) and the computer crashes before I can do anything besides open a program. It did have a message that said driver failed to install. I opened DriverMax to rollback the drivers but it crashes while doing so.

I can start it in safemode and the computer is still extremely slow but does not crash. I went to do a system restore to the point before I updated the driver and 7 or 8 hours later is was still on the logging out of windows screen. I restarted and tried again to an even earlier point and the same thing happened again. I then restarted and opened safe mode w/command prompt and ran sfc /scannow and here it is 12 hours later with only 14% of the verification phase done. It's not frozen just m... Read more

Hi.

I have the GA-EX58-Extreme Board and have just installed the pre release of Win7 7600 64 bit. Normally i have experience to get the BSOD when in staling with AHCI active in bios so i change to IDE mode. Installation went flawless and also the change to AHCI mode on Intel ICH10R controler went normal. As always i got problem to change the J micron controller to AHCI and of cause i got the BSOD again. I installed the latest R1.17.48.16 driver and tryed again but no luck. Can some tell me what i am doing wrong. ? I have a hardisk and a dvd drive attached to the J micron Sata connection.

You may not be doing anything wrong...or at least, you're doing the same wrong thing that I am. I've never been able to get that jMicron deleted to work in AHCI mode.

So, I hang the optical drive and the port for the e-SATA connection to the external backup drive off it and run it in IDE mode.

I wouldn't ever trust or feel comfortable with a program telling me about driver updates.

That being said, you always want to go to the source. You don't have your system specs filled in, so I'll just have to give a generic answer. You should check your motherboard manufacturer's website, or Intel's.

Hello,
i own a vostro 3560 Notebook, i7, 8GB, 32GB msata and i replaced the HD by a Samsung 850 Pro SSD / 256Gb. Both ssds have been formated - i did not want to use the Intel rapid storage / start technology. The problem now is the following:
When i install Win 7 / 64 bit, this  only works in the "Intel rapid storage" mode (bios-option). If i try it with ata or ahci, the instalation hangs up after the first reboot at that point, the four windows- colours come together. There appears no bluescreen - the system only stopps.
I tried to renew the bios or changed it to version 13 and then back to V17 - but no sucess.
After i installed win 7 in this mode, I tried the regestry trick with the 0 instead of the 3 to load the ahci driver. I renewed the ahci-Driver manualy , and after that, i played with the ata driver in the same way. There always is the same result: the system freezes while booting when the colours come together. Now with  a blue-screen ;-).
The system only works, when in bios the irs-Option (instead ahci) is set.

Any ideas ... and sorry for my english ;-)

Joachim

I am having problems with my drive just locking up i.e. in LOTRO at intermittent times my monitor will shut down and the game will freeze along with the computer as a whole. I don't get an error report when I reboot, and I go on to happening again. It has also frozen when a Google map is clicked in a search.

I checked my drivers and found that I apparently have 2 chipset drivers out of date: Ultra ATA storage controller and USB/AGP controller. I went to Intel and downloaded the latest INF installer utility install it properly even using the -OVERALL flag. It still installs a driver that is dated older than what is being reported as the newest driver (82801FB ver. 8.2.0.1008 vs. ver. 8.2.0.1011)

Hi,
I am going to be getting 2 new WD10EALS drives in the next day or so. My plan was to put them in raid using the onboard ICH10R controller on my mobo (an ASUS Sabertooth X58). I had wanted to run WDTLER to turn TLER on, but after reading some reviews it seems I might not be able to as it is reported WD disabled TLER on these drives completely.

Im curious if there is a way to change the timeout for the drives in the matrix storage controller? So if I do have an issue my raid won't die (I'll be using these drives in raid 0 for gaming only). I dont care about the data, I just don't want to have to go thru the hassle of reinstalling the games should a drive get dropped from the array. I am thinking about getting a wd green 2tb drive for backups but just curious if there is a way to change timeout via the controller.

edit: And by change timeout I mean how long the controller waits for the disk before dropping it from the array, like could i set it too 2.5 mins just to be sure?

A:Intel Matrix Storage Controller and Raid Timeout

For an architectural overview see wikipedia.org's page on TLER. The idea is to set a RAID disk's TLER to a value that is less than a Hardware RAID controller's disconnect timeout value. On-board Marvel (I believe) and the Intel controllers are not true Hardware RAID, thus AFAIK neither expose nor use a disconnect timeout (:. With or without TLER, when using two disks you can tolerate a fault (such as an outright failure of one disk) by choosing RAID 1. But no fault tolerance can be obtained by choosing RAID 0 (instead you will gain IO performance). With RAID 0 when one disk fails I am afraid everything will be lost .

This created lot of problem while booting , the machine would not boot at all.Along with this message I started getting this message "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" SATA disk on Controller 0, Port Unknown detected".  This message was coming very often.I along with Lenovo support did all the things possible, like factory reset etc. Finally the machine was sent out to depot for repair in July 2014. They replaced the hard drive and sent the machine back.I got the machine back on 22nd July and since last week ,ie, 14th July I have started to get the issues again. My IE and Firefox will suddenly hangon and the blue screen will appear again with same message "irql_not_less_or_equal" occasionally. Yesterday i started getting Sata disk message again. I wanted to understand why this message is coming back along with blue screen of death. Is there some problem with Windows OS or hard disk seems to crash again? Thanks in advanceshailesh

A:Lenovo G500 - Intel Rapid Storage Technology" SATA...

hi Shailesh,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

From this article, this is the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL possible cause:

"This bug check is issued if paged memory (or invalid memory) is accessed when the IRQL is too high.
The error that generates this bug check usually occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS.

If you encounter bug check 0xA while upgrading to a later version of Windows, this error might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version."

From your description, It's possible that the HDD or the RAM is faulty but it's also possible that it's a software (driver) issue -- which is the hard drive (SATA) controller.

To verify, I would:
1. Run a diagnostic on the HDD (via Lenovo's Storage Quick Test or via HD Tune)

2. Run a diagnostic on the RAM (via Memtest86+)
   - RAM - Test with Memtest86+

3, Read the BSOD dump file to see what file caused the crash
   - How to solve Windows 8 crashes in less than a minute
   - If the file is associated with the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (SATA Controller), uninstall the software from the Control Panel > Programs and let Windows install a generic Windows driver.

Good morning everybody!
I have recently performed a factory default installation on the notebook object of this thread followed by Windows 7 update.
I had some problem in reinstalling all the drivers, but I solved it.

Because I always am a lucky guy , the installation of the AHCI driver has brought another undesired issue.

I have a problem in searching and installing Windows updates through, obviously, Windows Update (WU).
When I try to perform an update research, I get this error:? Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running...?.

The first thing I did was to check if WU service was running looking into the service ?tab? of control panel.
Nothing was changed accidentally and in fact the WU service was turned on as always.

The second step, suggested by some tutorials on the web, concerned into stopping the Windows Update service, deleting the ?SoftwareDistribution? folder and turning on another time the Windows Update service. This procedure did not solve the issue.

After many others attempts, I found the solution reading a thread in an Italian forum.

Briefly, the post explains that the issue (more evident on just formatted machines) is caused by an incompatibility of Intel Matrix Storage Manager with some processes of Windows Update. This causes that error appearing without any apparent reason.

The solution is uninstalling the Intel Matrix Storage Manager software and installing a newer one, for example this suggested by... Read more

Dear guys,

I am running into a very strange issue:
I was checking my setup the WIN7-Readyness-Software and received no issues. Installing WIN7 x86 fails with the statement, that the startup configuration cannot be changed.

I tried allmost everything and did not succeed - except when disabling RAID to normal disks. So, my assumption is, that there is an incompability with the driver.

(I also lowered security for C:, C:\boot, etc. to EVERYONE - no cure)
I formatted the disks completly - no cure.
I tried tu upgrade from XP, VISTA - still, no cure.

The strangest thing is: I hade the beta (WIN7) running, but had to re-install, due to a drive failiure and drive replacement (RAID0). Now I am running RAID1. (Yes, I also tried the whole thing with RAID0).

I am using the latest driver: 5.5.0.1035.

ANY IDEAS????

Apreciation and regards,
Stefan

I am informed by the Microsoft windows 7 upgrade checker that Intel (who always claim that they have a good relationship with Microsoft) will not be providing a driver for the 83801EP (AMD all is forgiven).

I have been trying to source an alternative route eg IDE to SATA card or PCI to SATA card.

Has anyone solved this problem or even better is anyone from Intel vaguely interested in keeping customers happy.

I'm going to turn AHCI (and install Windows 8 x64) for the first time. I've done a lot of researching and now I would like if anyone could provide me right link to install them after installing the Operating system with it's own AHCI drivers, and then just to install Intel's AHCI drivers from .exe file if it's possible.
Many thanks

Hello Jil,

I get my Intel AHCI/SATA drivers at the Station Drivers link below. The latest versions are 11.7.1.1001 WHQL or 12.0.0.1083 beta.

How do I actually update the driver for this? I have win 8.1 and task manager says IAStorSataSvc (32 bit) (intel rapid storage technology) is using 277.8 MB of memory (it was over 1,000 last night) and .4% of the CPU.  My version is 11.50.1207 and forums indicate this version eats a lot of memory and the driver should be updated.  How do I do that?  There are two versions that can be downloaded,  f6flpy-x86.zip - for 32-bit versions of the operating system and f6flpy-x64.zip - for 64-bit versions of the operating system.  Win 8.1 is 64 bit and the IRST says it is 32 bit, so which one do I use?  Once I have the right one dowloaded, it is a zip folder with 6 files.  How do i update the driver, double click on one of the .sys files, the largest one (there are two, one smaller than the other)?

The floppy version is used during a new install of Windows. Do you have a SSD and a regular HDD? You can download the full Install here.

I'm trying to clean install from Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. Under Intel Matrix Storage Console v 6.2.2.1001, it shows to get a free update to a compatible version. However, when I click on their link, it takes me to some unrelated site.
I've search for Matrix Storage Console updates and it takes me to Intel's sites, but I have no idea what to choose.
The two Intel sites I've gotten to are:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24779/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver (but don't know what they mean when they say "F6 and RAID BIOS configurations need to be performed prior to installation of this driver for proper operation.)
and
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=Intel+Rapid+Storage+Technology+(Intel+RST) (Don't know which download type to choose. When I choose "Drivers" and "Windows Vista 32 bit, I get 7 choices and don't know which, if any, of those choices I should choose.)

Hi,
I was having issues with my external hard drive today and the event logs said something about the storage controller having a read error so I decided to try to update the storage drivers. I believe I had version 8.x and I downloaded the newest version from Intel's site, 12.x. I installed the software, and my system hung at "Starting Windows." I reverted to the last known good configuration, and I was back up and running. I decided to delete the existing drivers (8.x), restarted the computer, it automatically installed the 12.x drivers, and asked me to restart my computer, which I did. After this, my computer still hangs and I can't restore the last known good configuration.

Things I've tried:
- Trying to manually delete iaStore*.sys from system32\drivers
- Running Startup Repair
- Running System Restore (Apparently I don't have a restore point...)

I'm getting a BSOD when I try to boot into Windows now, but I can't see what it is.

I believe there may be a conflict of driver versions at this point. I'd like to manually remove all the Intel SATA drivers, if possible; however, I've been unsuccessful.

Any thoughts?

XPS 8100 - update Intel Rapid Storage Technology for new hard drive?I'm running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit with the original Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers version 9.5.0.1037 dated 10/2/2009. I just replaced the original 1TB WD hard drive with a new 1TB WD Black Performance hard drive after Windows started telling me the original hard drive was failing. Is it OK to stay with the old Intel RST drivers or should I update to newer ones?If newer ones does it matter that I also have a second hard drive that is several years old? Thanks!

Long time issue...Finally took a moment to post.
I can't install the latest version of the Intel Sata Driver package on my Precision M4700.The problem is the same whether I install directly from download or via DELL COMMAND | UPDATE
The update fails and complains that .NET framework 4.5 is required. I have .NET 4.6.1 installed, I was assuming this supersedes 4.5.
What should I do ? Go back to .NET 4.5, install the driver then reinstall .NET 4.6.1 ?

Go to Intel | Data Center Solutions, IOT, and PC Innovation Click on Support/Download Drivers and finally automatically find drivers. This will require installing a small Intel update utility. Run that and it will list any applicable Intel drivers for your PC.

That is what I do for the Intel CPU/Video drivers for my i7 3770 CPU.

Hi...I'm running Win7 Home Premium (64-bit), 8Gb RAM, with the chip:
Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology

Graphics is not dedicated and is handled via this Intel chip.
During Windows Updates, MS ones download perfectly.

However, I also get an additional 'optional' update named: 'Intel Corporation - Display - Intel(R) HD Graphics'

This has never succeeded in downloading.
The MS explanation is always the same: possible interruption from my connection to their server...yet never any interruption when I download MS updates at exactly the same time!

After that, I get the usual 'download Mr Fix It' software which proves itself to be utterly useless in helping me find why the download is not succeeding.

I run Avast anti-virus and Zone Alarm firewall...but I can't figure out if they are somehow preventing the download.

I'd appreciate any help on this....

Many thanks

Hi: we have a Supermicro server with an Intel C600 series controller and we would like to use some of the ports and their disks as removable devices, to allow to copy media from one server to another. I mean:
- The controller has 4 ports with 4 disk on each, 16 disks in total
- The first 4 ports will remain the same, not removable (OS in Raid 1, Media in Raid 0)
- The other ports (2-4) will be used with SATA SSD drives and we need to remove them via Eject hardware (as an attached hard drive) and then being able to attach them to the backup server to read the media.

So far as I know, there's a DWORD I may need to add in the registry, but a little help would be more than welcome to solve this.

This is the opposite way, to not allow the HDD to be ejected.

Hi,
I'm having a problem with Sony Vaio Ultrabook model with Intel Rapid Storage. Sometimes a have to format these ultrabooks, for example, when they fail to boot Windows 7 and I can't recover it. The problem is that I can't find a way to disable it without Windows. Unlike Dell or others vendors, there isn't a BIOS option or hotkey to disable it before system boot.
I use norton ghost to restore images, so what I'm doing:
1. Use windows 7 install disk with F6 key to add Intel Rapid drivers;
2. Format it;
3. Install intel rapid software and disable acceleration;
4. Restore image with norton ghost.
Googled the net for a solution but I can't find similar problem. Could you help me?
Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about the "Intel Smart Response technology" ?. It requires a SSD and HDD configured in RAID mode. The SSD is used as a cache memory between HDD and RAM.  Is it the situation you are facing ?

How can I install this driver in my laptop. Chipset in this laptop is intel HM75.Thanx in advance !

A:How to install intel rapid storage driver on windows 10?

Delete it from your hard deive. It is a hold over from Windoes 2000/XP days, which Windows did not install Software RAID drivers.

No need for that piece of software, since XP SP3 onwards has had the RAID software built into the OS.
