blue screen error on undocking sony vaio from docking station

Q: blue screen error on undocking sony vaio from docking station

wen undocking my vaio notebook from docking station, I the screen crashes, shows blue with error message about bios updates-cannot finish reading as computer starts to reboot itself. Have installed bios update thru sony. Their solution was to wipe hard drive clean-that would be very involved. How can I find which software or program created this problem and remove it? Help!!!!!!

Preferred Solution: blue screen error on undocking sony vaio from docking station

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, and Welcome
Those dumps point to atikmdag.sys which is part of your graphics driver. Uninstall your graphics driver and install the latest version.
What is the model number of the Sony?
What is the graphics chipset used. RIght click Computer > Properties. Click Windows Experience Index link in the middle of the window. Click "View and Print Detailed Performance and System Informtion" Middle Right.

I have a Latitude E7740 that runs Ubuntu Xenial (16.04). I dock it to a "Dell EURO2 Advanced E-port II" docking station.
If I boot it in the docking station, everything works fine, and I find all my two DVI-connected monitors.
However, if I undock, then put it into the dock again while running, it fails to enable the screens. I'm using a script called autorandr for switching between display modes - it uses xrandr. It tries to run:
xrandr --output DP1-1 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 0x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal --output DP1-2 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 1920x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal
But the X server responds with:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)  Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)  Minor opcode of failed request: 21 (RRSetCrtcConfig)  Serial number of failed request: 48  Current serial number in output stream: 48
Running this exact command after booting in the dock is doing the right thing, but after undocking then docking, it doesn't work.
Any ideas here? I have updated to the latest BIOS version.
Problem also reported in launchpad with lot's of debug info, here:
Autorandr script is here: github.com/.../

Hey people,

1. ATX Reset (Taking battery and ac adaptor off holding button for 30 secs and starting uo) = Fail
2. Reseating the RAM and ATX again = Fail
3. Reseating HDD = Fail (I just thought i'd do it but i knew it would do nothing lol)

win7- 64bit on Sony VPCEE31FX Vaio a couple years old.
using external Dell monitor successfully for a couple years.
Starting today, I get blackouts, about 2 seconds duration, maybe 2 per hour, and each time I get a Desktop Windows Manager alert in the Task Bar.
When I click View Problem Details, I get event: APPCRASH and Application Name: DWM.exe.

I did some searching and found a suggestion to run a SFC scan to check for any corrupted files. I did and it found no difficulties.

Today I also had two Blue-Screens come up. The messages stay up maybe 15 seconds, so I couldn't copy much. First one suggested running Memory Check, which I would do if I could find it. I searched my computer and found no Memory Check. I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and found no memory errors.

The second one said System Service Exception.

Not sure what to try next...........

Here's hoping you might be able to do the same for me ...I have a 21 month old Sony Vaio (VGN- FE31H) and it went out of warranty on December 2nd 2007. So, this is what happened:

1. A pendrive infected with virus was inserted (unknowingly)

2. Malwarebytes scanned and removed them. After removing asked me to restart, which I did.

3. I remember some system32 folder files were shown as infected but I dont remember exactly the names.

4. After reboot, I got vaio splash screen and then just a black screen. Nothing else!

What I have tried so far:

1. Tried the "unplug battery and power plug, then press the power button for a minute or two and then connect just the power plug (not battery) and boot" thing, didnt work.

2. Tried the assist button. But the first option named "start troubleshooting (recovery)" option restarts the laptop and again after the vaio splash screen, I get the black screen.

PS: The only way to get to see the 'boot into safe mode, network mode, etc" options is through that assist button. It doesnt work! I can however access the bios options.

3. Tried booting ubuntu live from a flash drive and it worked successfully. However, when I tried to open the windows paritions within the ubuntu live usb drive, it said they were "unclean drives"and failed to mount them.

4. So, I tried the Bitdefender rescue cd and scanned the whole system. It found 1 infected file (although it was more like a potentially unwanted program or something, not a malware or serious virus.)

5. Also, tried a windows 8 installation disk but it too would not boot. Tried a windows install... Read more

When I start my laptop or login to my laptop in docking station, the laptop screen often remains black. Appearantly it is sending the screen signal to the tv only. The tv is connected with an active 4k display port to hdmi adapter to the docking station. Windows key + p does not help. When taking the laptop out of the docking station, or, when disconnecting the display port plug from the docking station, there is no issue. Is there a way to set this up ensuring that the laptop always shows at least its own screen? I use the tv connection less often. I prefer not to have to plug in the display port for use. many thanks for your help!

My last two X1's (G5 and G6) have both had an issue with their Lenovo 3.0 USB docking station.  It works great when connected, but when I disconnect, my X1 screen will drop down to a lower resolution.  When I go to the Display Settings in Windows, the system incorrectly thinks it is in the highest possible resolution.  I have to change the resolton setting to a random resoltion and then revert the changes.  When I do that I get back to the normal resoltion.  Any ideas how to fix? It's really annoying to buy a $250 dock from the OEM and have such an obvious shortcoming, especially since Lenovo insits on installing so much software on the laptop already.

I have had this problem with both the RC and the RTM builds of Windows 7 Ultimate x86 on two different Dell laptops--a Latitude D830 and a Latitude E6500. Both are running nvidia Quadro display adapters (the D830 is a Quadro NVS 140M and the E6500 is a Quadro NVS 160M). In the case of the D830 I am running the latest drivers from nvidia's site (Dell didn't post Win7-specific drivers for this laptop). For the E6500 Dell has posted Win7-compatible drivers on its support site for the NVS 160M so that is what I'm using there.

In any case here is the issue. I install Win7 on the laptop and install the video drivers... native rez on the laptops is 1900x1200 (WUXGA). Aero glass is enabled and all is well and good.

I then take the laptop and connect it to the Dell-specific docking station (the D/Port in the case of the D830 and the E/Port for the E6500). In both cases there is an external monitor connected via DVI that also has a 1900x1200 native rez. The laptop lid is closed and the laptop is in suspend/sleep mode when docking.

Once in the docking station I power the laptop back on (it resumes from sleep) and then it goes about detecting the presence of the dock and the attached peripherals. The welcome screen comes up on the external monitor and I type in my password to get back to the desktop.

The only problem is that aero is now disabled (the taskbar and window borders are now opaque and aero peek no longer works, etc.). I have looked all over the net and tried ... Read more

I am actually running into a very similar issue. If I try to use Aero Peek with two HD resolutions Aero Peek will disable itself. If I do a monitor that is mirrored Aero Peek works fine. I also have a Dell Latitude E6500. Have you found a resolution to this issue?

Anyone know of a solution for this? Almost every time I undock or re-dock my laptop after a meeting, something will be unresponsive, i.e. my Ethernet cable will fail to be detected or my wired keyboard becomes unresponsive. This is generally solved by a reboot (reseating the cable to the device that is failing has not generally worked), but I don't think this is necessary to solve the problem each time. I am still needing to look at things such as drivers (knowing that Windows 10 has its own method of fetching compatible drivers over HP Support Assistant or what's offered through the site). Specs: HP Zbook 15 G2Inten 6th gen I7 Processor16 GB RAMWindows 10 Professional 64-bit  Hardware attached to docking station:Wireless MouseWired KeyboardEthernet CableVGA cable to Samsung Syncmaster BX2431Power Cable

I have seen this posted as an issue before but with no response from Lenovo. Anytime I dock my Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th Gen to the Ultra Docking Station, my system usage skyrockets to between 10-30%, causing the fan to become fully enraged. (this also occurs when undocking as well) This has become more and more annoying with time.  The only solution I have found is to scan for hardware changes under the device manager, which immediately drops system usage to >1% (where it should be).  Lenovo.... please address this issue with a permanent fix.

Hello, So - the problem appears when you are trying to use external screen which one is connected to the docking station (there is only two DisPlay ports and no others dedicated to monitors). When you connect it first time - it's ok. But when you trying to un-dock and dock again - external screen says "no input" and goes down. In other words - external screen is not working. The same issue is described over there:https://support.lenovo.com/lt/en/solutions/ht081248 Mine docking station type is 40AH, but anyway, I tried to run ThinkPad Ultra Dock 135W firmware update - but update says "the firmware you are trying to install is older than the version already installed. My Docking Station: Power adapter is 135W. All drivers are up to date. Btw - I have many of those docking stations with machines. For some of them everything is fine. But seems the problem is with docking station. I have two docking stations on my desk right now. And my computer on one is working fine, but with other on - not. So, it's clear that the problem is with the docking station.

Hi, guys,I have next setup: Dell Inspiron 7567 laptop, Dell D3100 docking station and LG Flatron e2360 monitor. And I have a problem with it.The problem is related to video cards installed on the laptop. The laptop is equipped with Intel HD Graphics 630 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. And the problem is that laptop/docking station/whatever doesn't use NVIDIA card to display the picture on the second monitor. So, if I run game or movie on second monitor it's displayed using only Intel card. Problem doesn't appear if I connect everything directly into the laptop(I guess, it's a docking station problem). How to solve that problem?

Hoping this is posted in the right place, I'm having some trouble with my Sony VAIO laptop.
My laptop seems to be crashing when I switch the wireless card on.
I will switch it on then either the system will crash straight away or when I go to run a program, like Thunderbird, a blue screen saying the following (this is not the exact error I am getting, I haven't been able to get a picture of it)
Yesterday It also seemed to crash when the system is idle with the wireless card on.
The wireless card is inbuilt into the laptop, with a little switch on the front.
The laptop is a Sony VAIO PCG-TR5MP.

A little background: I bought the computer second hand as far as I know the error wasn't coming up before I had it, I did a system restore on the laptop to make sure anything bad was off it. I can't remember when the problem started but over the past few months it has done it a few times a month but recently it seems to be coming more frequently.

The technical information section from my error reads:
*** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x01000029, 0x00000002, 0x000000000, 0x804DA6DB)

I hope someone can help.

I've had this computer for less than a month, and this already happens. Funny how the world works. I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit.

So I start Norton Anti-Virus for a full scan, and it gets about 3/4 of the way through before the laptop shuts down on its own. I figure maybe it finished earlier than I thought, so I attempt to boot up, and as it tries to start Windows, I get the wonderful blue screen.

Information on the blue screen reads:

Hi, What is your laptop ? Does it have docking port and use a PROPER docking station ?  If YES for both then yes, docking station will changer the battery on laptop, Normal USB port replicators (vendors also call them as docking startions) won't charge battery on laptop. Regards.

I am working on Sony Vaio laptop that BSOD's right after starting up. I have run the FRST utility but cannot seem to determine what might be causing the crash. I have looked up the error code given at the BSOD, but cannot find that number specifically. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have attached the frst.txt file.

Ive been a comp tech for a few years now and this is the weirdest problem ive ever seen. First their hard drive died. After running DFT on the drive, i diagnosed it was the SMART controller. They Purchased a new WD. After I installed windows on the machine, I noticed strange blue lines appearing during BIOS and the Win XP splash screen. When I got into windows I noticed that the names for the login were faded looking. Once in windows it self, if you hit the start button all the icons look like they mesh together and dont display right unless I mouse over them. And in windows when I open IE, next to the cursor there are 3 vertial pink lines. Anyone got any clue on this one? The correct Drivers are installed and still getting the same problem.

Also, On this Sony Vaio they have a "recovery" parition on the orginal HD, but because the SMART is going dead I cant boot into Normal mode or "Setting that worked last" . Is there anyway I can pull it off and install that version of windows on here so i can get my spare copy and key back? I can access the files when the drive is the Slave but I dont want to fart around with the drive with it being on its last leg.

Sony PCV-RZ10C JIC anyone is wondering.

A:Sony Vaio and Random Blue Lines and other wonderful problems??

Found the problem with the lines. It seems that the video card (GeForce 4 ASUS) was going bad. Replaced it with my old Voodoo3 3000 and it runs like a champ. Having no more issues with funy graphics. New hard drive is now working fine. JIC anyone gets the same problem.

Still need to know if anyone knows how to get the partition off the drive with windows on the new HD, so i can get my key back. Thanks.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ18E which is experience some major problems at the moment.
Firstly, I get 'nvlddmkm' problem about every 10mins or thereabouts which causes the screen to lock, go fuzzy, blank the screen and then revive and become functional again.

This can eventually, or straight away, lead to a total fuzzy screen lock-up where I simply have to hit the off button to restart the computer.
This is also interspersed by various other screens such as those below; mixed pages, blue screen, which seem to have come from the Matrix.

The computer is about four years old and the front left of it can get very hot.
Is it just knackered?
Would a re-format and re-install do the trick?

Any ideas or solutions?

A:Major Sony VAIO problems - graphically, freezes, blue screens etc

The Nvidia graphics chip on the motherboard is probably over heating. The CPU/GPU cooling port may be clogged with dust or the thermal pads or paste need to be cleaned and replaced

Having an issue with all Dell 7510's and associated docks we've deployed to new users at my employer. The external keyboard won't work at the Bitlocker prompt. These PC's are imaged for Win10.
I've sifted through the BIOS settings and have had no luck getting it to work. One thread I found said to make sure the Post Behavior -> Fast Boot setting is set to Thorough. Verified that is the case.
Note: if I undock and dock the PC the external keyboard will work that 1st time at the bitlocker prompt, but at next reboot it doesn't work.

Hi - Hopefully someone can help..

Screen keeps freezing (and sometimes black screen or laptop just shuts off), not sure if it would be considered a crash because the hard drive activity light will keep blinking. When it freezes the mouse doesn't move and I can't input anything in the keyboard (doesn't show on screen). I am still able to turn off the display with the "display off" button and the num lock/caps lock/scroll lock lights can still be turned on/off. I've tried restoring the hard drive and reinstalling the OS but I'm not able to get far due to the freezing problem. This is the third time this has happened. The two previous times I have been able to restore everything, but this time i cannot. During the restoration/reformatting process, the screen froze but I pressed enter when the hard drive stopped spinning and it was able to complete the reformatting and restart by itself. The freezing problem however, still exists. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out!

I have the exact same problem as this guy ( http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/944465-solved-sony-vaio-screen-keeps.html ).. except my laptop is SONY VAIO VPCF1 .. I have reinstalled win7 (5times) and win8 (consumer preview once).. so its definately not software issue.. its hardware.. but I can't figure out what is wrong...

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

A:Sony Vaio screen freezes.. black screen somtimes

Has the warranty run out ?

It seems to be overheating so try blowing out any dust at the fan outlet using a can of air, or use a straw or similar and blow through that.

Also try using it on a flat table or desk if you aren't already doing so.

I have a five year old Sony Vaio laptop VGN fe28h. For a week or so I have been having problems when using the keyboard. At times it would create random letters/numbers when I typed. The Cap lock might come on for no reason. then numbers would randomly scroll. Then the problem would stop for a while. I did a virus check with AVG - all clear. I checked with for malware and used superantispyware - all clear. Now the situation is even worse. When I turn on I get a continuos beeping alarm and I can't get past the first Vaio black screen.

I had used Wisecare365 registry cleaner and Registry Fix in the past few weeks and realize now these programmes can do more harm than good. Could they have done this damage? The only other thing I did was uninstall Norton and installed AVG in its place some months ago.

I am not very computer literate so any advice would be appreciated. Is the computer just at the end of its lifespan? I had tried just before I got the black screen to go into System and System Restore but I didn't manage to get very far,

A:Sony Vaio Black Screen

A friend of mine discovered that it is the keyboard itself that is the problem. He got past the black screen by holding down various keys. He then plugged in in an external keyboard. This helped initially, but the problems are still reoccurring. I rememeber now that I used an anti static cleaner on the keys a while ago. Stupidly, I sprayed directly onto the keys instead of onto a cloth first. This must have caused a short circuit of some kind.

I replaced my sony vaio lcd screen because it was cracked. The backlight was working when it was cracked but when i put the new one on it didnt. if you hold a flashlight to the screen you can see it is working, but not the backlight. both the inverter and the screen are new so i dont have any idea what it could be. Could it be the lid switch? a fuse? or the plug that plugs into the lcd screen. if someone could help me out i would greatly appreciate it.

I noticed two nites ago that there was a black spot in the lower left corner of my screen, where the "start" is. I touched it, and the thing was blazing hot in the whole lower left hand corner area!

My hubby took it down to my shop and blew it out with the air compresser.

It still got hot and had the black spot.

After one full day of that, I turned it on this morning and it has been okay.

The fan didn't seem to be running yesterday, but is this morning.

I don't really see how the fan would cool the outside of the screen, though, one way or the other.

Any thoughts?

Edited to add Model: Vaio VGN-SR29XN
My Sony Vaio is about 4 years old, running Windows Vista Business, and Office 2010. It usually lives on a side table, but when I want to use it I move it to the arm of the couch. Recently about 4 times, when I move it, the screen just freezes, and stays locked. Mouse won't move. Ctrl Alt Del doesn't work. When I force it off with the power button, and select "restart normally", it works fine.
I'm worried that some day it just won't restart.
I would appreciate some suggestions as to cause, and what I can do to prevent it freezing please ?
Thanks, Niall

Hi Guys,
I have a Sony Vaio laptop model VGN-FJ1Z/W with a 14.1inch widescreen bought from PC World in January this year. The problem is several fuzzy white lines running across the top of the screen. The first is about an inch down from the top and is quite a distinct line with a sort of fuzzy white running upwards about 1cm. The second line is approx 1cm below this and is again a distinct white line. I have only noticed this because the screen background has been white up until I changed it the other day. If I set the desktop to none and change the colour to black or red for example I can't see the lines for some reason. If I choose brown or grey as a background colour they show up quite a lot. Do you think the screen on this laptop is faulty? As I say it only becomes noticeable when the background is showing particular colours so I can live with it but I'm concerned that it may be a problem which needs sorting whilst the computer is under warranty. If I open a window minimised with the same colour of background, say grey, and click on this window and move it up towards the top of the screen the lines do not disappear behind it but show in front of it if that is any help.

I have a Sony VAIO E series laptop with Windows 10 installed. Yesterday, while using the laptop, it hung and I waited for a while for it to get back to normal. When it didn't, I pressed the power off button and it shut down. When I restarted the laptop, the power LED lit up and after 20-30 seconds the fan started working as well. But the screen was blank. Just like when the laptop is turned off. I've tried every troubleshooting tips.
Could anyone please tell me what can be the issue ?? Is the motherboard dead ?

A:Sony VAIO blank screen.

it maybe the motherboard , graphics card, screen

Remove the power adapter
Remove the Battery
Now hold the on/off button , on, for 60 seconds

now put the power adapter back on (not the battery yet) - will it start up and work now

If so
put the battery in
and restart as normal
