dell laptop connect to monitor extended issue

Q: dell laptop connect to monitor extended issue

I have a dell laptop that is connect to a samsung monitor. the dell laptop is like 14 15 inch and the samsung monitor is like 25 26 inch. I wanted to use extend display on the laptop. the laptop is set as primary and the monitor is secondary. I am able to drag stuff to the monitor however when i enlarge some boxes like IE explorer, it does not fit to the screen and is like over the edge abit. How do i make it so that it can fit to screen.

I have try figuring and adjusting the resolution but still it does not fix to the screen exactly.

Beforehand the user has a hp laptop and larger in screen like 21 22inch and connected to the samsung monitor. Someone help to adjust it to fit it to the samsung screen. so it mean the samsung monitor does not have problem. I do not know how he manage to fix it. Anyone experience this issue before?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys

I have read quite a few forums to try and find an answer to my problem, however everything I have found and tried has not worked. Please read bellow and see of anything pops into mind to help.

Problems:
I am extending my display to a Dell monitor and the screen wont fit the monitor exactly. I have tried all possible resolution options as well as going into the Advanced settings for the monitors display settings with no success (changing the monitors screen refresh rate - only the 24Hz option works). I have not tried to alter any graphic card options etc and took a screen shot of what I think the graphics card is, just in case it helps.
Another issue which I have noticed is that when moving my mouse left and right from display to display, it gets "caught" at the bottom of the screen but not at the top. I know its from the positions that are set for display 1 and 2 in the display options menu - as in the screen shot. Is there anyway to overcome this? Because when I move the screens around it still gets caught because of the different sizes of the screens.

I have attached an image with a few screen shots of all settings I have been playing with as well as a picture of the problem (Screen2).

Components:
I am using a Acer TravelMate 5740G laptop and have attached image (Screen1) showing the graphics properties.
Dell 26" monitor

Could someone please assist in getting my screen to fit the monitor exactly?

Hello everyone out there, I'm experiencing a lot of trouble and difficulties with my laptop. I recently got a virus and the past few days I've been doing whatever I could to fix it and so I finally uninstalled the virus, but now, When I want to go on websites like on internet explorer or google chrome, it says different error messages. Mostly it says 'windows found a problem that cannot be repaired automatically, contact your internet service provider or network administrator for help or click here for information about things you can try to help resolve the problem'. My laptop says wifi is connected and it shows that it is, but I really don't know what's going on or what the problem is. I've tried everything! Can someone, anyone PLEASE help me out here!!!

I've just upgraded to W7 with few problems. However I use an extended desktop with 2 monitors (Viewsonic - digital and Dell 2001FP - analog). The Dell is the second monitor and the desktop extended on it ok with Vista. However with W7 only part of the desktop is visible, the rest is off the screen. Is this an issue with the Dell driver? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi,

Today I plugged an hdmi to vga cable into my Win 8 sony vaio, and I plugged the other VGA side of the cable into an acee 22" monitor. I then chose from the right hand windows 8 panel to "extend to monitor", the laptop screen went black, the monitor screen remained without signal (extended screen did not show on monitor) and now the laptop screen is black.

I am now stuck and both laptop and monitor screen not working.

I tried unplugging cable, pressing fn and all the f1 to f12, shift, windows button but nothing is working.

I pressed off button then switched laptop back on and it showed the sony vaio logo on laptop then the screen went black again.

Please tell me how could I return my laptop screen to work and stop the screen extension which is not working and which I am sure is the case.

Any buttons on keyboard to click at all?

Any solution is highly appreciated.

Thank you

It's stuck in an extended screen it seems, boot into Safe Mode while you have all external monitors unplugged - Your Display is probably set to a resolution too high for both the external monitor and the laptop monitor, so you'll have to try "Boot to VGA mode" and I don't know where that is in the Windows 8 Boot GUI, if it is even in there at all.
Here is is- There are several ways to get to that from the Boot screen:

I'm having problems with my wallpapers intended to span the length of both monitors....

My main display is on the right instead of the left and when i use a wallpaper that spans both screens it starts on the main display on the right and spans to the left screen instead of starting on the left screen and spanning to the right. Is there anyway to fix this other than moving the 2 monitors physically or changing my main display to the left monitor?

It works fine if i make the left monitor my main display but i use the right monitor as my main because it has internal speakers and if it doesn't get any signal it goes to sleep muting the sound.

I have acquired an HP Envy M6 laptop (AMD version with ATI graphics) and I want to do a factory reset on it so I can customize it for me. Problem is the screen is broke so I have been using it with an external monitor until I can order the replacement screen. Problem I am running into is the extended monitor will not show BIOS screens or any of the recovery screens because no signal is directed to the extended monitor until it gets into windows 8. Is there a way to make it show boot screens or any screens it cycles through prior to getting into windows?

The broke screen illuminates and occasionally shows some of the desktop at the very bottom but I cannot see anything that I need to. I would like to go ahead and reset it so when I get the new screen it will be ready to go. Thanks in advance.

As simple as using VGA out to VGA monitor one  and HDMI > Display port converter to monitor two.

Or even better, is there a device I can always keep both externals plugged into then when I arrive only have to plug ONE cable into the laptop?
Thoughts? Thanks!

I'm wondering if there are any recommended external extended runtime battery options for the 7710 series laptop.
I see dell now has some external add-on battery options for longer runtime for the 5510 -- the Dell Power Companion 1800 mAh
accessories.us.dell.com/.../ProductDetail.aspx
but I assume it must not have sufficient output for the 17" 7700 series.
Is there an equivalent product for the 7700 series? I'd like to add 12 hours of runtime for a location that may have a few power outages a year and wouldn't mind buying a couple or few of these devices if there were one which was compatible.

Hi everyone,
I have a new hardware:

Dell XPS13 (9360) with Thunderbolt 3
Dell U3417W 34" monitor  (3440x1440 px)

I have prepared everything on my table because I had no idea that new Dell only has Thunderbolt 3 and no mini display port. I was kind of surprised (in a bad way) that I will need another reduction.
The problem is that I can only input display port, mini display port and HDMI into the new Dell U3417W monitor. I am not sure how much resolution I can squeeze from HDMI, so what is left are those display ports.
Should I buy USB-C -> Display port cable like for e.g. Startech USB Type-C to Displayport cable, 1m (CDP2DPMM1MB) which could possibly do the job? Or perhaps even some Thunderbolt 3 cable?
I need to have 3440x1440 px @ 60 Hz where some of those cables support only @30 Hz and they do not explicitly state that 3440x1440px resolution is supported.
I would rather avoid those bugged Dell docking stations where the whole internet (e.g. Amazon) is snowed by users complaints.
Thanks in advance for any help!

My home desktop is connected to a wireless router through AT&T U-verse and it's broadcasting just fine. I can see the name and everything when I try and connect on my laptop but there is always an error that brings me to a troubleshooting screen. I've made sure the password is correct by going to Start-Run, IPCONFIG and then typing my IP address into the address bar in my browser. I dont know what else I can do, I feel like I've tried everything! Help please.

A:Laptop (Win7 Dell Inspiron 1525) won't connect to desktop (XP Dell) wireless router

Sometimes, you need to replace the router.
Sometimes, you can call your service provider and ask them to take a look on line to see if the subscription needs to be refreshed.
But often, all that is needed (despite the fact that it is a lot of work) is to uninstall your existing system, then reboot, and reinstall everything.
You might also find success by looking at your device manager in Windows to see if you have any grey, red, or yellow flags by any related device. That may show you have a permanent hardware failure if you cannot restore it, then you are off to the store or your provider for a new cable modem or router.

My old dell laptop L502x is a bit quirky and caused me to buy a desktop, however, i think it is still saveable. when i have it display to an external monitor via hdmi, it works 100% with no problems. however, when i use the monitor that is physically attached to the laptop, i will get a " A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor" BSOD. from what i've gathered over numerous crashes, i believe its a problem with the integrated graphics in the processor, since they are not used when outputting via hdmi. i could be wrong tho, any help is greatly appreciated.

I want to switch between 2 laptops onto a DELL E178FPc Monitor (which is VGA input only).  The Laptops are a DELL E6410 -VGA out only, running Win7    and  a DELL Inspiron 5000 series machine -HDMI output, running Win10.
I have tried to achieve this using a KVM switch (the ATEN CS22U, non-powered). It claims to be Win7 compliant.
When I connect it to the E6410's VGA port and then in to the Monitor it says 'no signal detected'. Subsequent research would suggest that even if I were to somehow get a display through the KVM switch it will be lost as soon as you switch to the other laptop (!).
I have come to believe through research on the web that the E6410 Laptop will only work with a VGA monitor being directly connected to its port, or an alternative (powered) KVM Switch with so called Active-DDC (whatever that is!) may also work.
Needless to say I have exhausted my tech knowledge on this one.
Can anyone offer further advice or recommend a solution?
Ed.

Hi - I currently have a Dell OptiPlexÖ GX270 to which I would like to connect an HP monitor. The monitor has a VGA cable, a DVI cable and an audio cable (and obviously a power cable). The Dell has VGA input, and, as far as I can tell not DVI. Do I need to be able to connect DVI in order to use this monitor? Also, monitor has built-in speakers. I am assuming the audio cable for that would go into the same input that I currently use for my free standing speakers. The monitor has that Bright View Technology which looks quite nice. My system has 512 ram, Intel Pentium 2.4 GHz processor and plenty of hard disk space. Bottom line - is this pc up to the task of this monitor connection? Even though this Dell is sort of old, it still runs fine and I see no need to dump it at this juncture - especially since any new pc's only come with Win7. I like xp. Anyway, any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

We got two new Dell XPS 13 for users and there does not seem to be any video out ports like on previous models.  This runs Windows 10 Professional and has an internal screen resolution of 1920x1080.  Looks like there is 2 USB 3.0 super speed ports and possibly a (thunderbolt)??? port?
I've heard of USB-C so I'm not sure if this one port on the left side is that, or if its thunderbolt.  I googled thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and in all the images I find it always shows a mini display port on one end despite the descriptions saying thunderbolt.

So whats the cheapest way to get HDMI out on this laptop?

A:How do I connect an external monitor to a new Dell XPS 13?

Hi,
The Thunderbolt( USB Type C port) on the Left Hand side deals with the video output on the system. You will need to purchase a USB Type C to HDMI adapter to display video.
The cable is available on the Dell website here

I have a dell laptop that has 1920x1080 resolution. However, i connect it to an external monitor that has 1920x1200 resolution. Basically almost everything i do is on my external monitor which acts as my main primary screen. Thus i do sometimes open some windows or drag a window or so to the other screen like youtube etc to the laptop screen which is the secondary monitor.

My issue at the moment is everything is way too big on the laptop screen. I want to have 1920x1080 resolution but its way too big. I googled what is my resolution on it and it shows 1536 x 864. Can someone tell me how to change this to 1920x1080? I googled what is my resolution on the external monitor and it does show 1920x1200 which is correct.

My external monitor which is my main monitor is fine at the moment with the 1920x1200. Its windows 10 but im assuming this should be very similar to windows 7 to fix this issue?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.  Recently, I bought a Dell Ultrasharp monitor U2412M to attach to my laptop to have an ergonomic home office.   My knowledge of computers/hardware is pretty... rudimentary.
24"1920 x 1200Nice adjustable stand1x DVI-D port, 1x display port, 1x VGA port, 1x USB 2.0 upstream port, 4x USB downstream ports
I use my computer for writing documents, internet surfing, and rarely for watching tv.  Eventually, I will buy a lighter and newer laptop, but probably not for a year or two.
I think I bought the wrong monitor....  I was hoping to buy something to use now, that will last, and that will work with any future laptop I buy.
My monitor just arrived.  I connected it to my laptop with the VGA cable (my laptop doesn't have DPI or HDMI input).  It worked, but the picture didn't look.... very good.
It is my understanding that VGA connections are the worst quality.  Can I use an ?adapter to connect to the VGA cable to access the DVI-D port on the monitor?  Or is this the best I can get?  I'm not even sure what ?video cards are, or whether I need one of these.
I also looked up the specs on my old laptop and it says the specs of my laptop screen are
1366 x 768 pixel
So is this the limit of what an attached monitor can be?

Any input appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi - I have recently acquired a new work computer with 1 widescreen Dell monitor (Dell E228WFPc 1680 x 1050, Monitor A) and my older 4:3 monitor (E178FPc 1024 x 768, Monitor B). The graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 620. I cannot get them both working at the same time on an extended display.

One is plugged into (excuse my slightly less-than-technical language here!) the 'main' monitor port and one has a VGA-DVI adapter.

When either monitor A or B is plugged into the main port without the other plugged in, they work fine.

When monitor A, the widescreen, is plugged into the main port and B is plugged in via the adapter, A works perfectly and the PC detects monitor B (if I set it to extend displays, programs open in that screen but I cannot see anything - the screen is completely black).

When B is plugged into the main port and A is on the adapter, B boots up normally until the point where I would usually see my Windows log in, when it goes black and I can only see and move the cursor.

I thought it would be a case of adjusting the screen res down so that they weren't so drastically different - in fact I'm still sure that would help but I can't get the smaller monitor B to let me do so and it doesn't seem to make a difference when widescreen monitor A is plugged into the main port with B in the other?

A:Extended display monitor problems with one widescreen and one 4:3 monitor?

That is usually normal. Try dragging a window over to the other monitor and see if it works.

Hi:
I have connected the monitor to the laptop with an HDMI cable and the monitor says there is no signal in the HDMI port. Then (a couple of minutes later), the signal is received and the monitor shows what I have in my laptop. However, this is intermittent and the signal is lost and restored. This happens sometimes when I’m opening a new program or the program I’m using starts to use more resources from the processor. I already have installed the monitor driver for Dell P2815Q. I’m using Windows 10.
I’m thinking that maybe I will have better luck with a USB 3 cable. What do you recommend?
 Thanks,
 Javier

A:How do I connect an Inspiron 7737 to a Dell P2815Q monitor (with USB?)

USB would mean DisplayLink, which has a number of drawbacks compared to attaching the display to an output directly controlled by the GPU, such as possible compression artifacts and/or motion judder during times of high CPU and/or USB utilization, or simply when large portions of the display area are changing simultaneously.  Additionally, due to a Windows limitation, your GeForce dPGU would not be able to accelerate any content displayed on a DisplayLink-attached display. But about your specific issue, given that you're trying to run 4K, have you tried just swapping the HDMI cable?  Not all HDMI cables are equal when it comes to pushing very high bandwidth.  That said, I don't know if that system's HDMI port will even do 4K @ 60 Hz, since that requires HDMI 2.0 and most Dell systems I've seen have only had HDMI 1.4, which would limit you to 4K @ 30 Hz or 1440p @ 60 Hz.

The LCD's crap out after several years, they can be fixed but the fix's cost more than they are worth. If its a CRT I would replace it anyway - really obsolete and not worth fixing either.

Has anyone with an xps 13 2-in-1 ever tried to use the connect app of microsoft to cast some content from another device to this machine?
Mine says "This device doesn't support receiving Miracast..."
Anyone an idea how to solve it or circumvent this problem with software? almost any old PC is capable of receiving Miracast, why not this new machine?

Thx.

A:Dell XPS 13 9365 2 in 1 is there an issue with win 10 connect app?

I just connected an Inspiron 15 to my 9365.
I set the 9365 to allow connections on secure networks.  No PIN was required and it was plugged in.   I then select project from the Inspiron 15 and selected the 9365.  It worked fine for my two systems.
This is with the Creator's Fall upgrade on both systems.

Hi, I have an issue with my Dell 9560 monitor, there's seem to be a gap on the right side of the monitor, between the screen and the bezel, is that normal?
I've attached the image as a reference.
Thank you.

The name of my notebook is HP Pavilion 12-n231TU .I want to use an external Monitor with my laptop .Is it Pssible? How do I do it ? #Reason- Its only 14.5 inch display and can not thrill me enough when playing gamees with this little monitor .. Waiting for reply

A:Can I connect a monitor and use that monitor as my laptop's ...

Hi, Yes, you can. The following link shows specs of your machine:     http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04168240 It has 1 HDMI port, this is very handy. There are many monitors around which have HDMI port. 21" to 24" monitors are very popupar. Just go out and buy one (please check to see HDMI cable is included otherwise you have to buy a cable). Now, you can connect your laptop to the monitor, then power them up. Normally they will connect automatically, otherwsie hit F4. Regards.

Dear All,
I am using E177FPb monitor quite long time. Since i have a satellite receiver which has HDMI output. Planned to connect the same to my monitor. Purchased HDMI to VGA converter, connected, monitor giving error message " CANNOT DISPLAY THIS VIDEO MODE Optimum resolution 1280 x 1024 60Hz". Tried with other LG LED monitor, working fine. Tried the below steps as per advice from few sites. No luck.
1. Tried to change the setting of monitor through laptop, no luck.

FYI
My Sat receiver giving output format as 720P.
Hope you understand my concern, expecting the solution.

Best Regards
K.Neelakandan.

A:Dell monitor E177FPb - Could not connect with Satellite Receiver through HDMI to VGA converter

720P is 1280 x 720  75Hz your monitor does not support that.  1280 x 1024 60hz interlaced is max.  This monitor is over 10 years old.

Help!!! My Dell E156FP LCD Monitor has been acting strange. Whenever my computer tells my monitor to turn off or stops sending a signal for standby or after 20mins or even after shutdown, my monitor starts showing a "slideshow" of colors. During this "slideshow" the monitor will not turn off unless unplugged. My warranty is up so that makes my life a heck of a lot harder too. Thanks for listening.

Please help!! When booting up I notice my normal gray/black dell microsoft screen is pychedelic red with pink Dell letters. Also, the normal quality of color and for lack of better words clarity are way off. Could it be the hardware of the screen itself or the software?

Can you tell I am not an expert? Hope I am somewhat easy to understand!

Thanks in advance.

I have a Dell studio 1558 laptop, upgraded to 8GB and a 500gb ssd drive. I connected one 24" monitor via VGA, one 24" using VGA to USB adapter, and one mobile monitor using USB. I tried to connect a 4th monitor using the HDMI port, but when I connect it, the monitor on the VGA port turns off and vice versa. Are the HDMI and VGA ports somehow interconnected where you can only use one?

Hi, I have a new laptop (HP-Windows 10) without a VGA connector. I've connected my laptop successfully to my Coby TV/Monitor using an HDMI connection however the edges appear off the screen-so I can't see the tool bar on top or the tray on the bottom or the print pop-up screen on the side of websites. Looking at the manual the only way I can adjust the screen is if I use a VGA connection. I tried using an adaptor that has a VGA connector on one end and and HDMI on the other but the Coby monitor didn't recognize it. Is there something I can do to adjust the screen size on my Coby tv/monitor? I lost the remote for the Coby so I have to use the controls on the side of the TV. Re model # TFTV2425 THANKS!

A:Laptop and monitor don't connect

You have to select the external monitor by hitting Fn+F4 or something like that
