T450S won't boot, power button flashes 3 times

Q: T450S won't boot, power button flashes 3 times

I have a T450S that is a few months old. It has worked fine until just the other day when it would not turn on. When I push the power button, the green LED flashes three times. Then, the LEDs on the F1, F4, and Fn keys come on for several seconds and go off. Here's what I've tried:- Charging for an extended period.- Removing the battery for an extended period.- Removing the battery and holding the power button for 60 seconds.- Pressing the button in the emergency reset hole. Nothing has made any difference. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Trying to fix my cousins Pavilion 15-p066us. The small led next to the power plug flashes 3 white flashes when you press the power button. No other lights flash. Behaves the same using only the battery or plugged in with/without battery installed.I tried removing the battery and power cord and holding the power button for 1 minute, then plugging the cord in. Behaves the same.I find documentation regarding the error code for a memory issue for three flashes, but that is for the caps/num lock LEDs. Those don't light up on this machine.Does anyone have any idea what the three white flashes mean?

This just happened to me again this morning. The third time in 3 months. I open my laptop and the three lights on the keboard (FN/Mute/Microphone) are all on. The power button does nothing at all. Suggested solutions that I've tried:- Insert a paperclip into the small hole on the bottom of the laptop and press the button with it.- Press the power button 11 times, then hold for 30 seconds on the 12th time. The only solution that has worked for me is to open up the laptop and disconnect/reconnect the internal battery. I now cannot trust that my ThinkPad will turn on when I need it. This could be bad for business if it happens at an inopportune time. I need a solution. Any ideas?

A:T450s won't wake. Power button does nothing. Only solution is to disconnect internal battery.

I am not confident of these suggestions, but would suggest that you try the following:: confirm you have the latest available BIOS, drivers, and operating system,Reset BIOS to the factory defaults and then make any needed adjustments to the BIOS settings.

I.I have an lenovo y50-70 that i like very much. The only problem i have with it, is that if i play forex gta v, or doing other things that makes the computer work hard, the power button starts to flash and it is stopping to charge. It happens all from about 5min to 30min after i have started to play. If i pull the plug and put in in again, it does not flash anymore, and i can play for a while before it starts to do that again. Noticed that the plug i put into the computer to charge it, gets very warm. This problem does not come if i just use the computer for surfing on the internet, watching netflix or similar, only if the computer has to work hard. Is it the charger that can't deliver enough power to charge it or what could my problem be?What does the power button flash mean? Thanks!

A:Laptop power button flashes orange?

The flashing orange light usually means that the battery is being charged from the mains-powered charger unit.
When battery is charged fully that light should change to green

Laptop makes may differ though .. for example when my laptop is charging the orange light is on, but it does not flash .. it stays on orange until it is fully charged, then changes to green

I normally go to bed and leave my laptop running with a YouTube playlist playing for background noise to help me sleep. I've been doing this for about three years. I usually wake up the laptop in sleep mode or still playing the playlist but with the screen black. Today, though, I woke up to the laptop totally powered down and unresponsive. I checked the power cord and it was plugged in on both ends, but it acted like it was basically dead. Any push of the power button causes the button to turn on like normal, but it turns off after just a few seconds. Trying this several times, occasionally the keyboard lights will flash, too, but they die after just a second. The whole thing looks like it's booting up, but can't even turn the screen on at all. I'll link to a YouTube video showing the problem. A few months back, I was having harddrive problems from what I could tell, but fixed it. I haven't had any other problems other than that. Link: https://youtu.be/v3y7q2S0GS8 Could the battery have finally crapped out or something? I tried the whole battery removal and hold power button thing a few times with no results.

Hello, I've been having trouble with an old Gateway desktop for some time now. About a month ago, I had installed a graphics card to the computer and the computer had recognized it, but never used it(it always said second priority). Whenever I disabled the onboard graphics, the screen would go blank and say "No Signal". So I went into the BIOS settings and changed the graphics to the PCI-Express slot as the 1st selection, and when I did that, the monitor didn't have any signal, so I had to reset the CMOS. The graphics card still did not work, but after a few days or a week, when I had turned it on again, the computer would not turn on at all. The power button would just keep flashing. I looked up why this could be online and it kept saying things about the Mobo, RAM, PSU, CPU, and the CMOS. I tried removing the RAM and cleaning the fans on the inside, but it still didn't turn on. I even tried plugging the desktop directly to the wall outlet and the power button still flashed. Then I got an adapter for the graphics card so I could connect the display to the card and not the Mobo, and I got the same result. After that, I had taken a break from it for a little while.

It wasn't until yesterday when the display came back and the computer actually turned on. Though, the first I turned it on, I got a BSOD saying "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and when I turned it back on, the Windows System Recovery had fixed it (I'm hoping) and I could... Read more

Get your Service Tag number (on the system and the paperwork) and type it in here to access all the stuff on your PC: http://support.dell.com/support/top...t_central?~ck=ln&c=us&cs=04&l=en&lnki=0&s=bsd
Look in the FAQ's or the manuals for how to reset the CMOS and that will probably fix it.
Your system has gotten stuck in a power save state.
The E510's need a BIOS upgrade (under downloads) to fixe several problems. Get it too

Try and reseat the RAMs. Or try to use 1 RAM to check which RAM is having faulty.

After disconnecting and reconnecting my HP Pavilion T490 desktop to the mains, it refuses to start. The PSU makes a ticking / clicking noise and the LED on the back flashes / blinks. A few months back, after returning from vacation, I had the exact same issue, but it worked after a few tries.

I worked through the HP Power Supply troubleshooting doc and talked to an online help employee. The PSU fails to work as soon as I plug in the 20 pin ATX-connector in the motherboard (both with and without all PCI/AGP cards and memory modules). If I hardwire ATX pin 14 to a ground pin, the HD and CD/DVD's spin up.

After all these test, I'm still not sure what the problem is. The PSU or the motherboard. The machine still falls under warranty, but, if it is the PSU, I'll replace it myself with a higher quality higher wattage model (currently is a Bestec 250W ATX). If it is the motherboard, I'll use the warranty (aren't any shops here which sell microATX socket 478 SATA/Firewire boards anyway).

Anyone got a clue what the issue is here? I've googled arround; found similiar problems, but never definate answers as to what is the problem.

A:HP Pavilion: Power Supply ticks / LED on the back flashes; no boot

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

As far as I can tell, that sounds more like a mobo problem than a psu problem. In any case, as you system is still under warranty, I suggest you let HP take care of it.

My system specs are : a64 venice @ 2.53ghz(230x11) 1.475v, muskin redline 2x1gig @ 460mhz 3-3-2-8/2T, a 6800u, and an antec 480w true power psu. this problem has just arisen yesterday - i pushed the power button, all the fans turned on, and the mobo beeped(not the POST beep, but the turning-on-the-power beep), and that was it. nothing else. when i pressed teh reset button, everything booted perfectly. Asus C.P.R. went into affect and reset the bios, and this only happens when the system won't post from ocing it to high, but it has been at 2.5 for the last month or so, and has been rock solid! Cpu temps never go past 42c. i think that this might be a problem with the video card not booting up. My old system an axp 3200+ on an asus nforce2 ultra 400 and an fx5700 has the same problem, but less common. What can this be? cpu voltage being set to low? maybe setting it to 1.5 wil help? the vdimm was set to 2.7v yesterday, but it just crashed out of the blue, so i set it to 2.6 and everything was fine. windows debugger said that it crashed on ntfs.sys, but that doesn't really mean anything. what can this be? please help.

edit: it passed 3hrs prime95 and 2 passes of memtest86, so i don't think this is cpu or memory.

Try another PSU maybe yours is faulty. You said after you pressed the reset button it worked, this could be because the first time you power on computer the PSU isn't Stabilising the voltages quick enough but when you restart it has had time to Stabilise the voltages.

do you mean a single beep, or multiple beeps? These codes will identify the issue.

Specifically with Dell desktops, you can refer to these beep codes:
1 beep: BIOS ROM corruption or failure
2 beeps: RAM not detected
3 beeps: Motherboard failure
4 beeps: RAM failure
5 beeps: CMOS Battery failure
6 beeps: GPU failure
7 beeps: Bad CPU

I have recently gained a Tecra A7 but without a battery or power adapter.
I purchased a power adapter (15V, 6.0A) and plugged it in.

Whenever I try to power the laptop, the only response I receive is the battery light flashing orange 11-12 times.
Note: I do not have any battery plugged in.

Could this be the problem?

Does anyone know a solution for this problem I'm experiencing?

Kind Regards,

A:Tecra A7 - battery light flashes amber many times

If there is no hardware problems notebook must run with AC power supply only and without battery.
Of course we don?t know if this notebook is defective or not but fact is that you use, according Tecra A7 specification, right AC adapter.
If you can see flashing power led only it can be that power supply electronic is defective and need to be checked by authorized service provider.

Sorry but on this virtual way it is not easy to say more than that.

Here is what hp official page says: The Diagnostic LED blinks red 8 times and the system beeps 8 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause follows:This indicates an invalid system ROM based on bad checksum and entering Failsafe (Boot Block) recovery mode.To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:1) Re-flash the system ROM. (Failsafe Boot Block ROM Recovery)2) Replace the system board. Here is the photo showing to witch connector I used for the SSD. I have marked the correct pins and the wrong pins that I connected on the first try with red arrows: Do you think I am doomed to get a new motherboard? Could my mistake have fried the whole motherboard?..

I can't find the answer to this anywhere and I am not sure this is the right forum..but..I have a Toshiba notebook that has been giving me problems and worsening.

I push the power button and it lights and nothing happens...black screen. I push it again to turn it off, then I am constantly pushing the button on and off. After about ten minutes it will go right into the normal boot mode. Not sure why it is taking longer to get into this normal boot mode I have windows 7 and I have a Toshiba Satelite T 115-S1100. I would be so grateful for any help. Thanks.
