Solved: Transfer address book from web mail account to Thunderbird?

Q: Solved: Transfer address book from web mail account to Thunderbird?

I have a relative who has an e-mail account with Comcast. She has been accessing the account from her Internet Explorer browser. I had no trouble installing and setting up her Comcast account in Thunderbird. But I am not aware of any simple means of importing the address book that she has set up to access from the browser into the Thunderbird address book. Is it possible to import the address book somehow, or is she just going to have to hand enter the data?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I preordered Windows 7 Home Premium and can't wait to upgrade. My question is if I can somehow save my address book from Windows Mail and import it to Windows Live Mail.

I would sure appreciate any and all assistance regarding this request.

A:Can I Transfer my Windows Mail Address Book??

I researched Windows Live Mail and you indeed can import both email addresses and even email from another email client (Windows Mail, Outlook Express, Windows Outlook, etc....)

This is done at least for me by going into Windows Live (I already had on the computer for hotmail) but I believe can be set up when first installing.

Thanks for those who took time to look at my question.

I know there is built in stuff to do this, but what people don't realise is that exporting an address book to csv etc does NOT include any contact GROUPS - the folders that can hold up to 50 email addresses......

I have 50+ GROUPS I use for business purposes

My old address book (3000 emails) on XP is attached to Outlook, so can't be exported as a WAB file (officially). I am now using Vista premium and Windows Mail.

If anyone has an idea on a macro or script to do this, I would be glad to hear

Spam emails were being sent to the contacts in my Yahoo contact list from my email account. I think this was done by me mistakenly clicked a link ?msn.msnbc.com-?/jobs? from my friend's email as all the spam emails sent by my yahoo account had similar link.

My PC does have the most updated version of Norton Premier edition and the scan returned with no virus detected. Your assistance in providing the instructions to diagnostic and remove this virus or malware would be greatly appreciated.

A:Hacked Yahoo Mail account address book

On 12/20, I received an email from a co-worker with my first name in the subject, and the body that read, "hi Joe check this out http:// msn . msnbc . msnbc-news5 . com / jobs /" (spaced added to prevent recurrence). I had not heard from this person in a long time, so it was unusual to get this from them out of the blue. Second clue was the brevity of the email. I suspected it was spam so I inspected the link and mistakenly identified the domain as msnbc, a legitimate website. However, the real domain is the first string before the top level domain, ".com", and that is "msnbc-news5". Anyone could have registered that. I hovered my mouse over the link and checked the actual link in the browser frame to make sure that the link wasn't masked, and it was not. I then thought, I have the latest Chrome and McAfee SiteAdvisor, if there is malicious software, they will protect me, and I clicked the link. The destination website was a work from home scam, I thought it was not legitimate after all and immediately closed that browser tab. Without my knowledge the cross site script (XSS) started running, and from this point on my browser was sending 7 emails a minute to everyone in my contact list. This went on for 30 minutes. It was possibly shutdown when Yahoo started demanding human verification on each email. Or it may have been when I started receiving Failure Notices in my inbox as the script sent emails to bad email addresses. I checked my sent fol... Read more

Thunderbird seems to have two address books, one it names Collected Addresses and another it names Personal Address Book.

I have imported my addresses from Eudora into Thunderbird and instead of importing them into Personal Address Book, it made a new address book called Address Book. Now I have three address books and there seems to be no way to integrate them. Also, when I am reading a mail and decide I want that address in my address book, it goes into Personal Address Book (which is empty), not Address Book where all my other addresses are.

There seems to be no way to move one or more addresses from one address book to another. Personal Address Book is not deletable so I thought of moving the addresses from Address Book (where all my addresses are currently) to Personal Address Book; but, it seems Thunderbird doesn't allow for this either.

I would like to be able to export these 200+ addresses from Address Book (that got made when I imported my addresses from Eudora) and import them into Personal Address Book to simplify this address book clutter.

So, does anyone have a workaround for this?

My wife is running Thunderbird 3.0 on a Dell Latitude D420, with WindowsXP Professional. She mentioned to me last night that she had received an email which showed up under the Sender column as being from my brother, and showed his full name, just like the "label" associated with his email address was reflected in the stored address book.

She thought that was a little unusual since receiving an email from my brother is about as likely as finding a Snickers bar at a Weight Watchers convention. When I looked and checked the full email address, it was not from my brother's email provider, but reflected his First and Last Name and then some unknown email domain. As you might now have already expected, the email message contained a hyperlink to some URL that my brother thought my wife "would be interested in taking a look at".

I've had very limited problems with email being compromised by viruses, and we run both AVG 9.0 and Ad-Aware regularly on both of our computers - and neither have logged any suspected problems. Clearly something is "amiss", but I'm not sure what, nor do I know what the fix might be. I'm probably completely capable of erradicating the problem, and I know that email address books are susceptible to being hijacked, it's never happened to us, and this one is unfamiliar to me, and I sure don't understand how an actual email Sender name got incorporated into what was clearly a little out-of-season phi... A few days ago I installed Thunderbird for a secondary email account. Everything so far works as advertised except the address book. I've imported my address book from Windows Live Mail (csv).

The problem is that when I open the Thunderbird address book there are no addresses. It's just a long line of tiny icons. If I double click one of these icons, a name and address apprears, so I know the information is there, I just can't see it. (see picture)

I've reinstalled Thunderbird twice and deleted the profile twice. I've clicked every button dozens of times trying to figure out what I've missed. Can't find anything in Google that mentions this problem so that tells me that it is so simple that nobody else has ever had a problem with it or it's unheard of. It looks like somthing that one click should fix, I just haven't found it yet.

Why can't I see the names in my Thunderbird address book. I need help.

Does anyone know of a good way to get my complete OE Address Book into Mozilla Thunderbird? I've tried it in the 1.0 version, and it doesn't seem to move the subfolders. I get the whole main list (I think), but the folders don't survive. I installed the 1.5 beta yesterday, and that was even worse. One folder was populated with the same name about 25 times, and there were lots of blank lines in most folders. I'm running WinXP-SP2. I would really like to convert over to Thunderbird as my default, but not as long as I can't bring my addresses completely along. The AB isn't huge, but the thought of building it from scratch is not appealing. I would appreciate any input.

My workmate sent me an e-mail and quickly learned it went to many people in her address book.

She has XP Home on a laptop and Outlook Express.

She works remotely from me and I can get more info if needed.

She reports that in the TO: box she entered the first few letters of my name and my full name popped up as it always does and she says she sent the e-mail to me as she always does and did not enter any further names or make any reference to the Address Book.

When I received the e-mail, my name was first, followed by many other names. In her Sent Messages box the TO: line shows all the other names.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

She insists that she did not do anything different than she always does.

Any chance Facebook has something to do with this?

I asked her to see if the message went to her entire addressbook or just part of it, and if only part of it, whether there is some pattern among the recipients. She'll report back in a few hours.

Obviously, we need to get to the bottom of this!

A:[SOLVED] Outlook Express--e-mail went to most of address book--

I was concerned that a worm or virus did this misdeed. The email had an attachment and I know that's how viruses are spread so I was very suspicious.

Overly suspicious.

I sat at the sending computer and studied the 'sent message'.

Only about 25% of the contacts in the addressbook were sent the message.

My workmate noted that most of these people had been active in a certain project at about the same time.

....and then I found out she had sent a :cc to herself on her home computer.

....and then we discovered that in her addressbook was a group with a name starting with the same letter as her own name......

....and.....you guessed it, in the cc: line she must have accidentally listed the group instead of her own name.....

.......she was in a hurry to get the task done......and I think we found a logical explanation for the result......

Save the file as an .ldif file to the Desktop.

Try to find the following:

X:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\youraccount.default\

(with X being the letter of your old drive, Username your Username and youraccount your Thunderbird account name)

You will find all the data here, esp. in the subfolder \Mail\Local Folders\, where your old email boxes are stored. If you have not used Thunderbird on the new install yet, just copy the old boxes to the new location. If you already have new email in your inbox or so, remember to move them first to a neutral mailbox, one that will not be overwritten.
Your address book should be the abook.mab file.

Though I didn't need it in the end, I started by making a backup of my data first using MozBackup.
