Preferred Solution: Google Chrome/microsoft security service not working

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Google Chrome/microsoft security service not working

Please do the following

Refer to the ComboFix User's Guide
Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Place ComboFix.exe on your Desktop
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with ComboFix.
You can get help on disabling your protection programs here
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
Your desktop may go blank. This is normal. It will return when ComboFix is done. ComboFix may reboot your machine. This is normal.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Ensure your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications are re-enabled.

Defends plug-in, says it makes IE more secure, not less.
Google hit back at Microsoft today, defending the security of its new Chrome Frame plug-in and claiming that the software actually makes Internet Explorer (IE) safer and more secure.
"Accessing sites using Google Chrome Frame brings Google Chrome's security features to Internet Explorer users," said a Google spokesman today. "It provides strong phishing and malware protection, absent in IE6, robust sandboxing technology [in IE6 and on Windows XP], and defenses from emerging online threats that are available in days rather than months."
Although both IE7 and IE8 include a "sandbox" defense dubbed "Protected Mode," the feature works only when the browsers are run in Vista (IE7 and IE8) or Windows 7 (IE8). Google's Chrome Frame, however, prevents malicious code from escaping the browser -- and worming its way into, say, the operating system -- on Windows XP as well.

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/bott/users-report-microsoft-security-essentials-removes-google-chrome/4006?tag=nl.e589By Ed Bott | September 30, 2011, 9:14am PDTUPDATE 2, 11:15 AM PDT: A Microsoft spokesperson provides the following response via e-mail: On September 30th, 2011, an incorrect detection for PWS:Win32/Zbot was identified and as a result, Google Chrome was inadvertently blocked and in some cases removed from customers PCs. We have already fixed the issue - we released an updated signature (1.113.672.0) at 9:57 am PDT - but approximately 3,000 customers were impacted. Affected customers should manually update Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) with the latest signatures. To do this, simply launch MSE, go to the update tab and click the Update button, and then reinstall Google Chrome. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused our customers. The response does not provide any guidance for Forefront customers who have been affected by this issue. I've also asked for clarification on the "approximately 3,000 customers" figure. If a Forefront installation covering hundreds or thousands of users is counted as a single customer, the actual number of affected PCs could be considerably higher.

Hi,I was recently infected with the Windows Repair bug and fixed (maybe its still there) it via one of the posts on the sites. So I'm thinking I might have had a couple of other infections that were dormant for a while or Malwarebytes or Symantec never noticed. After fixing that, I noticed Google Chrome stopped working. When I started googling in Firefox and IE i noticed the page would redirect. And then an the "Internet Explorer Script Error" with the URL pointing to apparent spam urls "http;//celebrity-gossip.net/ashley-tisdale..." as an example. So I updated and ran Malwarebytes AM, Symantec & Microsoft Defender to see what they would. Symantec found an bloodhound virus in an archived drive. And i cleaned whatever Malwarebytes found, forgot now since its been a 4 days.I've tried the TDDSkiller.exe and that wouldnt launch. I tried renaming it too, but nothing.I found another thread and tried cleaning with SuperAntiSpyware and Hitman.I don't remember the correct order I've ran these, but followed according to the threads, including safed mode, internet off, etc...Anyways, any help is appreciated. here is the log:.DDS (Ver_11-03-05.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Mikael at 21:35:05.37 on Thu 04/07/2011Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_24Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.2047.902 [GMT -7:00].AV: Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition *Enabled/Updated* {FB06448E-52B8-493A-90F3-E43226D3305C}.===========... Hi! I am a heavy google search user who frequently uses google to: define ___, calculate equations etc.
But recently my google search results is changed to:

The top bar still appears perfectly normal when I am not in the search result page:

If it is related, bing has problem as well - it goes black screen:

The characteristics are:
One page itself:
- Words appear bigger
- It seems like I've log out but I am actually still logged in
- Google tips and tricks such as define, tilt etc all are not working
- Clicking "more" and "search tools" refresh the page and does nothing.
- In other places such as email, youtube, the functionality remains completely normal and unaffected
- I do not think the problem is related to the external internet settings as other devices are able to access these functions/websites without any problem.
- I have no problem accessing any other webpages.
Solutions tried and still not working:
- Completely reset google chrome's setting
- Reinstalling google chrome
- Resetting internet explorer setting
- Resetting computer's ip setting through cmd- netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
- Full scan with avast antivirus.
Any other ideas please? Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated as these tips and tricks are a truly useful function for me.

I too have the exact same problem. i have tried hard for a month+ on 100s of sites with no avail. this probably is some super smart form of malware/virus which changes your IE's lan proxy settings to "", this seems to affect chome and IE while firefox looks ok. the only "visible" difference is with the google main page as you described you'll also notice that at the bottom of the page, the number of page results are limited to 10 and no more, you just cant see more results than that. I couldnt find any any solid fix to this (not even complete reformat) The only temporary solution(till next reboot) seems to be to go to internet options in IE - connections tab - deselect that proxy setting and select automatically detect settings though i personally use hola better internet extension which seems to fix the problem till its kept on. I want this dreaded issue to get some attention so that am actual solution is found :/

Have you tried the repair for Windows? If not, you can go to following SkyDrive to load the registry and import it to check the result.
Before importing it, please back up the following registry key first. Just find the key and right click it, choose export and save to desktop.
After importing the correct registry, please go to services Windows to check if Security Center starts properly.

So, i recently upgraded from Internet Explorer to Google Chrome after a batch of virus problems that i FINALLY got removed from my computer and at the suggestion of many other people.

It worked fine for a week or two, then i noticed randomly it would decide that a website/page i was on either had too many cookies to load i'd get an "oh snap" this page isn't working because of "blah" error, (it had a little file folder with a angry face on it). usually closing the browser then opening it back up would fix the problem. Several times i'd have to go delete all the temp files/cookies etc for it to work right again.

Well tonight it started doing something even more weird, it wouldn't load anything.
Every site i tried to type up there in the http:// bar it would just forever be "searching" for the link then half of the time it would just say sorry "the page can not be displayed"

I tried going to google (my home page) typing in the site for instance "tech guys" and search, it would find a page full of websites, but when i clicked on the link (to any of the options) it would either a: pretend it was looking and just refresh the exact same search results page i was on, or be go into a forever loading process which usually resulted in it saying "the page can not be displayed." I used my phone to look up why this might be happening and people mentioned "disabling" the HTTP of which i had no id... Read more

Do we really need to "pay" for additional security from M$?

Plus, will this make Windows Update ineffective or obsolete?

I got this (new) laptop for Christmas and I don't believe I didn't set up a family account. (I'm 17) Apparently I have a family account with my moms email. I downloaded Google Chrome and now it's saying I need to ask (to my moms email) permission to use
the Google Chrome app. We went to her email and it brought us to a page that said 'manage preference's' for my account. When we clicked on that, all that would come up would ask if I would allow adults in the family to help check the health and safety of my
device. So hw do I allow my laptop to let me use Google Chrome? Is there a setting in Microsoft to let me that I haven't found?

I have had problems with Edge opening my Facebook etc very slowly. I even downloaded Firefox to see if it was faster. I prefer Chrome. It is much faster than Edge or Firefox. However, there is something weird happening. When I start my computer and tell Cortana "Facebook log in" it opens up with Chrome and some other pages but some pages open with Edge. Now I know that Outlook, my Hotmail, is a Microsoft product so I wasn't surprised that it opens with Edge but some other pages open with Edge and some with Chrome. Am I missing something. I went to Settings and looked where it says Browsers and it says that Chrome is my default. I gave Edge a 4 month chance. I had Chrome set as my default and Microsoft sent down a large update, it set Edge as my default. I got tired of the slow speed in opening my web pages, Facebook, etc. I only play one game in Facebook and Edge caused it to be so slow when playing it. I reset Chrome as my default and now the game is way faster. Getting to the web page is not the problem, using it once you log in is. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This Antivirus Plugin Makes You LESS Secure

AVG has been a trusted name in anti-malware and online security software for decades; over 200 million people have installed the free AVG Antivirus software. But in the last weeks of 2015, it was revealed that one of AVG?s products (apparently deliberately) bypasses critical security components of the Google Chrome browser for no better reason than to promote AVG.
The product is a Chrome extension called ?AVG Web Tuneup.? The name itself is misleading; the extension doesn?t ?tune up? anything, it just checks URLs against a reputation database and blocks connections to known rogue sites. In any case, when AVG Antivirus is installed it urges the user to let it install Web Tuneup as well. About 9 million Chrome users have done so.

The problem is that AVG doesn?t follow the extension installation process dictated by Google?s developers policy. Google researcher Tavis Ormandy described what happens this way, in a message he posted to a Google security researchers forum.
"This extension adds numerous JavaScript API's to Chrome, apparently so that they can hijack search settings and the new tab page. The installation process is quite complicated so that they can bypass the chrome malware checks, which specifically tries to stop abuse of the extension API. Anyway, many of the API's are broken."
Ormandy provided an example of code that could steal auth... Read more

I clicked the fake window to drag it out of the way so I could see the fake scan going on behind it, and it moved a little bit and downloaded the virus automatically. Luckily, Chrome is a little smarter then the hackers.

Doubles IE8's potential security problems, cripples privacy mode, argues exec.
Microsoft today warned Internet Explorer (IE) users that they could double their security woes if they installed and used Google Chrome Frame, the plug-in that provides better JavaScript performance and adds support for HTML 5 to Microsoft's browser.
"It's not necessarily that plug-ins aren't or can't be secure, but that running a browser within a browser doubles the potential attack surface in a way that we don't see is particularly helpful," said Amy Bazdukas, Microsoft's general manager for IE.

I have Google Chrome 49 on Windows Vista. I also have Webroot Antivirus . Usually if I would Google something, it would list a bunch of websites relating to what I Googled. On the left side of each website on the list, it would show a green , orange, or yellow symbol. If you hovered over the symbol with the mouse, it would let you know whether the website was safe, or if there was a risk of malicious malware before you visited the site. Recently I've noticed that those symbols no longer appear when I Google something. I was wondering if there was certain settings on my computer where I could bring those symbols back or if it was a change that Google has made to their searching technique.

Hi everyone!
Firstly thank you so much for reading this thread, as this issue has been driving me mad all day.
I have a Dell XPS 8900 which has been running great aside from a HDD error about six months ago. Upon replacing the HDD I have had no problems with the desktop computer until today.
My computer was operating perfectly last night, but today I've been having an infuriating issue with audio. I would like to point out that I made no changes to my computer prior to this problem occurring; I turned on the PC this morning and it's been causing me a headache ever since.
The problem
Here's the problem: when I try to play a YouTube video in Google Chrome or attempt to load a video project in Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.0, the speaker in the corner of my toolbar tells me that the Audio Service Is Not Running.
Clicking on the speaker brings up the Windows 10 troubleshooter which appears to fix the problem. However, loading a video on YouTube in Google Chrome or booting Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.0 causes the Audio Service to stop running again.

Assuming that I repair the Audio Service and don't load Google Chrome or Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.0, I can play videos and music with full sound from my HDD using the bog-standard Windows 10 Groove Music or Film & TV apps. Both work without a hitch.
What I've tried
In order to solve this I've tried:

I keep getting a message that this update is ready to install. I have installed it about 10 times, but after it is installed, I get the update icon and the same update is there ready to be installed. When I look at the installation history, it shows that it has been installed successfully.

HOW do I keep this update from showing up time after time?

I've been getting the above message on any site that has https in front of the address. Anything google related(searching, going to the main website) will cause this message to come up. If i use firefox i can do google searches but when i click any of the returned resaults links i get a browser hijack. Loading in safe mode with networking allows me to use everything like normal. Although trying to download something it will often stop the download saying a virus was detected. This happends in Safe and regular mode. I'm running windows vista. I think its some sort of malware but i can't be sure, so i thought i would post here first and see what to do. Thanks in advance.

Google Chrome's File Security Check Fail[ed]
Ever since using Google Chrome, many downloads, including ones from BC and other safe places, are stopped and this message is given:  File Security Check Failed
I can't even download Mother Teresa's web site's downloadables half the time.
I go to Firefox or msIE and download obviously safe utilities and programs without problems.
Question:  Is there any way to permanently disable File Security Check?

Chrome suffers first security flaw.

On Wednesday, researchers announced a flaw in how the Google Chrome browser behaves with undefined handlers. An exploit provided as a demonstration crashes the new browser.

And on Tuesday, mere hours after Chrome was released, researcher Aviv Raff concocted a proof-of-concept demo to show how the Google browser could be made vulnerable to a carpet-bombing flaw and thus open a window for ill-intentioned hackers.

I don't know what to do. For most people a quick change of the Windows clock time would fix this, but mine is already set right.

Sure, Google Chrome Frame increases the Microsoft IE attack surface?

? but there?s more to the issue than what?s currently being bickered about.
Google?s Chrome Frame plugin for Internet Explorer is meant to incorporate web 2.0 functionality that the IE browser currently does not support. As reported in [1] Microsoft fired back claiming that Google?s plugin will double the threat landscape for Internet Explorer users and that they would not recommend this plugin to their relatives. While Microsoft?s statement has some theoretical truth to it ? in the superficial conjecture that more code means more vulnerabilities ? it naively discounts the beneficial security features the plugin can add to the system.

I click YES and then the web page never comes up.
How can I get Google Chrome working again.   I tried  uninstalling and reinstalling it and this does not do any good.

A:Why is Google Chrome not working?

Try using Windows System Restore to simply roll back Windows to a point in time when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.

What isn't working? The screen shot you provided looks fine. Be sure you do not have any virus infections/malware that may impact web browser operation! I'd suggest running the excellent free program named Malwarebytes from malwarebytes.com just to be careful. WyreNut

As far as I can tell, after doing a Deep Scan with AVG Anti-virus Google Chrome no longer works. I also have an add-on to the Chrome Browser called Ghostery that no longer loads either. I will include a screen shot of what the browser looks like after it loads.

I have tried to reinstall Chrome but that failed. I tried a System Restore and that also failed.

One thing I did notice is that AVG seems to have place Google Chrome into it's "Disabled Programs" section. I will include a screenshot of that as well and I will include an arrow pointing to Chrome. I looked online to try to find instructions on removing Chrome from AVG's Disabled Programs list and the instructions were horrible.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
