Office 2003 freezes when trying to print, use print preview or enter page setup

Q: Office 2003 freezes when trying to print, use print preview or enter page setup

Hello to all!

It has been a while since this problem first occurred. Now it has become unbearable. When I try to print, use print preview or enter page setup, Microsoft Word 2003 freezes. The same thing also happens with other Office 2003 programs like Microsoft Excel 2003.

I am not sure if there is a problem with my printer driver (the printer is an HP L2600n by the way) as I have reinstalled it many times AND I have no problem using it as a network printer and can print the same word documents FINE from laptops or other desktop computers in the house. Thus I know that the documents aren't corrupted. I can also print .pdf documents fine from this computer. I think this problem started when my laser printer driver 'disappeared' and when I tried to reinstall it I got a spool-related error. I reinstalled the spool driver and then when I tried to print a .doc file I was unable to do so. The problem may most likely be linked to Office 2003 itself but I have tried options like deleting the data key and renaming the normal.dot template, all which have failed to alleviate the problem.

I think that is all the information I can offer to assist anyone trying to help me with this matter, and I hope that the problem can be fixed without me having to reformat or something like that.

Thank you in advance.

P.S Not sure if this will also come in handy but my OS is Windows XP Professional SP2.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

In Office, On the Help menu there is a 'detect and repair' option. It wouldn't hurt to run that. This could also be a sign that the hard drive is going bad (loosing stuff here and there)...

Hey guys,

I have a client at my workplace who has some problems in Internet Explorer 7 on a Windows XP desktop system.

You see, every time my client wanted to print out something, he/she usually goes into print preview. From there, there is a blank page on the first page, but there is some text on the second (and subsequent) pages. He/she is trying to print from a pop-up window with the menu bars and buttons in place.

I have to experiment and play around with the zoom buttons and even change it from portrait and landscape. My client is trying to print some reports and statistics for the VOIP lines on the administration page. How do I fix the particular issue?

My best guess is to upgrade the entire IE web browser to 8 (or maybe 9). Any other suggestions?

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on an Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2220 @ 2.40GHz with 2GB RAM on a 32-bit system.

It started on IE8 that whenever I went to print preview and then hit "print", my IE session would go "Not Responding". If I then would Alt-tab to a different prog, the print session would (usually) start after several seconds.

I upgraded to IE9 and the problem still occurs. I have no issues with any other program that has a print preview ability, including Firefox.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you

Just use a different browser. there are loads of problems like this with internet explorer.
Or, if you are really annoyed with this, you can try doing a clean install of windows.

OK, this one is a twist on a very often reported problem on these forums:

Internet Explorer 11 will not print and just shows an empty print preview page. (Edge works/prints fine).

However in this case I know what caused the issue but not how to resolve it. This issue CANNOT be repaired by the commonly offered 3 or 4 step Microsoft tips that are all over this site and elsewhere (disable protected mode, Low folder permissions, etc, etc,)

Here is the complete story: New laptop HP Z Book 17 with factory installed Windows 10 Pro. All worked great when first run. No issues. I installed Office 2010, Quicken, AutoCAD, Chrome ........ etc. All worked fine.
Then I installed a specialist program, 'Helvar Workshop' - which is a lighting control application that I need for my work and originally written for XP.
After installing the Workshop program it worked fine but I was no longer able to print or preview in IE11. This is not a new issue to me as it also broke the same functions with IE10 and 11 running on Windows 7. I only ever 'resolved the problem then by doing a system restore in Windows 7 and ultimately installing an XP VM to run 'Workshop'. In that configuration it did NOT break the print functions in XP's IE 6 or 7.

Having experienced the problem again on the new Z Book I went to System Restore and discovered that HP had supplied the machine without activating System Restore! Yes, I should have verified it was active before installing any apps ........ but seri... Read more

Help getting & installing a compatable driver for new Photosmart 7520.

Need to have 'Print Preview' in Printer Preferences. Newer Photosmart Printers have very few options under Preferences.

Have tried drivers for Office Jet 6100 & Deskjet 69800 as suggested in HP forums. Neither has 'Print Preview' in Printing Preferences.

My previous Photosmart C310 died, bought the 7520 as a replacement. If I remember correctly, when I upgraded to Windows 7 with the older Photosmart C310 I had to download an alternate driver. That printer worked fine for over 2 years with all the preferences. I failed to note the driver that worked with the C310.

Hope someone can help, or I'll return this one to Costco along with the $130.00 worth of ink.

Resolved, but to place it can shrink and can expand,

if Me.Filho0.Report.HasData Then
Me.Filho0.Visible = True
Me.Filho0.Visible = False

In the event if you are not given for each sub I put:

I have two users who are having this issue in excel 2003. When they try to print out any file in excel, they go to print preview and they can see all of the data. When they print (without the option to print gridlines check) only a blank page prints. If they try to print with the option to print gridlines checked the grid lines will print, but no data will print.

I tried removing excel through add/remove programs and then re-adding it(not completely uninstalling office just removing/re-adding excel) and itstill does not print. I have not tried a complete reinstall of office as (in outlook) each user is a delegate for several different people and also setup for several different mailboxes and I'm trying to avoid have to setup all of that up after a complete reinstall and also setup the other custom settings they have. I have copied/pasted content into my excel workbook
After adjusting row height on any worksheet, I click print preview and I get the same page 20 - 24 times shown in the preview. That is print preview believes it has 20 - 24 pages to print all with the same content. Subsequent content (Beyond the first page) is not displayed.

this only happens after I adjust the row height of any worksheet and it affects all the worksheets
before any row height adjustments the sheets are displayed correctly in print preview
after height adjustment, I expect the sheets to grow to perhaps two pages long perhaps three at most - I cannot however see the second (or third page) in print preview, only the first and that is repeated over and over

I have tried:
Paste special - only paste the text, numbers etc. - result - same as above

I have created a document in Excel 2016 with 5 work sheets.
Each worksheet comprises 2 pages.
I want the document to be able to print out as 5 x 2-sided sheets.
The Print Preview appears fine, with 10 pages, and all in the correct sequence.
After completing the document at home, I printed it on a Canon printer and all was fine.
However, at work, using an HP printer, the Print Preview still appears fine, but pages print in wrong sequence; with some printing 2-sided and others single-sided, although the content for each page appears correctly on the printed sheet.
If I save the file as a PDF, the pages are correctly ordered, and print out as 5 x 2-sided sheets as intended.
(OS is Windows 10)
I've created as 5 worksheets to allow flexibility of use with the document... Worksheet 1, for example will only ever need to be saved as a 2-page PDF; sometimes only 2 or 3 of the worksheets need to be printed, and other times all sheets need to be printed.

Is the Excel file somehow retaining some of the printer profile from when it was originally created which is conflicting with a different printer profile? or is there a simpler explanation.

Any help gratefully accepted... I've spent hours trying to solve the problem and wasted hundreds of sheets of paper!

Many programs will not work if their files are just copied from one system to another. If that's what you did rather than reinstalling from the installation disks, you're likely going to have several problems.

A:IE7 Print Preview - change print size

I think this is controlled by your printer. From the IE7 FAQ page:
" Why do I have to reset the print options every time I open Internet Explorer?
Printing changes made within Internet Explorer are always temporary. To make changes permanently, you need to change them in Windows. For information about changing Windows print options, see Choosing print options."

I didn't see anything in that link particularly useful though ... and when I tried to simply force my printer to print at 100% through the print driver settings, it would always reset itself to Actual Size. Worth a shot for you perhaps, via Properties > Advanced > Printing Defaults > Effects (but that's when using my HP LaserJet 2420 ... will be different depending on make and model of printer, and some printers may not even support this option)

You may need to contact your printer manufacturer if it's bugging you that much, see whether your printer can handle it

Hi everyone

I have Office 2008 for Mac.

I'm trying to print a two page document, the print preview is fine but when the document comes out of the printer, the text/info from the first page has been duplicated into the layout of the second page with the text that should be there totally gone. This means I only ever get 1 usable page and none of the vital second page information.

I've swapped printers, uninstalled and reinstalled all my software, done my office updates, restarted my computer, even tried a duplicate word document and am still not having any luck. My printer company is adamant its a Word problem.

Can anyone help?

Hi, I just purchased an used computer with Windows 7Home Premium x64, this is an HP Slimline s5610f. The problem that I have is with a Brother HL 2040 series printer. It gave me a really hard time to install the drivers that I downloaded from the Brother website I kept getting a "0x00000057" error and "could not find suitable driver for this printer" error. Hello Everyone,
I have tried searching and searching for this problem but nothing seems to come up with this particularly odd problem. I'm actually running 3rd party software hosted on an AS/400 system but from a Windows 7 32-bit computer. If I right-click the title-bar of the window and select print, the print dialog box comes up asking for the printer I want to use. I select one, then click "Print" and the following comes out on the page....
<See Sample.jpg> (Of course, that's not an actual page, it's a representation of what you'd see on the page, but it's accurate despite the fact that it's color. Anyway, the print screens come out light and don't scan in well.)
As you can see, the print dialog box is clearly visible on the page. This seems to randomly crop up only on Windows 7 boxes and once it starts, we seem to have no way to stop it.

Whenever I print to the shared printer on my Windows 7 desktop, the print job will just sit in the print queue. If I stop and then start the print spooler, the job will print. It happens from an XP laptop. Print jobs sent from the local Windows 7 computer print just fine.
How can i solve this one ? :(

This issue with some particular laptop running windows Xp and windows 7 Home

A:Whenever I print to the shared printer he print job will just sit in the print queue

So, the Windows 7 Desktop has the printer physically attached to it and it's shared?
And the XP laptop is sharing the printer through the network? If I understand you correctly?
If so, on the XP Laptop, go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Are there any devices with yellow flags? Or Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is there an Unknown Device? Or any listings for the printer? If so, right click it and Uninstall it. Now go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall any drivers or software for the printer. Now,go to Printers and Faxes, and if the printer icons is there, Right click the shared printer icon and Delete it. And Restart the computer. Now when the computer comes back up, go to the printer manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in the model# for the printer and download the driver for the printer for XP and install it. Now, go to Start/Run and type the computer name of the Windows 7 machine (ex) \\ComputerName and press enter. A window should open up with the shared drives on the 7 computer, with the shared printer. Right click the shared printer and choose Connect. This will add the printer to Printers and Faxes again. Right click this printer/Properties and print a Test Page.

I'm not sure where they're coming from. I've tried searching for those file names on the C: drive, but XP tells me it can't find any such files. The only time I see these pictures is when I try to print directly from the preview screen (the print wizard). I guess I wouldn't care, except that some of them appear to be banners from porn sites. At first, I thought they were coming in with the document I was trying to print. Then, I sent myself an e-mail with a picture attached. Canon and HP both agree that they not the problem, but that it's a windows issue. I can't pay them what they want right now. So I hope You Can help me Thank you, Douglas

After upgrading Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro I can't print. I get no print preview window and I get an error msg that Windows can't find my selected printer (even though I haven't picked one since I don't have a preview screen). I have updated drivers and reinstalled my printer. Firefox 44.0.2. Help, please.

Additionally, in Chrome I will get a print preview screen but I still get no connection with my printer.

A:No print preview in Firefox

What printer is your system default? Is that the one to which Firefox is defaulting?

Visiting Google, the HP web site (including their forum, help, and troubleshooting feature), and Microsoft help has provided me with no insight. The Microsoft site seems to be devoted to Office Word options, but does not address the details which follow.Using File>Print to initiate a print job (in both FF and IE) no longer offers the print preview option in the first window or anywhere else I can find. Questioning other users of this machine about any changes they have performed has been useless to determine whether or not they changed settings. I have not found any settings which I can change to retrieve this option.Recent events which I know of since my last use of print preview are:Windows automatic updatesinstalling Google Chromeadding Google DocsI do not know if any of these may have caused me to loose the print preview feature. Hi, this has got me confused. I create a image in Photoshop, resize for a 8X11 print, then save it as a jpeg. If I open it in Paint, and do a "print preview" the image is huge, split into two pages. So I'm afraid to email the image, fearing it will be too big to print on one page. Why is this? I even check the image properties again in Photoshop, and they confirm 8X11 print size, (but NOT in Paint, it says its much larger) I don't get it."

A:PAINT print preview too big

It depends on the resolution you are using on your video card when you create the image. Try saving it by pixel size, not page size and save it at 640x480 and see how it looks. If you are worried about file size when emailing it, save it in a compressable file format like .jpg

I create Photoshop images on A4 paper.
The created image looks perfectly placed in the program, but when I go to print, the full A4 size is not displayed in the preview pane, the bottom is missing. ( the actual bottom of the preview pane, not just the image.)

If I print this image after unticking the 'centre image' option, the image is placed at the very top of the sheet of A4 paper ignoring the top margin. (I can still see the margin in the print preview)

If I print this image without unticking the 'centre image' option, I get a VERY small image in the top left hand corner of my sheet of A4.

The only way I can print the image correctly is to untick the 'centre image' option, & drag the image down in the preview pane, guessing at what height on the paper it will be printed.

I am using Windows Vista sp1 64 bit, & a HP Laserjet 1022nw printer.
All my drivers/ windows/ Photoshop are up to date with all patches & updates.

Has anyone any idea why this is happening & how to fix it?

Thanks for any replies

In Quattro Pro X6 (on Windows 7), when I go to print preview, the spreadsheet is shown miniaturized in the preview even though in page setup, it's set to fit one page. To see a "true" preview, I have to go into page setup again in the print preview screen and press "ok" just to get it to show correctly. Is there a way to avoid this minimizing and just skip to how it'll look by the page setup conditions already set? When I'm working and printing multiple spreadsheets, it can get time consuming messing with page setup multiple times.

It looks like this only happens when printing a selection. It doesn't happen when printing a whole sheet.
