Q: thinkpad T470S cannot detect my wireless ac 8265 wifi card

Hello everyone,i'll try to give the most details i can.I just bought a 2nd hand t470s, and started by reinstalling windows from a usb bootable win10 i had at home.Everything worked fine except for the wifi card : i dosnt show anywhere. i cant see it on the device manager, its not greyed out nor hidden. Everything up to date, from windows update, to single driver update from the device manager, the intel update tool or even all the lenovo support drivers.I finally asked the support for a clean win10 pro update using my serial number. reinstalled everything clean, but still no wifi card detected. I switch with a killer 1535 from my other laptop : the ac 8265 worked on my other laptop, but i couldnt get the killer 1535 to work on my 470s (i could see it in the devicer manager but kept getting greyed out..).I spent the last 4 days on it and i feel like i read all the google pages that couldve helpt me.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My building has a free wifi service. There are routers on each floor. My computer has built in wireless lan. It will recognize signals from those who have installed ATT's 2wire system, but not a single signal from and othe routers in the building. I am now using a usb wifi adapter which has detected all the signals. I have reinstalled the drivers and tried to connect the wireless lan but it has been unsuccessful. The windows connection software will not work. It seems strange to be able to detect the ATT connections but not any of the buildings signals.

Yesterday I received my 720s i7-8550u MX150 laptop and on first impressions I am impressed with the laptop (Although I have only used for a couple hours). However the wifi performance of the QCA9377 wifi card is very poor and I would like to swap out for an Intel 8265. I have however read about whitelisting - The fact that Lenovo lock down the bios so the machine only boots with certain hardware installed.  Coming from using Dell laptops this seems madness to me! I can get a 'Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265, 2230, 2x2 AC + BT, Vpro' wifi card from Amazon UK for £17.95 delivered but I wanted to check: 1) That I will be ok to swap the cards over and have the warranty maintained.  I'll keep the old card so I can replace if I need to send back for warranty reasons.2) That if I swap the wifi card over it will work ok with my laptop My part number is 81BD0044UK and I have looked at the manual at https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad720s-14ikb_hmm_201705.pdf which lists the following card in the parts list: Wirelesslan_WIFI, Intel 8265 2x2AC+BT PCIE M.2 WLAN NV, WIFI 2X2 AC+BT4.1 SW10K97453 Can anyone please help confirm that I am ok to swap the card over please? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Matt

When my Carbon 5th is connected to 5 GHz Wifi it randomly resets (drops) after several hours (connection is being lost, Windows reports "Cannot connect to the network"). Sometimes it is possible to connect again manually, sometimes only reboot makes it work again. Connection to 2.4 GHz Wifi always works totally fine. I've seen several similar topics on Intel forums with the same issue, looks like it touches several Intel WiFi adapters. No solution have been found except using only old 2.4 GHz protocols or external WiFi adaptors. I tried different drivers and many parameter sets on my router - nothing solves this issue. It is very sad to have only 20mbps with 2.4 GHz while new standards offer more than 100mbps. Did you face this issue? Any ideas to solve it out?

Howdy folks, We have a new rollout of laptops with Win10 that we want the machines to grab the network as soon as they come up so our co-workers can log right in. We have a CA that our ISE service checks before sending to DHCP for addressing and AP allocation. We are seeing intermittent and inconsisent successful connections, every machine in our test group has failed auto connect at least once. Things we have tried:Making sure power settings are set to best performanceTurning off Fast BootDisabling HibernateLatest Intel WiFi driversLatest Lenovo power managementWin 10 build 1709 We have also done some network traces to watch the traffic and see if there was anything glaring that would tell us why the connection would not initiate. We are kind of at our wit's end and could use a few extra eyes/minds on this. Let us know if we can provide anything else and we will see what we can do!  :-) Thanks in advance for any help. -brad and the team

When I undock the laptop by pulling the USB-C cable out (either sleeping beforehand or not sleeping first) then I am getting an intermittent issue where the wifi claims to be disabled. The only way to resolve this is a hard reboot.
Toggling airplane mode doesn't help. Disabling and reenabling the wifi network connection doesn't help. Toggling airplane mode from Fn-PrtScr doesn't help.
It is acting as though the hardware radio is turned off (like when laptops used to come with a hardware radio switch), but with no method to turn it on again.
Looking in the system event log I can see entries from source Netwtw04, Event ID 7012 stating "radio OFF"
Drivers and bios are all up to date.

Any ideas?

Hello Guys. I'm running on ThinkPad T450s. I've tried to install a SIM card in its tray with no detection at all. After going through google, Wireless WAN, Ericsson® N5321 and Wireless WAN, Sierra Wireless EM7345  came into my attention. I went to my Device Manager where I found non of the adapters installed. Is it possible for them to be installed without being displayed on Device Manager? I've seen some suggestion to replace the current Wi-Fi adapter with Sierra Wireless EM7345. My concern is if I'll be in position to access Wi-Fi after its adapter being replaced with this Wireless WWAN adapter. Are these Wireless WWAN adapters provide access to Wi-Fi? Most of the Wireless WWAN adapters I've gone through eBay works with X230s X240 W540 T440P T440S W540; will these works well with this T450s of mine? Thanks in advance. Regards, Cathbert.

HiMost likely the wwan card isn't installed in the laptop. Provide, please, its MTM code (it starts with 20BW or 20BX) to check out the factory configuration. If there are CTO symbols, send me laptop serial number via the forum private messages service.Only Lenovo approved wwan cards for T450s will work in the laptop, with appropriate service p/n (FRU).The wwan card will not work in the wlan slot, it even can't be fitted there. Of course, modern built-in wwan cards don't support wifi capabilities.

My organization utilizes quite a few Thinkpad Yoga S1s (20C0 and 20DK), all of them seem to have issues with the wireless adapters, they will intermittently stop detecting any wireless networks. We have noticed that this seems to happen most often when moving the laptop either between APs or to different wifi networks, and to get it to work again we either have to disable then re-enable the wireless AC adapter's driver or reboot, sometimes needing to do both. We have tried more recent drivers and it doesn't seem to have much effect, has anyone else seen this issue and do you have a resolution? Thanks

You don't mention operating system?  It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but try this:

Under device manager/network adapters, right-click the wireless card and select properties.  On the power management tab, uncheck the option that allows the computer to turn the device off to save power.

When I boot up my laptop I would say it's a coin flip whether or not it detects my WiFi card on boot--I can tell whether or not it has been detected on boot because the WiFi symbol (instead of the LAN) symbol will appear in the bottom right corner of the home/login screen. When the card is detected the WiFi works PERFECTLY fine. This problem started happening when I used and uninstalled Technitium (a program that allows you to easily change your WIFI card's MAC address.) The reason I was using this program was so I could keep using an airport's complimentary free 30 min WiFi service for a few hours without having to pay--surely I've been paying for it in problems the last few months. Could anyone offer any insight as to how I can fix this? You guys have been my heroes since I was a kid.

guys this one has me stumped cold. Dell Inspiron laptop, very clean software wise, had original mini-card [internal] which could not detect any wifi networks - known good wifi AP's. All the windows checked showed the device working properly but I finally replaced it with one of the better "n" cards out there. Same thing all over again. Put it right next to a working AP, cannot detect a thing. Antennae is hooked up properly.

If I plug a good WIFI stick into USB, it works immediately, no drama.

I have no idea what is preventing this from detecting anything. What should I be looking for?

A:WLAN Mini-card Good, but cannot detect WIFI ??

Hi zapp22,

It appears that the 'Wireless Card' is currently 'Disabled'; please check its status in 'BIOS' and 'enable' it if needed. To access 'BIOS' you may follow the steps listed below:
- Power off the laptop > Power it back on and at 'Dell splash screen', repeatedly tap 'F 2 key' (BIOS screen should appear) > Usually 'Dell Inspiron' laptops have a 'category' named 'Advanced' > Ensure that WLAN is enabled > 'Save Settings' and 'Exit'
(Note: BIOS setup may vary based on different laptop models)

If the wireless card still does not detect any networks in 'Windows', try tapping <Function><F2> or only <F2> if the previous key combination does not work. This is the 'radio control' for the 'Wireless Card' installed in the system.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the finding; would be glad to assist.

Have a look in System Information there you should find which Version you are using ...

Then check on your Motherboards Website .. To see what the latest Version is ..

Now be careful but you may want to try opening it up to see if the thing sits right in there. I looked into the 730 quite extensively online before my purchase and saw it mentioned somewhere that a lot of wifi problems may be due to shoddy installation. Mine has an Intel 9260 160MHz adapter and no drops so far.EDIT: BEFORE you do that check your battery settings. Right click on battery> power options>change plan settings>change advanced power settings>wireless adapter settings>power saving mode and fiddle with these settings. Could be Windows' power saving is disabling your wifi though I kind of doubt it. Mine is on maximum power saving and no drops yet.Could you tell if it shows the wifi signal dropping in the bottom right corner or can you tell it's dropping when you're downloading sth or gaming?

Hello all. I came across this website and forum through searching for this problem. I've come across similar problems but they all either end with the person taking their computer to a shop or it goes unsolved.

Here is the issue:
My computer (Dell Vostro 1500 with Windows XP) will not detect the wireless network we have here at home. The wireless card is an Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG. The laptop has a light that shows if WiFi is on or not. Whenever I turn on the laptop, the light is usually on but not detecting any wireless network (either ours or someone else's).

-This started happening about three weeks ago. There was no damage to the computer. I reformatted the laptop and reinstalled all the drivers but the problem persisted.
-Turns out one of our cats had thrown up on the router we had at the time so I figured that was the problem and waited until we got another one.
-The new one came yesterday and everything was working fine. A couple hours later the problem resurfaced.

I rolled back the driver thinking maybe that was the issue but apparently it wasn't. I tried uninstalling the wireless card and reinstalling. The only thing that accomplished was deleting the profile I had on there. I've tried the simple repair option but that hasn't worked.

I know the router is broadcasting a signal because everyone else in the house is getting the connection.

Here is what is displayed when I do the IPCONFIG/ALL in CMD:

Hello,

I have a Inspiron 1520 with a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN mini Card. Lately I noticed that if I left the laptop on (or maybe just restart, not sure, don't want to test it right now) and let it go to sleep and then turn it back on, it won't detect any wireless networks. I have to wait 10-15 minutes before it can detect networks again, I don't know what to do. I know its not the router, since it can't detect other networks either which there are a few around. I have this laptop for almost a year now. It worked just fine till recently. I think it is the network card, the driver or the hardware, I don't know, but while it just start up, it takes forever for the wireless to start detecting again. Anyone know why and what can I do about it. (BTW, I reformatted in hope it will fix it, it didn't).

You may have to disable the onboard wireless card...

Check your userguide on how to do this.

Hi

I bought an Acer 2301 laptop a few months ago. It has an Acer IPN 2220 wireless LAN card. A few days ago I visited my brother who has a wireless network set up in his house ? DLINK ADSL broadband router. He uses the wireless network for 1 Pc and 2 laptops. As I had my laptop I tried to connect to this network but couldn?t. I tried finding wireless networks and it said there were no wireless networks found in range. I disabled and re-enabled the LAN card. I uninstalled and re-installed it. I disabled my firewall. All to no avail. The network is not running encrypted and my brother said he had no trouble connecting all his wireless cards. Can anyone explain why my wireless LAN card couldn?t find anything?

Thanks

A:Wireless Lan Card Cant Detect Network

there could be several reasons for this, the card could have simply had its "radio" turned off. Most internal cards have a switch function to turn on and off their ability to detect networks. This is usually either a special button or a key combo. Check the BIOS, the card may have to be enabled in there as well as in device manager. Some systems I've encountered come with wireless disabled in the BIOS as default. Also, are you sure your brother's router was "broadcasting" its SSID. Most routers have the ability to turn this off. This causes you to have to know the SSID and config the card manually.

Hello,

I recently purchased a used laptop from a local school district and I have been trying to access the wireless internet connection I have at home - but I can't.

It can connect to the internet through the ethernet cable. It came with "IBM Access Connections", a connections managing program that lets me switch between the default "USD XXX Wireless" network (The school district's default wireless connection), "Out of District" (also came when I bought the computer) and "My House", the network I created to connect the laptop to the internet at home (that I'm forced to use an ethernet cable with).

In the Control Panel, an icon "Wireless LAN Settings" is available, that gives me the message "Unable to Connect to the Wireless NetCard. Is it inserted?".

All of these clues of wireless connections that once were lead me to believe that the 'NetCard' that allows for wireless connections was removed before the laptop was given to me. Is there somewhere I can check to see if this hardware exists or is configured correctly?

I am running Windows 10 Pro on a brand new T470 laptop. Lenovo Update offers an "Intel 8265 Wireless LAN Driver - 10 [64]" update, but it simply will not install after repeated attempts. The update downloads and says that it needs to restart to complete the install, but after restarting and running Lenovo Update again, the same driver update shows up once again as "Critical update." Does anyone know how to actually get this critical update to install?

Hi everyone. I just acquired a Gen 3 X1 Carbon. When I got it, it had Windows 10 on it. I do not like Windows 10 at all so I replaced it with Windows 8, which I will upgrade to 8.1. However... The wifi card is not functioning. I installed every possible wifi driver (but not Sierra) and the wifi card is not even showing up as a connected device in Device Manager (see the attached screenshot).  I also noticed that ALT + F4 is not functioning either. I installed every other driver I can think of. Please help!
