I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I got a great deal on a slighlty used X250, but after using it for a bit realized it did not come with the backlit keyboard.  My spacebar does not have the little light symbol on it and obviously FN + Space Bar does nothing.  My impression was that the X250 backlit keyboard came standard on all X250's regardless of configuration.  Any ideas?

A:X250 without Backlit keyboard?

Hi and welcome, GunnderIf you purchased laptop in the Lenovo Canada on-line store or similar, backlight keyboard should be an only one option for x250. I don't see another options, in any case.Models with fixed configuration (i.e.not CTO) might have different type of keyboards, depending on the laptop model.

Hi, I was looking for a replacement keyboard for my x230 and was wondering how I could tell if that keyboard would be compatible with my laptop. For example would a Korean x230 keyboard work on my x230 from Canada? and if the Korean x230 Keyboard had backlighting, would that backlighting work on my laptop which currently doesn't have any backlighting. I searched for a bit in the forums but couldn't get a clear answer, any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Hello, I started a new post because this is a different Error. After I updated my x230t using the recommeneded updates from the website, my keyboard suddenly stopped working. I tried re-installing windows but the error remained. I eventually found the issue being that when I start up the PC, the Fn key is stuck as if its still pressed, even when its not (the key itself isnt stuck). To solve this, I went into Bios and swapped the Fn key with left Ctrl, and now whenever I boot up the PC I plug in an external keyboard and press left Ctrl, this "unsticks" the left Ctrl key (which is physically the Fn key after I swapped them)  and lets me use the computer normally. What could have caused it? is it unrelated to windows seeing as it happened after I clean installed? how do I go about fixing it? and can I contact an offical Lenovo support somewhere online?

I would just replace the keyboard.  This sort of problem is almost always a short in the keyboard.  Used ones are commonly available.  The T430, X230, T530, W530 all use the same keyboard

Thank you to all who responded to my last post about acquiring an x250. I love it! However, in using it for the past few weeks, I have discovered a few issues that I would like to get addressed under warranty (good through Feb!!). Before doing so, I'd like to gather as much info as possible as far as what to watch for, common issues etc while I still have the coverage in an effort to minimize out of pocket costs.    1) U key types with the slightest touch to the key cap. (If you blow on it too hard type of pressure where the key itself doesn't move at all). I called support today and they are going to send someone out to replace the keyboard in the next few days. I asked if they could replace it with a backlit version and obviosuly they can't...Bummer! Is there anything I should know about this process in the interest of being prepared? Anything I should make sure is being done or ask to have done at that time?  2) The external(flush) battery moves in and out a bit(knee to stomach if on your lap) if you place your hand back there or pick up the machine. Is this an issue or is that just how they are? There doesn't appear to be any issue with the battery iteslf and it holds a good charge.  3) The laptop creeks a bit when I place my hands on the palm rests or pick it up from the sides as if it were loose. There is also some minor play between the top case and the side if I move it around a bit. This is especially apparent in the back where... Read more

Other Thinkpads I use (past and current) with backlit keyboards turned off the backlight when power saving dimmed and.or turned off the display.  This X250 is not behaving that way.  The keyboard backlight stays on after the screen dims.  Is this expected behavior on some machines?  I prefer the keyboard light to turn off when the screen dims. (I had this same issue with a T440s that was never resolved either)

However now the mouse buttons for the trackpoint are not working. The trackpad and the trackpoint itself along with the rest of the board work "flawlessly" but not the three buttons for the trackpoint. I'v tried removing and reinstalling the Synaptic drivers, both the newest version and an older one recomended on a different forum. I have triple double checked the board connection is firmly attached and that all the settings in both BIOS and the synaptic panel are set as normal but still no luck. Any help or advice to solve this would be greatly appriciated.

I don't have anything in my program files nor in the Control Panel/Keyboard to set the function of the buttons. None of them have ever worked.

Any suggestions?

A:e-machine keyboard

Does the keyboard detect as an e-machine keyboard, or a generic keyboard in the device manager? If it detects as a standard keyboard, that may be it.

How about when you go to Keyboard under Control Panel? Nothing??

Anyway, you may want to check your drivers cds that came with it to see if they have anything you may need to install to alter the functions. Do they have a website? There should be moderate documentation to help you out.

Good luck in solving this.

New computer? PS2 mouse and keyboard? Are they plugged into the right ports? You can try the keyboard by itself and see if it will work. Try going into the computers bios with the keyboard and see if you can move around the different screens. If the mouse and keyboard are both PS2 then the ports could be blown. Some motherboards had the votage used on PS2 ports fused.

I got a free 486DX4 machine and want to play around with it. However it is so old that it obviously doesn't have USB, but it doesn't have PS/2 either. What kind of mouse+keyboard do I use and are they expensive?

A:Need keyboard + mouse for 486DX4 machine

The keyboard jack on the computer is most likely a about a half inch diameter DIN jack with 5 contacts. It may be easier to find a plug adapter for a keyboard with a PS/2 6 contact min-DIN plug than a keyboard with the correct plug.

You can read about the keyboard connectors through the ages here:
http://encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com/PC+keyboards

One possible source of an adapter is here:
http://www.esmo.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1191

The computer most likely used male 9 pin D-Sub socket for an RS-232 connection for the mouse. Here is some information on possible sources for adapting a mouse with a PS/2 6 contact min-DIN plug to a serial port:

Hey there folks,

Recently i purchased a Blackhawk - Laptop from pcmicrwoworks, a reseller in the States and had it shipped to Germany finally.

Everything fine so far, i got a bit used to Vista by now and the machine runs perfect. Well if there wasnt the problem with the Keyboard :

The reseller was so kind to put in a german keyboard for me, which is neat, however, am I not able to get ANY keyboard layouts working.
I am able to change them in the propetiers and so on, but they are not being recognized by the machine.
I tried microsofts keyboard layout creator, making my own custom layouts, but still without any results.

Thus at the moment the keys on my laptop are pretty random : E is exchanged in place with R C with B D with Z H with M M with K... you get the idea by now, its a mess.

Now some keys have the right position but the rest just aint on the right place.

Well i wondered if this might be a well known Vista issue, also i considered that maybe smth has gone wrong in the whole custom-building proccess.

Oh well right now i can only guess,

anybody got an advice? who wants to be my saving angle

best wishes

A:How to access BIOS on machine with wireless keyboard and no ...

While not a definite answer but try a wired USB keyboard in place of the wireless one.  There may be a setting in the BIOS to change the way the keyboard interacts on boot but, of course, you have to get into the BIOS.  Looking at other comments on this problem, if you happen to have a PS/2 keyboard and a PS/2 to USB adapter, then this seems to be a better choice.  Plug the PS/2 keyboard into the PS/2 to USB adapter and then try that on boot to enter the BIOS.  Then look for the setting to allow the keyboard to be recognised at boot.  Another choice is to move the USB port the wireless keyboard uses.  If the back ports, move to the front, if the front move to the back.Let me know if any of those help.

This thin piece has broke to the point where it sometimes sticks to the keyboard itself when removing it. In addition to this, it also can move freely side to side.I'm wondering if this is a part that's possible to buy or replace, and possibly what the name of it would be.I know this is a pretty poor description, hopefully someone will understand! Thanks.

Ok, To be quite honest I never really use the sleep feature on my computer, possibly the only time I ever did was to test it was working, But anyway the problem is that whenever I'd have My machine asleep whether it be pressing the button by accident or doing it intentionally, when I tell it to wake it up, It does everything normally (Brings back Desktop etc.) but the keyboard (And sometimes the mouse) are practically dead, No lights on and stuff, and doesn't come back unless I restart and on some occasions completely unplug the power cables for about half an hour.

I did some research around and I couldn't find anything helpful, Some suggested upgrading the Bios (Done) and some said turning off the respective settings in "Power options" and the "Device manager" (Did that too) and still no result, I'm using windows 7 SP1 and all the latest drivers and updates, My motherboard is an Intel DH67CLB3 with latest bios.

The real problem for me is that I don't know how long it has been going on for and whether or not I had anything to do with it, because like I said I rarely use the sleep button, But whenever I do It always does this on wakeup.

Can Anyone help?

A:Keyboard doesn't work after waking up my machine.

Method 1
Verify if the keyboard is enabled to wake the computer out of sleep mode.

a) Open the Keyboard control panel item, as described in Method 1.
b) Click the Hardware tab, and then click Properties.
c) Click the Change Settings button

Note This step requires Administrator access
d) Click the Power Management tab, and then verify that Allow this device to wake the computer is enabled.
e) Click OK, and then click OK again.

Method 2
If the above step fails then make sure that you have updated the drivers for the keyboard from the manufacturer website.
Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly

I recently bought an X250, and immediately upon using it, found that the spacebar is not as responsive as all the older thinkpads I've had in the past. Specifically, when I type I press on the right side of the spacebar to create a space, but my usual amount of force is no longer responded to by the keyboard. If I push harder, it will respond, but that's annoying because it slows down my typing speed. If I press on the middle of the spacebar it works much better, and if I press it with my left thumb it works better, too. Does that mean I'm typing wrong all these years, or did I end up with a bad key?  I have depot service, so would Lenovo address this if I send it in? If I send this in, do I need to remove all the data on the machine? Would they replace the spacebar or the entire keyboard as I saw somewhere? How long would it take? Gotta say that the keyboard is much worse than the X230 that I am coming from. Thanks for any heads up!

Good morning everyone. I installed on my x250 (using a free WWAN slot) M.2 SSD disk - ADATA Premier SP600 256GB M.2 SSD. First installation: April 2016. The disk worked great. After a "BIG windows10 update" the drive began to freeze and died on August 2016. The drive was replaced with a new one. On March 2017 the problem returned (in the new disk) - again began to freeze and died. From here my question arises - did I make a mistake somewhere? Do dear forumers who did similar installations on their x250 have similar problems? What can I do to prevent the problem on the third drive? During installation I did not mix anything in BIOS etc - just "plug ang play". I would be very grateful for your help.

Hello guys I recently bought a second hand X250 with an Intel 240gb SSD installed and I am planning to install also an M.2 SSD to install Linux.I have already installed Linux in another partition in the Intel, but in general I am not a big fan of grub and also I don't like the restriction of maximum 4 primary partitions per disk. I would prefer to keep the Windows drive 100% clean of any Linux staff. So, I'm planning to install my Linux in the M.2 drive (I have already cleaned my system disk of the Linux staff, grub etc) and I was wondering if choosing the boot up device from the bios is going to be an option, without grub or other boot loaders. I just want to leave the Intel as default boot device and when I want to boot up in Linux, I will choose to boot from the M.2 SSD.Will such a setup work in my Thinkpad? As far as the M.2 drive itself, a 120 gb is more than enough and I am planning to go for an ADATA. I have read a lot of negative reviews about the Transcend M.2s and I don't trust "random" manufacturers, like ZTC or KingDian. Is there any better option for me? Thank you very much for your time. I 'm looking forward to your replies. Cheers

I've just received a new X250, maxed out, and I'm really unhappy. Within a few minutes of booting it, I was seeing red and blue horizontal lines on the screen. I hoped these would be fixed by updates, but regardless of the driver, they are still there. To add insult to injury, the ports on the left hand side of the laptop do not line up with the casing. The USB port can be used, but the Display Port is seriously rubbing. The VGA connector is unusable. I'd hoped I'd have the laptop a week before I started a new job, and now it looks like I will be a week later. Does anyone know how I best approach Lenovo for a replacement under the Sale of Goods Act? I really don't want it to be repaired - this is a bad machine.

Sorry to hear about the issues with your new X250. That must be very frustrating. According to Lenovo, returns should be easy providing you do it within 14 days.

I appreciate you may not receive the replacement before you start your new job. You might want to ask Lenovo if they have a similarly configured X250 in stock that they could send you instead of waiting for the replacement to come from China.

I just finished installing an EM7345 WWAN card in my X250 running Win 7 and when I launch Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation I receive an error that the SIM cannot be read.  The support info for the error tells me that the SIM is not found. When I use netsh mbn sh read int=* from command prompt I also see that SIM is not inserted. I have verified SIM is correctly inserted.I have verified SIM works in another device. Any thoughts?  I have been scouring for guidance on this for quite a while now.

HelloMake sure the wwan card is enabled in the BIOS Setup (Security -> I/O Port Access).

My second X250 came in with a 16GB SanDisk SSD in addition to a 500GB HDD. Reading through the forum, a post mentioned that this 16GB SSD is placed in the position of the smart card reader. The mannual says this is a 3rd NGFF adapter. I am wondering if this 16GB SSD can be upgraded with a m.2 2242 32GB SSD module (or other types). I opened the back cover, lifted the internal battery, then lifted the shining metal cover a little and I don't see a memory module and port under it. I have installed Linux Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on to this 16GB SSD; the Ubuntu install runs well except that only 1.5GB space left. I am trying to see if there is a way to replace this 16GB SSD with a larger size module. Using the m.2 port next to the WiFi card is my last resort. I need advice before taking more parts apart. Thank you.
