Serious problem of thinkpad T430s' battery!

Q: Serious problem of thinkpad T430s' battery!

When I use the battery as the power of my laptop, it always shutdown abnormally before the battery reach the ?critical low battery alarm?.For example, I set the power manager to sleep when the battery lower than 10%. However, it will out of power when the battery reaches 12-13%. It wasn?t a normal shut down, it suddenly goes down without any alarm. It seems that the power been cut down by someone. My laptop is a new thinkpad T430s, it seems something wrong with the battery. I try to Perform Reset the battery, but it still not work.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

try to reinstall the ThinkVantage Power Manager? If that doesn't work, then just give Lenovo a call and have them resend you a new battery.

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. This is my first post, please be gentle. I have a ThinkPad T430s. Great machine, love it to death (in addition to the following, my only complaints are the lack of a 7-row keyboard, as well as painful disassembly process). Something that has proved to be a significant source of irritation is the fact that the 9mm CD/DVD drive has a very tangible "wobble." I've heard from other people, namely individuals on these Forums and co-workers who have contacted Lenovo, that this very noticable "wobble" is normal and will not affect the operation of the drive. Even with this in mind, I have been racking my brain on a way to fill in the gap between the top of the drive and the chassis/palmrest. I was told replacing the drive with a 12.7mm CD/DVD drive would solve this issue. Does anyone have an opinion on this issue? Thank you in advance,- SharkQUIRKS, the most eccentric of Marine Life

Hi all, I'm not most learned when it comes to tech so bear with me if my terminology or knowledge is incorrect, but out of desperation I've decided to post here. A few days ago I tried to boot my T430s but windows boot manager showed me error 0xc00000e9 before I could even reach the Windows 10 screen. I then went into Lenovo diagnostics and ran a quick test where the results showed that everything passed except Smart status Smart short self testDrive self testRandom seek testFunnel seek testTargeted read test Google seems to suggest that this is hard drive / hard disk drive issue - I don't really know how to fix this. I'm thinking of downloading Windows 10 setup onto a USB or CD and then trying to see if I get past the boot screen. From the information given, do you think my data has been lost or is this the kind of error where data can be retrieved? I never backed up important documents, it's safe to say I have learned my lesson. I appreciate any advice RegardsSM

The unit is 4 years old. It got into issues recently. The t430s will shut down for no reason after log into the system (the screen go black suddenly) and it will reboot by itself. It will do this for few time (around 3 times )and then the t430s will be hard to boot up. The light on the power buttom is on but the system can not boot up.It was taken to Lennovo service station here at China, the guy told me that the motherboard had issues and it needed to be replaced. What should I do?

It is hard to know without seeing it.  It might be the motherboard, but I might suspect overheating and try reseating the fan with new thermal grease.

I have a T430 that will not boot when the battery is in the laptop.  I thought this was a battery issue so I bought a replacement from Amazon and the problem went away for about 3 months.  Now the issue is back so I ended up buying a new battery directly from Lenovo just to make sure I was getting a good battery.  Last night I put the brand new battery in the laptop and again it will not boot with the battery in. To be clear.  The laptop works fine when it is either docked or plugged in with the battery not installed.  The problem is only when the battery is in the laptop.  It blinks once and then shuts right back down.  I know the battery is good since I bought the brand new one directly from Lenovo.   Any suggestions?

Hi Guys,First off, thank you for this very wonderful resource. Now, I will try to make this short and simple and hope someone can help me out.I currently am using a T430s which I ordered a Sierra MC7550 (GOBI 4000) mini PCI card for to have internet (4G) on the go via verizon.I followed all instructions and installed the card without any issue. I booted the notebook and notice a little popup in my tool tray that said the hardware was not successfully installed. I then tried using System update to install the driver which seemed to have installed everything successfully. I opened my network connections and still didn't see the new device so I decided to open up device manager and saw that something was wrong. The MC7750 was listed under "Other devices" instead of "Networking" and had the yellow exclamation point next to it.Currently the exact error is as follows:The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.I tried manually downloading/installing the driver from Lenovo's site, using System update, manually pointing to the downloaded driver's path and nothing seems to fix it.I am hoping someone could help me here. I'm not sure if this is Lenovo branded or not however I'm not getting any BIOS errors upon boot. I'm running the latest BIOS and Windows 7 Pro 64bit.There's not much information on this card via the net and I assume this is because of it... Read more

UPDATE: After hours and hours of research and contacting lenovo support via phone to no avail I decided to install the MC770 driver (same device, but for AT&T) and downloaded the installation file from AT&T and VIOLA! It installed and I was able to see it in my device manager under Network adapters.I'm not sure if its fully working yet because I had no idea I needed a sim card.. I thought i could just call up verizon with my IEMI number and have it activated... either way I consider this one step closer and it leads me to believe that something is up with the driver download from LENOVO. Also, could I buy a prepaid Verizon sim card and use it in here or? IF this works fully and flawlessy, I hope this helps someone to prevent them from going through what I went through. Hopefully Lenovo updates their drivers.*** I ask that you guys still kindly reply to let me know if I am missing something here. Thanks.

The trackpad drivers will not install with the latest 10 build version. you can only move the cursor with the trackpad, gestures and buttons do not work. I am going to give up on windows 10 if I can not find a solution fast. Phone support has been all but worthless from lenovo. This machine is only out of warranty for 3 months, I find it kind of silly that you can get no phone help when you tell them its a driver issue and all your asking is will there be an update for the driver or should I just give up. Why not have a way for techs to get this information to the department that could fix this instead of dismissing me as a customer who is out of warranty. I find it ridicoulous that windows updates cause drivers to fail and how microsoft forces windows 10 and its customers to use windows 10. If lenovo is not going to support windows 10 on older machines they should have a bulletin about it so that users dont get frustrated about the expierence. I have attached a pic of the failed driver install?

As this is my first post,  Hello all! I'm a longtime Thinkpad user, appreciating my previous T60 and T400 for their repairability and durability.  I've just bought a used thinkpad t430s, and I bought a battery for it as it didn't come with one. My issue is, the battery worked fine the first couple times I used it, but now it drains instantly if I unplug from the wall. After I restart the machine, the battery says 0% (charging), and after a short while (10+ minutes) returns to claiming fully charged (100%). So far, I have updated the bios, installed the lenovo power management software, installed the lenovo power management driver, tried removing the microsoft acpi driver without the battery in, then turning off and trying to start on battery  (no luck turns off immediately as well, critical low battery error). I also did this thing someone recommended for battery trouble where you shut down the computer and remove the power sources, then hold down the power button for a minute. The battery health is good, it has had three charge cycles, and this number isn't going up with my little drop downs to 0% and back up to 100% whenever I unplug the machine. I would like help in figuring out if this is a problem with the battery, hardware, or software of the computer. I am running windows 7 pro 64 SP1. i7-3520M @2.9ghz. Thanks in advance!  Ryan

Also, as your OS is win7 and I hope Lenovo Power Manager application is installed, what are the values of the second half of the battery parameters (manufacturer name and followed) PM shows in the Battery tab? Make a snapshot as well.Answers and images are needed to understand whether the battery is faked since the battery for T430 should have HW authentication.

Or could it be a software issue... any help would be hugely appreciated. One of the main reasons I acquired this laptop was the use of the ultrabay batteries. Thanks

Have been happily running windows 10 - with dual monitors, but since a recent update, the system once re-docked will no longer re-detect that it using different monitors. Previously i could use it:1. Un-docked - at 1600 x 9002. then when i put it to sleep3. Then dock it and resumed:     it would     a) switch to 1920 x 1080, and     b) also detect and display on the second monitor - no intervention required. Now, it remains in it's prior "state" (it neither changes state nor outputs to the second monitor) - only outputting to the first external monitor - but at 1600 x 900. Thus since a recent change, it is not "re-detecting" the "change in state" on resume, ONLY when i now do a full restart. The update may have been a Windows update, but on the same day i also installed a Toshiba Dynadock - with dual display port support. I have used the Lenovo system update to update the driver - now it is at 10.18.10.4425 - and as the driver loaded the monitors re-detected, and corrected - but later the problem is persisting. Does anyone know how to force the driver to re-detect on resume not just on restart? Hi,
Sorry if someone had answered this question before but I'm new here.
I have an IBM ThinkPad T22 and recently experienced this strange problem: The battery works alright but it doesn't charge even though the LED blinking as if it is being charged and when the system was poweroff and I unplugged the AC adapter then the LED indicating battery was still lit although it was supposed to turn off. To really turn that LED off I had to remove the battery pack. I discharged the battery completely and it's not charged any more
(0% charged) and now I have to use my laptop as if it is a desktop (with power plugged all the time). I would be grateful if you have any suggestion since I believe that the battery is still working pretty well.

Hy!I've used my Thinkpad T420 battery charge mode with custom settings: Start charging when below 95% and Stop charging at 99%. Because the battery effectively has never charged full, it cause sudden capacity decreases (for example from 30% discharging to 7%). I got bored to this and changed to automatically optimize battery lifespan. I noticed that every full charge the "Full charge capacity" value decreases. I have charged it 5 times after this settings, and the remaining capacity looks like this: 57.10Wh, 57.05Wh, 57.00Wh, 56.95Wh, 56.85Wh. Is it normal? Is it possible that this setting will kill my battery?

I still lose  the battery charge. Specifically to investigate the issure I'm leaving the notebook for few days closed laying around aside and then turning it on. Last time I did it the battery was entirely dry - I received a bios warning with the beep about critical battery level and computer didn't turn on normally untill I pluugged the power cable. This shows that battery charge loss is significant and out of control. Extremely frustrated that such a premium computer I bought for traveling and long-lasting off-home usage has battery issure of that kind and can't provide longevity and service it was bought for.Diagnostic tool shows the battery is almost new, 99% of health. Some screenshots with the battery information are attached. My specs are Windows 10 1903, 256gb 2,5'' SSD, 8GB RAM, i7 5600U CPU. I saw quite a few forum posts about similar issure with other models as well, and there were different bios fixes and updates solving the issure (for the most part). Maybe there is something systematic is going on and must be taken into a closer look and serious consideration? I really hope engineers will investigate the issure and release a fix for that model as well, because... Read more

X1 Carbon 6th Gen - (Type 20KH, 20KG) Laptop (ThinkPad) on ThinkPad Pro Dock.  I have a secondary display (connected with DisplayPort).  When the battery is charging, the secondary display works properly.  As soon as the battery is fully charged (100%), the secondary display disconnects and goes black (no signal detected).  The power is still on the the display.  The only way to get the secondary display to reconnect is to unplug the power supply from the dock, then plug it in again.  Has anyone else experienced this?

I contacted Lenovol support and they send me a replacement unit. The the replacement unit has the same problem. Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.  I need to plug in the power adapter for both docking station and notebook.  Does anybody have similiar problem?

A:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

Hello!  I am seeking the sage wisdom of veteran thinkpad owners for an upcoming purchase.  I am considering an x250 (i5, 256 ssd, 8gb, 1080P ips non touch, with nothing but a fresh install of Windows 10 pro 64 bit and MS office pro plus) to use for the next two years while I complete a degree(mostly paper writing, web browsing, netflix/youtube etc..nothing heavy). I prioritize a good keyboard, good battery life, light weight(under 3lbs), durability, and saving money if possible.  With that said, I can't deal with laggy performance and lackluster battery life. I "could" buy a new laptop, but am having a hard time justifying spending that much since my usage is so light.  My previous laptop was a macbook air and it served me well, but the keyboard never really impressed me. I sold it, bought a nice Chromebook(12.5 inch screen) and pocketed the change. I have not had a "real" computer for a few years now and it's time.  What say you? 1) Will the above spec x250 provide me with decent performance/battery life for the next two years?1a) What kind of battery life can I expect with this setup and a flush battery?  2) Any other recomendations? I really like the X1 carbon, but the price is tough to swallow with all the issues I am seeing. However, that larger screen sure would be nice on the eyes. 3) Though I would prefer to not get another macbook, with the rumored update to the macbook air right around the corner said to be arou... I have a ThinkPad T450 with a built-in and external batteries.  Is there a setting in the BIOS or in the Lenovo suite of software where one could set how the batteries behave when they're being used? I'd like for the external battery to drain first so that I could then switch it for a different one before using the internal one.  It's always easier to replace the external battery vs. having to remove the bottom case entirely to access the internal one.

I recently purchased a T460 with an Ultradock 90w and when the notebook is docked it only shows battery 1 (internal) as charging. Battery 2 is not being used but it is not charging either and it is very very slowly discharging (about 3% over the last few days). If I plug the Thinkpad into its normal power supply outside of the dock both batteries charge (one at a time). Is this normal behavior or is there something wrong with my dock?
