add/remove buttons

Q: add/remove buttons

I just recently noticed a problem I'm having. I'm using Windows XP Pro. When I go to add/remove programs via the control panel, all of the change/remove buttons have disappeared. In other words, the list of installed programs are there but the buttons to uninstall them are not. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Preferred Solution: add/remove buttons

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I opened the Add and Remove Program utiltiy in Control panel to remove a
program and am surprised to see that every one of the program entires is missing the
"change" or "Remove" option buttons. Whenever I select any program from the
list, those option buttons do not show up at all, only the program name, file
size, and date last used. I cannot change or remove any program! I am running
Windows XP Home edition and just recently installed ZoneAlarm Internet
Security Suite, so I tried removing ZoneAlram, but that did not help, still no
"change" or "remove" buttons visible under any program entry. Its like something
wiped out or, disabled the add/remove programs utility from showing those option buttons.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Have you tried using System Restore to return to a previous state before your problems began? Also see: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htmScroll down to #337 and click "Restore Change or Remove Programs" in the right column.or "Add/Remove Programs list are missing Change and Remove buttons"http://www.winxptutor.com/arpbuttons.htmThis involves making changes in the registry. Always back up your registry before making any changes. If you are not familiar with working in the registry, then you should NOT attempt to make any changes on your own. Improper changes to the registry could adversely affect your computer and render it inoperable.

An unfortunate software removal consequence has occurred and I have been searching a solution. What I have discovered so far?The Change/Remove button for existing programs on the machine at the time of the software removal have disappeared. I am at the point of locating missing registry key info. When I go to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall. All of the programs on the machine at the time of software removal are not listed. I do not have a backup of the registry. Any suggestions of how to repopulate the list?

My laptop is missing lots of programs under Add/Remove Programs that I know are installed. Furthermore, some that are listed don't have the Remove button next to it. The missing programs aren't listed in the Uninstall registry key and I'm confident there are not viruses on the machine.

Any idea how to fix this? I don't think a System Restore will help as this machine probably has had this issue for quite some time now.

Hello everyone!

A few days ago, I had some problems with a virus and malware, and one your friends helped me to resolve the issue. The details are here in case you'd like to see:

After that, in order to make sure the problem doesn't happen again, among other things, I ran Secunia OSI. It identified several programs as insecure and asked me to update them (Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, and a few others). Since some wouldn't upgrade automatically to the newer versions I started removing them through Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. After I removed ZoneAlarm, the Change/Remove buttons all disappeared. To resolve this, I looked around, and one of the suggestions people had made was to save the file in line 337, second column, located in this page: www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and clicking on it.

I saved the linked .reg file, and clicked on it. It just opened with NotePad and nothing else happened.

I reinstalled one of the programs that I had uninstalled (Adobe Flash), and that one has now the Remove button in front of it, but the others still don't have the buttons.

I'll greatly appreciate any comments or suggestions you might have.

P.S. Sorry for the links. I tried to remove the hyperlinks, but they keep coming back even when I disable "Automatically parse links in text".

I went to remove the Jasc Paint Shop program that came with my computer (because it has expired, and is apparently the default program so we have a problem opening any photos), and there is a HUGE gap in my add remove programs (between one program and another - pages of blank space) and the remove/change buttons are missing. It also looks like the 'how often used' things are wrong.

I have updated and ran my anti-virus, I run adaware every day and clear my cache every day.

I have just ordered AutoCAD ADT 2007 Student version and want to be sure all is cool with my system before I install it.

There is nothing wrong with your logs. They are fine.See if this works for you......

1.) Go to your /WINDOWS/Resources/Themes directory, or wherever you may have your themes located.

2.) Go into the directory of the theme your currently using.
Example: Using 'Semplice' by KoL? Navigate to /WINDOWS/Resources/Themes/Semplice

3.) Go into the folder called 'Shell" within the previous directory.

4.) Inside you'll find a folder with a file called 'shellstyle.dll' inside. Now remember the name of the theme your using? (Example: Semplice). You need to rename this folder from Shell to the name of the theme your currently using. If you don't know the exact name, go to Display Properties, and try to Display/Show the theme, the name you see in Display Properties is the name you need to change the 'Shell' folder to.
Example: Using Semplice as an example, the Shell folder for that theme is called 'Shell', in this situation you'll need to rename the folder to 'Semplice'. Easy enough, right?
Note that for multi-part themes, aka themes with more than one variation or color, you'll need to rename each corresponding 'Shell' folder to what is displayed in Display Properties when you try to apply the theme.

5.) Now that you've changed the 'Shell' folder name to correspond with the visual styles name, reapply the theme.

6.) Go to Add/Remove Programs and see if there has been a change..

Hi, I just resolved my virus/spyware/trojan issues in the other section on this website and I was wondering if I could get some help on my last two issues. There are three users on this computer, but on only one of them these weird folders show up. On the desktop there is a %USERPROFILE% folder. There is also one just inside the C drive. Is there something screwed up in the registry?

Separate issue is that it seems most of the Add/Remove buttons are missing. Only for recently installed programs do I get the option to remove them. Some show file size too, but most don't show anything at all. What's the deal?

Can anyone help me with these issues? Thanks!

I just noticed a strange problem in Add or Remove Programs. Most, but not all of the items are missing the aforementioned buttons. Since I don't often go to Add or Remove Programs, I don't have a clue as to what or when this started...

I run weekly full virus and spyware scans along w/real-time protection, so I'm pretty sure it's not an infection. Any insight on this one?

hello. i was wondering if there is a way to make this windows button into a gif instead. meaning..you know those buttons right? the grey boring ones that say "submit" or whatever.

i have been able to customise one with css to try and match my site. but i still dont like it. main the text doesnt match.

so i'm wondering if there is a way i can make it so i dont have to use a button, and i can use a gif instead.

heres the code i have right now that i'm using.

its the little google thingey they allow you to add to your site.

i have managed to customise it to look like this.

it doesnt show much something odd with host but you can kinda see what i did.

i replaced the yukey old google gif with one of my own and tried to do the same with the button that says "google search" however i can't so i tried editing with css but it just doesnt match like i'd like it to. so i'm just wondering if theres a way i can just use a simple img src code and put in a gif or jpb and it would still work like a butt... ok, a few things:
1. yes you can do this by using: input name="Submit" type="image" src="yourGifLocationHere"

2. This only works with single buttons. If you wanted to have both a submit button and a clear button you would have to use JS to get both to work.

3. It must be in a form tag to work. But it should already be in a form tag.

Hi aca85, you want to activate 3d flip without touching the keyboard ? yes, it is possible . Dunno why anybody else suggested this to you till then .

1. Right click on desktop > new > shortcut
2. In the new shortcut box, type
%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe DwmApi #105 ( copy and paste)
3. Click next, then click finish.
Double click on it and see what happens

Wanna change the icon like that in vista?
1. Right click on the new shortcut ( shown as rundll32) > properties> change icon
2. In the look ofr icon ... box, write %systemroot%\explorer.exe and hit enter
3. Select the fifth icon in third row. Ok ,apply ,ok.

Place in taskbar? Just right click > pin to taaskbar.

If this is what you want Then you should have replied wihhin this time, I think I am describing another process. It's so common

Fkeys functions are assigned by individual applications. For example, in many point/click adventure games, F5 is the "Quicksave" button while F1 is the standar button to launch a "Help" screen.

They also serve different fuctions on boot up depending on your system manufacturer.

A:Ie Buttons Greyed Out

Since it's occurring over the different sites that you support, then I'd guess that it was something that each site has in common. Perhaps a registry edit or a Group Policy setting?

Try reinstalling SP2 on the systems to see if it clears up the issue. Or, try installing IE7 to see if that fixes it (you can uninstall it and revert back to IE6 fairly easily).

I can't find anywhere what the little  buttons on the underside of the monitor are supposed to control (except the on/off button). On the computer itself I don't understand the symbols and slots and what they mean also. Can anyone direct me to a source to just understand the computer and monitor layout? Thank you.

I have a Presario with Windows XP. I have a row of shortcut buttons on the keyboard that just stopped working. I checked the keyboard properties/buttons, and the addresses are still there. I uninstalled the keyboard software and rebooted. I reinstalled the driver and restarted, but I still have the problem. The rest of the keyboard seems ok.

I checked device status a it says Device is working properly.
Anything else I could try?
