M93p Tiny BIOS FBKTD2A is broken - bad BIOS update on website

Q: M93p Tiny BIOS FBKTD2A is broken - bad BIOS update on website

Link to the BIOS update with issue: https://support.lenovo.com/il/en/downloads/ds035753 I don't know what Lenovo's QA process is, but it's worse than Microsoft's because this update has been a mess for me. So far the update has failed on 3 of 4 systems I've installed it on. On the systems where it has failed, I tried using the Windows package twice, and the USB package once. During the Embedded Controller Firmware update, the update gets stuck in a loop, failing verification. This can go on for hours, and the only option is to terminate the batch job and start it again. After restarting the Flash.cmd update, the process begins by skipping over the EC update, and goes straight to flashing the BIOS. The BIOS does program, however when it gets to the screen where it says "The BIOS update process will continue after system reboot" the process fails with "Error: Secure Flash function is not supported on this platform" When rebooting, Windows then hangs for about 30 seconds while booting, which it did not do before. Once in Windows, the Device Manager shows that there is a Generic USB Hub with an "invalid device descriptor" with Code 43. Obviously, I have not been doing anything wrong. I've updated dozens of M73 systems with no issues. This M93p update is the only one that is giving me issues, and I don't know what else to do to fix it. Unfortunately, all of these systems are out of warranty, otherwise I'd RMA all of them due to Lenovo's horrible failure. But I'm hoping that there is at least potential for this issue to be fixed with another patch. Here are two other users with the same problems, yet still no reply from Lenovo almost 12 months later.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/M83-SFF-fails-to-flash-the-latest-BIOS-error...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/How-to-force-the-programming-of-Embedded-Con...

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello all, I have recently received an M93P Tiny from a friend which was to be thrown out simply due to his company upgrading their PC's. It worked at first, however, the fan was going super sonic speeds, which was causing the computer to BSoD in Windows 10 which I had installed on an SSD. I read somewhere that the first models of this computer had that problem, however, I figured the problem might be the CPU probably just needed some thermal paste. I figured before I do that, I should do an update, hoping it wouldn't fail... It BSoD'd right in the middle of the bios update. Something told me I should have just done it in the BIOS rather than Windows, but I did anyway and it failed. Now I can't start the computer at all. Well, it starts, and it turns off right before getting to the bios, so I can't do anything in post at all, it will always reset right before I get to the screen and loop. I changed the jumpers around many times, cleared CMOS, removed battery ETC. No go. I heard there was a recovery method using a disk, but I do not have access to a disc drive, as this is a tiny PC. I have the bios on a flash drive, but obviously since I can't get to any menus, I can't choose where to boot from. Can anyone lend some assistance? I know it can't be dead, it stays on if I switch the jumper to one of the other two positions, but I get no post from them. In fact, it's strange because originally, if looking at the motherboard from the front, it seemed t... We've just applied this BIOS update (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035753) on 4 M93p Tiny machines. 1 of the machines is getting a blinking cursor at boot up (bricked?)3 of the machines can no longer boot to the hard drive. In the 3 machines that are not seeing the hard drive to boot, they occasionally show in the BIOS boot order, but when you try to include them in the boot order they disappear. Hard drives are a recently Windows 7 64-bit image that worked before BIOS update. If we network boot into a PE we can see the hard drive contents. Called Lenovo support but got bounced around... any one see any issues like this?

Hi, I have an issue to update BIOS of my M93p Desktops by an USB Key, I create a DOS Bootable USB Key with the software Rufus (FreeDos) and I copy all files of the flash update program in FBJTxxUSA.ZIP to my DOS bootable memory key. I powered up the system and made sure that my device with the flash program is selected as a boot device.  When I ran the Bios update, I have this error message :I tried with the Bios update by Bootable CD, I have the same issue. Could you help me to find a solution, I can not use the Windows Flash tool, I must use an USB Bios update. Thank you for your help.

At the very bottom of the BIOS support page for your system are links to the previous version, try upgrading to it, then to the latest.

Also, please check your model number, there is no M96p.

Hey everyone,  I sincerely hope there is someone around who can help me with this problem, as clicking "contact lenovo support" does not provide any actual contact method with Lenovo support personnel   So the story:I bought one of the desktops that were being offered for sale at my company. These guys came off duty in January, and had warranty and support till March of this year, but they took their sweet time wiping them, so I only received mine now. When I went to install windows, I went into the bios to set the usb stick boot priority, and found the bios screen was in shambles. It was working, and all text was legible, but it looked like a text file opened with the wrong format in an ancient version of Word or something. This was somewhat of a concern, but the machine seemed to be working fine, and windows 7 64 bit installed without a hitch (aside from needing a days worth of updates and a ton of lenovo drivers). So after the first wave of windows updates, I got the service bridge installed, and had Lenovo System Update take care of all drivers and suggested updates. All succeeded, except for the BIOS flashing! The flashing window came up, started doing it's thing, then quit before I could read any errors. I believe the error was Child Process error 16. No matter what I did, it did not work.At that point it was late in the PM, so I just gave up and let windows do all the remaining updates instead of messing more with it.Day 2, Windows fully up... Hello All, I've had my Lenovo M29p Tiny for a few months, I have it in our camper, and it doesn't get a lot of use. I was advised by the Lenovo Software that I needed to update my Bios, when I came back to the machine a couple hours later, it was turned on but without display.  I forced rebooted it, and the power LED comes on and the disk activity blinks, but theres no activity on the monitor. No beep, no post, no logo, nothing. Fan comes on, LEDs, and thats it.I tried power cycling the bios, removing battery, both VGA and Display Port cables, and the steps listed here:https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht077504Does anyone have any recovery tips? Thanks.

Problem solved toay,You need to open your machine. Find the cmos clear jumpers.Move the little cup from positions 1-2 to 2-3. Unplug Hard Disk. Close the machine. Insert a portable USB DVD to a usb port (have a copy of the new bios on the cd) and turn on your machine. It will boot from USB DVD drive and it will load the new bios. Machine will shut down after the new bios update. Open agin the machine, plug the Hard Disk and put back the jumpers to 1-2 position. Unplug USB DVD and it will boot from Hard Disk. That's all. IN OTHER WORDS: Bios update can be done if first you change the jumpers on motherboard.

Hi! Have got around 200 M73 Tiny nettops running by production users.Currently installed BIOS versions are 58 and 61.We need to update all of them to latest BIOS version 76 due to fixing recent Spectre vulnerability. We need to do this via SCCM.Tested this simple script: SPIW032 FHCT36A.bin wflash2.exe imagefh.rom /bb /rsmb /quiet %1 It works, flashes BIOS and reboot machine, however, after the process finishes succesfully, at BIOS loading phase it displays error "0162: Setup data integrity check  failure" It can be manually fixed by pressing F1 to enter Setup and then pressing F10 to save and exit. But for SCCM deployment on 200 machines it is not possible. We can not walk around every machine. And it is not comfortable (e.g. acceptable) if we try to tell our users that next morning they need to press F1 and the F10 to bring their PC back to life. Is there a way to workaround this annoying error?

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... The small fain of the eGPU will spin up but the main unit itself (main fan, lights, etc.) will not spin up at all. Thus far I have...1. Checked BIOS settings (No Security)2. Installed/reinstalled Thunderbolt software & firmware3. Downgraded BIOS to the last two versions and back4. Tested eGPU with work laptop & it functions as expectedI'm running Windows 10 but I believe that the issue is unrelated to Windows 10. The reason is, is that beforehand, when the laptop first boots and is still in the BIOS phase, the eGPU used to fire up immediately (lights & main fan). But I cannot even get that, which tells me the issue is not Windows 10 related.Any other suggestions before I go open a support ticket with Lenovo? I'm still under warranty at least.

I just installed the R01 A3 BIOS update from Acer, and now my HDMI port's audio no longer works. Has anyone else had this problem / know of a solution. Also, if anyone else has an X1200 that they haven't updated yet, would they be willing to make a copy of their BIOS using WinFlash and send it to me so I can downgrade? Acer insists the only way to fix my computer is to mail it to Texas, which I would like to avoid if at all possible.

I would mail the computer. I think Acer knows somethings about this model that you do not, and they are not going to tell, for risk it will get into the media.
Let them fix it right, rather than void your warranty.

I have attempted to update the BIOS of a couple M93p desktops and I have bricked each one. The update begins and then the PC freezes. CAPS Lock light on keyboard does not turn on, mouse does nothing. I let one sit for 11 minutes and then did a hard shut down. When I turned it back on, the power light did not light up. The CD drive spun up as did case fans. I found documentation (that I cannot find, at the moment) which said that, if the power light doesn't work, Boot Block Recovery will not work. I pulled the CMOS battery and let the unit sit overnight but to no avail. These are Win 10 boxes. I am using BIOS version FBKTD1A - flashing from the OS via a WinBatch script that simply kicks off Flash.cmd. Do these PCs need new motherboards or is there a chance to recover them? I see that I am not alone: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Security-Malware/Why-are-so-many-users-experiencing-a-bricked-computer-... Skip

I also tried to remove battery and a.c. power and held the power button for 20 seconds to drain remaining power.None of the aforementioned worked. Any ideas?

Hi I updated my Lenovo ThinkCentre m92p tiny 3237-A1G to the BIOS version 9SKT59A.I use an OCZ SSD with GRUB2 and Linux/Win7 dual boot (GPT/UEFI) without any problem. After the BIOS update there was SecureBoot enabled and I couldn't obviously boot GRUB2.Then I disabled SecureBoot and changed the Boot order, but when I try to include the SSD with x it disappears in the list of the excluded boot devices but don't appear in the included devices. Now I am only able to boot via USB stick where a grub2 is also installed. I am pretty sure this is a BIOS bug!Anyone else can confirm that or solved such a probem? Cheersmijenix

A:M92p Tiny - no Disk boot after update BIOS to 9SKT59A (dual boot Linux/Win7) GPT/EFI

Hello, I also have same problem on Lenovo M92p 3212-BL3 with BIOS version 9SKT39A. I use an OCZ SDD Vertex 2 with Windows 7 x64 only. The SSD disappears from the list on included and excluded boot SATA devices. The SATA ports still appears but with empty device.  It seems BIOS issue, hope Lenovo will fix this issue ASAP.

Hi I was attempting to use the onboard intel graphics and set the video to igp in bios.
Guess what, no video output anywhere ! (not on the GT620 Nvidia card and not on the VGA port of the motherboard).

So it looks like a brick, boots but cannot see a thing.

Any suggestion on how to get out of this trap ?

Note that since I cant see a thing, I cannot get back into the bios to change the parameters back.

Thanks.

A:M93p - no video after BIOS setting change

OK I solved it myself...Get the CD version of the BIOS flash update.Follow the instructions to do the flash update (including moving jumpers around on the motherboard)On first boot after the update, set the video IGD and do not forget to enable multiple monitors. Then both the on board card and the lame GT620 cards will work. The intel 4600 graphics are much better than the GT620.Install the drivers for the interl 4600 on board graphics. A bit scary but with gentle handling it will work. P.S. I cant believe the setup will let you screw up like that with no graphics output available...well it ended well.

Hello, I am looking for a more detailed BIOS changelog for the M93ps we mainly use at our company. Not necessarily as detailed as this post: https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/documents/ht081544 , but certainly more verbose than the recent "[Important] Update includes security fixes." for the last 5 updates ( https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_bios/fbjyccusa.txt ) - especially in the light of the recentish bothering news about dataleaks connected to Lenovo software included with workstations (and mobiles)! Is such a list available somewhere or can anybody shed some light on what exactly have been updated in these 5 recent revisions (and maybe how the problem was solved)? Thanks, Istvan

A:M93P Flash BIOS failure solution

Downoad the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your system.   Look for a section titled:   Recovering from a POST/BIOS update failure.

I have a ThinkCentre M93P with a Nvidia NVS 315 video card intalled and it works fine when I get to the Windows 10 login screen but it does not show the BIOS screen during the initial startup. It only seems to work if I remove the video card and use the built-in video. It currently have it set up to auto-select which video graphics to use. Is this expected behavior? Shouldnt I be able to view BIOS regardless of whether I am using built-in video?

I have this weird problem on my M93p Tower, the post screens will only show when the Pci-e card is physically removed from the tower and via the onboard Display Port. The system works 100% otherwise, it boots into windows etc, I only noticed it when I tried to backup via booting into 3rd recovery media I needed to use F12 boot manager which used to work perfectly a month or 2 back and all I got was a blank screen at Post. I then tried all the different onboard ports VGA/Display Port, still nothing, eventually removed the PCi-e card and only then did the Display Port started showing the Post screens, VGA still nothing. I tried seetting the default display type in the Bios to Pci-e(PEG) or auto and that didn't help, saw there was a new BIOS version FBKTCCAUS released on 21 Nov 2016, installed that but made no difference. What else could be the issue, is the MBB perhaps faulty?

You need to place a voice call to Dell support --- they'll provide you an unlock key upon validation of ownership.

Is it safe to update the bios to that version, is there any disadvantages or slow down the system etc., any new features like a new logo on the POST screen? And how would I revert back to FEKT84BUS?

When installing the FWKT95A BIOS Update on the M900 it prompts you to continue with the message stating that the version you are applying is the same or older then the currently installed version. If I tell it to continue it will install the BIOS and it is the same version as I had before the update (FWKT90A). It looks like the imagefw.rom file was not updated.

A:M900 FWKT95A BIOS Update does not update BIOS Version

Hi Bagel!

Welcome to the community forums.

How are you trying to update the BIOS? Are you trying to install it manually? If yes, could you try to install the update via a Lenovo Vantage app that you can download from here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/lenovo-vantage/9wzdncrfj4mv

Let us know how it goes.
