I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Acer Travelmate 5744z Not booting, No Bios Option

If you put a install disk or system repair disk in the CD/DVD and start, there's a good chance it will boot from the disk. No need to go into Bios.

i am trying to fix my dads laptop. whenever i turn it on it goes into the safe mode option screen. then if i do "start windows normally" then it goes to the windows boot screen and then flashes the blue screen of death for half a second so you cant read it, and then restarts and does the same thing over again. if you go into safe mode then it starts, well, going into safe mode with the white letters and everything. but then it just restarts. if you do "last known goo configuration" then it does the same thing as "start windows normally.

A:Acer Laptop Travelmate 240 booting up problem

Hello Ramesh Suri

I think you will need an XP installation CD to fix this. If you do not have one, borrow one just to run this fix.

Then
Configure your PC to boot from CD if it isn't already set up that way. You may need to enter the BIOS to configure the PC to boot from the CD.
Set the boot order to
Floppy (if present)
CDROM
Hard Disk
SAVE and EXIT

Start your PC with the XP Setup CD in the drive. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD..." prompt, do so and let the CD-based boot process begin.

When the Recovery Console option is offered ("Press R to start the Recovery Console"), do so. You may be asked which Windows installation to enter, in which case type the number of the Windows installation you wish to work on (usually "1").

When prompted, enter the Administrator's password for that Windows installation. If you did not set a password just press ENTER

At the command prompt, type
Bootcfg /Rebuild
ENTER

The exact wording will depend on your setup, but after a few moments you'll see a prompt that says something like:
Total Identified Windows Installs: 1
[1] C:\Windows
Add Installation To Boot List?

Assuming the information you see is correct, enter
Y
Bootcfg will start the process of rebuilding the boot list to include the indicated Windows installation

After a moment, you'll be asked to "Enter Load Identifier."
This is the name of the operating system that will appear in boot me... Read more

Hi

I have an Acer Travelmate 6492 laptop.

I tried to recover my original system, for that I went to eRecovery and choose the option to restore the laptop to the factory settings.

After that it restarted and from there I'm not able to boot.

I have my recovery DVD's. I have already tried to boot with them. Everything goes fine, it installs the system and everything. But when it restarts it just doesn't boot. After the screen that shows the CPU information, etc. I just receive a blank screen nothing else.

I have tried also booting with Ubuntu. Did some lilo stuff to repair the MBR. I have tried booting with Win7 also and tried to repair the MBR but nothing seems to work.

I hope there is someone there who can help me!

Hi Guys and Gals.

Long story short I updated my acer travelmat 6593 from bios 1.11 to 1.20 all went well every thing worked as it should ) I upgraded the ram with a new 2gb module. Now the bios and windows only see 2gb of ram. The laptop wont boot with the ram in 2/3 slot ive swapped them around and they both work in the 0/1 slot. Is it possible it could be a ram problem ? If so how do i backdate the bios?
I am running windows 7 ultimate 64bit or mint mate 14 64bit.
Thanks in in advance for any help.

I have a CD drive in an external enclosure. I have plugged it into a working computer to make sure it works.

However, when plugged into the TravelMate, it does not boot from it. In the BIOS I have set boot priority to "Removable Device" then "CD drive" then "hard disk".

The reason I need the external drive in the first place is that the travelmate's cd drive is broken.

Windows cannot boot. There is a blue screen immediately upon startup. Only thing I can do is get into the BIOS.

I'm trying to reinstall Windows.

I fear that the BIOS may not support USB device booting, and paradoxically I have no way of updating the BIOS without booting from something other than the hard drive.

Hello Tech Support,
I own an Acer V Nitro VN7-591G, the bios version is v1.15 the latest off of the support page.  I'm having a problem configuring the bios to boot straight from an M.2 SSD drive.  I have a feeling that this is a bug in the bios because phone support wasn't able to fix this problem - ticket support # ***.  I've also read about people having the same issue that I have.  Here's my setup:

This laptop came with a 1TB 2.5" HDD.  I then installed a Crucial 275GB M.2 SSD to the M.2 slot and cloned the 1TB 2.5" HDD to it.  I then partitioned the 1TB HDD Windows 10 installation to the same size as the Crucial drive to keep as an internal backup of the OS, and partitioned the rest of the 1TB hard drive to use as storage.  So, I want to use the M.2 SSD as my boot/system drive and use the second storage partition of the 1TB hard drive as well, then keep the first partition of the M.2 SSD as a backup that I can boot from if needed or clone to another M.2 SSD if the one I have fails.

So, in the v1.15 bios, I choose UEFI and set the boot order to have the Crucial M.2 SSD first in the list.  The laptop will not boot the M.2 SSD first directly from the bios no matter what I do, I've tried every setting, including restoring defaults and restoring boot defaults.  If I hold F12 down on startup and select the Crucial M.2 SSD drive it boots from the M.2 SSD as it should and loads windows off of the M.2 SSD&nbs... Hi All.

I have owned a Travelmate 290 for 3 years. I have not had any trouble with it in that time until now. The lap top will run for a time then the screen will start to flicker, the touchpad will become erratic and the HDD light will come on. Sometimes after a few minutes the laptop will return to normal, sometimes it will lock up with the HDD light on and the power light off (The laptop lives mainly on the mains but these symptoms also occur when it is on battery power). The only way to get out of this situation is to unplug the power supply and remove the battery. I have scanned the laptop for viruses and spyware. None were found.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in Advance

Anthony

3 suggestions:

1) Monitor your CPU/MB/HDD temperatures. It could be overheating.
2) Check the Event Viewer in Windows
3) Get Process Explorer. See what is taking up your CPU during the problem.

Process Explorer is free:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/processexplorer.mspx

Speed Fan is free (temp monitoring):
http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

Come back and post any significant warnings in Event Viewer, what is using all your CPU (if anything) during the issue, and your temperatures.

Hello well i'll get straight to the point, my friend has a laptop which is broken. it is running windows xp service pack 2, and it is a acer travel mate 2420, it has been dropped on the floor but it still switches on but it goes straight to the boot screen where you can choose from safe mode , safe mode with networking etc. if you press either of these options it just freezes and does noting at all. you cant reconfigure to a last known good configuration either. I tried everything, i was thinking maybe i could change the boot sequence and make it boot from CD first and then use a windows XP cd to reformatt it, but it has a password on the BIOS settings so i cannot change it just yet, but what i wanted to know is would changing the boot sequence help me? i tried putting the windows xp cd disc in when you switch it on but it doesnt load up..
well i would appreciate any advice from you guys =]

-Adam-

A:ACER TravelMate 2420 *HELP*

changing boot settings will only allow you to boot to another device first.

10 to 1 the hard drive got ruined when the laptop was dropped, especially if it was running while it was dropped. The platters in the hard drive spin at about 5400 RPM's and the read/write heads basically float over the platters, believe about 50nm's. in other words imagine a plane flying at about a million miles an hour at an altitude of 50 feet....and then you get dropped, you just left a nice long gash that nothing can live in again (data on the hard drive)

you can run a diagnostic test on the hard drive to be sure.

but to get it to boot from the cd, just need to push the right key to open the boot selection menu when its loading the bios. F12 on most laptops, but forgot on acers, might be F11

Highly unlikely that a full system disk would be available for download.

Individual driver files for audio, video etc would be available on the makers website most likely but not the Windows system itself.

Probably referring to the SATA driver, which you should be able to get from Acer. If you can find it just put it on a USB key (if you have one) and when you get o the part in the install when it asks about installing drivers point it at the USB key.

Please...do not interrupt the system anytime that a chkdsk is in progress.

Leave the system alone...when the system has file problems or the hard drive or partition is fouled up...it's normal for the chkdsk to go back toan earlier stage, IME.

When the chkdsk is finished and the system boots into Windows...I suggest that you do the following:

a. Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter.

b. Type Y in new screen and hit Enter.

c. Reboot the system. The chkdsk /r command will run to completion...before booting into Windows.

I was planning to get a laptop but due to budget constraint I have kind of decided on Acer Travelmate 4335. But I wish to install Vista on it rather than the Linux it comes with. My problem is I am not quite sure about the built in graphics card it comes with. I don't need a very high end graphics card, but I won't like it to be the same as my age old desktop (which can't run vista aero). So if anyone is using this laptop on Vista, pls let me know how does it perform ...

A:Acer Travelmate 4335

Vista will slow that machine down far too much. XP would be a far better choice for an OS on that machine. Vista is a resource hog, and that laptop isn't going to do well with it.

I have an Acer Travelmate 5730 laptop that won't switch on. The battery and power unit are both working. When I push the power button, with the adapter plugged in, the green battery light goes out momentarily then relights. With adapter unplugged nothing happens except sometimes the power light ( orange ) flashes once. I feel that there is a short circuit somewhere and the motherboard may be dead. Has anyone had a similar problem?

A:Acer Travelmate 5730 Won't Power Up.

remove battery and try to boot up with it plugged in.

Check to see if the the little pin in the plug where the power adapter goes into is lose. Take a small screwdriver and lightly touch it. It should not move... if it does move it very well could be from that and your battery is just dead (not charged) which is why its not turning on.
