I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I had a bad redirect virus a week or so ago. Ran all the correct software and got rid of it. I am now having problems with opening links. When I click on a link in my email (I have windows 10) instead of opening them, I get a pop up that says I need a new app to open HTTPS. When I click on the store to find a new app these are the options I get: Loadkit Download Manager, Turn off lights, Sidekick private browser, Webaccess and No trace left behind. I did try a system restore but it still continued to do this. I use Chrome as my main browswer but this morning when I clicked on my microsoft edge icon on my task bar it was redirecting me to my document folder. I don't think it's the virus but I am not entirely sure. That's why I posted here instead of the Web Browsing/Email. Any help would be appreciated. I am sure it is something simple but I am at a loss. (Specs: HP15 laptop, touch screen, windows 10)
-I have also discovered that I cannot set a default browser without it saying to download a new app to do that. It also says to find a new app when I attempt to connect to a Wi-Fi that is not my home network.

I was online last night and for no apparant reason, my router was *tripped* up by something. The only thing that I did when this happened was when I tried to close the Search tool which somehow opened. Now I cannot connect to the router to check its configuration. My original IP address for the router,, is no longer valid and if i use the default, it comes up with Firmware Upgrade page and thats it. No web-based configuration page. I tried resetting the router and still get the firmware upgrade page. I have already upgraded the firmware.

The router is only 2 months old. Falling short of sending to D-Link, is there anything else that I can try? I can ping the router but timed out on pinging the other client machine. I will double check to make sure that both machines are on the same network address.

Hi everyone. I have a problem. I tried to go to a web page in Internet Explorer because it wouldn't work in Firefox. Well, when I typed in the web page address on Internet Explorer and hit the Enter button, it went to Firefox and proceeded to load the page in Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Firefox is set as my default browser. I have Internet Explorer 6.0 and Firefox 3.0.1. The main problem with this is that I cannot download Internet Explorer 7.0 or 8.0 because I can't go to the Windows Update site. As you know, Firefox is incompatible with Windows Update. So, if you all could please help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Today Sept 10, 2015,  your staff member Angoid referred me to this forum.
The following is a narrative that occurred yesterday Sept 9 or the day before.  The computer used is a February manufactured Lenovo laptop with a Windows 8.1 OS and a Chrome browser is being used. Purchased in May, it had been carefully gone through to clean it of much bloatware, and arguably suspicious malware.
While in web mail, mail was opened before identifying later it was not from the assumed, trusted sender, AND a link within the text of the email was clicked on.  The site the link was associated with had more links, but none were clicked on there. Besides the unwanted email address of the sender, there was other obvious evidence it was illicit email such as off beat content, and similarly so the web site that the clicked-on link was associated with.
Results:  The web email was signed off and shortly later signed on to in order to get to the Inbox.  The https in the address window of the signed on to email inbox has a red, diagonal line across it. Just the https has this. Normal functioning inside the email was possible.   After signing off, another (clean) computer was used to open the same email account and experienced no red, diagonal line across the https.  The first computer continues to have the red, diagonal line across the https.  Care has been taken not to sign into bank accounts or on line shopping, etc.

I am currently using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and IE11.0.9600.18282. I have Google.com savedin my favorites bar as I prefer to search using Google instead of Bing.Recently, I noticed that when clicking on anyGoogle result link that does not contain https I am redirected to a "Thispage can't be displayed" error message. If I then go into the address bar and change the http to https then thepage loads normally. Ironically, after loading the page, the address bar shows the http version of the page and not the https version.

For example, if type "cats" in the Google searchbar, the third entry down is a link to www/vetstreet.com/cats/. Clicking that link opens a "This page can?tbe displayed" error.Changing thesearch string result in the address bar (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...22129774,d.eWE)from http to https loads the page correctly. Once loaded the address bar reads: Complete Guide to Caring for Cats | Cat Breed Information, Cat Training, Cat Grooming. The https required to load the page from the Google link is not shown in the address bar.

Short of using Google Chrome, is there a way in my versionof IE 11 to get Google search results, that don't automatically include thesecure https in the search result links, to automatically and correctly loadhttp pages without manually having to correct to the https protocol?

Any help solving this would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if I need to provide additionalinformation.T... Read more

Hi guys and gals,

New to this forum, so I hope it the right place for and way of explaining this problem.

I just bought my first PC, which is pretty awesome after having worked on laptops for years.
Here is the configuration:
- i7 4790K
- MSI Z97 Gaming 5
- MSI GTX 980
- Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 16GB 1600 MHz CL9
- Corsair RM750
- Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD

This is also my first system with Windows 8.

Now here is the problem:
After installing my favorite browser Firefox, for some reason it won't load google.com properly.
It automatically tries to load the https version of google, which makes sense.
But it gives my the "Untrusted connection error" (but then in Dutch, so I hope it is correctly translated).
When I delete the "s" and try http it loads fine, but then my search results are different from my laptop with Windows 7 and only the categories "Web" and "Images" are shown.
The same happens in Internet Explorer.

I have tried the solutions as described on the Mozilla support pages, but without any luck.

I hope someone on this forum can help me out.

Thanks in advance and best regards,

I've had a strange issue that may have been caused by upgrading to Noscript 5.1.6. I closed my Firefox earlier today and shortly afterwards re-opened it, with the notification that Noscript had updated. However I found that many other websites had become inaccessible. Paypal.com brought up a screen with a message like "found, return to gb/home", www.bbc.co.uk gave a "301 moved permanently" message, and many other websites only opened as blank pages. Closing and re-opening the browser several times did not fix the problem. My first suspicion was that Noscript's update had caused an issue, so I disabled it, which fixed the issue immediately. After re-enabling it there was still no problem.
In retrospect the URLs I was using were missing the "HTTPS" prefix that is automatically added (my link to "www.bbc.co.uk" ordinarily sends me to "https://www.bbc.co.uk/", "paypal.com" to "https://www.paypal.com/gb/home", etc), which makes me wonder if there was an issue with redirects.
Oddly, one website that loaded fine when all others I tried failed - https://www.redlettermedia.com/ - now returns a "Secure Connection Failed" message - "SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length." Notably, this also happens when I try and access it on my phone, outside of my home network.
I've run a scan with MBAM for good measure, which turned up nothing. The problem appears to be fixed apart from that one website; can anyone shed some light as to what may have happene... Read more

Where's NoScript for Firefox 57 "Quantum"?

2017-11-14: We're working hard to make NoScript for Quantum available to you as soon as possible, definitely by the end of this week.
Please be patient: if you feel naked while you're waiting for the "brand new" NoScript, you can still use the "regular" NoScript 5.x (and all the other extensions of yours) on Firefox 52 ESR, which will receive security updates until June 2018. See you soon!
EDIT: Redlettermedia is not a secure site. I just went to it with no problem using Firefox 56 and NoScript enabled. I'm not
updating to 57 until NoScript is compatible. I did look at the scripting being blocked and didn't see anything malicious on
the redlettermedia.com home page.

Source--------- http://www.ghacks.net/2014/10/31/avasts-https-scanning-interferes-with-firefox-and-other-programs/
Avast released its 2015 lineup recently and one of the new features that all of its antivirus programs ship with is HTTPS Scanning.

It enables the program to detect and decrypt protected traffic using its web filtering component. This alone is highly problematic considering that the program is tapping right into protected data streams but the current implementation is causing all kinds of issues on top of that.

Firefox users for example may notice that the browser won't close anymore because of Avast's HTTPS Scanning feature. This may not happen all the time when Firefox is closed but users reported that it is happening frequently.

That's however not the only issue that Firefox users may experience if Avast is installed on the computer system the browser is running on.

Firefox's add-on update check may be blocked by the security software as well.

The Mozilla Firefox web browser is not the only program that is affected by issues though. Spotify's Web Player may not be able to connect to Spotify for example with Avast 2015 running on the system.

A:Avast’s HTTPS Scanning interferes with Firefox and other programs

That is OK with me as i do not like Avast anyway.

Hi all;

I have an odd issue with Firefox & Windows 10, with accessing HTTPS websites.
The sites are very very slow to load and others do not complete the load cycle.
I've had this issue for months now.

Just tried the newly released Firefox v50 ... same issues.
Also use Portable-Firefox:
-On the Windows 10 pc = https sites load very slow.
-If I move to my other PC (using Vista), all sites load fine. Without any changes to my Portable-Firefox setup.

When I use Microsoft's Edge browser all sites load fine.

There seems to be a conflict between the Toshiba Laptop, Windows 10 & Firefox in loading HTTPS websites very slowly.

This is what I have tried so far in relation to Windows 10:

-Changed Proxy settings (within Firefox) to each setting
-Flushed DNS cache
-Checked HOSTS file for any entries to those websites
-Removed entries from Windows Firewall
-Disabled Firewall and Anti-Virus
-Checked for Malware,Spyware,etc,etc
-Booted into Windows 10 SafeMode-Network Enabled
My head is getting sore now. Any suggestions

As I mentioned my Portable-Firefox installation works fine on other pcs, including Windows 10 versions, but not on this system (Toshiba laptop & Windows 10). Though MS Edge browser works perfectly fine.
Some of the https sites:

It would help to know what version of Fx you are running (current version is 49.0.2).

But the first thing to check is the general settings (see screen shot).

Hello out there,

I am running Windows XP Professional SP2,About a month ago,I noticed my internet connection could not connect to secure web sites,or ftp sites, yet i can seem to conect to everything else.I tried uninstalling firefox, then re-installing it,and now firefox wont connect to ANY sites at all,and i am having to use Internet Explorer 7 to access the web,but i stil cant access https or ftp sites.
I have searched long and hard for anybody else that is having same problems, and found some people do have the same problem, but ive tried their solutions to no avail.

I have recently installed zonealarm, hoping it might fix the problm, but it has not.I cant even conect BitComet,or Skype, yet i have no problem accessing my e-mails from incredimail.
Also, for some reason when i am in explorer, and accessing websites,i cant open anything in a new tab,it just opens a blank page, and my Dial-up Connection box keeps flashing on and of the screen until the site is loaded.

Ive tried playing around with my network settings, but i only have the 1 pc,and i have a D-Link DSL-200 ADSL Modem attached, but no other computers.

Ive tried turning the XP Firewall off,but stil have same problems.
As you can probably understand,I am at my wits end.

Here is the information i get when i type ipconfig /all into my cmd prompt:

Hey, i think this is because Hotmail have changed the functionality of their site, i'm sick of it too, you'll find that if you force opening in a new tab it opens a page with the address being "javascript:;"... I'm sick of it already!

If it's something different then i don't know what it is, if you have a mouse then try middle click the link.

Over the past few days, I have been getting several "Error 2 (net::ERR_FAILED): Unknown error." when attempting to go to a link from search results in Chrome.I thought Firefox might be better so I went back to that browser. There, I found, any time I click on a search results link, the browser stalls & then I am redirected to a variety of add pages instead of where I wanted to go. Looking in history shows that I was redirected through findology.com or exoclick.com & others. I found the same results in IE 8. This is happening from google search, yahoo search & bing.I've scanned & fixed with Symantec Anti-virus, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Avast, Windows Defender and Registry Repair with no change. I have this problem with either Firefox 3.0.8 and Internet Explorer 6.0. (I use firefox).
I'm redirected when I click on links (google links in general) to whatever sites that contains word in my search. It also crash very very very often without any raisons.

I scanned the computer with Ad-Aware (latest updates)
I scanned with SpyBot S&Destroy (latest updates)
I scanned with SuperAntiSpyware...

it still crash and redirect.

Firefox in safe mode is crashing too.... even with addons disabled.

I can't find anything on the web to fix this.... I'm pissed off!

Help Please!

(it start in the end of march, so it can be a new malware or trojan which is'nt known yet.)
