Dell System Detect Showing Updates after they have been Installed

Q: Dell System Detect Showing Updates after they have been Installed

This is my first post, so please be understanding.
When I run Dell System Detect on my XPS 13 9360 it tells me there are two downloads available, Chipset: Intel Management Engine Components Installer and Chipset: Intel Chipset Device Software Driver.
I have on a number of occasioins installed these components and received the messages:
Installation complete Restart required 2 drivers downloaded and installed successfully. I have installed them from a browser and by downloading to a local drive and running the install from there.
The O/S is Win10 64 bit and I run the install as a local admin.
Any ideas why it presents the S/W every time I run System Detect?
Thanks in advance,

Preferred Solution: Dell System Detect Showing Updates after they have been Installed

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

XPS13 with Windows 10.  See screen shot below.  Dell Support Assist program says the two driver updates are recommended.  clicking "install" it shows progress to install, then says installed, but on refresh or re-entry to the program it still shows them as needing to be installed.  No errors generated.  Other driver updates done the same way without issue.  Suggestions?

A:Dell SupportAssist - says driver updates are installed but still showing need to be installed after refresh?

Don't use Dell Support assist with windows 10. Windows 10 will install generic drivers if Dell doesn't have win 10 drivers. You should mention the full model name of the computer. Does Dell support your model for upgrading to win 10? If so, get the win 10 drivers from Dell Drivers and Downloads.

PC: Dell Inspiron 15 3542

Problem:  I am unable to download drivers from the dell support website
Dell System Detect has been successfully installed on my PC.  It's icon is present in the system tray.  Inspite of this I am repeatedly getting the message that I need to download and re-install the Dell System Detect software.  No matter how many times I install it as the administrator, I get the same message.  I am unable to accomplish anything on the Dell Support Website.
I have looked for a problem with the software on my laptop.  Sfc scans do not detect any problems with missing or corrupt windows software.  What else can I do to correct this frustrating glitch?

A:Dell System Detect is Installed on PC yet Dell Support Website does not Recognize this

do u have "supportAssist" installed? try using that. and also have u registered ur "service Tag" or "express service tag"
the SupportAssist" can be found by going to start screen and clicking that arrow that takes u to all the apps installed on ur laptop

Hey all,

I am trying to uninstall IE10.  When I go to control panel, program and features, installed updates, the Microsoft Windows section does not show up.  The only sections I can see are Adobe Reader XI, Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile (10),
Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended (7), and Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010 (36).  I have no idea why it isn't showing the Microsoft Windows section, but any help would be great appreciated.

PS - I am an admin on the system.  I also took it off the domain and logged in as a local admin.  Same results.

This morning I saw the latest Windows 7 updates on an old computer I have (A VM running in XCP-NG) to run an old version of Confluence Wiki but that's not really important.
After installing the updates and rebooting the VM is so slow that it looks frozen at times. I restarted it in safe mode to remove the updates but when I access the Windows Updates list from Programs and Features it shows "No updates installed."
Has anyone else seen something like this? I have backups of this VM so I'm working to restore from a backup and before you ask, I know - I have to update that Win7 machine to a more recent version of Windows.
Thanks in advance and best regards.

I've always used windows movie maker to make videos using clips that I take from a point and shoot camera. The files are .AVI and .MTS. I've never had problems before. Then I installed the latest window update which "upgraded" to a "better" version of movie maker.

Since the update, I get little yellow error signs in my video clips (different clips every time - not like just one is defective) and it says I must remove the defective videos before I can save the movie to a DVD. When I click on help, it says there is a problem with the codecs. On a seperate similar note - I am not able to open photos that were shot in RAW and the computer won't let me download the codec for RAW! All this codec crap happened after the windows update!

PLEASE HELP! I want my videos and pictures of my baby!! What codecs are needed? How do I get them? AARRGG!

I have downloaded the subject app. When I attempt to open it, I get a small window that comes and goes so fast I have trouble trying to read what it says. I
There is a horizontal timer that runs to the end very fast,
What I read is ,""Launching Application".  "Verifying application requirements.", " This may take a few moments".
Then, the window closes out and that's all that happens.
I surfed to the Dell site, and attempted to get driver updates. After initiating,"Guide me", the little square timer starts to run. And it never stops. I let the thing run for twenty minutes and it just kept turning with no other actions.
So then I went to manual and selected some downloads.  I select download, after checking the boxes I want, and noting happens. I check in my download folder, nothing there.
That's about it. To generalize when I try to run Dell System Detect,, nothing happens. When I try to download updates, nothing happens.
The computer is running with no problems, I just can't seem to connect with Dell

I'd suggest uninstalling / reinstalling Dell System Detect. Type Settings onto [Cortana] search box, click Apps, select Apps & Feature, and then click Dell System Detect to uninstalled.  Please click on the link below to reinstall DST:
Dell System Detect | Dell US
1. Review the Terms and Conditions, check the box and click Continue.
2. Once the installer downloads, a notification window will appear asking if you want to install this application. Choose Install from this window.
3.Upon successful installation, a confirmation icon will appear in the Windows taskbar. Product detection will begin automatically.

I wen to the Dell website to update my drivers and it asked my to install Dell System Detect - so I downloaded and installed it.  When I went to the start menu to run it I noticed that  I had two instances; one of them had a '1' at the end of its name.  I hopped over to 'Programs and Features' to see what was going on and I found two instances installed on my machine.  The second one was there with the '1' after the name.

From time to time, I use iOBit uninstaller to check existing programs, and sometimes find ones I've never seen before. This morning, it was Dell System Detect. I did some research and found out what it is, what it does and that it is a vulnerable program, so I wanted to uninstall it.
When iOBit does the second scan, it comes up with a lot of leftover appdata files and a warning comes up that says:
Warning! Multiple programs detected in the current directory. Please be careful when selecting items to delete.
The files are all under this directory, and there are approximate 60 of them.
C:\Users/MyName\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\DPH8J4AT.54N\6DK4VGY9.TZJ\DELL..TION_E30847F5D4A30E93_0006.0006_E3E278AC9F13D46\(Hope I got all that right)Is it safe to delete these files the regular uninstaller left behind?

A:Uninstalling Dell System Detect

Hi DSA2591,
What is the exact system model? What is the current OS installed on the system?
The files in the local appdata folder are all temporary files stored by the programs / applications that are  installed on the system. So, yes it is safe to delete these files, however, I would suggest you to create a system restore point, such that in any case, if there is an issue with the system, you could always restore the machine back to its functional point.
Hope these links help - http://bit.ly/2fhDDa8 | http://bit.ly/2dYomoJ
Having said this, the Dell System Detect is a Dell application to detect the system details and check for any required updates on the system. So, it is your discretion whether or not you would want to remove this from your system.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I had a bunch of slowdown and glitch problems recently, I've had glitchy problems with Dell software since the beginning, it's changed over time as Dell updates its own software automatically, including freezes and crashes (not to mention the root cert vulnerability a while back), so I just uninstalled as much as I could, and the problems mostly went away, but now I've noticed the Sleep option is gone from power options, I can only shut down and hibernate now.
(Screenshot at bottom of post)
I went in to Dell support to see what I needed to install again, and it guided me to the Dell System Detect download launcher, which now crashes. I tried uninstalling all of the remaining Dell software (Data Protection, Power Manager (which had no Hibernate/Sleep options anyways), but not Touchpad), and it says DDP needs other things uninstalled first...
I just need a normal Windows 7 experience, I want the absolute base minimum Dell software necessary to have that experience without all the Dell bugs and problems... what do I do now?

I have a Gateway GM5442 with 2 1024 MB DIMMs memory originally installed and just upgraded it with two additional DDR2 PC2-4200 1 GB Samsung memory cards. The computer works as before, but the additional memory does not show in system. I use Windows 7 with 64-bit OS. I already checked that the cards are quite in place and rebooted. I already checked as per your instructions msconfig Advance options. Maximum memory was already unchecked and then checked to "Make all boot settings permanent". Rebooted, and still shows 2.00 GB installed memory (RAM) in System info and 2037 Total Physical Memory in Task Manager.

A:Additional memory installed not showing in system

Two thoughts:

Enter the BIOS settings and see if all the RAM is recognized there.

All 4 sticks should be the same voltage. Look on the original sticks and see if there is a sticker with the voltage marked on it, then compare that to the voltage of the new sticks.

This application, known as Dell System Detect, is pre-installed with many Dell systems. According to research done by Tom Forbes, older versions of Dell System Detect are vulnerable to a serious remote code execution attack.
What this basically means is that anyone with a vulnerable version of the tool (which maintains persistence on the system and therefore is always running) might be directed by an attacker to a specific website designed to exploit the flaw in the program and execute any commands the attacker wishes.
This could potentially lead to malware being installed without user awareness, stolen credentials, damaged system configuration and more.
Thankfully Dell has since modified this tool based on the research and it is no longer vulnerable, so it?s in the best interest for everyone to update this tool if they are running a computer designed by Dell.

I have had DSD on my laptop in the past. Recently I tried to use it and got the message "Cannot start application - application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor."  I noticed that it was  still in programs list and I tried to uninstall it, but nothing happened when I tried to uninstall it... nothing; like it was a ghost.
I have gone through the files on my computer and I couldn't find any files related to DSD. I also found out it is somehow on my automatic start up programs list even though it has no apparent files.
So I tried to reinstall DSD and while trying to install, I received the message "Cannot start application - application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor."

Dell System Detect: Common Questions
For more information about the recent issue reported related to Dell System Detect (DSD), refer below.

November 23, 2015
Description: Dell System Detect application and its DSDTestProvider root certificate had similar characteristics to eDellRoot certificate that was installed on Dell PC's. With Dell System Detect (DSD), the customer downloads the software proactively to interact with the Dell Support website so we can provide a better and more personalized support experience. The support certificate in question was designed to make it faster and easier for our customers to get support. The certificate unintentionally introduced a security vulnerability.
The application was removed from the Dell Support site immediately and a replacement application without the certificate is now available. We are proactively pushing a software update to address the issue and have provided instructions to remove this certificate.
Impact: The impact is limited to customers who used the "detect product" functionality on our support site between Oct. 20 and Nov. 24, 2015.
Fix Information:

Automatic Removal Please download the patch to remove the eDellRoot and DSDTestProv... Read more

well I put it all in the topic ... I'm working on my parents computer (which they allow an 8 year old to use) and they are infected with crap ... IE is constantly poping up about security certificate errors ...
I would note that the computer is slow ... but it doesn't have enough memory so malware is only part of that problem.
Shrug... don't know what else to say ...
(I will probably proactively delouse my own computer later as well as optimising this one and look into getting more memory ....  but all that is another post for another day)

Since I originally installed Windows 10 Professional on my XPS 8700 in July 2015 Dell System Detect has been failing to run properly.  Although it downloads to my PC and all indications are that the software is running just fine on my PC, attempting to detect my system on the Dell support website invariably returns the message “Running Dell System Detect,  Download failure.  An error occurred while downloading Dell System Detect. Cancel or Retry.”
Now, Dell System Detect always ran fine on my PC under Win 7 Ultimate and Win 8.1 Professional x64 versions.  It is only since installing Windows 10 Professional that I have encountered this error.  Following the Windows 10 Anniversary fiasco I was encountering so many problems that I attempted to use Dell Support.  Once again attempting to detect my system resulted in the message “Running Dell System Detect,  Download failure.  An error occurred while downloading Dell System Detect. Cancel or Retry.”
With sheer multitude of problems I was experiencing from the Anniversary update, I finally resorted to a clean install of Win 10 Pro, which fortunately resolved all of the problems I had been encountering.  Out of curiosity, I downloaded and installed Dell System Detect Ver; once again it appeared to download and run without problems.  And once again, as soon as it finished installing the Dell website reported  “Download failure. I did a new install of Windows 7 last year when Microsoft discontinued support of Windows XP.  This year I used the free upgrade to Windows 10
I have an OPTI Plex 755 which is  probably 5 years old. I've upgraded to Windows 10
Dell System Detect does not execute after the Windows 10 install.  I printed out the Error Summary.  It began:
Activation of C:\Users\Paulette|AppData\Rjoaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Dell\Dell System Detect.appref-ms| resulted in exception.  Following failure messages were detected:
+the deployment identity does not match the subscription.
There is more.  Does anyone have an idea what the problem maybe and how I can regain use of my cd/dvd?

A:OptiFlex 755 Upgrade to Windows 10-No Dell System Detect or cd/dvd driver

According to your Dell Product Support page, Dell doesn't list your system as a window 10 upgrade nor Dell list any drivers for window 10 as well. Please click on the link below and see for yourself.

Hello, I would be grateful if anyone can help with this query.

On 1 June 2013 I took my pc back to Factory Settings and did a clean install of Windows installing all the relevant important updates for Vista. My pc is now up-to-date but one thing puzzles me. My list of installed updates lists a significant number of updates installed in 2008. (Two installed on 21/01/2008 and 39 from 21/10/2008). I would have expected that all updates listed would have an installation date on or after 1 June 2013.

I would be grateful if someone could explain this for me.

A:Why do my installed updates list updates installed prior to date of clean install

One important question, when did you buy the computer?
Was it after the installation date that shows, now?

Yesterday I installed critical/needed Windows XP updates that had been waiting on me for a few weeks behind the yellow update shield in the lower right corner of my screen. I was having problems connecting my son’s new Christmas present, Xbox Live , to the internet so I was about to restart the computer to see if maybe the router needed me to do a clean reboot after entering the Xbox’s MAC address into my allowed devices list. I stupidly thought I’d be thorough by installing those waiting updates first and then restart. All went well and when it finished and asked if I wanted to restart now I selected yes. Nothing happened. I kept trying, still no restart. Then I went to Start>Turn Off>Restart several times and each time I returned to my desktop with nothing happening. Finally I just did a cold shutdown with the power button. My son is, understandably, so upset that he can’t use his present to connect with his friends live.
Now my computer won’t boot up at all past the Dell splash screen. The typical churning, lights and sounds all begin and then when the Dell logo screen appears, everything goes quiet. It took me several times before I could get into my BIOS, select boot order to start with my CD, place my XP install disc into my drive and restart. Still, I can’t get past that screen and it never boots from the CD. (the CD light does go steady at “power on” like it always does but then goes off at that splash screen along with everything else. I tried to res... Read more

At around 4 AM Windows Update installed. I happened to be awake, and noticed it doing so because I was listening to a podcast from bed, and then the audio cut out. It was too late for me to stop any updates, so I just let it run and reboot as necessary. When the rebooted system loads, half my desktop icons are missing, as are all desktop folders, the content previously stored there now seemingly unlocatable.

Naturally, I'm alarmed by this greatly, so I decide to reboot it. This is something I repeat twice before giving up. The problem is that each time I reboot, despite signing in through my main user account, I'm logged in as the generic admin. This means that essentially none of my software (having been installed only on the user account) is installed (and, for instance, when trying to reinstall Chrome I'd get -Installer Download Failed. Error = 0x800405ff), none of my preferences are saved, and again I lack access to several folders worth of important files previously located on my desktop.
The updates that installed are:

Security Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB2485376) - Installation status: Successful
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB2492475) - Installation status: Successful
Security Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB2393802) - Installation status: Successful

Hello Aleya, and welcome to Seven Forums.

That's normal since you have installed the 32-bit (x86) edition of Office instead of the 64-bit edition.

Choose the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Office

Hi, I've just reformatted my Inspiron N5010 laptop, reinstalled WIndows 7 and now my Wifi doesnt work. Been trolling through the web I believe the issue here is with the driver as the attachment in Device Manager. I tried clicking on Software Update but it could not find the anything online. I tried to use Dell System Detect but it says format issue until I found a post in this forum stating to install Microsoft Net Framework. Title of post is Dell System Detect (DSD) launch error. It seems to have installed but when I run DSD nothing pops up. I was hoping DSD can help me identify the right driver. Can someone please help me with DSD, or maybe help me identify the right driver required? I hope I'm on the right track to resolve the WIfi issue.

I have an Inspiron 13 7000 series 2-in-1 and i frequently lose sound after system updates. Normally I just uninstalled the Conexant SmartAudio component and driver, reboot and the new driver magically appears. Not so this time. So I went to Dell to find the right driver. They require I install their System Detect software but I get an error message (see below). Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just saw the new Client System Update utility for my E6500, downloaded, and installed it on Win7 x64. I've been talking about Dell creating such a util for years and finally Dell did.
However, it does not work. After I press the Check for updates button, after a bit it comes back with "Check for updates failed" and the GUI-U15 error in the logs. I tried many times, including after a reboot. Also, the app just disappears (probably crashes silently) when I go to Advanced->system details.
Any ideas? I was excited to spread the word around about it but can't as it doesn't work at all.

I can count that there 5 new drivers released since I updated the drivers last time but the Driver detect does not detect them.
Instead it detects just two drivers that are already installed and even if I do "install the again". The Driver detect still "detects" these two "new" drivers over and over again.

After putting it off for a couple weeks, I finally did my Dell system update which was supposedly a Bios update.  Upon restarting, ALL of my files were wiped (except the ones in my recycle bin- go figure!). I have Carbonite so I am restoring everything but it takes a long time and is very frustrating.  I wanted to put this here as a warning to anyone.  How could this have happened and how can I prevent it in the future, besides not doing any updates?
