Q: email folders

I tried to email a large folder of files and I received a dropdown window saying it was too large to send. Now when I try to get into my Outlook Express I find that I have not received any mail for 2 days and that the small icon in the lower right hand corner of the screen says "sending mail" instead of "receiving Mail" It seems that I can't stop this large folder from trying to send. Can someone help me out.

Good morning -- just installed Outlook 365. I was able to sync all my emails (including folders I've created with all emails stored), calendar and contacts. My issue is with my iPhone 6 email app. I'm seeing my calendar and contacts as well as all my emails -- inbox, sent, junk...but none of the other folders. The folders don't appear in settings, mail, contacts, calendars...under fetch new data either. Any thoughts? Thank you!

I can't add our shared org email using the normal outlook setup. I tried POP/IMAP, it worked but the emails and subfolders are incomplete. And the shared org email is associated with my personal org email, whenever I tried to remove the associated folders,
it say's "This group of folders is associated with an email account. To remove the account, click the File Tab, and on the Info tab, click Account Settings. Select the e-mail account and than click Remove."
Then I tried a lot of times to remove my email and back again, it is still there. I also removed the additional mailboxes in the screenshot below.

A few sessions of trying to learn to use email clients forced changes to how some files were arranged in folders and in which folders were in the email account tested.  The two email clients I have tried up to now are Opera Mail (portable form) and Windows Mail.  The one that seemed to have disturbed the folders and email messages was Windows Mail.  Can anyone tell me how to make sure that this does not happen when setting up an email client for a new account?

i logged on to AOL as usual yesterday to find that all my folders in my Personal Filing Cabinet have disappeared !

i called the AOL TechHelpline Technician - NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER !! - he told me i could find them on my hard drive BUT HE DIDN'T KNOW WHERE TO LOOK!

Yesterday all my folders except inbox were empty. I found them in the Windows Live Mail folder on hard drive and I copied those files back to my e-mail program. but they are in .eml format and the computer can not open them, but it will open them in the hard drive folder. How do I get them to open when I check my email. Hope you can understand this as it is hard to describe.. Thanks

I have Windows ME?Outlook Express. I had emails I wanted to keep so I made some folders to put them in. Some of the folders showed up beneath teh "Deleted items" folder. They were indented....I never thought anything about that. Several times I emptied my deleted items folder and the other folders were fine then today I emptied the deleted items folder and it wiped out all the other folders. GGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, whinnnnnnnnnnnneeeeee...Is there ANY way to get my other folders back??????

Are you using IMAP servers? if yes, try accessing your webmail, lucky if folders and messages are still present...
oh well, if you confirm the deletion of the folders... i dont think there's a way to restore them.

I am confused about the process of backing up the email folders. The pro-
cedure I follow is: A) left click folder B) Click file C) Scroll menu to folder C)
Click compact on menu. My question if this is correct ? Where does it end up at what location ? And does it compact all the mail in this folder ?

I am soooo hoping there is still hope! i got a message last night when closing my email asking if i wanted to compact my messages (1st time i ever got that message( and bcs i have alot of emails i clicked yes - so i lost all my folders and contents. in a search on the internet i found a thread from this site about such problems and how to restore the messages but i messed it up.
i did a search for dbx files and found them, i also looked in my recycled bin and found them there ( i can't remember if their were .bak or .dbx files though) but i thought if followed the instructions by copying them to a seperate folder i created on my desktop - then this is where it gets messy - i somehow right clicked on 1 of the files and i think when i clicked open, it asked me with what program and once i searched the different programs available there seemed to be no way back to undo this - until then i think it said this file opens with an "unknown program" - so i had to pick one and when i did it changed the look of all my files in the folder and the option to "restore" is no longer there.
Is there any hope???

I recently had to reinstall XP(I know, I know), the install overwrote everything that was on my desktop. Before reinstalling, I saved a copy of the folder windows. How can I go and retrieve my emails or are they lost forever?

when you say you saved windows folder do you mean the actual folder named windows? If so what did you save it on? My windows is 800mb big I'm sure xp is bigger.
If you have saved windows though your e-mails are in there under windows, application data, should now have folders with letters and numbers, microsoft, outlook express.
Just see if you can get there first to confirm you saved the windows folder.

HI all. I have a PC and a laptop both running Windows 7 and Thunderbird/Firefox. I have a bunch of email folders on my PC, where I hold important emails, that I would like to copy over to my laptop when I travel, the way I do other files I need to have with me at all times. I can't locate the email folders on my PC. Is this possible to do and can someone tell me how?

I have lost my main client's folder from my list of archives. I don't know how to get it back. I went to Windows 98: drive:\Windows\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

and see that it could be here as "mailbox.pst". I don't know how I put it there or how to get it back.

Can someone please help with one or all of the following? I have a Compaq laptop on XP that is up to date. Norton runs clean. I believe my modem is going bad because whenever Iím on the internet and minimize IE the computer locks up. In about five minutes it starts running and all the things I clicked on while it was locked up appear, as if they were all running in the background. The pc works fine if Iím not using the modem. Iím on vacation and have other modems at home. Several times I held the power button down when it was hung up. One of those times I lost my profile so that when it starts up it canít find local settings and it has to build a temp profile. I built another profile but all of my old Outlook folders are missing. Iíve done multiple searches for *.pst but canít find them, even looking in hidden files. Iíve found an old pst file that I made as a backup last year but when I try to load it into my new profile/ user it says I donít have permission to access these files. The new user I built is set as administrator. I tried moving a copy from the cd to my user but then it asked for a password which I never set. Here are my questions,

1) Is there any way to find the folders in my old Outlook?
2) Is there a way to change the permission on the old pst file on my backup cd? I tried finding it in the registry after I moved it to my user but was unable to?
3) Scanpst.exe needs a pst file to work on which I canít find.
4) Iíve reloaded the driver for the modem ... Read more

I notice in the Outlook Reviews that it does not allow email folders, as did Outlook Express.
This would mean that all emails are grouped under one folder  YIKES !

I think I'm going to have to reformat a friends computer, think a worm got in and now I can't get past the desk top, no icons, no task bar nothing to click on, zip. Tried to do a repair install of Win XP twice but it hangs up at 33 minutes remaining for an hour, think I'm hooped ...

Before I reformat I want to remove his hard drive, install it into my computer and back up any ofhis files files like favorites (which I found), my docs and his emails which I can't find anywhere.
Favorites are at C:\Documentsandsettings\administrator\favorites, I've found the desktop etc, but where the hell are those Outlook email foldersŅ

I thought my mail folders would be in the computer. When I changed from MSN to Road Runner their search is not finding MSN files. Are they forever gone along with the uninstall of MSN?

Hi All,

I have just upgraded to Win 8 and installed office 2010. I've got outlook up and running but most of the previous emails were in folders. On the new system I don't have these emails or folders.

Any ideas how I would port them over? The old outlook is still intact on another hardrive.

If you have the location of the old files, just choose File > Open > Outlook Data File and select it. Optionally, you can copy it or move it to the same location as the new one (May need to be renamed). < If the other hard drive is in the same system. > You can Map a network Drive and Move or Copy the file from it if on another.

I have a weird problem with almost 4,000 Yahoo webmail folders I want to get rid of and I am not going to take the time to empty each one before I delete the folder. No idea how this happened, an email client screw up maybe, but my entire email folder structure was cloned and nested about 4 deep. in eMClient I cleaned it up by moving all the bad/redundant stuff to Local Folders then deleting it. For some reason, it would not delete from the IMAP server. Now it's in Trash in the email client but still will not delete. It does for a few seconds, then the folders pop back one by one and are grayed out with no contents.

So, I figured I'd get rid of it from Yahoo webmail since it's (I assume) more tightly linked to the server...maybe. I dunno. But in Yahoo, all the junk I want to get rid is not in Trash but a place called "Folders". All 3,840 of them, folders that is, not individual emails. Oddly, I just do not have the patience to open each folder, delete contents, delete folder, go to next, repeat......Zzzzz. I know how to empty a folder by clicking the boxes, that's no help.

So, is there some sort of wizardly way to tell Yahoo mail to just "damn the torpedos" and delete my friggin folders? Absent a suggestion there, how do I contact Yahoo and actually speak with a human or is it even possible? I'm told it's a Yahoo server issue, not an ATT issue.

At the end of a free upgrade of a service (I don't remember which one) Juno's email system
announced a problem. It then took all my emails ( over 9000 ) many of which were in folders
and said they had to put all of them in a "restored 3/31/10 file". I no longer have folder names on
the site and no record of which folder contained which emails.
Emails go back to July 2005. Windows XP
Can I reverse this action ?
How can I get my folders back ?

A:lost all folders on Juno email

Even though Juno Technical Support charges $1.95 per minute to help, I have figured out the solution since one of my customers had the exact same issue.

The solution is to open Juno E-mail.

Go to "File, Manage E-mail Folders"

Choose "Import Folder"

Surf to the location of your old mai folders. (I would search for: fold10*.* and see what you get)

There will be a user folder that your old folders will be located in. Choose that user folder and it will bring up a list of your old folders.

Select all of your old folders and import them.

It will take a while since you have a lot of emails. But it worked fo me.

Dear all,

First, my HD was damaged last week and had been repaired by a data recovery lab., some of my Netscape email folders can not be displayed in "Communicator", for example : "E-Statement" folder with "SBD" extension and "E-Statement.snm" can be found in the "File Manager", "E-Statement" without extension is missing, is it the reason this folder can not be found in "Communicator" ? If do so, how can I re-build this "E-Statement" file ?

Seondary, during my HD was in the lab., I saved my email in another HD, now, how can I add those emails to my previous emails folder ? I don't want to use "Forward", because the sender will be changer.

Hi, I have MozBackup for backing up Thunderbird email folders, and I do so regularly. But I want to make sure I backup all the folders to other external drives, and I can't find the location of the backups....when I search for .pcv files, it says they haven't been modified since 2011. I need to be REALLY sure about these backups......losing the email folders would be a catastrophe for me. So my questions are: 1) where are they located? and 2) how can I back up these folders? Is it as easy as copying the folders to a n external drive?

A:Want Thunderbird email folders backed up-

I have found it better to have the MozBackup Backup folder and then other sub folders.
I got more then one computer profile so have a folder for each and then a folder for Firefox and Thunderbird etc.
That way you know where a back up us for each profile.
The backup would also have the date on them.

Don't know how many times you back up but each back would have a new date so you should have more then one.

I have Thunderbird 3.1.20 so the back up name is "Thunderbird 3.1.20 (en-US) - 2013-03-31.pcv"
So you should have one like that for each backup unless you click the browse botton and then change the file name to the same name and over write each back and that you should not do.
Just let MozBackup name the back for you and so you know who the back is for like your email or another person make the folders. Then click the browse botton and point it to the save as folder but let it name the file for you.

Worse case to restore is take the backup file Thunderbird 3.1.20 (en-US) - 2013-03-31.pcv and make a cope.
Then replace the .pcv with .zip and then save it and open the zip file.
Then your have to do a manual restore of the files and can ask for help when that tume comes.

The wife was reading her email when a window came up asking if she wanted to Compress the email folders to save space on the drive. She clicked yes, and now I have no past email other than todays. Any way to uncompress the folders and reinstate my email? The storage location is NOT on C drive, but on L drive which is a common drive for multiple O/S booting. The folders still show to be in the 795MB total, but now only contain a few messages. I do not include L drive in system restore for the simple reason W2000 doesn't have system restore, which is one of my operating systems. Dummy here didn't think to run a Acronis True Image backup of "L"!

Running Win98 and OE 5.5 where I had a number of folders set up in the inbox. Lots of emails in the folders. Activated OE one day and couldnt see any emails in the inbox. none. A tech was able to export the inbox to another file, where I can see the names of the file folders. When we re-imported to OE the emails in the inbox reappeared minus the folders and their contents. In other words emails not in folders were retrieved. Is there any way to get the rest back?

If you still have the "exported" copy of Inbox.dbx and can see the sub foldeds in it, you may still have some hope. Get this free program to try and salvage them DBXTract
If you are able to retreive them, and even if you are not. Take this as a warning NOT to store ANYTHING in any of the dynamic folders in OE (Inbox,Sent Items,etc) even if you have sub folder under them..they are (as you now know) VERY succeptable to corruption; especially if you use the "Compact in background" options..most OE "experts" will tell you to disable this function and do manual folder maintiance. I'll tell you the same thing although I don't consider myself an "expert''

Does anyone know if there is a "folder limit" or "size limit" in Windows Mail?? I have hundreds of folders with e-mails located inside and when I had to rebuild Windows Mail because my spell check didn't work, I backed up my e-mail folders in a empty folder on my C drive as well as on my back up drive and when I went to import them all back, I only was able to import a portion of them.. Others, when I go to import them manually, they say they imported over, but when you open the import file, nothing is there.. Any suggestions on how to get the rest of my folders to import over?? I copied everything in my outlook express5 from my old computer to my new computer by setting up my old hard drive as my d drive on the new computer. sent d drive to c drive in new computer. NOW I can't get my local folders in the old outlook into the local folders of the new outlook. Can anyone tell me how to get it there and be able to read the mail that is in those folders.

I was running Windows 7 and Using Microsoft Live Mail. I do a lot of shopping online and have the receipts stored in storage folders in the program. I bought a new laptop that runs Windows 8 on it. I have exported the storage folders and saved them on a flash drive. Then I saved them onto a flashdrive and transferred them to the new laptop. But Windows 8 won't open them. It won't open any of my email stationery either. It keeps wanting to import them as contacts. I have looked for another program to use to open the .eml files but can't find one. Can you please help me?

Hello Steph, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you meant that you used Windows Live Mail, then you could also install it in Windows 8.

Afterwards you could import your messages back into Windows Live Mail. This is assuming that you exported them using the method below first.

This will allow you to reset Outlook so that your folders should

I am using eM client, and all of my incoming emails go to 'myemail address.com'. This is where my 'Sent', 'Trash' etc, folders are.
However, a couple of days ago, I clicked on my 'Local Folder', and my son's emails were there, and I cannot understand why!
They are the only ones that go to that folder, and as stated, ALL of my incoming emails normally go to 'myemailaddress.com'.
I have tried to understand the very many options under 'Rules', but find them confusing. All I want is for ALL of my emails to go to my own Inbox, not the 'Local Folder'.
I hope I have explained this enough for fellow Forum members to understand, and if anyone has had a similar experience, and found a solution, please let me know.

A:Em email client folders puzzle.

I've not used that email client, but by default, all email should be going to the same folder(s). If particular emails are not, then as you already noted, it's likely because there is a rule in place routing those emails to a different location.

I don't know if it applies to eM, but with outlook, you can simply right click on an email to get to the rules options (ie: create a new rule, manage rules, etc.). From the "manage rules" section, you can see all of the rules being used. In your case, I would expect there to be nothing listed.

My friend's regular, non paid aol email account has been hacked. The folders have been deleted. She has no emails although she did manage to get back in and change passwords. Additionally, she lost all her contacts and about 6 years worth of emails. AOL told here she would need to purchase a monthly subscription to get any support. Any ideas on how to help would be greatly appreciated!

The email provider probably has backups and can restore from backups. But as they said, nothing is free. Check with them to see whether restore from backup is available before paying.

Hi,

Using Outlook how do I filter my incoming messages to go to certain folders. I have 3 different email addresses and what I want is to have 3 folders, with the incoming mail to go to the appropriate folder. So 'email address 1' to go to 'email address 1' folder, 'email address 2' to go to email address 2 folder and so on. How do I do this?

Create your folders, then under tools go to rules and create a rule to sort the mail.

When using IE and I want to attach a file or photo within a folder to an email, a few of "MY Documents" folders don't show up when I click "attach" and the IE box opens for downloads showing all my folders in "MY Documents" or "My Pictures." All the folders are there when I use my computer for Office or Windows Photo Gallery. I downloaded another browser and tried it. That works fine but I like IE and don't want to switch. Right now to attach most photos or a file to an email, I have to save it to my desktop so I can get to it to attach to an email. It's only certain folders not showing to try and download/attach from "My Pictures" and "My Documents." I've tried everything I know and have read on Tips for solving....IE. I very novice about computers! Hope someone can help. I can't figure out how to make a screen shot of the browser window that opens when you try to attach a file so I hope my explanation is enough.

Switching from XP to Visa, the new windows email program has folders now instead of identities. I have 2 separate email identities (accounts) with outlook express, one for home and one for an organization I run. This made it nice and easy to switch between them before and keep everything separate. The "easy" transfer did not move my email messages from either account so I will have to do it manually. But, I have 2 sets of messages and 2 contacts lists, how do I keep these separate in Visa? Seems like it will put them all into one inbox and contacts list. The help was worthless!

Hi!

When I use Thunderbird (at home and at work), my active (highlighted) email folder can change without my participation! For example, I could be viewing my "Inbox" and then
I just move the cursor (no clicking invloved) and then another folder (i.e., "Templates")
is highlighted. I cannot predict when this will happen or which folder will be highlighted.

Any thoughts, please?

My desktop has an SSD (C:) as the primary/boot drive and a 1TB HDD (E:). Because SSD's deteriorate with every write, I have tried to keep items that are constantly added to or deleted (working files) on the HDD. I just noticed today that the storage folder for my Windows Live Mail were on the SSD, so I changed them to the same location (/Users/(name)/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows Live Mail) on E:. However, strange thing happened when I did that. The Inbox emails all re-downloaded from Comcast's server. . . but the emails I SENT (Sent Items) did not all come over. I got only the sent emails from mid 2013 to the end of February 2014 on BOTH of my email accounts (personal and business).

Why? I looked into the old storage folders on C: and they're empty. What happened to the Sent Items after February 2014?!

I opened up email today to find folders I created gone and email that was in my inbox missing. What could cause this? I was able to do a system restore and that solved the problem but I'm still concerned. What could have happened?
