I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A friend of mine has the Privacy Center virus on their PC. I've followed this post to remove it, but that hasn't worked. Below are the steps I've followed.1. Download MBAM and run a quick scan. This brought up a number of items to be removed. I removed them all and restarted, but PC was still there.2. I ran a full scan that evening when I went to bed. The next morning the computer had hibernated, so I woke it up, but there was no sign of the MBAM session.3. I changed the power settings and reran the full scan. 1 item appeared in the scan quite quickly. However, I left it to run and the screensaver kicked in. When I entered the password to log in again, the MBAM session was again missing.4. I ran another quick scan and this found 1 item. I removed this and restarted the computer, but PC is still there.5. I ran a full scan with Norton AntiVirus which my friend downloaded. The virus definitions are 152 days out of date, but for obvious reasons I'm not connecting it to my network to update them. Norton found nothing at all.6. I downloaded and ran the DDS scipt (see below and attached). There was one message at the end of the DOS Session as follows:Access is denied.EDS.EXE: can't read temp00: Permission deniedI'm stuck now. In the post mentioned above, there is a list of directories/registry keys. Of these, C:\Program Files\Privacy Center still exists, but none of the %UserProfile% items are there.None of the listed registry settings are there, but there is a HKLM\S... Read more

I have a computer that seemed to be seriously infected. As soon as booting up, a program called Privacy Center would automatically start scanning, or so it said anyways (In Normal and Safe Modes). I had to open task manager to kill the program and then run explorer from there as well. So after getting to the desktop, I downloaded, installed, and ran (in this order):
1) CCleaner - Cleaned files (including those older than 48 hours)
2) ATF-Cleaner
3) Malwarebytes (Quick Scan - 74 Infections) - Have Log
4) Superantispyware (Full Scan - 18 Infections) - Have Log
5) Bitdefender Online Scanner (44 Infections)- Have Log
6) Malwarebytes (Full Scan - 18 Infections) - Have Log
7) Hijackthis - Have Log

This computer is running Windows XP.

Now I noticed that I'm not supposed to post logs until asked for them, so guess I'll wait...

Thanks

Hello hiker75 and to Bleeping Computer. It sounds like you have a Rogue on your system. We may need to send you to the Malware Removal forum to get rid of this bugger, but I'd like to see some of those logs before we make that decision, if we can kill it here it will save you a lot of time and trouble .Please post the logs from 3, 4, 5, and 6 (using your numbering in the above post). Please do not post a HijackThis log, as they are not allowed in this forum. Also, please do not run any other cleaning/fixing tools unless instructed, in order to facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

When I got this laptop I had Catalyst Control Center when I right clicked the desktop, but when I installed a new driver it changed to AMD VISION Control Center. I didn't really notice anything different other than that.

Is it suppose to change like that, did I download the wrong one or have the wrong one in the start? I did the automatic scan and manually put the information in but they gave the same results.

A:AMD VISION Control Center / Catalyst Control Center = Same Thing?

That's their new name for CCC. They probably had to change it because CCC was associated with ATI.

Decided to update my GPU driver ATI mobility radeon 550v ( version 8.692 ) and the ATI CCC 10.1 to the latest 11.2 and the GPU driver. GPU driver can be installed and uninstalled with no prob... the prob was with the ATI CCC 10.1 . Did not uninstall this and went str8 to the new installation update. GPU driver updated succcessfully but the ATI CCC was without 3D options and others etc. Left with Display Center and Power Supply option. Nth else was there... did the uninstalling from the ATI CCC installer but was not successful. "No Files were detected for the removal"

Did the Control Panel thing and was not successful. Click on Uninstall/Change mouse showed loading icon after that nth happens, Run CCleaner in safe mode and still the same issue. Unable to remove it with CCleaner nor CTRL Panel nor CCC installer. Did try to manually delete files and folders for ATI Technologies on C:Programs Filex86/ATI Technologies. Prompted " ...program being used by another person or program..."

begin another test, install the same 10.1 CCC downloaded from ATI official site so that i can uninstall it again, nothing appears to be installed in that folder. it was like blank installation. No error message... installation log all were successful. Tried to uninstall after that .. no can do... had been trying for 2 days.. really appreciate some help here.

Hello,After booting, my computer screen only shows a screen that says Control Center Best PC health components. It indicates that the license control center has expired and must be renewed or something like that. When I try to close this window it will not allow me to close it. The only other screen that comes up is one that asks for my credit card information to purchase a virus program. I have been using a different computer than the infected one to try to figure out what to do. I was able to use Ctrl + Alt + Delete to get to the task manager and access the internet that way. I found another site that said to eliminate the virus go to the task manager, click processes, find the process that says something with control center and click end process. I did this. A message came up that said are you sure you want to delete this because it will be permanent or something like that. I didn't know what to do but I just clicked yes. But afterwards saw that the Control Center screen was still there. I finally came across this website and followed the recommendations given here. First, I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and ran a scan. It showed some problems and I clicked to fix them but it didn't work. Then I tried downloading rkill but I don't think that went through for some reason. I am now at my wits end on how to get rid of this thing. Hi,Most probably malwarebytes wasn't updated here before you run the scan, so...First of all, please update MalwareBytes, Start MalwareBytes and click the Update tab. There click "Check for updates"Once the updates are downloaded, perform a quick scan again. The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh DDS log, then we'll proceed from there with new steps.Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

A computer virus has infected the cockpits of America?s Predator and Reaper drones, logging pilots? every keystroke as they remotely fly missions over Afghanistan and other warzones. The virus, first detected nearly two weeks ago by the military?s Host-Based Security System, has not prevented pilots at Creech Air Force Base in Nevada from flying their missions overseas. Nor have there been any confirmed incidents of classified information being lost or sent to an outside source. But the virus has resisted multiple efforts to remove it from Creech?s computers, network security specialists say. And the infection underscores the ongoing security risks in what has become the U.S. military?s most important weapons system.Read more here: http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2011/10/virus-hits-drone-fleet/

I have sony vaio laptop, with windows xp. Privacy center blocks my screen at start up. It continues to block even in safe mode and also blocks task manager. I do not have a boot-CD. Can you please help me to get rid off Privacy center. Please help me !! Many Thanks.

A:how do get rid of Privacy center

Hello pradea Welcome to the TSF Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum. I will be assisting you in cleaning up your system.

I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

After 3 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

Do you have access to a computer you can burn a CD to or download to a flash drive?

Thanks,

thewall

Pasting in contextual information from another topic. ~ OBOk so here is the problem, my husband's desktop, which is running windows xp home edition, has gotten some spyware called "privacy center". I did a web search on it to see what it was so maybe I could remove it myself. I also did a search here before starting this topic with no help there. Here is what I have done so far, I ran combofix and it didn't detect anything. I ran malware byte it found 4 things but not wanted it to remove. I am now running the spybot program, everytime I try running this the spyware restarts the computer before I can remove anything it finds. I keep my norton's updated. I have ran sdfix in hopes it will take care of it but it didn't detect anything either. I am at a lost as to what I need to do next. I do know this is getting frustrating as I can't get anything done with the pop ups this spyware is putting out. I am using my laptop to get help with this issue, but will be more than happy to do a hijack this log from the desktop if needed. Thanks in advance for any help provided. Hi... any help you can offer is helpful as I am at my wits' end.

Running Dell Latitude D620, Windows XP. This afternoon, a "Windows" icon popped up in my system tray and it is trying to install "Privacy Center." This is obviously malware.

I tried to post a HijackThis log but I am having to type this message as the malware will not let me post here (I am using a friend's computer to type this). I was unable to email him my HijackThis log as the malware is blocking my ability to utilize any of my email addresses.

Also, it has set a new background image on my desktop. It keeps trying to open Outlook, as well.

Please let me know how I cna begin to get you the info (e.g. HijackThis) to help.

Thank you!!

Well I'm not sure what you have already done but here goes.I woud initially run MBAM and then SUPERAntiSpyware. and remove what they find. Try them I regular Windows mode first and if that doesn?t work then try it in safemode. To enter safemode gently tap the F8 key as the computer restarts. Let us know what happens.

Earlier today when I was on the computer it became unable for me to click on anything, I couldn't shut down, or use Clt Alt Dlt, so I turned off my power, when my lap top turned back on a privacy center scan appeared without my desktop showing up, it ran a scan for a minute and then about 20 error boxes appeared saying that I didn't have enough storage to process the information, this appears everytime I open up my laptop and I am unable to access anything accept, the only thing I can do is open up and internet page by clicking on one of the options in the privacy center, when I do exit out of all the error boxes their pictures remain on the screen and I am unable to see most things that are in the privacy center window

A:Privacy Center Issue

Just an update, I entered windows safe mode and it did not open the privacy center so I was able to access my files, I got AVG to scan my computer and I also deleted all my cookies. When I went back to the regular window mode it opened the privacy center again, with no desktop or taskbar, bu this time it was able to complete the scan, it won't let me fix the problems it detects because my license has expired so I'm still not sure how to get out of it and get my desktop and taskbar back. By the way I forgot to mention that my laptop use windows xp, any help would be much appreciated

This is a new one for me. The rogue security program seems to load before I can see the desktop. I can load the Task Manager and if the "end" the "PC.exe" process the Privacy Center screen goes away but I am left with a solid blue screen that is either hiding the desktop or not allowing it to load. Therefore i cannot run any of the usual removal tools.
Ideas?
Thanks

Good morning,I just looked at my computer this morning and found the Privacy Center virus running rampant. It blocks the running of applications, it reboots every time I try to start in Safe Mode, and now that I've rebooted, it comes up with this screen saying I have to update it and won't let me get past it. I'm running XP SP3. Before I rebooted, I tried to download and install Malwarebytes application. It downloaded fine, and installed fine. But when it tried to run itself, Privacy Center blocked its execution. I tried running the application in several different fashions, but all were blocked. It says the application is not found, it is infected, or is missing some piece of it. I've tried bringing up Task Manager to help with the situation. I see Privacy Center running (stopping it just clears it from the screen, but nothing else shows on the screen), and I see pc.exe process running, but I don't have the option of looking at its properties (as suggested on several other sites).Like I said, now I'm stuck at a Privacy Center screen that's asking for me to update it. I can see my windows wallpaper, but no applications are showing. I can stop Privacy Center with Task Manager, but then I just have my wallpaper showing and no applications or Start button. I am typing this from another computer. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you.

I am having an issue with all my resources being used by Ping.exe. I appear to have it temporarily resolved, but it starts back up frequently. This whole issue started when the Privacy Center "program" was inadvertently installed on our machine. I think I got rid of most of the Privacy center files, but I am not sure. I have run Malware and Adaware, Malware found and removed some files. However ping.exe continued to eat all the resources. I attempted to terminate and suspend Ping.exe but it just starts back up. I then found a process running called hki110793.exe and suspended it and ping.exe stopped restarting. I am in need of some guidance on what I need to do from here. Am I still infected with something or did that Privacy Center mess something else up.

Newby,
First time poster, (one of those guys that come here looking for help when they don't know where to turn)

HP Desktop, Vista, Mozilla Firefox, AVG 9, Spybots.

As the title states, something called Control Center has taken over my desktop; reading the descriptions of some of the monsters, I think this one is called a "ransomware". Powering on brings up the "Control Center" screen, and clicking on almost all of the choices gets me the message that I am not authorized to perform this action; however for a price, they will remove the many bugs that suddenly got into the pc. I can do the "ctrl alt delete", then go into task manager and end it, but then I get a blank screen, NO ICONS! The only other action that I can perform, is to get into the safe mode using the f8 key, but that is as far as my computer knowledge goes. It was suggested that I run the AVG in safe mode, but I have no idea how to do so. Basic stuff like powering on, connecting to the www, opening email, etc. is about all I am capable of. (By the way, I am presently working off of my laptop at this time)

Questions are:
(1) Once I learn to run anti virus in safe mode, will this cure my problem?
(2) Is there any place on this site that I might read up on how to run the AV in safe mode? If not, any advise on where I might go?
(3) If this will not help me, please direct me as to what I can do.

When I boot up the computer, all that appears is a control center window. I ran my cable company's virus protection scan when I noticed a new icon in the bar at the bottom and it removed some trojans, etc. I also ran MBAM and it found 5 more infected objects. Both instructed me to restart the computer to fully clean the infections. When I restarted is when the control center window appeared. I can do nothing else other than via task manager.

I have started in safe mode with networking and re-ran my shawsecure (web providers security) and MBAM. Both found more trojans, etc. but didn't get rid of the control center. The help line at Shaw suggested I install and run RegCure (cost me $41 USD) and did nothing for me. I also installed and ran STOPzilla.

Today the IT guy at my work suggested that I should run Combofix and sent me the link to your website. I printed the instructions for Combofix and it said to first create a topic here...so that's where I'm at!

Please help.

is it OK if i disable this at start up from msconfig? i mean the driver still loads right?

A:ati control center

If you mean the ATI CCC center, it is not required, but it has a lot of handy features.

The driver will be there ready when you need it; with or without the center.

PS: a new driver sownload as of 3/10.

Everytime I start up my desktop, a fake windows security center message comes up trying to get me to install a fake protection system software. When this windows security center message comes up, it also adds three shortcuts to my desktop to porn sites. This virus is hindering me from using various software such as Malwarebytes, Spybot, and it wont let me install Hijack this. Also, this virus is making Internet Explorer practically unusable (using Safari right now). Please help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

A:infected with fake protection system/ fake windows security center/ fake security center alerts

I forgot to put this, but I am using Windows XP
One of the sample messages from Security Center Alter asks if I want to block a suspicious software called Trojan.Win32.Agent.dcc. This "Alert" has popped up many time, but warning me about different trojans.
Also, in the lower-right tray, messages are continuously coming up saying stuff like keyloggers, exploits, and etc have infected your computer.

Hello, I am having issues with my computer. My computer is a windows xp 32-bit.

What is the model # of your video card?
Go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs, find CCC and Uninstall it, restart the computer. If you have a driver CD, put that in and reinstall it
or Go to the AMD drivers site Download Drivers have it detect your card or manually search for your card and download the latest driver. If your card is several years old, download the Legacy driver. BTW, you do not need to download the whole CCC suite, you just need the video driver.

hi guys, mother in law got the control center virus and got locked out of laptop, turns out her av expired 2 days earlier, i then asked why the heck was she on internet without it but you only learn by your mistakes. managed to get in by doing google search, ctrl, alt, del, end running app, ran malware bytes and removed most of the viruses but could only remove 2 by doing restart, so on restrt the virus is still there and malwarebytes could not remove it. tried to get into safe mode but bsod flashes up and boots me back to safe mode options again.
i have uninstalled the av and a few games that she had and ran hjt (all offline) but have since installed spybot & nod 32 currently scanning. can anyone help get rid of this thing.

A:please help with Catalyst Control Center

If you can't get CCC to work, and only need it for the fan control. You could try MSI Afterburner, and just use the fan control function.

I have a new Toshiba that came preloaded with a lot of stuff that I will never use.

The Catalyst Control Center is one of them. I tried uninstalling it using the built in uninstall program and during the uninstall it apperared that my pc went into safe mode without a restart. Is that possible?

After the uninstall and the required reboot it still looked like I was in safe mode-enlarged icons and kind of fuzzy. I probably should have just shutdown and restarted but did a system restore and everything came back to normal.

Just wondering if I should try again with a shutdown and restart after uninstall as I can't see me ever using this program.

From what I can understand it gives me a greater control of the graphics end of my pc.

A:Catalyst Control Center

Uninstalling the Catalyst Control Center probably uninstalled the video drivers. If the uninstall doesn't have an options section to allow you to specify which components to uninstall (Usually given a choice of Express or Custom (Un)Install), you'll need to re-install just the video drivers after uninstalling the Catalyst Control Center. If the Toshiba web site doesn't have a download for just the drivers without the Catalyst Control Center, you should be able to get the driver from the ATI web site.

Ok, I bought my computer (HP DV7 2043cl) with a Raedon HD 4650, and CCC was running when I got it. I was deployed to afghanistan and when I got back had a failing HDD, so I replaced it with 1 TB western digital.

I thought I installed all the correct drivers, but upon getting a bsod, realized this wasnt the case...

then I noticed the ATI CCC wont open up properly. looked online for hours, with different directions all leading to no anvil. using driver sweeper, and rebooting into safemode, uninstalling and reinstalling the manager. everytime I try and open it up, it says "Catalyst Pro COntrol Center cannot be started. There are currently no settings that can be configured using CPCC"

WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF

I dont think I will ever buy another product with ATI/AMD ever again as I have spent way too much time messing with this.

thank you for any help
I greatly appreciate it.

Calm down. Thanks for your service in Afghanistan, I've had the same issue or at least a similar issue. Give this a try.

Everytime I try to install programs, the installshield wizard pops up and goes right the ATI Catalyst Control Center install screen. The programs I am trying to install are not related to ATI Catalyst Control Center. I even uninstalled ATI Catalyst Control Center and tried installing the other programs again but the ATI Catalyst Control Center install menu came up.

Got any ideas why??
