Issue with HP Envy Laptop - Plastic Casing Quality

Q: Issue with HP Envy Laptop - Plastic Casing Quality

Hi, I have bought an HP Envy laptop from HP.com. The Laptop is working good, but the plastic casing is not good. It is making sounds if the lift the laptop or place my hand in the laptop for typing. I feel that the quality of the plastic in my laptop is very poor. I went to other stores like Costco and BestBuy and checked the same model laptops and the plastic is very good. Can you please rectify the issue with my laptop plastic casing as other laptops of the same model do not have any issues

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This computer isn't in-operable. The part of the computer (I guess the lid, not the screen, but where the motherboard is bolted onto) where the hinges are screwed on are completely worn out. The laptop no longer has anything holding down the lid hinges. Where would I get a replacement?

I've had this product for a little under 2 years. Today the fourth major problem with it occurred. The left hinge supporting the screen has come loose and is pulling away the base of the laptop. I can hear what sounds like cracking as I open the lid and a screw inside - moving around. I have treated this PC like a new-born baby so it is most defiantly a manufacturing fault. I?ve checked other threads and this problem has been apparent to countless other people with the same model PC. At almost £1000 I expect far higher quality from such a product. Had a known about these issue beforehand I would not bought it and I feel now I have been mis-sold the product as it is clear that it has a clear manufacturing fault with it. The fact that these products were not recalled for the faults with them is ridiculous. I would like to know what can be done about this in order to rectify the problem. Here is a link to the exact product details and an image below of the problem. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04356668 & http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/17-quot-HP-Envy-Coming-apart-at... I do hope that something will be done and I won't have to contact trading standards.

Hello HP, my name is Karl, i'm from Ireland and I'm posting in regards to my HP Envy m6. My name is probably in your books for repair and replacement on a couple of different occasions all pinpointing towards the same problem, the exterior of my laptop. Through researching different websites for selling second hand laptops such as eBay, donedeal  etc  in each case for the HP Envy m6 they all have the exact same issues and are being sold for a reason in order to get some sort of money for the poorly crafted laptop they bought for X700 plus. I enjoy the performance of the laptop, I've had it for four years and had it repaired with warranty I had, but no longer have. I'm not the only customer who has had this issue, proof lies in the forum search; http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?q=HP+Envy+M6+Broken+hinge Speaking for all of the unhappy HP customers, a recall on this extremelly common issue is much needed, i'm fully aware that there was a recall stated on the HP website, but I was never informed. For those who aren't as well off as others, repair costs for the hopeful 800 euro laptop in which was presumed to last by most customers who were capable of coughing up this money, is far too expensive. I would just like to squeeze as much time as possible out of this laptop as I'm currently low on funds and am facing the life changing exam referred to as the Leaving Cert. Side points;-life expectancy of the lap... Any way you can post a picture? Those large plastic components are very hard to come by and expensive when you can find them. Essentially you have to rebuild the laptop as at the factory so it is a big service job.

Hi Team,  I really appreciate with the service/quality provide by HP. For which I bought many HP products and suggest to other people to buy HP products. But I bought a HP Laptop as below description: Model No.- g6-2010AXProduct - B6U50PA#ACJSerial No. - 5CD2425F7L I usually use this laptop in office purpose and never fall/breakdown. But in normal use hinges from both sides broke which made it harder for the laptop to close properly and now the frame is breaking apart. Is there a way I can get replacements before other parts get messed up. Please do ASAP because my office work should effect due to this.   Thanks & Regards,Vikas Girdhar9910061587

Model:  HP Pavilion m6 Notebook PC 15".   Laptop used minimally and still in beautiful shape other than these noted issues:  Left hinge is broken away from plastic casing (see pic) and Right hinge is broken away from lid plastic (see pic).   From what I'm reading, it seems the plastic base, chassis, and possibly lid base and hinge need replaced.  Please let me know what HP is offering as far as replacement parts and repair.  This seems to be an ongoing issue with HP notebooks.  I've purchased a total of three HP notebook/laptops over the past four years so I'm very concerned about these issues and why HP has allowed it to continue for so long and across so many different models.  It seems to me the plastic used in making these parts does not have the tensile strength required in notebook/laptop use.  I would think this issue would've been corrected years ago and not have continued.  Please advise.  I do love all my HP laptops other than these issues.   Thank you.

Hello, I've owned my HP Envy for just over 2 years now, (2 years 3 weeks roughly) and I've run into several issues regarding quality.First, since the first month of ownership my Blu Ray Drive has had a poor fitment that results in a wobbling and unstable Blu Ray Drive. The second issue I incurred was with tmy laptop's casing. As of September this year the laptop case itself has parted from top to bottom resulting in not only screen wobbling, but an unclosable case that leaves me to question the computer's quality.  Third, as of Monday this week my Left Mouse Button has ceased to work. While the trackpad is one piece it's shocking to me that the Right Mouse Button continues to work, but having to tap the keypad each time I want to click is getting old and is interfearing with my work. This is the most expensive computer I have ever owned and I expected to able to bring it university with me next year, but with the underlying issues I no longer see this being a possability. I would love to not only see my problem adressed but to be resolved as university is expensive and I cannot foreseeably afford a new computer. Thank you for your consideration, Evan Brown

Just checking if there has been a fix for this since I see this has been a problem for many people. I as well noticed the hinge and casing pulling apart but never thought it was broken. Until the fan stop working and computer wanted to shut down. Quite frequently I heard the fan making screetching noises which probably had the plastic from the hinge and casing floating around it. My question is this an easy fix or just buy a new laptop. Paid alot of money for this and works great other than this problem. Thanks

Hello,I purchased an HP Envy Laptop my first year of College, and it has served me well to a point. But recently, I noticed that there was some separation happening in the body of the laptop, just next to the right hinge area. The "metal" and plastic pieces of the casing were pulling apart from each other. This began to cause problems with my disk drive as well, I believe. It became more concerning when it began happening on the right side as well, and likely caused problems with the fan.At this point, the left side of the casing, right by the vent snaps out and back into place whenever I open my laptop. As this is a problem that could be getting worse virtually every time I use the computer, it makes it stressful to enjoy my HP device. If this continues, more problems will undoubtedly arise.I need a solution to this, lest my HP experience be ruined.Thank you for your time. I do appreciate and respect it.

I have the  same problem described above. Envy 17 (silver) i5 - the corner of the case is spreading apart and now it is also happening on the right side. I have had to use gorilla tape to try to hold the case together.  It appears that this is a design flaw for this laptop. The laptop works, but over time, I'm afraid that it will get so bad that it will not run.  Is there a replacement case available?  Thank you.

Hello, I have a HP ENVY TS 15 Notebook PC and the casing on the left right over the fan and security cable is split. I think a little piece may have broken off.  The computer runs, fine, but the silver top, and the black bottom case are continually separating and it makes it really hard to open and close it and the screen is a ittle  wobbly. I've read through some of the other forums and so I think  I need to replace the casing, but do I also need to replace the top cover or anything else? The top cover looks fine, but i don't know,  it looks like the issue is with the case but I don't know.  Also, do I need special screws? I have the exact same problem described on many discussion boards.   Envy 17  - the corner of the case is spreading apart. Closed, I can press it back together, but when opened the corner pops open again.  It seems to get worse every time it's opened. Note also, the hinge on that side (left) looks like it is sitting lower than the right when open.I've read TONS of this complaint on the Internet. Is it true that these hinges are GLUED in place? Has this been officially recognized as a design flaw by HP yet? Has there been a warranty extension issued? This seems to be a very widespread problem. Thanks!

I have a shutdown issue on my H.P. laptop which was upgraded from windows 8.1 Did not have the issue with Windows 8.1. From what I have read online people can resolve this issue by unchecking the power settings on fast start up. This worked at one time but no more. I have reinstalled Windows 10 over the past year so many times to correct this problem but it keeps coming back. I hear that it is an Intel problem, but what do I know? I have H.P. tech support and Office Depot remote virus removal support and I also have taken it into the Windows store to have the tech guys there try and figure it out. No one can fix it permanently. H.P. updating drivers fixes it for the short term sometimes but it always comes back and the only option I have is to reinstall Windows 10 again.

I believe that I have a unique shut down problem which may make it easier to troubleshoot, maybe not but here goes. I have done the long and short hardware tests everything seems fine. My laptop shuts down just fine if I am on for under an hour. After an hour when I shut down the screen goes black, but the keyboard stays lite and the fans keep going. It does not seem to be a heat issue since I have a temp app. In fact I have tested my laptop by turning it on and walking away for an hour without even signing in. When I go to shut down, it won't shut down. Hitting the mechanical power button after this I have to keep it pressed an extra long time compared to if I pushed it after 1/2 hour when it would hav... We bought my son this laptop from Best Buy a couple of years ago.  He didn't really take to it because the track pad is so awful but he was just finally starting to use it (with an USB mouse) when Windows 10 came out.  The OS upgrade was a fiasco.  We almost couldn't get Windows 10 installed because Windows was reporting an issue with the fan.  After a 2 calls with Microsoft support and many hours we finally got the upgrade completed.  However, a few weeks after "upgrading" the operating system the computer stopped working altogether.   The message we get is the following:  The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly Then the system shuts down.  You can hit enter to allow the computer to startup normally.  It will still turn off though after a few minutes.  I just called HP support and was charged $243.00 to ship my computer to them and have this issue resolved.  What choice did I have?  Otherwise this is simply an $800 paperweight.  I asked if I could just purchase a warranty but apparently my calling support and reporting the issue would prevent me from simply purchasing the extended warranty for this machine.  (Although, I didn't try it).   Frankly, this is highway robbery for a product this age and for the amount of time this computer has been been in operation.  It had only been lightly used 50 or 100 hours at most.  This issue is reported numerous tim... Hiya, I've been having some difficulties with my laptop. I noticed my laptop was making a clicking noise when opening and closing the lid but I didn't think anything of it as I was able to use the laptop with no problems, however a week ago the screen graphics started distorting, at which point I realised something was wrong with the laptop. I noticed when opening my laptop lid, the bottom of the base (i.e the black plastic that covers the electronics) seperates from the rest of the laptop on the left hand corner. As a result the bottom of the base now has a crack between the base and left screw. I am now unable to use the laptop as I'm afraid of causing further damage.  The laptop is an envy m6 so any help would be appreciated as I need to the laptop for work purposes.

A:Plastic parts for laptop

Anything can be had at a price. Yours is non-touch so these are the possible parts, depending on color: Display enclosure (non touch models) Red models 856594-001 White silver models 856593-001 Noble blue models 856596-001 Turbo silver models 856592-001 Black models 856591-001 Teal models 856595-001 Iris purple models 900660-001 Power blue models 908289-001 Green models 908290-001 Lilac models 908291-001 From adverstising sites it looks like it is silver so, if so, this is the part: https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=75E6DEBCE613435ABD0F7F1B681E305C&SearchIn=PartNumber&SearchPN=856592-001 $42 from the HP Parts Store in the US, which is not bad. First of all, excuse be if there have been threads considering this issue, but I often seem to be the unlucky single one who gets certain difficulties.
Now, to the not-so-fun-part:
Recently, I've bought a SSD for my laptop, installed it as primary drive, installed Windows 7 Home Premium on it, and I used the product key printed on the casing of my laptop. (I did not format the secondary drive, still carrying my old installation of Windows 7 Home Premium, until I had migrated my data.)
At first, the Product key was accepted, until now, 3 days later. Suddenly, I get this "Activate NAO!" message.
As you might understand, I am quite frustrated.
Here is that report you want:

Dear Team,
Can any one guide me regarding the same?
I have a Toshiba HDD MK6025GAS which was originally in my Compaq Laptop. Because my Laptop has gone faulty I decided to backup all my data so I have purchased a Transcend External USB 2.0 casing. But when I am connecting the Drive in the external casing and connecting it to a system running Windows XP, it is not recognizing the drive. Itís saying that there is no drive. Where as HDD is working fine with other laptops.
Do i need to do any jumpering before connecting it to External casing?
Pls guide me. I am very puzzled. Please Help me.

I have seen this problem mentioned a lot: the casing of my laptop next to the left hinge is splitting open. When I open the laptop, it has trouble holding the screen up at the proper angle. There is now the additional problem that when I close the laptop, the right hinge sticks up, so that the screen half and the keyboard half of the laptop are farther apart on the right side than on the left. If I gently press on the hinge, it pops back into place. I bought the laptop in 2013 in the US, and I now live in Switzerland as a student. Overall I have been delighted with this laptop, which is my second from HP. It has worked well until now, but this issue with the hinges worries me. Is there some way I can fix this problem and prevent further damage to my laptop without paying a crazy amount of money (which I don't have) to give it to a Swiss repair shop? Thanks for any advice or assistance.

Where can I get the inner white plastic part to fix a key on my Pavilion DV7 keyboard?

A:Need a replacement plastic key part for my laptop keyboard. ...

You can start here.  http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=HP+dv7+key+replacement&_sacat...  If you plug in your specific model number on ebay you may get a closer match. There are a few different kinds, keep in mind it may be easier to buy a new keyboard, most are only around 15 to 20 bucks.  This guy seems to offer the best selection.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-DV7-BRONZE-COFFEE-Keyboard-Key-Replacement-Fix-/160473690639?pt=PCA_Mice_...

I have had my laptop for just under 3.5 years and it has served me great as a college student. Just now I tried opening the laptop and it made a cracking sound, after slowly opening it I found that the black plastic border on the lower right side is not anchored to the metal backing of the screen anymore. I can push it back in place but it doesn't snap in place. I would really like to get it fixed but not sure how to go about doing that or whether or not it is something I can do myself. It is pretty inconvenient as I have to be very cautious about opening and closing the screen and it is very inconvenient as a college student.

The top left hinge of my HP Envy 17t notebook computer cracked resulting in the bottom half of the notebook computer coming loose whenever the notebook computerscreen is adjsted, opened or closed. Apparently this is not an isolated incident as I personally know of two others that have the exact same problem. Are there others that have encountered this same issue?  What remedies and solutions have been found?
