hi everyone, i am trying to update to wmp10 but it won't complete the installation. it goes through the motions of an install but in the last 5 seconds is comes up with the error 'wmp10 was unable to install please run setup again.' this has happened @ 20 times so far. i have downloaded the set up from different places in case the file was corrupt but no change. it will not install the microsoft malicious tool thing at the moment either?? the reason i'm trying to update is that i can't play most embedded media files in web pages. it comes up with the error unable to create directshow player. so any help will be appreciated thanks

Preferred Solution: updating to wmp 10 ??? impossible

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good day everyone, I hope I'm in the right section.
I just received a Windows XP desktop for free from my local newspaper and like most used electronics, it has problems. One, is that it came with a beautiful Dell printer, without the installation disc, which is only one reason I don't want to set it back to facory settings. It also has many photo enhancing programs, some with disks, some not, that I'd rather not part with, so I decided to uninstall outdated and useless (to me) programs instead. This was when I noticed the problem. I'm not sure if it had it before I started removing programs.
The first program that was preventing a normal restart was sprtcmd.exe and when I looked up what it was, I found out that it was a rarely used, long expired program, Dell Support Care Center. I removed it then went to Windows Update and waited for hours while the whole computer updated, then when it was ready to restart, it couldn't, because this time, iexplore.exe was preventing it. This poor thing has either been running or in standby for 2 days now trying to find a solution to this problem. Can someone please help me?
Through my reading I've learned that iexplore.exe can either be the real command for Internet Explorer or a kind of spyware/malware/worm?, lexeplore.exe, something that can harm the computer. I'm not comfortable with advice or quick fixes from anywhere else (I've done both over the years and no one from here has ever steered me w... Read more

Hello, I hope someone can help us.

We recently upgraded to windows 7 and we're trying to download and install the newest drivers for the EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 video card we have installed. However, updating through Windows doesn't work and despite taking, from what I've read everywhere, the proper steps to uninstall the old drivers the right way, as soon as windows loads after the restart it automatically installs a set of
old drivers ( without letting me choose which drivers I'd like to install (the latest ones seem to be 257.21). Is there anyway someone can PLEASE list the exact steps ,in order,
the procedure for properly updating NVIDIA Video drivers in Windows7. And yes... I've been searching on this site for hours & have not been able to find an answer to my problem. I've done everthing I've found that's been suggested, i.e. Disconnecting from the internet, turning off virus scans, restarting in Safe Mode...nothing works. My wife says this is a great place to find answers and we would appreciate any help
Some Specs:
Windows7 64-bit
Intel i7 CPU 920 @2.67GHz

A:Solved: Updating NVIDIA Video Drivers in Windows7 is impossible

You need to uninstall the drivers using Programs & Features, but on reboot Windows will install drivers for it from Windows Update if the computer is connected to the internet or it will install older drivers that are included with Windows.

In almost all cases you can simply install the new drivers over top of the old drivers without any issues. Run the new NVidia installer and it will install the drivers. 99% of people do not uninstall the older drivers prior to installing the new drivers.

As the title says. 3 year old laptop that otherwise is still great, now useless due to Lenovo not updating the bios and preventing me from updating windows which made adobe illustrator and photoshop stop working, can't download codecs, etc. Windows support said until lenovo updates the bios I'm out of luck and have a useless machine. I can browse the internet and use apps that haven't tried to update... Lenovo was a great machine. I was a big fan. Due to lack of support for older machines and this ridiculous issue I would never recommend any business professional like me to purchase one. To have it literally just stop working one day due to lack of software upkeep on lenovo is just silly. Is this how you make people buy new computers? It worked, except I'm going to go to best buy and ask them to sell me a machine that won't stop suddenly due to the manufacturer not keeping it up to date. For the record this is the second time this has happened and lenovo updated a few weeks later. I use this for work and can not deal with my apps not working for weeks while I wait for lenovo to roll out updates... SO, dear Lenovo, update the bios of the y50-70, serial: CB36361936

A:My y50-70 is now useless due to lenovo not updating bios preventing me from updating windows.

What version of Windows are you running right now, what version are you trying to update to, and what error are you getting? Per Lenovo (see link below), that model is compatible with Windows 10 1809, but has not yet been certified for Microsoft's just released May 1903 update. Lenovo devices tested for Windows 10 version 1809https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht507291 When Microsoft makes major OS updates, the manufactures of hardware devices in your system such as like Intel, Synaptics and Realteck etc. may need to provide updated drivers to computer manufacturers such as Lenovo etc. so their hardware will work properly.  Windows 10 version 1903 is just now rolling out, so I cannot believe that Adobe is requiring version 1903 for codec updates etc.    I also find it hard to believe that it is a BIOS issue, and would guess that most likely Microsoft is blowing you off with that excuse, because there are many Y50-70 systems running Windows 10 already using the old BIOS. Windows 10 Drivers page for Lenovo Y50-70https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-y-series-laptops/y50-70-note...    Cheers,

Hello everyone,
Recently, I updated my HP laptop from windows 8 to windows 8.1. I got critical message from HP Support Assistant asking to update the drivers. I went to HP website, and see all the drivers specified for my laptop. I didnt get which one I have to install. I dont want to install unnecessary things that could harm the functionality of my laptop. Anyway, I opened the device manager in my laptop and checked the update for every driver. But, this message still appears to me. Any tips that can help me? Do you know the specified drivers I have to install? Or, Do you know a specific source I can use to know the needed drivers?

A:Updating from Win8 to Win 8.1. It needs updating drivers!

There's nothing "unnecessary" about the drivers, every piece of HW needs one.

Hey guys it's me again with my annoying and those that seem to be impossible-to-fix-problems.

Well 3 months ago i bought an AMD 5600+ Dual Core and i had lots of problems since then, believing it was defective, i wrote to AMD support and requested an RMA. My replacement arrived today. It fixed LOTS of random crashes and my computer was able to boot up properly with both rams placed on in dual channel. I went to play on Soulstorm, it crashed, sometimes half way through a game or sometimes about 5 minutes into the game. I went on another game which is Company of Heroes, it crashed too.

The only reason i tested these 2 games was because they crashed most of the times when i had the defective processor.I thought it was the RAM but i thought it wouldn't make any sense because while waiting for my replacement to arrive, i put in my old AMD Athlon 3500+ and it worked fine with EVERY SINGLE games so it couldn't be the RAM and it can't be the replacement either. Not knowing what else to do, i took one stick of ram out, and guess what? It worked like a charm ! I really have no idea what's going on inside but if anyone had been through this or anyone who knows how to fix please help and....ermm if it works you'll be able to rest assured that a person on earth is grateful and just wants to kill you with hugs XD

I have a folder in my external terabyte that appeared some time ago. I can not delete it with any software. I tried to delete with DOS and it says all the same. The problem is that it will not let me downgrade it to a write-able format. It seems to be locked in READ ONLY status. I have attempted to take ownership of the drive and the files, but I can not get rid of it. When I first noticed it, it was random letters. When I tried to delete the file it turned into many many "Z's". When I ran the DOS delete protocol it changed into 6 "Z's"; with in that folder is a empty folder called "Update". Since then I have not been able to do anything about it. I don't know what to do. I even downloaded a program called Delete on Boot, and still no success. I have been coming here for about a year when I caught the Rogue Internet Security 2010. It was since then, 12/30/09 the day that i reformatted to yield to the virus's victory that the file first appeared in the external hard drive. I am wits end and I know someone out there can help me. Please tell me what to do. I was told that it was very complex and destructive hack file. Am I infected again?

I have installed on my computer a new PC only version of Windows 8. I've not purchased a new PC for about 8 years so its impossible it came with the computer, I built the computer myself.

I remember I brought an upgrade copy of Win8 in error, I got it from PC world. I still have those disk but now I also have this new PC version. I remember going back to PC to tell them I brought it in error I also remember calling the MS helpline.

Can anyone make sense of this? How did this copy come to be working on this computer?

I'm currently wanting to do a clean install but I can't because I can't workout what happened in the past

A:How is this even impossible?

Sounds like you may have an OEM System Builder versions of Windows 8. It is intended to be installed by someone or a company building a new computer that is to be resold. That particular version includes a personal use license which allows anyone to buy an OEM System Builder copy of the software and install it on a (new or old) PC that is intended for personal use. It should have come with an installation key.

Hey guys,
I've got a really weird issue and and to be honest am running out of ideas. I was infected with the claro malware this past week which was easy enough to clear up and is completely gone. I noticed this past day that Im pulling a wrong network configuration:
Host IP - (not actual) on my laptop
DHCP server -
Default Gateway -
My DNS servers are correct, my usual scope is 192.168.0.x and gateway of
I can access the internet like usual without issue but can't rdp to any LAN pc's (obviously because of the subnet)
I did a netsh int ip reset command without any success and am kind of at a loss of what to do.
The claro maleware may have nothing to do with it but since it has to do with network settings I figured it was definitely a possibility but it is definitely 100% gone, all of my network settings should be reset to default, I definitely do not have any rogue DHCP servers on my network even though with the default gateway being wrong and still having access to the internet I don't see how that could be it anyway. If any one has any ideas I would be extremely grateful.

Thank You

Okay, this may seem needlessly complicated, but humour me.

I work at a school that has some students using a video program requiring the screen resolution to be set at a particular level (800x600 I'm told). The students do not have access to the Display Properties panel, presumable to stop them screwin around with any of the other settings.

Now, I've been told to find a setting in the windows registry that allows students access to the screen resolution property but NOT the actual Display Properties panel. Is this even possible?!? If so, any ideas on where the hell to find it? The OS is Windows XP.

If this isn't possible, does anyone have any suggestions for other solutions to this problem? Perhaps an app that allows access to certain aspects of the Display Properties settings?

cmd-manual deleting method.
MoveOnBoot method.
I have even done all of those methods with the HD booted as a slave.

any suggestions plz reply.

A:Ive Tried. Impossible to Delete!

Here is a simple procedure

Sometimes you want to delete a file but when you do so an error message pops and tells you it cannot be done. Do successfully delete such a file do the following:

Open a Command Prompt window and leave it open.

Close all open programs.

You now need to close EXPLORER.EXE. The proper way to shutdown Explorer is to raise the "Shut Down Windows" dialog (select "Shut Down..." from the start menu), hold down CTRL+SHIFT+ALT and press the CANCEL button. Explorer will exit cleanly.

Note: The <CTRL+SHIFT+ALT> at the 'Shut Down Windows' dialog method of closing Explorer is built into Explorer. (It was specifically designed so that developers writing Shell Extensions could get Explorer to release their Shell Extension DLLs while debugging them).

Go back to the Command Prompt window and change to the directory where the undeletable file is located in. At the command prompt type DEL <filename> where <filename> is the file you wish to delete.

Go back to Task Manager, click File, New Task and enter EXPLORER.EXE to restart the GUI shell.

Close Task Manager.

(Tip modification submitted by James R. Twine who has a great utility called Delete FXP Files that can help you delete files and folders that simply won't go away).

Try changing DVD discs brand, or using an external DVD rom drive. Perhaps yours is failing. If anything else fails, try installing from a USB stick.

Hello Guys, I have a really big problem which I can't solve it.
Recently I bought a 2GB Micro SD card from someone and I attempt to format it but i'm receiving a message: "Windows was unable to complete the format".
Tryed to delete them but an error is occurring.
I did an AVG Antivirus, SuperAntiSpyware, Trojan Remover and STOPzilla! scan but i find three viruses:
-Klif Trojan
but its pointless since after I remove them, they reapear.
I've attempted to delete them with Unlocker but it requires to restart and after that they reapear again.
I've even Booted a Partition Manager an wipe/delete the partition on the card using all the 35 steps format it and it took me 4 hrs. but no use. They are still there.
And even formating my card on my other friend's phones/digital cameras and is no use. The files are still there.
The card contains 220MB of corrupted, cross-linked and virused files. I tried to scandisk it but after the scan and repair, the same exact files remained there. Its like the card has a secret reservoir which replaces back all the "bad" files.
Table of files:
Folders: GFS_TMP, IMF090~1, IMF090~2, IMF090~2, IMF090~3, WA1D5E~3, WA1D5E~2(these folders contain files with weird names like random characters and various sizes like 3,5GB), WapTemp, sryk, Videos, Imsifolder, nane, Images.
The next files are hidden and can be found in the parent folder(SD card). Files marked with invisible cannot ... Read more

Hello, I have an application that needs port 1176 open for others to connect to me (I'm pretty sure thats how it works)

I have a D-link DI-524 and have followed the portforward website perfectly but, still no luck.
Nobody can connect to my server, my server isn't even detecting other people trying to connect to it.

I used www.canyouseeme.org and I get
Error: I could not see your service on *ip adress* on port (1176)
Reason: Connection refused

This is happened to me many times for as long as I can remember, only some times it will actually let me port forward certain things. Can anyone share some information to get me on the right track and possibly fix this problem?

Do you have any firewall installed on your server? (I presumed you do) Try to open that port in your firewall.

I recently had a bunch of viruses that messed up my entire computer.
I ran a bunch of spyware/malware scans and they found a bunch of things.

I ran an AVG scan, and it told me to restart so I did.
When it turned back on, nothing would load.
No start menu, no taskbar, no desktop icons, just a background.
The Task Manager says it's been disabled by the administrator.

This happens even in safe mode, and I can't get into the administrator account.

How exactly do I fix this problem? Is it even possible to fix this problem?
it's extremely frustrating.

by the way, I'm using XP professional.

Hello Deee,I see that you have an HJT log posted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/208223/hijackthis-log-something-about-win32/ We do not allow more than one topic for the same computer and the same issue as this causes confusion, and in this case may make the disinfection process more difficult. This leaves you with a choice:1) Have this thread reopened and the HiJack This log topic deletedOR2) Keep this thread closed and wait for assistance in the HiJack This log forum. Please note that that forum is VERY busy. Please send a Private Message indicating your choice.Assuming you wish assistance in the HiJack This forum, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possibl... Read more

A few months ago (April 2000), I ENCRYPTED a *.zip-file with the PGP-freeware (hope u heard of it). I wrote down my pass-phrase and de-installed the PGP-software a few weeks later, but let the file (xxx.zip.pgp) encrypted. Now I am in urgent need of this file I encrypted with the PGP software, but I CAN NOT DECRYPT IT with the current PGP software!!!! WHY?!?! I installed PGP-freeware 6.58, which is the latest one, and made EXACTLY the same passphrase like I did, to encrypt the data, but everytime I try to double-click the "xxx.zip.pgp"-file, PGP opens up a little window, telling me that my no pass sentence or something like that could be found! And when I click on the "unknown"-line in this window, the program tries to connect to a server, but everytime I get a "Server-error"! THIS SUCKS!
How do I DECRYPT a file which has been ENCRYPTED a few months ago, when another version of PGP was used?

Not sure if this is possible, but here goes.

A client of mine, has given me this Access application that they would like to make changes/enhancments to it. The problmem is this application has been package using the Access wizard which creates the executible file and all the DL files, but the client doesn't have any idea where the development copy is located. So I'm asking, is there a way to get behind this application to see the code once its packaged?

I don't think there is unless you have the source database the application was compiled from.

I'm attaching a pic of this application SnagIt7 which has no disinstallation mode, I'd like to uninstall this application, I tried with MyUninstaller, I tried in other ways but nothing.
What do you guys suggest me?

A:impossible uninstall

Have you tried going into C:\program files\Snagit? You can delete the program directly from the program files directory or wherever it may have installed (program files is the standard). If its currently running, kill it from the cntrl-alt-del menu and delete the entire folder from programs. If you get access denied and either cant kill the process or dont know what it is, start in safe mode and delete it from the directory.

I have an HP dv2000 laptop. I am trying to get the built-in webcam to record properly and I can't figure it out.

When I use the HP software for the camera that came with the computer, 10 seconds of recording is over 100 megabytes...and the quality is amazingly terrible.

I've tried for 1 year to figure out why the camera is like this, and I've had no luck. I've looked at all options, settings, etc, and there are none to change this.

Why is the HP cam like this? I've had the computer for a year and I am not even able to put a simple video on youtube!

Does anyone know why HP built-in webcams record 10 seconds using 100 megabytes?

A:Impossible HP webcam?

Try this non-Hp webcam driver: http://mboffin.com/stuff/Webcam_Chicony_Driver_5.7.28.400.zip

If it still causes issues go back and re-install the newest HP driver

Please let me know the outcome

I'm done, I have troubleshooted my PC thousand times just trying to solve it.

Here my specs:
Intel core 2 duo E4600 @2.4 GHz

4GB of DDR2 Ram(not buffered)

DELL P301D Motherboard For the Vostro 220s System (Is one of those motherboard which just handles core2duo and below cpus

XFX 4GB R9 380

Logysis 550w power supply

Dell Vostro 200 Bios 1.0.16

Windows 8.1 Pro (Not original)

Alright, so my problem basically is that my on my r9 380 which is not DEAD doesn t display at all on the monitor, but on board graphics are just fine, here is the list of things that I've tried already:

Reset CMOS
Change form VGA to HDMI and DVI
Tried 3 different monitors
Tried the graphics card on another setup
Tested display cables, they all work
Tried my old gt 740 And it worked fine on the board (SO NO PCI-E x16 Express problems)
Disabled On board graphics
Make pci express principal display
Make sure all cables were tight up and worked correctly
Graphics card receiving enough power
PSU working on others pc
Ram, all fans, cpu, everything good.

Another thing that is interesting is that I connected 2 display ports (1 connected to the graphics card and one to the board) Guess what my motherboard actually detects my gpu but obviously shows up the dell unsupported video configuration

Like this: https://www.google.com.do/search?q=unsupported+video+fo...:

I am still having wierd problems with my computer. It all started, when I installed Roxio Media creator 7 ( and than un-installed it cause it gave me problems.) It put in the standard VGA driver, and my graphics accleleration was dead slow. After re-installing the video driver, it is better, but still abnormally sluggish, It is a nice card, a ATI Radeon 9000 w/ 128 MB or RAM. There was a second monitor, but I removed it for troubleshooting. The PC has plenty of HD space, 1 GB of 333 RAM, and a 2.4 GHX CPU. It is running XP Pro. The motherboard is an Amptron 94-935ALU w/ a SIS651/962L chipset. I am a certified tech and have optimized it quite well. (No virus, spyware, de-fragged, etc.)
When I open my first webpage after sign on or switching screen names, it takes like 7 minutes to load. It starts with "downloading from site", than it goes back to "starting downloading from site", and it takes forever. It usually opens pages normally after that, but not always. Same thing happens even afterwards, if I start IE. And when I load WinMX, it starts scanning for shared files(1000's) and gets stuck in the place. It takes like 5 minutes to load. (It stops responding, will sometimes turn "white". Same thing with K-lite, like blocks of it are missing, the graphics are all screwed up; it takes 6 minutes to load. (Could it be something with frames?). Same thing loading Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004. And some programs I install, take an u... Read more

OK, this is not a hasty reaction - I've had a laptop with Windows 7 for over a year and I cannot use it, at all. I've tried many, many times over the last year and it has wasted hours and hours of my time just trying to do what I do on my XP desktop. Please don't try to dissuade me - I HAVE TO put XP on my laptop now. W7 is a joke - trying to find files on a memory stick took me an hour today - where was the View button? Where was "arrange files by name"? Instead of some random order courtesy of Microsoft. OK so it's a right click but I want a button! I mustn't go on. I have an XP disk - I could just overwrite W7 and get rid, I think. I am really just asking whether I could/ should keep W7 in the background somehow - in case I am forced into ditching XP at some later stage when MS decide to cease support on it. However if it's complicated and takes more hours of my time, then forget it. So do I just insert my XP disk and go? Or what?

A:W7 impossible - need XP back!

Well you bring up two questions. First is how to install Windows XP and second is should you keep windows 7 in the background.

To install Windows XP, insert the disk in your cd drive, reboot the computer, hit any key to boot from CD, and start the installation process. You have the option to use the whole drive or not. That sort of depends on whether you already have a Windows 7 disk available. If you're that unhappy, I'd simply install Windows XP and be done with it. Sounds like you're unable to get Windows 7 to work as you'd like it, why fight it?

As a cautionary note, make sure you BACK UP ANY DATA YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE prior to starting the installation of XP. Shortly MS WILL be discontinuing support for XP, but I believe that's in 2014. You still have some time.

One other potential option available to you is if you have Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate, or Enterprise, you are licensed to download and install Windows XP Mode which allows you to run both at the same time.
