Windows 7 SOUND, No Speakers in Playback device, thus no sound from speakers

Q: Windows 7 SOUND, No Speakers in Playback device, thus no sound from speakers

Hi guys, just reinstalled windows 7. everything works great, then I went to paly a file and to my surprise, no sound. Tested speakers on another device, they work. Sound card drivers are working and up to date.

When I play a media file, I can see the sound gage go. So I went in sounds, playback device, and all I see in there is my sound card, no speakers or headphones icon. Thus no sounds from speakers. Tried other headphones/speakers they also dont work on the PC.

First two screenshots are my Device Manager, third one shows my playback devices.. My wife needs this for her business and I am losing sleep over this for days now I tried everything. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi -

What sound card do you have?

Double-click on the HD audio device in Device Manager - what is driver and date?

Usually there is an audio codec/ drivers, e.g., IDT, Realtek, etc... that must be installed.

What are system specs - exact model number from label on back of PC, please.

Hello Guys,

I have been living for the past week without music.. There is no sound coming out from my Lenovo Thinkpad laptop's speakers. No sound when I play movies and songs... When I try to skype, it says "Problem with play back device". No sound too when I connect my earpiece to my laptop.

I use windows vista. My laptop's sound driver is SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio. Based on my "Manage audio device" options in my control panel, I have 2 sound drivers.

Speakers
SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio

and

SPDIF Interface
SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio
When I right click both drivers and click "Test", it says "Failed to play tone". I have tried reinstalling the SoundMax driver but it does not work. Friends, what else can I try to solve this issue?

A:No sound from my laptop's speakers. Problem with playback device

Any errors showing in Device Manager?
Are the sound devices specifically listed there?

I assume you downloaded the driver from Lenovo support website, not from anywhere else, as only Lenovo has the correct, compatible driver.

I have no sound on my new Windows 10 PC.
Things I've tried:
1) Uninstalled and reinstalled sound drivers with multiple restarts
2) Checked power is connected
3) Checked speakers are connected via the green jack
There's another fix I was trying in the Playback Devices window but when I look there, my speakers aren't even displayed.

Thanks.

Hi there,

I have an ASUS P8Z68-V LE motherboard and I am having a problem with my sound. I just bought this new computer and after frigging things around to get my video card to work, my audio decided to stop working. It is weird because it shows that there is sound on screen (the volume bar goes up in green and down while playing a video etc), but there is no sound at all. I've plugged in my speakers in the proper 3 ports (green, orange and black) to no avail. My headphones will also not work. I've checked to see if the onboard sound was enabled and it was. I've downloaded and reinstalled the drivers twice. Nothing.

Any help would do!

edit: There is weird noise coming from my speakers when plugged in and when I turn the volume up and down it sounds like someone is blowing into a microphone

With Dell Support Assist microphone test -- earphone playback is good, on-board speaker is terribly scratchy. The sound card lists as "ATI high Definition Audio Device" and "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC."
The laptop is Dell Studio 15 (1555) running windows 7 Professional, 236GB used, 214GB free space, Intel P8700 2.53 GHz Processor, 64 bit OS, 4GB memoryThe built-in speakers used to sound good but now they are too scratchy to understand. However the headset and external speakers (both 3.5 mm jack interface) sound good and a HDMI connected projector sounds good.
I will appreciate advice.

A:On-board speakers are scratchy but external speakers & headphones sound good?

Hello. As a test, switch from the IDT audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "IDT High Definition Audio Device".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the IDT driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If you get the noise while using the native driver then it is not a driver issue, which would mean there is a strong chance of speaker failure, particularly since the noise is not in headphones. If you would like to replace the speakers I can point you to the service manual.

Good morning everyone,

I am having issues with sound on the M92 or G1U3306 as stated on the subject. The sound works perfectly fine for everything with the exception of Istation, www.istation.com. I did notice that this is only affecting 2 out of the 20 plus computers we have, so its a bit hard to say its just the model. I have tried updating the drivers to the latest version, and as well verified that it was not just the input device for front and back jacks being wonky. Oddly enough the support agent I worked with, used TeamViewer and was able to hear the application just fine, however when I used speakers it was very, very faint but I could also hear it.

Is there any general help anyone can provide me to pinpoint the problem further?

Dell Auto Update you're referring to is Dell Support Assist? If no, I suggest you diagnose Audio with Dell Support Assist. Most Dell systems have Support Assist pre-installed. You can check by typing Support Assist onto [Cortana] search box or right click windows logo and then click on 'Programs & Features'. I am currently trying to restore sound to my speakers. Anyone have an effective method for doing this?
I have no volume keys on my Logitech keyboard.
My speakers are turned on; electronic sound when turned on, blue light on. But the volume knob on controlling speaker produces no sound in any position.

One other procedure I tried wasn't successful either: The "voice-mixer" something or other:  I moved the volume scale sliders all the way to the top (100%) on two available procedures.  At the bottom of each there were options to "mute"
or "un-mute."
I tried "un-mute", no success. I tried the alternate just in case, no success either.

I updated my drivers; no success either.
I was hoping I could resolve the problem some time today.
Help!

Thanks.

Yes I am aware that there are threads with this questions and none of them have any solutions apart from reinstalling drivers, reformat the HDD, reinstall the OS blah blah. My laptop model is E420 and none of the above work, the Lenovo drivers are all out of date, buggy pieces of crap for Windows 8 PREVIEW not 8 or 8.1 or anything. There are also a whole host of problems mostly buggy drivers. So here's what I have done so far:1. uninstall and reinstall the sound driver from Lenovo website - didn't work2. Repeated 1. - didn't work either3. Checked the sound control panel - the sound device is default and enabled4. Checked the device manager - sound device is working correctly5. I have a lenovo u310 ideapad touch and had lots of sound issues after updating to 8.1. When trying to test sound i kept getting the "failed to play test sound error". I would uninstall and reinstall and nothing.  Solution for me: So i went into control panel/sound. Double click on sound, and then go to the recording tab "the second tab from left". If there is nothing showing in the window, that means that all devices are disabled. Right click inside that window and choose to show disabled devices. Then enable the stereo mix, which is the default device.  That worked for me. I had tons of issues and was fed up of having no sound watching things on my ideapad. Let me know if it worked for you!!!

Yesterday I installed a new external hard drive - following the installation - my sound no longer played through my television (video is fine, HDMI connection) and sound now comes ONLY through the laptop speakers.

The option for HDMI Audio doesn't appear in the 'sound' menus. I have 'checked' "shoe disabled" and "show disconnected" in those menus.
Basic Specs:

DV7-4060us

Windows 7/64bit

IDT High Definition Audio Codec

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon 4250

I have tried the following fixes gleaned from other forum posts on similar forum posts:

Uninstalling and reinstalling IDT drivers - didn't work.

HP driver 'recovery manager' to install 'original' IDT audio codecs - didn't work.

Unistalled ATI Video Drivers , and reinstalled them - didn't work

System Restore to a week ago - didn't work.

I use my HD TV as my primary monitor for gaming, so having sound through laptop speakers and not TV is quite annoying.

Perhaps my only solution is another sound card?

A:no sound through tv via hdmi, sound plays through laptop speakers (idt

So you're trying to get audio to play on your TV from your laptop? Since you said the video is fine it's obviously not the video drivers. It sounds like the sound output is configured wrong. I don't think it would be labeled as HDMI. HDMI is just DVI with HD Audio. Try altering your sound settings to see what you can get.

Audio is a very difficult thing to diagnose and fix.

Microsoft rarely mandates a roll back to a previous version of Windows... if you received a notification via email or by phone that told you to roll back to an earlier release of Windows OS it may have been a scam or virus (trojan horse) attack on your computer.  I would strongly suggest scanning the computer for virus / malware with a top notch anti-malware suite such as Malwarebytes as soon as possible.

Also - to restore your system to factory specifications / software state you will need recovery disks.  If you did not make them when you first set up your notebook, or have misplaced them they still may be available to purchase from Lenovo Support.

Good Luck.

A:Why would on-board speakers sound scratchy but headphones sound OK?

You Dell Studio 1555 laptop uses IDT HD audio driver for the built in laptop speakers.
The ATI HD audio driver is only used if an HDMI connection to an HDMI monitor (with an HDMI audio/video cable) is used.

possibly a driver conflict with IDT audio, built-in speakers may be malfunctioning or dirty (gotta have them repaired if it's a hardware problem and not a software problem). just listing the possible causes for the scratchy sound.

So I've got a problem,I changed my case 2 days ago and everything went great, all working as it should be.Up until an hour ago, when the lid got stuck in one of the little clips so after a quick bang it went in.But then I lost my picture on both monitors.
So I went to investigate,I ended up moving the GPU over to the other 16x slot and it is now fine.
but since then I've lost all sound through either the front or rear jacks,It is saying that the speakers are not connected.I've done all the usual checks,as in default devises, drivers.Everything I can think of I have done.I have tried a new cable, and tested through both of my phones and the speakers work fine.I've also tried a few sets of headphones in both jacks. There is a faint hiss sound when I turn the speakers on,that has just started.
I have managed to get sound through my tv via HDMI,but every time,I go into audio manager and lets say change from soft to hard,I loose the sound again, and have to set the HDMI as default again.this too has just started.
I'm using the on board realtek audio sound card ,on an Asus p8z77-lx motherboard.
Just a quick note when I plug in the jack, there is no beep and the pop up screen does not appear as normal.
To me it is pointing towards a motherboard problem, with the 2 problems happening together.Any help would be great.

Hiyya Paul mate sounds like (no pun intended) that thump dislodged something on the board just carefully move the I/O output block and see if there is any movement, could be something a simple as dry joint but which is going to be hard to find and fix.

If you have some warranty and I know it is a PITA having to reef it all out again but.....

Personally I have the P8Z77-V and I just stuck an Asus Xonar DG card in the thing and there is no comparison really and you get one heck of a control centre. Not expensive I don't know about where you are but out here $35 so both my Ivy and Sandy Bridges have them.

When I went to play a DVD film with the bass woofer speaker set to 6 the 2 rear speakers produced no sound. It is only when i switch back to 2/4 setting that they work but I suspect are just duplicating the front L& R speakers to simulate surround sound.

Is it anything to do with how i have wired them up. the back of the base unit doesnt correspond to the 251 system booklet. The 3 top vertical connections ( back of base unit) are marked ( from the top) cntr/lfe pink; rear purple, s/pdif-yellow. The leads are unhelpfully BLUE, GREEN and YELLOW so do not match. Also the yellow jack is too small to take any lead.

The horizontal set of 3 below are coloured yellow ,green and blue! Yellow has a microphone symbol, green has a " tree" symbol above it as has the blue.

Help please so that I can get all the speakers working as they should with the sub woofer switch in 6 channel position"

Well I sent this email to the PC supplier and talked to them on the phone. they confirmed that connections OK and sound card fitted to operate 5.1.channl sound.
Checked Sound properties in Control panel and even the test zone dialogue box tests all 5 speakers as OK but still no sound from rear speakers on the 6 channel position.
All they could offer was for me to send speakers back to them f... Read more

did all the speakers sound when test in via hd audio deck or windows 7 audio control panel?

if yes, most likely you will need to enable the 'upmix' feature of VIA. I'm not sure what is it called, but in Realtek it is called Realtek Speaker Fill or Dolby ProLogic IIx. If there isn't any, you may want to try Channel Mixer for foobar2000.

Hey guys, first of all merry christmas and happy hollydays to everyone.

I just instaled a fresh new copy of windows 7 on my computer and i have everything up and running smoothly.
When I installed my Xfire xtreme music card drivers and after everything finalized, i noticed that when i open my creative console launcher, i only get 2.1, 4.1, 5.1 and 7.1 speaker settings when the one i want is 6.1.

Ive read it somewhere in the internet that vista/creative doesnt support 6.1 yet but the post was from 2007..

Can anyone give me some lights overhere?

Thank you guys.

Good day,

before of you read, sorry for my bad english :D

ok, i have the old pc HP Compaq 6735s oldiest model and have problem.. I have the headset Plantronics .Audio 655 DSP... Its USB (no Jack) headset, but sound is crackly and randomly.. Microphone is good, no problem, also speakers... I tested in another pc, and work correctly (Win 7), also in WIN XP not installed drivers.. I telled the makers of headset and reply is here:

Quote:

So in the Windows 8 now it does not work? It was not an XP as I said? In that case it is most likely incompatible. Think about that the headset is made years ago while Windows 8 just released. Contact Microsoft and check if they have any updates to the USB drivers that will be able to use older USB devices?

I tested reinstall USB drivers, not work.. I tested install sound drivers, but for Win 8 not found...

Hello GAMELASTER and welcome to TSF,

Your USB headset does not rely on the Audio chipset.

The Plantronics website touts it as not needing software... I can't find any issues similar to yours by searching the WWW, so I have no base to work from.

Just so I am clear... You are running Windows 8 on a Compaq 6735s?

Try using a different USB port.

Have you had any other issues since upgrading to Windows 8?

I just upgraded to Windows 10 a few days ago and ever since, I've been getting a random popping noise in my speakers. It's driving me mad! I have tried everything I can think of. I've updated my drivers and my Bios. (From HP site) I've uninstalled and reinstalled the audio (Realtek) driver. This problem never happened in Windows 8. Any help will be appreciated, I'm about to switch back to Windows 8.

Check your DPC latency with something like LatencyMon

Press play and let it monitor for a few minutes, if the bars with the highest interrupt to process latency , dps and isr routines goes to red switch to Drivers tab, sort by Total Execution Time and see what you have there. The drivers with the highest execution time can be responsible for your sound popping issue.

My Fujitsu Siemens LI1705 has been upgraded by my Son, first from Vista, then XL and finally to Windows 7. After accepting a recent upgrade, the external speakers have stopped working. The ones i have are made by Technica and worked fine until the upgrade. Since then i have purchased some new ones, made by H.P. that utilise the usb port. I inserted the c.d. provided and was informed that they were incompatible. Therefore i am still without sound [except for the laptop's own built in speaker.]
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You.

I recently bought a new computer. Finally went from WinME to WinXp. I have outdoor speakers which when I used WinME I would simply unplug the desktop speakers and plug the outdoor speakers in (its wired). Anyway, i could hear all my tunes out by the pool etc...

Now when I unplug the desktop speakers and plug in the outdoor speakers. some sound thing (RealTek HD Audio Manager) pops up and asks to check line out, line in, etc... I went through that process and still no sound outside.

Any help to get the outdoor speakers working again would be appreciated.

So I have some Logitech USB speakers, and when I'm playing music, commonly when its loud, the DIGITAL light on them blinks, and I have to disable them and then enable them for them to work again. It happens with Musikcube and Winamp, and its getting annoying. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

P.S all drivers are updated

A:USB speakers freeze sound, not windows.

Are these USB bus powered speakers? If so, that could be the problem on high volume levels. If you want "high" volume levels best to get standard self powered Analog computer speakers.

I have 5.1 surround sound speakers and a realtek sound card, and when I do the sound test everything is fine, but when I come to play anything, the sound only comes through the front and rear speakers on the right. I have tried alot of things that I found while searching the net but still found no luck. I installed winamp and the sound comes through all speakers but is very bad quality no matter what play.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

A:5.1 - sound only coming from 2 speakers in windows 7

I'm in the same situation, but with Supreme FX-II that comes with Asus Rampage Formula. Worked just great with Win XP Prof x86. I've now tested a lot of drivers with this and with every one of them the sound comes from the rear speakers while testing, but when I try to play music with winamp or watch videos with VLC the rear speakers won't work.

I'd appreciate some help also.

Ps. I think of trying to install the old drivers in compatibility mode. Will tell if I get lucky.
