firefox won't work and IE generates heaps of pages

Q: firefox won't work and IE generates heaps of pages

yesterday i went to open firefox, it just sat there, totally blank, unable to click on anything. So i went to IE....it worked ok, then suddenly started generating sh*&loads of new pages.....kinda like when you win at solitaire.
i did a Hijack this, ran adaware/spybot/avast/ewido........did not find a culprit.
Today, firefox still just sits there, IE seems to be behaving.
Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: firefox won't work and IE generates heaps of pages

Uninstall and re-install firefox is about all I can say to try right now. Also be sure to check how firefox connects, make sure its still set to however you connect.

Dunno about your IE problem, that doesn't sound healthy, but if you ran all that crap and didn't find anything then I guess thats all you can do.

I suppose the title says it all, my computer has some sort of infection where every search in google in both firefox and internet explorer redirect the searches to random pages. Additionally, typing in certain addresses simply won't load where I know the page should work, such as certain links on microsoft.com. Furthermore, I have enabled Automatic Updates and it tells me that it is not enabled even though it clearly is in the settings and going to the update page through internet explorer simply does not work. I have read through various other forums here at bleepingcomputer.com and followed their instructions but nothing has fixed the problem so I figured I'd post as well and start fresh. A huge thanks in advance to whomever is able to help me out. So, where do I begin?

I have a PC with Windows XP Professional. When I print a hard copy of an email, it generates anywhere from 21 to 27 pages, with all but one blank. Generally, the emails being printed are short and should only result in a single page.

This started happening with Outlook Express, so I loaded Outlook 2000 - assuming there was something wrong with my copy of Outlook Express. It didn't help. I still get multiple pages.

This PC resides on a network. I deleted and reloaded all my printer drivers, which did not help.

No other software on my PC does this. All other printing is normal except when printing emails.

Any help is appreciated.

A:Printing email generates extra blank pages

Does it happen when you print direct to the printer, ie not via the network?

Hello

Usually I can't access websites using IE from my dormitory, although all other internet related programs work fine.
Intranet websites from my school also don't load.
Using IE's search function with Google (my previous default) also loads the search page, although I can't view the results. Bing doesn't work.
If I connect via VPN (HotspotShield) I can access all websites with IE.
Downgrading and reinstalling IE and resetting security levels also didn't help.
I connect via local area connection with IPv4 and enter additional login information in a website that loads automatically. IP address and DNS server address are also obtained automatically. I don't use a proxy.

If I connect to my work VPN, then IE refuses to load any pages (inside the work network or outside). It doesn't even appear to try, just goes immediately to "Internet Explorer cannot display this page." I was able to connect to the computer with teamviewer remotely, name resolution worked properly, I was able to ping the web server etc. all fine, even brought the page up in FF and Chrome with no problems. I turned off all add-ins and restarted IE, same deal. If I disconnect from the VPN then IE works fine again.

I was running IE9, I tried uninstalling it but having the same issue with IE8.

Hi,
It would be so great if someone could help me a really annoying problem that I've been experiencing recently. In Internet Explorer and Firefox, I can't right click on any of the web pages to load them in another window/tab. My right click works fine on my desktop and in my folders but IE and Firefox this problem occurs. Also, when I click to open a webpage (and it can be any webpage), my laptop is redirected to a different webpage (normally adverts). This is becoming so annoying, as I have to copy and paste all the links into the address bar. Anyway, I took the advice that I found on here to use Malware, which I already had on my laptop but this didn't open. I scanned using AVG and CCleaner but couldn't get into the Malware scanner. I eventually managed to get it to work by changing the name and there were about 10 threats which I deleted successfully. However, I am still having the same problem. I downloaded the hijackthis scanner. Here are my results - if anyone could help I would really appreciate it!! Thankyou!

I write a blog, which I built using WordPress; however, I keep seeing red colouring on some of my links which, when clicked on, takes me through to either a "page not found", or to advertisments from an organisation called "Local Pages": I have tried to contact "Local pages", without success! Periodically, the links to my "Recent Posts" and "Recent Comments" also appear to be red cloured, and sometimes go dead. The RSS reader icon is sometimes affected also.I think that the red colouring that appears on some of my links is, somehow, linked to the No/dofollow facility when the right mouse is clicked.

Hi,

I appear to be having trouble with my firefox browser.

My operating system is Windows 8.1. I have an Acer Aspire V3-772G which I bought some 18 months ago.

System details:

Processor: Intel® Core i7-4202MQ 2.2GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
Installed Memory (RAM) 16.00 GB DDR3 L Memory
System  type: 64-bit Operating, x64- based processor

A few days ago my firefox browser, which for no apparent reason at all, just seemed to slow to a stupendously very slow loading of pages. I had recently just been working on an issue in which I posted a thread regarding whether there was a possible virus/malware after google chrome terminated with the following message from Hitman Pro Alert:

Attack Intercepted
'Google Chrome 49' has been terminated to prevent execution of malicious code. Please check your computer for malware and software updates

As it happened, it appeared to be because of a conflict somewhere in the Google Chrome, Trusteer Rapport and Hitman Pro Alert combination, and so the only way was to change the settings on Hitman Pro Alert as advised and shown in my thread:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/611273/possible-virus-or-malaware/

However, there was no malware or virus detected by my own Avast or Malwareware bytes tools, and the tools used as instructed in the thread also showed my system to have none. Also, google chrome works fine, and my computer has not slowed in any way. My fir... Read more

Hi. I'm new to win7. A friend installed win7 pro 32bit a few days ago and I've been installing and refining programs. Mus say I was pleasantly surprised how fast it installed. Way faster that xp

A downside - I notice it is using an alarming amount of ram on startup and when all is stable - 600mb. That is before any apps have been started. Now that I have started Firefox and this forum we are up to 670mb.

This is verified in Task Manager.
Got any isea's on how to reduce this amount or is this the norm for win7 pro.

A:Using heaps of ram

You need to see if it is really *used*, of if Windows is just caching. Open resmon (start > resmon.exe) and switch to the memory tab - this will actually give you an accurate indication of used vs standby vs free. Windows 7 is not like XP, in that it'll precache all kinds of things it expects you to use in RAM (superfetch), and will learn over time the best way to do this. This cache can be removed (and will be by the memory manager) if other things need the RAM, of course, but Windows tries to do the best job it can to put things in RAM it expects you to use at some point, so if there's free RAM, it will cache things. Assuming you don't have a memory leak on a newly installed system, this is likely superfetch doing it's job and nothing to be alarmed about (this is a common post by folks new to Win7, by the way).

It started up good but then i could only play DVD disks and blank cd disks only. If the dvd disks got something already on it like the windows vista disk it plays. If i put in a music cd or a driver cd in it will not play. It asks please insert a disk and thats when i put in the blank disk and will burn to it. Take it out put it back in and it wont play.

Then i reset vista by reinstaling it still same problem and now it will not reconisge that i have a ethernet card and it seems to be not reconisging my graphics card.

I have a good computer very high specs like 4gb ram nvidia geforce 8800 graphics card and things like that so i dont think it be cos of my specs in the computer.

A:Heaps Of Antimalware

I don't think you are at the stage of overkill , although i would say you don't need Spywareguard as you can protect your home page with either Spywareblaster , Winpatrol or , as you are already doing , with SpybotSD/Teatimer .

I've tried SuperAntiSpyware , and although i felt it was a good enough app, i didn't feel it offered me any more protection than i'm already getting............for the record i use Winpatrol , Ad-Aware SE , Spybot , AVG , Sygate.....and of course , once in a while , an online scan , Trend Micro or Panda.
All these free apps have served me well for the last three years , along with a careful surfing and downloading attitude , and i believe you can only really go with what works for you.

Over the last few months I have been experiencing the occasional pop-up (even with my pop-up blocker functioning), but nothing too severe. However, last night a 'Windows XP' bubble appeared telling me my computer was 'infected' with spyware and then begun to download 'SpySheriff' in order to rid my computer of this spyware. Little did I know, this SpySheriff is spyware in itself, and consequently sent my computer into turmoil. Pop-ups became very frequent and severe, sometimes 2-3 in the space of a single minute. Ok hi guys,
I have southpark season 1-3 on 12 CDs.
What i want to do is make so i am able to have all 30*(1) episodes on the
one*(2) DVD and make it so that its playable on a DVD player. when using my producing program it makes it so i can only have approximatley 8 episodes on one disc.

So basically i need a way to compress it. Technically, if i could get a menu etc, could i just use compressed vobs that are like 150-200mb each??

*(1) give or take a few episodes.
*(2) at least get like 15 on one DVD.

A:Creating a dvd with heaps of episodes

You can fit many on one dvd, but the quality is so low that you can see the pixelization.

A dvd can fit up to 7 cd's. So 8 makes sense.

My guess is either your movie app is limiting or you haven't used the right functions. Such as wide screen and letter box. Google TMPGEnc

I have recently started using a couple of p2p programs and since then have started receiving an eset warning about a threat called virtumonde, in a file called efcdaxu.dll, but everytime it tries to delete it, it simply resurfaces immediatly.
It doen't seem to be causing too much trouble, although I am starting to get way more unwanted popups than I ever have before, and the fact that I cant get rid of the Nod32 warning is getting a little annoying.
Also spyware guard found a new BHO that it couldn't get rid of.

I went through your 5 steps although I couldnt get the online scan to work (simply wouldn't load in the popup window) so I skipped it.

Hi ryangodammit,

Welcome to Tech Support Forum!

I apologize for the delay getting to your log. The helpers here are all volunteers and we have been very busy here lately. If you are still having malware problems, I will be glad to help.

OK, let's do this first.

Please download VundoFix.exe by Atribune and save it to your desktop.Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
Once you click YES, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new ComboScan log.

NOTE: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears at reboot. Run VundoFix and scan for Vundo as many times as necessary until VundoFix says "No infected files were found".

Hi there,

My computer has been going really slow the past week or so. I DL Mban last year and have used to very successfully. each time I have used it, it has found threats on my computer and cleared them. For the past month or so I have used to 3 times and it has come back saying "No threats found" I thought this was weird. I Downloaded Super Anti Spyware over the weekend and it found 93 Threats on my computer and cleared them. My computer ran smoothly for a day or so and now its back to its congested self.

I always see heaps of iexplore.exe*32 files in the task manager. A few other that are there which i havet seen before are -

Tabtip.exe
Tabtip32.exe*32
wisptis.exe
BoostSpeed.exe*32
conime.exe*32
CSRSS.exe
splwow64.exe
bounjour.exe

Do you think my computer is infected? It keeps freezing too, which it rarely did before. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated :-)

I am attempting to boot from a USB drive on my old Toshiba laptop. I wish to install a newer version of Windows or a Linux distribution such as Ubuntu. The computer is very slow and I would like to reformat the whole thing and installed something else. I am making the bootable USB drive using Rufus.

Roadblocks:

In order to be able to boot from a 'MBR partion scheme for BIOS or UEFI-CSM' bootable USB drive, I must disable 'Secure Boot' in the BIOS options of the laptop. The problem is that no where in the BIOS is there a a setting for this. There should be a 'Security' tab that would have these options but it is not there.

The other option would be to create the USB using MBR or GPT for UEFI, but no matter which disk image I try to use, Windows XP, Windows 7, Ubuntu 12.04/14.04/15.10, none of them work. Rufus simply says: "Unsupported ISO: When using UEFI Target Type, only bootable ISO images are supported. Please selected an EFI bootable ISO or set the Target Type to BIOS".

I cannot find a way around this no matter what I try. The two solutions I know for getting this to work do not work themselves. I need to either disable 'Secure Boot' in the laptops BIOS settings or make a GPT-UEFI bootable USB drive.

Edit: I would not consider booting from a DVD/CD to be a solution to the problem. Booting from USB is the goal.

A:Problems with slow start up & shutdown & heaps of events

Can you check something for me.

Click start
In the search box type "services.msc" (no quotes).
See if you have 2 services that start with "cyberlink"

If you do. Right click the service and go to properties, and change the setting from automatic to automatic (delayed start) on both of them.

Reboot

Let me know if that fixes it. I've had that issue with ALOT of HP laptops and desktops.

I have Firefox/2.0.0.7.
When a PDF page starts to open the window freezes and I have to close down the browser using Task Manager.
It's just Firefox, for instance I can open a PDF file in Adobe within my system.
Does anyone else have this problem and has anyone solved it.

A:Firefox and PDF pages

Did you check what program the .pdf file is associated with? It may be Firefox is trying to open it.

Go to your Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types - now scroll down the list until you find PDF and make sure it is associated to the Prog you have for that type of file, Adobe Reader, Foxit etc. by clicking on it and it will show you 'Opens with'

If nothing is set, or if the wrong prog is selected click 'Change' and insert the correct prog.

Normally, I'm on the fixit side of things but this is more than I can manage. I'm working on a system that had a virus about a week ago. The viruses were removed with Malwarebytes, F-secure Online Scan, and other malware by Spybot was also removed. I've scanned the system to death in the last 3 days but this last problem persists. I've made use of the Trend stuff (not my favorite ) and AVG. Did I mention the system picked up the actual Viruses with AVG and Zone Alarm running. I didn't put it there that was what the client was running. The speed of the system performance is now just fine, FIREFOX is spastic. If I search either in the toolbar OR just on the www.google.com page I get a list of google search results. HOWEVER -- When I click on any of the choices on the page I go to a RANDOM page. If I click the Back button, about 50% of the time, I am sent back to the search results. The rest of the time, I"m sent to the result page I was expecting. I have removed the 2 bookmark sync add ons, and disabled the Skype add on. I also removed the .Net extensions just in case but no luck. I installed the Ad-Block Plus today ( if anyone is reviewing the file and needed to know ) Firefox also does this if it is running in SafeMode. Problem does not exist on Chrome. However, Chrome does not have a working ad-blocker so it isn't the browser of choice for me. I've run HIJACK This and there are NO wierd entries, I had a few things that were ... Read more

in fact ANY browser besides windows internet exploiter will not work anymore on my machine =(

it all started with allowing scripts and downloding the new firefox 3. somthing
version 2 worked fine. then a windows update to fix firefox 3 (haha) and now its even worse.
I have tried: 1: uninstalling firefox and re-installing, nope. 2: reinstalling fire fox version 2 and that wont work now either. 3: tried removing the windows update, nope. 4: installed safari for windows xp only to have it tell me the same thing "can't find internet" even tho its connected and on. 5: installed opera for windows xp and the same problem...

SOooooooooooo it leads me to believe that windows xp is blocking all browsers except its own IE somehow. Which is Horrible since its the worst, slowest, and most annoying browser out there.
(not to mention it seems illegal to do something like that, or at least it should be)

can any one help me???
anyone else have this problem??

My hoimepage is set to Google. When I open the browser, it looks like Google is loading, then in the top tab, it looks like it loads again. This happens on some other Web sites, also. I re-set Firefox, but the problem continues. I do not have any add-ons or extensions in Firefox. I also tried setting the homepage to Yahoo, but this never seems to stop loading - the loading page wheel just keeps spinning. I have Windows 7 - 64 bit for the OS and have MSE, MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyWare and Spyware Blaster installed which I run every day (except Blaster which doesn't have a scanning feature). They don't find any issues, except SuperAntiSpyware which finds anywhere from 30 to 90 "threats" when I run it. What's the problem? Any "easy" fix?

A:Pages loading twice with Firefox

Reset Firefox to factory defaults.

Scan the entire computer with Malwarebytes in Safe Mode (after you updated the program)

Go from there.

I have a 19" widescreen display and I have been noticing lately that my Firefox search pages are off centered to the left. Sometimes on a particular page a box within the page will be off center. I also notice that something will be missing from a page like a tab to click on. The other problem I notice is on certain pages I actually get text over text issues. I have tried to the best of my ability to figure this out, but have had no luck at all. I'm using XP SP3 and have a 5500 nvidia graphics card. I did notice that the positioning adjustment for my monitor (Dell S199WFP) is greyed out, I don't know why. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I just got a Lenovo Ideapad S10 with XP. The first thing I did was install Firefox, as well as flash player directly from Adobe. Then I got to work uninstalling Norton Internet Security using the Add/Remove Programs tool in the Control Panel. Since uninstalling Norton I am unable to use IE7. It will say that it is unable to load the web page and when I try to refresh, all that appears in the address bar is http:/// While I don't generally use IE7 for the web, I do want it to work properly. Any thoughts on what may be wrong? Thanks in advance for the help.

I've been using Windows 7 since it came out, and up to a month or so ago, whenever a program opened a web page for me, it opened in Firefox, my preferred browser.

For the last few weeks -- possibly since I installed SP1 for Win7 --- web pages now open in IE rather than Firefox.

I'm not talking about htm files that I open myself from Windows Explorer. I have set both htm and html files to open in Firefox, and they do. And I have Firefox set to check that it's the primary browser, and IE set to NOT check.

So pages opened from Windows Explorer work right, but when a web page is opened by a program, e.g. I click on a url in a PDF document, or in a program's "About" screen, the web page opens in IE. And it's only been doing that for the last month or so.

Did SP1 change something? Can anyone tell me what register entry or option I need to set to change it back? Thank you.

A:How to get web pages to open with Firefox?

IMO, that is a choice you cannot make as, in the software it is pre-defined to open in Internet Explorer.

You may try,(CAUTION: i have'nt tried this!) to uninstalling Internet Explorer.

Okay, here's the story.

Last night, my PC was running fine. It's been running fine since...well, forever. I wake up this morning and check my email on my laptop (2 computers in one room...handy XD) and yep, everything's fine.

Then I move to my PC to play some MMORPG and for some reason it wont connect to the internet.

Well, more specifically, it will connect to the internet, but my browser wont display any web pages. My Guild Wars 2 client wont connect to their servers. Steam wont connect. Mumble wont connect.

I went into cmd prompt and pinged google.com: "Destination Host Unreachable".

I've turned everything on and off again, waited the obligatory 10 seconds, I've reset my browser settings (IE is having the same issue) switched from wireless to wired connections...the list goes on.

Now, the ONLY thing I can think of being an issue (or being the only thing that's changed) is this: before I turned my PC on I opened it up to see if I had space for another HDD in there. I turned the PC off at the master power switch before hand. There was a fair amount of dust in there, but I didn't touch it, save to blow some clumps away. Task completed, I put the case back together and turned the power back on. a small 'pop' or 'crack' was audible, but I put this down to the connection being made.

Turned the computer back on, booted up no problems. Internet? No go.

I'm writing this post on my laptop, which accesses the internet fine (obviously).

Can someone please help?... Read more

maybe a hardware issue

lets see a device manager screen shot and an ipconfig /all
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Device Manager
Post back the results in device manager
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the screen shot and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

how to access device manager for different windows versions
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?

Hold the Windows key and press Pause key, should open to allow device manager to be seen

on a laptop you may need to use Hold the Windows key and press FN key + the pause key

if this does not work then -

Windows 7 or Vista
Click on the Start Orb
In the Start Search box type
device manager and then press enter

-------------------

Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
windows 7
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager
network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X
post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

Hey everyone, does anyone have any idea why both my browsers are refusing to load fairly common websites like espn.com and my university's website?

A:Firefox and IE won't load some pages

First thing I would do is a virus scan
Then I would try to type cmd in search from an admistrative account.
In cmd I would type ipconfg /flushdns

Then report back

When I try to open any pages in IE7 it defaults to http:/// and gives the following error message:
"Address is not valid"

I have recently cleared my computer of malwares and spywares using comboboxfix, superantispyware, and several other suggested fixes. Afterwards, all of my system services were turned off. I also had to reinstall Office 2003 (which now works). But the online help no longer works. I'm assuming this is related to the fact that IE7 also does not work.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

For some reason, the pages in firefox keep jumping up and down, and it is very, very annoying. I've run a virus scan (AVG) and a spyware program (PC Tools Spyware Doctor), but those didn't help. I don't know why this is happening... perhaps someone can help me with this? I'm not sure if this will help, but here is a complete Hijackthis report:

I had some problems with my computer and ran some anti spyware/malware programs and afterwards certain web pages would not load. I posted a Hijackthis log and am still waiting to see what's up with that, but I was wondering if there is anything I could do to fix this problem.

I read Trojan.Vundo might be the reason, but I'm afraid to delete some of the files because of they're dll.

A:Certain Web Pages Won't Load In Firefox Or Ie

It is unwise to muck about in the registry unless you are very careful and completely sure of what you are doing. It would be best to do nothing, since you could very easily invalidate the data contained in the HJT log you have submitted and cause confusion.

I got the automatic update message yesterday, closed FF, and when I re-opened it it updated itself. Result: NO pages load. No errors, says "Done", and just plain blank. Error Console shows nothing. All pages load fine in IE. Nothing works, including Google.com. I renamed the old FF, re-installed a fresh copy downloaded from getfirefox.com, no help. I un-installed FF, then re-installed the fresh copy, still no help. Any ideas?

PS: I have tried FF's "Safe Mode", no help.

PPS: I downloaded Netscape 8.x and it works fine...
