Preferred Solution: no special permissions, gone

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Did you reboot after turning UAC off? Personally I'd turn it back on.

Can you create the error and post a snip of it so we can see what going on?

Hi,

I'm trying to take full control of my laptop that I own personally.

I've taken control of the C Drive and changed the permissions to full control but for some reason it won't allow me to tick the Special Permissions option.

Can you please advise how I can get special permissions?

I would like to get ultimate control of the operating system.

Thanks

A:Windows 7 Special Permissions

Special permissions are more fine grained than the normal permissions. If you have full control you already have all of the special permissions.

You have taken a drastic step and I care not to speculate on it's consequences. Not a pleasant thought.

I am a teacher, and my district suddenly made it so there are things I can no longer do, like add/delete programs, system restore, look at msconfig from "run" etc. I swear I'm not going to do anything bad to the computer!! But there are programs that are starting up every time i turn on my computer that slow it down a LOT, and I don't need them. I don't want to delete them because the district put them there, but would like to take it off of the startup automatic boot. Every time I try to do that, it tells me I need to be an administrator, which I am, but when I type in name/password, it tells me I would have to be "elevated"in order to gain access. I teach music, so sometimes get new software, totally safe guaranteed, and want to be able to use them. This district is enormous, so I can't just ask the schools IT guy like I could at my previous school which was small and I knew the IT person and she trusted me and gave me complete access back.

It says I have "full control" and everything is checked except special permissions, which can't be checked. It has my regular user account as owner, but when I try to take ownership to my admin account, it tells me again I need to be elevated (even though it says I can take ownership). I assume that means that I need special permissions?

I tried doing system restore so I could try to go back to before this update that took all my privileges away, but again, I need to be elevated in order to do a sys res... Read more

I'm sorry but those controls are there for a reason so if you want more access you will have to ask your IT department, it's against site rules to help you bypass these restrictions.

Hello everyone.

Let me start off with explaining my problem first, I'll just give you the short version.

So basically I deleted the Profile who had "special permissions" completely. I don't know how I ended up doing that or why .
But since then, my laptop has been freezing in a specific pattern. For example when I boot my laptop and I run a game, it will 8 out of 10 times freeze my laptop completely for about 1-2 minutes. If it doesen't freeze when i start a game, it will later on.
I also tried to do a system restore but it won't allow me since it doesen't have access to a specific file. It says it's most likely because of an antivirus but I uninstalled everything I had. I have performed successful system restores before so this doesen't make sense.

I tried to search for answers but all I get are XP Vista and Win7 solutions, all have some options I don't have on my Win8.
Is there a way to restore this profile with special permissions or can I give myself those permissions?

Thanks in advance for any help or info.

User account only has (Special permissions) checked and I can't get it to change. I have activated the Admin account and I have gone into the admin account and tried to change the account permissions their and it shows that it does them. But when I try to run Avira or AVG it says that it can't because of permissions on this account. So I go back to the user account and it is set back to (Special Permissions). When I am in the admin account ever thing works great. I have scanned the computer many times looking for spyware but i can't find anything. Anyone have any advice. Alright, I made a big mistake and downloaded a file that I didn't know where it came from in hopes it would speed up my Adobe Photoshop CS4 that I have installed. Now problems have arisen and the file is undeletable. It has made the cracked "faster" version of Photoshop is able to be used in the entire master suite. All of the other files have lost their registration and won't start, or will crash on startup.

The Program is Adobe Cybershop CS4 from CyberWarez, do not download at all costs.

Here's what's happening, in addition to the above ->

1) Right click on Cyber Warez in Program Files (X86)
2) Delete
3) Folder Access Denied, you need permission from Computer-name\Administrator to make changes to this folder. Mind you I am logged into the hidden Administrator account and attempting to delete.

Next

1) Right Click -> Properties
2) Security Tab
3) And I see My admin account, my 2 user accounts and a few others
4) Trusted Installer which is okay, SYSTEM which is okay, and CREATOR OWNER which is baffling to me as I've never seen this before.

Creative owner has only special privelages
TrustedInstaller has List folder contents and Special permissions
and SYSTEM has everything but Special Permissions

I go into the advanced tab go to the owner tab and change owner to Administrator I also select replace owner on subcontainers and objects.

I have two Dell Inspiron 17R 7720 laptops. My "old" one I bought direct from Dell in 2012, the "new" one, advertised as an "Inspiron 17R 7720 Special Edition",  I bought on Ebay a couple of weeks ago. I still have the original paperwork for the old one from when I purchased it from Dell and there is no mention of "Special Edition" in the paperwork. Both are identified only as "Inspiron 7720" on the label on the underside of the computer, and there are no "Special Edition" markings or labeling anywhere on the new computer.
Hardware is pretty much identical, 1TB Samsung ST1000LM024HN HDDs, 8 GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000/Nvidia GeForce GT 650M Video/3D graphics, Backlit Keyboard on both. The only hardware differences are the old computer has an Intel Core i7-3610QM processor (specified by me when I ordered the computer) and a 32GB mSATA SSD while the new computer has an Intel Core i5-3210M processor and no mSATA SSD.
So what makes the "Special Edition" so special? Is there REALLY anything different about "Special Edition" computers, or was that just some sort of marketing hype?

A:What is so special about an Inspiron 17R 7720 "Special Edition"?

The mSATA cache drive was one of the differentiators.  When that system was built, SSDs were appreciably more expensive than they are now.

I recently put a new hard drive in my HP dv7 laptop to increase the onboard storage. Before changing out the existing hard drive, I backed up all my personal files on an external hard drive.

One of the folders though for some reason appears to have "randomly" restricted the permissions of an entire folder along with its subfolders and individual files to the admin user of the previous Win7 installation.

This is a folder with multiple subfolders and files (photo backup folder). Windows will allow me to take control of the folder with the current admin user, but it's only one folder at a time. When I attempt to force new permissions for access down the folder structure, I get an error message telling me my access to the subfolders and files is denied.

Is there some other way to force these permissions down the tree or should I put the old hard drive back in and attempt to fix the problem from the old instance of Windows?

Any assistance is appreciated.

Does anyone have any idea why, when I select the Read/Write option for users and groups for various shares on my NAS, the Vista permissions don't have Delete selected, thus only making it possible to delete at administrator level?

When viewing permissions, even administrators can't view the contents of the Auditing tab, although currently any user (both Windows and UNIX) can take ownership of a file/folder, which, of course, I want to change, but I don't want to affect the settings on my NAS.

Where NAS files show a combination of Windows and UNIX users and groups, I'm also seeking advice on how best to configure.

I recently looked at my D drive, to find out that every file and folder in the D drive has a S-1-5-21.... account under the security tab. However the D drive itself does not. When I do to delete it, it tells me I cannot because it is inheriting permissions from its parent. But The D drive itself (The parent) doesn't have that user. So first, can you explain this.
So, I go and stop it from inheriting permission, and then delete it.. The issue is that this is quite time consuming. I basically want to remove this user on every file and folder on the drive at once. Now how do I do that?
I would be perfectly happy removing all the file permissions for all the files (Yes, I know that leaves them unaccessable) and then just adding them, as adding them to the D drive itself will cause all the child objects to inherit them, yes?

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Also if you have any programs that may prevent system changes (like Spybot's TeaTimer program, Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, and others), make sure you disable them before doing any of the fixes (or accept the changes for the fix we give you when asked by the programs).

Go to My Computer->Tools (or View)->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders (it's Show all files for Windows 98).
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs (run in Safe Mode) already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Ewido (only if you have Windows 2000 or XP). If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm

I have a computer thats a few years old. A friend of mine had a computer shop with top-notch equipment laying around and just threw it together for me one day. I do plenty of downloading and all that. Its always ran very well with its 896MB RAM and 1.21G Processor. A few nights ago it started rebooting itself, and after a few times would start rebooting itself while still trying to load Windows. I unhooked the ethernet wire and tried to start Windows, everything went fine untill I plugged the wire back in and opened internet explorer. I figured I just got a virus and tried to reformatt everything and for three nights it would freeze in the middle of loading the boot disc and such. finally it made it thru the install..... all TEN HOURS of it! It went so unbelivably slow and now that windows is installed it takes about 15 min just to get to the welcome screen and another 20 untill I can actually open anything on my desktop. I've changed my RAM chips to any different possiable combination, including each one by itself. I have a seperate back-up hard drive that I've also tried to install Windows on to no avail. I think it maybe my processor. Is there any test I could get to find out or any other ideas that may help? Im usually good at this stuff myself but right now im totally stumped.

In a couple of days, I will have two PCs and two monitors. That sounds totally typical and understandable, but NOT in the configuration I have in mind. I will be working on one pc at a time, using two monitors at a time, and then I will (somehow ) switch to the other pc and use the same two monitors with this other pc.

Each PC already has the kind of video card that will allow dual monitor useage. What I need is to know how to set this gear up to work the way I need it to work.

Someone said I might be able to use two KVM switches (somehow). But I need to know what to buy and how to connect it up. Will it be some fancy A/B switch of some sort? Or some kind of special KVM cable or box? Maybe two?

Surely this configuration has been done before. If you are someone who knows the best way to do this, I'd be grateful to tap into your knowledge on the subject.

Thank you.

I have switched to win7 64bit and have a serious question. My HD is a 500GB drive with 3 partitions. the first two are used for system restoration, one being 100MB and the other being 16GB. The third partition (C: drive) is what's left. I am wanting to reformat my C: partition to NTFS but using 512 byte sectors instead of 4K clusters. (Just to save as much space as possible, since I can reclaim about 5 or 6 GB by doing this)

I had seen a drive or two give an error about the drive being too large for that size cluster, but that was with a 32 bit system. Since this is 64 bit, it should handle it easily.

I want to know if I am in error on this, and if it is possible, I need to find a 3rd party tool that will let me format the drive to my specs instead of just handing out a default 4K cluster format.

Is this going to work for me? And what tool should I use to do the formatting? Hopefully it's a free tool, since I am only going to be doing this once.

I think Partition Wizard Home Edition will do that. It's free.

Hi everyone, I just had this idea the other night and I don't know how to do it, or if it's possible.
I've been using this Entertainment Hub program called XBMC that let's me organize all my media, I have it set to pull everything from my external hdd like movies, audio, pictures, etc. and then it pulls information like covers, cast, year, bios, and etc from the internet, all the information on whatever movie or album it needs to. It is quite a big program so sometimes it crashes when running because of all the other processes I have going on.

So my idea was to only boot up this program by itself as a dual boot or something along those lines. I already have a dual boot set up so I was hoping that my idea would have it's own custom boot option added to the list. For example, If I just booted up my computer, I usually have to select between Windows and Linux. I would want to be able to select my custom boot instead like...
Windows Vista
Ubuntu 12.04
XBMC

And if this custom boot was possible, the only other factors I would need to figure out would be that the program get's information on movies and audio from the internet, so I would need to have an internet connection possible along with my firewall and antivirus running. Plus being able to access my external of course.
Thank you for any help in advance. -Slim

I don't think your ambition is possible - the XMBC web-site says it is available for both Windows and Linux ( as well as others ) but this implies you need an operating system to run it on so you will not be able to set XMBC up as a third bootable system.

You say it crashes from time to time because of other demands on your system. Would it be effective to run it under Ubuntu which I believe requires fewer resources than Windows to run ?  Alternatively, have you considered increasing the amount of RAM on your system ? And, are you using the latest version of XMBC ?

I was wondering if there is a special cable made that will allow me to connect my pc using hi defination output for my tv. My pc list is below and my tv resulution goes up to 1080i.

And the tv model is 30hf85 from toshiba.

A:Special cable for my hi-def tv?

It depends on the connectors. You can use either a VGA or a DVI (you probably have both) and of course you need a DVI connection on your video card) cable.

Someone who was closing an office yesterday, gave me a Minuteman Enterprise E 1500 UPS that is two-and-a-half years old. I looked it up and it seems they sell for $550 to $690 new.

I can understand a professional grade UPS costing more than an off-the-shelf consumer grade UPS; but, this is a huge difference -- roughly ten times as much.

What is so different about this that it costs ten times as much?

I just converted some mov files to avi. They won't play on Windows Media Player 10. After Media Player looks for codecs, I am getting the following error message.

C00D11CD: Unknown error
Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error. This can occur when another program or operating system component encounters a problem but does not communicate the nature of the problem to Windows Media Player.
Error ID = 0xC00D11CD, Condition ID = 0x00000000

Do I need another codec? If so, what do I look for? Is there a solution to this problem?
Thanks, Jim

I'm looking to start backing up all of my MP3's onto disk, but my current software (Ulead BurnNow) will not do what I want. That is, I want to be able to burn a set of MP3's on a disc one day, then when I want to add more, be able to burn them onto the same disc that already has files on it. In a perfect world I'd also like to be able to erase selected files that are already on the disc if I want to. What software out there will do this? I don't want to use Nero.

Does anyone know how to setup AIM (or trillian www.trillian.cc) so that what away message is sent to people is specific to their screen name. Like say I have a message for littlebob23 if Joe2121 IMs me... they get "I am away right now" but if littlebob23 IMs me, they get "Hey Little Bob! How are you?" Is that possible?

Hi Folks,
I don't know if it's against the rules or whatever to talk about the "Special Disk" that I'm referring to, but you'll probably figure out what I'm talking about really fast.

Booted into this disk to try to reset a password on a Dell Inspiron 3542, but can't browse to the SAM from NTPWEdit because it's not seeing the HDD. Went into BIOS to try to change from AHCI to IDE mode. But you can't change it, nor can you disable it.

I know there are other tools I can use, but I don't have the time or the patience right now to work on setting one up. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!
J

Seems to me that your subject matter would be better posed at the Dell forums, for more accurate information concerning the various passwords that may be employed on a Dell system.

I access a linux in my windows explorer by type a network url. It shows as below.
The permission is under "Special permissions" category. I have no idea about "Special permissions". I can copy and paste files to this place. So what is meant by the term "Special permissions" here?

A:About special permission

This site might help you to understand the special permissions..

2. Special PermissionsEach basic permission is actually a set of special permissions. Because of this, whenever you allow or deny a basic permission, Windows 7 works behind the scenes to manage the related special permissions for you. Table 2 lists the special permissions related to each basic permission.

Alright, I have 3 different effects I want to find and maybe you guys can point me to software that can do something:I'm trying to make a mic-recorded sound and turn it into a radio sound that sounds like... it's on the radio.1. I want a metallic resonance effect. Like it's coming out of cheap speakers, you know? Like fighter pilot sounding...2. I want radio static and maybe something that will apply static to high pitches like on the radio if someone makes an 's' sound.3. A timbre or sound separator that will separate sounds in a sound file. Like I want only to hear the drums in a song or something. So I can pick what instruments show up in the music.Edit: Moved topic from General Chat to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Ok. I have Windows xp sp2 with an AMD based computer. The model is a Compaq presario SR1200NX. I visited this website http://msinfluentials.com/blogs/jes...ed-computer-boot-after-installing-xp-sp3.aspx and ran the tool to confirm that i had one, and i do. Now i want to run the tool and disable whatever it wants me to disable and install SP3, but ive had a past problem where i replaced the system file user32.dll and it led to a repeating reboot. i fixed it with some tool on the computer when you boot called the recovery console and i got the file back. When i got the computer to boot it looked like this http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/3894/pictuer.png (notice everything is themed except for the taskbar i have no idea why the hell thats happening) i made a few changes so i could use custom themes, and theres also a few user32.dll files scattered in the Windows folder but with different names ( i did that when using the recovery console). I'm afraid to upgrade because of this and the fact i have an AMD computer. Can anybody tell me the exact steps to take before I upgrade. Thanks!
