Lenovo y50 battery died and now won’t come back on.

Q: Lenovo y50 battery died and now won’t come back on.

I made the mistake of using my laptop without the charger and letting the battery run down. I launched The Sims 4 before getting up and grabbing my charger. I didn?t check to see if the laptop was actually charging after I plugged it in, simply because I?ve never had an issue before. So I set my laptop down and walked away, letting my game load. I left the computer alone for nearly 20 minutes. I came back and as soon as I went to use it, the screen went black. Luckily though it wasn?t entirely dead. I pressed the power button and it came back on briefly. The battery symbol had an ?X? and it said 0%. I noticed then that my charger wasn?t completely plugged into the machine. So I plugged it in properly and I didn?t see a little charging symbol or anything but it didn?t shut down immediately - The Sims was still running in the back ground. I loaded up a world and after a minute or two it died. I tried to turn it back on but I wouldn?t turn on. So I let it sit unbothered, charging for several minutes. I tried to turn it back on and nothing happened. The power button wouldn?t even light up. However, when I do press it, there?s a little red light that blinks at the bottom of my laptop. I went online and tried to find some solutions. I tried the one where you detach the battery and the charger and hold the power button down for 30-60 secs and that produced no results. I think it might be a charger issue, but how do I know for sure? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Also, as a side note: I was charging it all night long and had no problems.

Preferred Solution: Lenovo y50 battery died and now won’t come back on.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi All, My laptop (E50-70)  is almost 3 years. The battery behaves normally most of time. But sometimes it died suddenly without plugging into mains after 5 minutes used when it was waken up from sleep mode. This happened many times even the battery was fully charged before entering sleep mode. But everytime, when I took out the battery from laptop, and put it back then plugged into mains to charge it. It behaved normally again until unexpected same incident happened again. Do you have similar experience? Any idea what's wrong? Many thanks,Cheers,J

I see others have had this problem, but the classic ?hold the power button for 10 seconds? trick isn?t working. This has happened numerous times in the past and typically it just eventually turns back on, seemingly with no rhyme or reason behind it. This time, it has been well over an hour. It?s turned on twice, gotten to the lock screen, then turned off again & I cannot get it back on.  It is certainly not an issue of wear and tear-I use it minimally, however when I do use it, I really need it to actually work.  What is going on and how can I fix it??

I bought lenovo y500 two days ago in INDIA.  In the lenovo energy management system 8.0, I found a battery calibration option and decided to do it.  The steps mentioned there were as follows. 1. Full charge2. Full discharge  The process performed full charging followed by complete discharge of the battery which caused the laptop to shut down.   When I tried turning on my laptop, it could not start.  The battery charging indicator LED wasnt switched on even though the power cord was inserted into the laptop.  I could start the laptop only after removing the battery.   Once the laptop was on, I inserted the battery back in and it began to charge.  After about 50% of charging, I removed the power cord and inserted it again.  Now the battery couldnt resume charging.  I again had to shut down the laptop and repeat the above steps of inserting battery after switching on the laptop without battery.  Only then the battery would resume charging. After this, I decided to allow the battery to charge to 100%. But, the charging remained stuck at 99% and could not fully charge the battery.  When I removed and reinserted the power cord, the same problem persisted of battery not resuming charging. Please help me with this problem.  I read on few forums about uninstalling microsoft ACPI which supposedly solves this issue.  However, ACPI returns back after I restart my laptop.I also tried switch... A:LENOVO Y500 BATTERY NOT CHARGING AFTER USING LENOVO'S BATTERY GAUGE CALIBRATION

ADMIN Edit - While the original post below is marked as the solution, because service will be required if the battery will no longer charge after performing a battery reset, I am adding a Lenovo update here to confirm.   Normal operation will allow the battery to relearn its capacity characteristics when using the battery reset function.  Typically this is not needed in normal use..   Batteries are equipped with a safety feature that will permanently disconnect them (like a fuse) if cell imbalance or an internal short is detected.   This tends to be statistically infrequent, but also normal, and would require a battery replacement.  (Batteries have a 1 year warranty).   This battery feature can also  produce similar results to what is being discussed in the thread, so it should first be considered by service.   This particular  forum discussion also involves a situation that could affect a limited number of systems, and could lead service to replace the system board during warranty.

If your system experiences these symptoms, please contact service during the warranty period.

Hi there,i just unpacked my laptop from a flight and now it suddenly doesn?t turn on anymore.when I press the power button nothing happens, no indicator leds, nothing. When I release the button I hear that thud noise you hear when you manually kill a laptop by keeping the button down. Now the weirdest thing: when I plug in the adaptor the fans start spinning like crazy, immediately when I plug it in, I don?t even need to push the power button.the same thing happens when the laptop is unplugged and I keep the power/reset button down for a longer time, the fans start spinning out of control but no leds, no nothing, and they immediately stop when I let go.If anyone has any clue how this could be or what to do please tell me. I will contact the seller on Monday (I have had this laptop for 2.5 years, thank god the insurance runs for three years) but as I?ve just moved to another country I?m not sure if that?s going to work out.Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Yesterday, my primary HDD died, I/O error - not found, and only 1 month after my HP warranty expired.

So, I want to replace it with an SSD, but have never worked with them before. The biggest question on all this is, I run NovaStor backup on my PC and think I have a full backup on my NAS of the HDD that died.

Once I have an SSD installed and initiated, would I be able to restore the backup to the SSD, basically getting my PC back the way it was? Or do I need to do a fresh OS install and rebuild from scratch?

Thanks.

A:HDD Died, Want To Replace w/SSD. Have back up of HDD

you can restore from an image, but I wouldnt. your getting an ssd, speed is its biggest selling point; why saddle it with your old os and crap thats collected over time. start fresh and only install the essentials!!

A:Laptop Died....Battery?

It is most likely the Adapter jack. The solder connection between this and the mainboard tends to develop cracks, and all it takes it a awkaward yank or press to break. It is fixable, best to bring to a computer repair shop, preferably one that has a reputation for doing this kind of repairs. Shop around, some charge over $200.00 (>100 is what i charge).

However if you feel brave, you can at least LOOK at the connection by checking out your laptops dissassembly guide. Simply do www.google.com and enter your laptops make and model, look up dissassembly, and follow the guide to get down to your motherboard, and take a look at it!

So a few weeks ago I was using my Acer Aspire M5 series and it died on me, which isn't that surprising my battery has always sucked, but now it won't turn back on or charge. I've tried different cords, and the charging light never comes on and it never turns on either. Recently when I tired a new cord I noticed that I could hear a constant clicking sound. I don't have the money to take it in right now, and it's extremely inconvenient because I have online classes that I need to work on. I've tried searching for answers, and a few months ago I had to find a new cord, and it's almost like this laptop doesn't exist. It took me over an hour to find a cord online for it and I never found any specific information on it when I searched for it. It's been extremely frustrating. I've really hit a brick wall with this laptop, and I'd appreciate any help or advice I could get, on the problem or the laptop itself.

A:Acer Laptop Died and Won't Turn Back On

It sounds like possibly the charging port plug is broken. It is a fairly common issue on these laptops. Take a light and look into the port and see if you can tell if the pin is missing or broken. Then it depends on how comfortable you are with opening your computer to test and possibly fix.

A:Desktop just died, wont switch back on please help

When you attempt to boot up your pc what happens? do you have anything displayed on the screen, do you hear the computer being turned on at all or is it just not starting up at all?

Indeed my guess would be a Bugged PSU if nothing pops up on screen and you don't hear the pc turn on. If you hear the pc turn on (fans spinning and all) but do not get anything on screen followed by a shutdown then its most likely the motherboard.

You might be running a cheap PSU and that has a potential to even fry your computers parts and components. If it boils down to the PSU, i suggest investing in a reliable PSU like Antec perhaps or Silverstone

A:My Toshbia Harddrive died. How can I get the data back?

That's really bad luck!
Assuming the drive is still in the computer and will spin up you could try booting to a live linux CD. A good free one would be puppy linux.
Get a friend to download it and burn to a CD. Boot your laptop from the CD and see if you can browse to the "dead" HDD and pull files off to an external USB HDD.
There are businesses that recover data but I think it is an expensive service.

Hey,

when I turned on my computer, it first made some weird ticking noise and didn't boot saying - Please install Gigabyte Xpress Recovery 2. A few hours earlier the power went out (the computer wasn't on), but when we reset the main power switch the power went on again.
I put the Gigabyte CD in, got the options "Backup" or "Reboot", but I apparently didn't have enough hdd space for the backup. After a reboot or 4 everything miraculously worked again.
Any idea what the hell happenned? I got pretty scared that my MoBo or hdd was dead.

The problem now - I tried if everything worked again, but when the game "Trackmania Nations Forever" loaded, I got a BSoD which says -
STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF17FBE2, 0xB2C07A7C, 0x00000000)
nv4_disp.dll - Address BF17FBE2 base at BF012000

I reboot, try Fifa09, works fine. I try WoW, works fine aswell, but ater 10 minutes I got the same BSoD. Is something broken?

(Not sure if this is in the right section, but it seemed hardware related to me. Solved because of title not being relevant)

I see a red light glowing on MOBO but when I unplug the cord it goes out and comes back on when I replug it in.

I figured the PSU was fine because of the red light coming on and off. SO i replaced the MOBO. Still nothing.

Is is possible that the Graphics Card took a poop?? Would that cause the system not to turn on if it died(fans ect....)

Does the red light mean that the PSU is bad??

Any help would be great.

A:Computer died! Wont turn back on???? Help!

unless the video card has some kind of short in it then that should not keep the system from booting or at least giving you some beeps. if the power supply went bad it is possible that not only it is dead but that it damaged other components. like the CPU, ram and video card.

if you have access to another PSU you should try it. if not, places like office depot and circuit city sell antec power supply testers for 10-14 dollars.

My girlfriend has an HP laptop with vista in it, its just used for homework. She doesnt download anything because alot of it is forbidden in her college. But her battery died one night and when she turned the computer on, it gave her the safe mode screen, and she tried to start windows normally, and tried safe mode, and today she tried last known good configuration, but all 3 options take her to windows and her system hangs, it takes about 8 minutes for the welcome screen to go away, and logging in is out of the question, because she puts her name in, and clicks ok, and her background ends up black. She did ctrl alt del, and it took 3 minutes for the screen to come up, still no sign of the desktop, task manager took an entire 2 minutes. I told her to click new task, that took an entire minute, and typing in "explorer.exe" took minutes because the system kept hanging. Why is it doing this? Its acting like a hard drive thats just fallen on the ground. Her laptop endured nothing of that nature though. Why is it doing this?

Hi all,
Lately I've had my laptop plugged in a lot because I've been running some design analysis software thats required a long time to solve. Anyway my laptop suddenly just cut off today whilst on battery. Straight away I assumed it was the battery as I had a similar issue back in 2010 with my old device. I've had my current laptop for about 2 and a half years. I ran a battery report which came up with the following information:
Cycle count: 489Design capacity: 48840Last full charge: 38373
So its obvious my battery isn't at full capacity as expected. However, could this be the cause of it randomly losing power? I'm thinking more of a calibration issue. Any ideas on how to calibrate?

Many thanks in advance!

I tried all of these options and nothing work now it is only restarting and sending me again and again to the same listed options.

Hello! I have encountered a problem with my x270. I've left my laptop asleep (suspend to ram) and disconnected from power for about 4 or 5 days.Obviously this has drained the power from both batteries and I've lost all the data in RAM.Unfortunately, my external battery stopped working after this. My internal battery has charged since then and is working okSpoiler (Highlight to read)$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info

I've been using this laptop for a few years now, and while it has its fair share of small problems (track pad not working, keyboard coming loose and sometimes not working, speakers slowly dying, start ups where the screen doesn't turn on.) Despite those issues I always found a way to either fix or at least work around the problems until today.I was just watching YouTube videos when the laptop without any warning shut off instantly, even though it was plugged in, and mostly charged. After that none of the power lights would go on at all, not even the charging one. I tried unplugging it, removing the battery, holding down the power button for 30 second, and every combination of those steps I could think of. Is there any hope of saving this laptop, or is it bricked?

I took my computer with me in a hurry and didn't bring charger. Battery length wasn't very long since it was older. Computer is a Lenovo G570 so nothing special but I have all my pics/documents on it and didn't backup or upload copies online so they are very important. So, it runs out of juice and dies hard. When I plug it in & try to restart it, it only lights up for a few secs and then light goes off. Nothing happens. So, I tried other AC adapters and still the same. I buy a new battery and same thing. I take the hard drive out of the computer and try to access the files from another computer but it never brings it up. I plug it in and it brings up the drive and tries to access it. It shows that it is loading it but when it gets to the end, it never opens the files. Is it dead? Is there anything I can do to be able to get my files? Thank you in advance for any advice. I very much appreciate the service, although, feeling very bummed right now as I anticipate the answer.
