Preferred Solution: Spybot needs to be elevated to admin

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:trying to get full elevated admin privileges

Hello Mark, and welcome to Eight Forums.

What system file are you trying to move?

If you like, you could enable the built-in "elevated" Administrator account, then sign in to it to have full elevated rights when needed. Do note, that Store apps will not work in elevated accounts.

Hi. I've just installed this ... Windows 10 Pro x64 yesterday.
It's been 20 hours since I've started installation and it is still not enough to get it working as it should be working.

So there is no hack or some bypass to run fully elevated admin (or at least so I can create files in my C:\ drive without hassle) and run MS Store?

Hi kekoa and welcome to Vista Forums

Assuming that this is the Tutorial that you are referring to Administrator Account then the parts in bold are merely to indicate the commands you should enter at the prompt. They do not have to be in bold when you enter them.

If this is not the Tutorial you are referring to, which one is it?

I have a file to clear the print spooler when it has an error. I based this file on Brinks tutorial. Thanks Brink. I placed this file in C:\windows\system32 folder so all users would have access. The file must be run in a elevated cmd window. I then created a shortcut to the file and put the shortcut in each users Maintenance folder so they could clear the print Q when needed. In each shortcut I put a check in ADVANCED.......RUN AS ADMIN so the elevated command would be uised when clearing the print Q.
When the shortcut is used to clear the print Q it works fine in the ADMIN user account, all the ADMIN has to do is answer "YES" to the UAC. But the standard users must input the ADMIN PW at the UAC. Obviously, I don't want them to have the PW.
Is there a way for me hard code the PW into either of the files, the batch file or the shortcut, so that the standard user doesn't have to insert the ADMIN PW?

A:Standard user requires admin PW when using elevated command

What if you change the properties of the file in system32 to run as admin, rather than the link in each profile?

Two similar events have happened to me recently, all while logged into windows; I use only one account on this pc. On both occurrences the Screen flashes black; after that, in particular the first occurrence i was not able to access the admin account via
UAC; Group policy is set to ask for password upon elevation, good and well, but the password dialogue box said that the admin account was locked out. After rebooting, I was unable to login, with the exact same error appearing; A system restore fixed this issue.
Unfortunately I did not note the exact string of the error, and I see no references to it in event log except for this " Event 6000 The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> was unavailable to handle a notification event."  However

I have been using an unelevated admin user account since installing win 8.1 pro and I've been having problems constantly (UAC nagging me, access denied when trying to kill processes and so on) and I decided I want to use the elevated admin account as my main. I understand security risks and convenience is more important to me as I don't have any sensitive information on my laptop. I was wondering if I can merge the user account I used until now, which has all my app settings, with the elevated admin user account and use that one from now on.

A:How do I transfer main user to Elevated Admin user?

Nope.

It is the same a switching from any other account to a different one except that as you'll not be able to use the Store apps using the built in Administrator account you don't even get to use the OneDrive synching of settings.

Sorry about that.

The most unbelievable one including this sentence "Click here for the scan you computer." It also had pop ups asking me to activate my anti-virus software which I did not accept. It also started to do some type of scan which I X'd out. After that when I tried to open any files, such as Spybot, Task Manager... I'd get a taskbar bubble saying that the file was infected and it wouldn't open. For some reason Norton was able to open, but the scan found nothing. It also periodically opened webpages in IE.I restarted in Safe Mode and ran SpyBot. It removed 4 "Malware" files (Sys.Guard) among some tracking cookies. I also ran ad-aware which found nothing and norton again, finding nothing. I ran AVG from safe mode and it found nothing. I restarted in Normal mode. All the pop ups had disappeared. Everything seems to be working normally, except that now it appears like I'm not the admin of my own computer. I hope someone can help me.

Just this morning i booted up as normal and the always annoying UAC notifications kept popping up. I was sure i had disabled these! Then i went to use my music software and it said that this account didn't have admin privileges.

I checked my user account and the check box states that is is an admin account and that UAC is turnd off. (i only have one account anyways)

Ive looked on google extensively, Tried making new profiles and copy the old one over, but that only worked to a certain point - lots of programs didn't work, lost mail settings etc. Not really workable.

Tried system restore to no avail.

Tried using the vista admin account and changing my account - rebooting - etc. No change.

My guess is that something has got corrupt in my user profile and windows is not remembering that i should be an admin. I can't use my software and i have a deadline!!

Any one who can help will win a magical prize or something!

I'm running Vista Home Premium, and there's an account that had Administrator privileges but it doesn't show on the login screen. The two accounts available are a Standard user and the Guest account. I reboot into safe mode but the only two options are the two mentioned. I can't do anything in safe mode as far as the User Accounts applet is concerned, but I ran a "net user" command and it showed that the Administrator privileged account is active.

I can't edit the registry, and the UAC doesn't have any options of selecting an elevated account (it's completely blank).

Anyone have any ideas?

I recently had a problem where my graphics driver decided not to install the update after it removed the working version, now I can't get any version to install. But, that's a different issue (maybe connected though). I just went through and did a full virus scan using pretty much every boot cd I have at hand, as well as malwarebytes (oh, and that's another issue to work on later) and superantispyware. None found any problems except the usual tracking webpages ... nothing major. Ok, so after rebooting after all of that, everything is running in Admin mode! I'm still logging in with my normal username and the Administrator account is still disabled. But if I go to open a cmd prompt I see that the command will run with elevated privs. I can't figure out why. Does anyone have any ideas?

Please help. My computer is running extremely slow and it is almost brand new. I have scanned for viruses using Spybot and Spyware Doctor. Nothing unusual pops up. However, when I look at the CPU usage in the Task manager it will go from 5% upwards of 100% and change by the second. Since the CPU usage is so high I imagine this is why my computer will stall or be very slow opening up programs or executing any functions. I had help once where I used HiJack This and someone showed me what to delete to clean my computer. Can someone walk me through this? Or ss there any freeware available to help with this problem or does anyone have any suggestions. I have a Dell Inspiron 1000 which is using Windows XP operating system. Thank you very much in advance.

A:elevated CPU usage

Hi jmontcri,

Check what programs are running (cntr-alt-del) will
bring up the task manager. Check "applications".

You should also check completely for spyware and
virii.

And your virtual memory is probably "thrashing", constantly
re-sizing. You should set it to what would be a "static"
size.

Right click on My Computer. Hit "Properties". In the upper right
you will see "Advanced", then hit "settings", under "virtual
memory". Go to "Advanced". You can choose which drive
to use and you can re-set it manually. Hit "change"

If you have lots of RAM, set it for 400 Meg low, 400 meg
high. Hit set, apply and go out. You will need to reboot.
This should improve speed significantly.

For those who'd like to use the power of a permanent admin (can of course be reverted) prompt here's how:

Elevated Command Prompt Shortcut - Windows 7 Forums

Open Explorer and drill down to:

There you see the command prompt shortcut as the first of a list of shortcuts. Right click it, choose properties from the list.
The property list will open, now choose Advanced and tick the "Run as Administrator" checkbox. Click Apply, Close. Done.

Now every time you run a command prompt you'll run it with administrative rights.

Remember, I'm not a tech person so any explanation needs to be as non tech as possible. Thanks!

That has to do with your SigmaTel sound drivers. There must be some kind of compatibility issue, though I don't quite know why it would have just surfaced now.

I could not find any updated drivers, though perhaps somebody else will. For now I would think you can allow it.

If you wait to take any action until somebody comes through with a 100% definite answer I'm not offended one bit

Not sure if this is the proper forum for my question, but here it goes.

I'm using a SSH server to remotely access my notebook from work. It works well for SFTP and remote command line access using a dedicated, non-admin, user account.

Problem is when I want to run something that requires admin permission under that connection. The server runs cmd.exe under the context of a non-admin user I've created for it, so I'm limited in what I can do. Question is, how can I "elevate" that remote command prompt to execute admin-only programs and commands? UAC of course will not help under that conditions.

Thanks!

A:Elevated command prompt over SSH

before you enter the command you can use the runas command first. You can also save the credentials so you dont have to enter them in every time.

Runas

Example:

Code:
runas /noprofile /user: username "command"

I think I understand how Linux handles the elevated privileges, but I'm not sure how Microsoft does it. Did they try to reinvent the wheel or just use public domain code from Linux (A rhetorical question).
When I installed W7 Pro on my PC, it had me create a profile. I then customized the profile to have the basic apps that I would need to administer the PC. I want to demote this account's privileges to better secure the PC. What is the best way to enable
elevated privileges with a password and keep the highest level of security.
I have seen methods (copy profile to a different account) on the web and followed them, but they seem to have issues. I don't know how Microsoft intended this to work, but I would like to know what method the Technical community believes is the right way
to handle this.
Thanks in advance.

Referred here from the "Am I Infected?" forum,
thanks to BC Advisor .

In this link you will see several initial logs from Security Check, Farbar, etc.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/494838/mse-closed-fake-security-infection/

I had Microsoft Security Essentials on my IE7.
I had an "update Java" type prompt that I tried to close.
(Would never open that!)

Suddenly MSE closed, I don't seem to have it available anymore.
A fake Security program tried to run, but I closed it.

I haven't observed any problems, other than the fact that MSE is disabled.

------

This may/may not be relevant: I had a some major problems several months
ago with viruses - I tried to repair them on my own - I accidently
deleted part of the MasterBootRecord, so I had to re-format my drive
and start over.

Gringo helped me through that.

When I am logged into a "standard" account, and choose to run a program as an "administrator" with the "run as" choice. Does it leave me running at an administrator level until I relog in or does it just run that program at that elevated privelage.
Thanks, Scott

A:[SOLVED] elevated privelages

Using the "run as administrator" option only runs the specified program as administrator. It does not change how you are logged in but only effects that one program. But note that by default programs inherit the rights of the parent process. If that one program you run as administrator opens others they will also have administrator rights that continue as long as they are running.

The purpose of the "run as administrator" option is to allow you to run an application with elevated privileges without the need of closing all open applications, logging out, then logging as an administrator.

I have a gadget that has buttons for hibernate and standby to run a shortcut. If I run the short cut directly by clicking it, it works, but if I try to run it from the html button, it will not acknowledge the run as administrator setting. I have tried it with VBScript and cannot change the powercfg - h state.

Here is the html:

HTML Code:
<a id="hibernate" onMouseOver='ShowTip(1,"Hibernate");' onMouseOut='HideTip(1);' href="../core/Hibernate.lnk" >
<img src="../images/Hibernate.png" border="0" width="20" height="20" >
<span id='tooltip1' class='tooltip'></span>
</a>
Here is the shortcut:

Code:
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c powercfg -h on & rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0

Here is the VBScript:

Code:
Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.Run "%COMSPEC% /c POWERCFG /Hibernate ON"
WshShell.Run "rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll SetSuspendState Hibernate"

You are really going about it the hard way. Why reinvent the wheel. If you are just going to use Metro/Start, use Ctrl-Alt-Del, to pull up the Start Button. If using 8.1.1, it is already on the Metro/start screen. If always using the desktop, use Classic Shell or Start8 from Stardock.com

This probably is not new to many, but I find it useful.

There are times I want an elevated command prompt. I usually type in "cmd", right click on it and run as administrator. If you need an elevated command prompt now and then, simply create a shortcut to "cmd". Right click on the shortcut, left click on properties. Click the shortcut tab and select "advanced". Finally, you can select "run as administrator".

Like I said, just something I didn't think about before, but it's handy to have.

Hello,

We're deploying Windows 10 to all our corporate computers, and I was trying to write a batch file to silently install all the necessary core programs that our employees would need. However I keep getting an elevated access required issue when running the batch file as an administrator. I am an admin on the domain, yet I keep getting this error. Any ideas?

Thanks,

I have been trying to register a program I bought and they tell me I must be logged in as Admin.

When I try to get to the elevated CMD prompt I am entering: net user administrator /active:yes

I get an ERROR 5 message and nothing happens.

I have also tried to use the other method using the Computer Management | Users method and enabling the account there. I don't see anything happening when I do this unless I have to reboot the machine, which I haven't tried.

The admin account is simply administrator and has not been renamed to something else and there is no password. I have used the CMD prompt method before and it worked fine now for some reason it won't.

Thanks ,

J T

Way too many Windows Explorer crashes and numerous odd behaviour for a relatively fresh clean W7P install. Just popped up after having went from free av to SpyBot's Pro having BitDefender as their flagship av aand used it for 3 days until oddball behaviour spooked me and so I unistalled SpyBot. Now poking around to see wuz up wit dis infernal machine. Tried trouble-shooting via clean boot, nothing pointed to nuttin. Went to use elevated command prompt (from me as admin) and yet the command or 'DOS' window seems to indicate I'm not an Admin, ref. see scr-shot. As I read and recall, the resulting command line (as an Admin) is supposed to read as C:\Windows\system32, no? Any wisdomeers out presently here?  Will hang a bit and den check back every hr or so.  Best regards and happ-e-trail otherwise, wguru

Hello Tara, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, either tutorial below can help you to create a shortcut that will allow the standard user to run the elevated program without being prompted by UAC to enter an administrator's password.

OR

This is a question on file and folder location.

The program being used creates a file in a directory.

From my use of Win 7 I can only navigate to the file in elevated command mode in the DOS box.

Is there a way to permanently reveal all folders to the Win 7 interface?

Part of the directory tree reads as follows:

c:\users\all users\my directory\another directory\ .file name

In Win 7, all users and the rest cannot be retrieved with search.

The goal is to make a shortcut to the .file name directory

A:Use elevated command mode within Win 7

Welcome.

The folder "All Users" is a hidden protected operating system file/folder.

See this tutorial to unhide.

This is going to sound like a question from the Twilight Zone.

My comp was starting to run hot ( 45 - 55C under normal conditions.).

I was about to open case and do a thorough cleaning, but first cleaned the keyboard thoroughly.

I have been using the comp for over an hour and it now doesn't go over 35C!

I know it has to be a coincidence, Right??!!

A:Question about elevated heat

That's one of the weirder problems that I've seen, but yeah, I would chalk that up to coincidence.
