I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm running Win10 Pro 64bit and Revo Uninstaller Pro v3.1.5. There is a huge discrepancy in the installed programs lists provided by Revo Uninstaller and the Win10 Programs and Features control panel. They both say there are 83 installs (that's good). But Revo Uninstaller claims that 15 programs were installed a few days ago on 2/29/2016. The correct number is 3 which is what Win10 says. Today I uninstalled Revo Uninstaller (using Revo Uninstaller to do it) and then reinstalled it. No help.

I guess it might be OK to ignore this discrepancy but I find it surprising.

A:Lost Programs & Features list

If you used a registry cleaner, the registry has been damaged. Restore the backup it made, or reinstall the programs. A restore point will work, too, if you have one from before you did any system cleaning.

If no "cleaning" was done, you can probably at least substitute MyUninstaller for uninstalling programs.

I installed Arduino software, part of which included installing a number of drivers. I uninstalled the software using the internal software uninstall feature. Apparently it removed the drivers, but for some reason they still show up in the Windows install/uninstall list. I try to uninstall them using the Windows uninstaller, but I get an error stating that the drivers are not there (at that address). The problem is, I cannot re-install the drivers, because for some reason they still show as being installed by the Windows installer and the software refuses to re-install.

So, how do I remove a file name from the install/uninstall list on Windows 10? A file name for a file that is already deleted?

A:Cannot Uninstall Drivers from Install/Uninstall List - Windows 10

Hi, Geek uninstaller (free) offers a range of removal options if you right click an entry.

However, you may have parts of the program left over.

1. Does the program's site offer a manual uninstaller or uninstall instruction?
2. Check the various folders that may have been created when you installed it for leftovers.
(Try Locate32 (free) - let it index all your files then you can quickly check for anything related to the name of your program on a find-as -you-type basis).
If you find any exe's left over, then use
Revo (free)
to force uninstall these.

Your problem will be knowing if anything is left over that you don't want.

Finally you can search the registry.
Try Regscanner (free) as this lists all found unlike Regedit which is 1 by 1.

Create a system restore point or back up your registry and delete remnants.

Good luck!

I am currently using Symantec Endpoint Protection along with Zemana Anti Logger.

I've switched from Keycrambler Pro to Zemana. I've never experienced conflicts or anything with using Keyscrambler and Symantec Endpoint.

I do know that Zemana offers a couple of additional anti malware features that Keyscrambler does not, which is why i ask if it will conflict or effect functionality of Symantec Endpoint 12 in any kind of way.

Also, if i use VMWare to test to what antiviruses will catch what (i have several different versions of antiviruses that a couple friends are allowing me to use their licences), is there a chance that the viruses i put on there intentionally infect my machine, the one running the virtual machine, as long as i do not have my external hard drives plugged in?

Thanks in advance.

Hi! I am SO frustrated and am really hoping someone has a clue whats going on. It all started when I tried to install an application that requires .NET Framework 3.5 sp1. However when I open it, it says "please wait..." as though it is populating a list but after that dissappears there is NOTHING. I know what it is supposed to look like but there is nothing there. Obviously I have Windows Features. ANY advice? Thanks!

I tried to post this on Windows Newsgroups, Vista General Discussion, but it seems to be broken. There has not been a new post in 14 hours.

Anyway, I have Vista Home premium on a desktop

When I open "Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off" the list is empty. It momentarily says "Please Wait...", then never populates the list.

I read that it may have something to do with Windows Updates errors, so I checked my history. I found 9 failed ones from 10-15 and 10-14. I went to the windows download site and tried to manually install them. Every one I tried ended with a message: "This update does not apply to your machine." I didn't bother to try a couple of them since I do not use Windows mail. Maybe that had nothing to do with it. The problem persists.

I ran sfc /scannow and after completion it said corrupt files were found but was unable to fix some of them. I don't have a Vista CD but I do have all of the recovery disks I made when it was new, however I'm not sure how to proceed.

Am I on the right track?

Sorry bad title, hard to explain the issue. I'll try to do better now.

On my Apps list is the installed apps. As expected. But many of the installed apps include more than just the app in the list. An example, I have installed RoboForm on the Apps List is a list of several RoboForm icons. The icons, Buy RoboForm, Generate Passwords, New version check, RoboForm, RoboForm Editor, Search Box, Search Files, Taskbar Icon, and Uninstall. A total of 9 Icons for this one program (App.) I have other apps with the same issue, but RoboForm is the worst. Is there a way to group these icons so that I only have 1 RoboForm icon? There are also other icons on the list that I would like to delete such as the "Register Device" that came with my new Dell laptop. It was registered now I don't need / want to be reminded to do that again.

Hopefully this makes sense to readers, it is very frustrating to me.

A:How can I group the list in the Apps list?

Hello Ron,

If you like, you can sort the Apps screen by name, date installed, most used, or category. Name or category may be best for what you are wanting.
Apps Screen - Sort By in Windows 8.1
Afterwards, you can also add or remove items from your Apps screen.
"Apps" Screen - Add or Remove Items in Windows 8
Hope this helps,

One of my systems (out of four) that all have recently ( about 3 weeks back) been completely reloaded for Office 365 including a full run of the MS uninstaller app first, now has a feature that many people have asked for but MS has yet to restore. On this one system spellcheck works in a way I have never seen and I would LOVE to get the same functionality onto the other systems if possible.

In our office, ONE other person out of 30 also seems to have lucked out and gotten the same setup but no one else has.
This is Office 365 Business installing the 2016 App package. All users have the same option which is Office Insider Slow.

On the one "special" copy Spellcheck has become a much More useful and handy option. Any misspelled word is underlined in the usual red squiggly line but after that, right clicking it brings up many new options to correct.

It has the usual suggested correct spellings - but - now each of them is accompanied by a short dictionary-like definition of the word when spelled that way. PLUS they each have another black arrow that if clicked offers to read the word aloud and more important offers to make that spelling of the word into an Auto-correct option.. Right There!. No need to jump through all the usual hoops to get it added.

This same 'feature' also works in Word and all the other Office Desktop Apps on that o... Read more

Just when I thought I had computers figured out, after having built several from guides on this website and troubleshooted many problems with other guides, I have run into a problem that I'm sure has an embarrassingly obvious solution.

I am trying to uninstall winamp, and naturally I attempted Control Panel - Programs and Features - Winamp - uninstall, the normal method of uninstalling programs. But winamp is simply not listed there, and every guide at winamp's site or a google search starts with that method and offers no others. I know winamp is still there because it still opens and runs and associates every file with it.

OK. I know how to "go to file location" and some of the other basic tips, but I am still having two issues with the Windows 10 start menu after several hours of searching reading and pulling hair out.

1) A few of my apps (programs I installed, not apps from the store) were originally in folders with no other shortcuts in them, so I decided to remove those folders and put the shortcut at the top level. This leaves me with a Mozilla Firefox shortcut which I want to rename to just "Firefox". I can rename it, but no matter what, it just stats under M in the all apps list. I also have 2 other apps with this problem, but I listed Firefox as an example.

2) When I open the start menu (before entering All Apps), I wonder if there is a way to replace "File Explorer" with "My PC" or some other label. I have already changed the behavior of this button to open the "My Computer" screen I am used to. I just want to change the label if possible.

Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this.

Although I am not a gamer, I tried adding the exe for Cinema 4D to the list, but it didn't activate the Virtu process when I opened C4D.

So I was wondering - has any forum members sucessfully added any graphics apps to the Virtu list, or is it really only for 3D games and just gets triggered by DirectX etc.

BTW I would like to use both on-die and discrete gfx because my Black Gold HDTV card works great with Intel gfx, but pixelates with the HD5770 card.

A:Lucidlogix Virtu - adding apps to list

I seemed to have solved my Lucid Virtu problem.

Since C4D runs OK on my HD 5770 card, but Black Gold HDTV didn't, I decided to ditch Virtu, stick with the discrete card and sort the pixelation TV issue.

The AMD gfx card drivers were only 1 month old, but a newer version was available. I uninstalled prev drivers and installed the new version but no improvement.

I was poking around with HW Info64 and noticed my gfx card was running at x8 not x16 presumably due to the BG3620 being in slot #2. I moved the HDTV card to slot #3 (which let the HD 5770 gfx card run at x16), rescanned Media Center and now I have HDTV with no pixelation.

I upgraded my Samsung Magician from 4.8 to 4.9. After doing this I was presented with a firmware update to my two Samsung Evo850 SSD's. I did the update on both. All appeared to go well.

Immediately after this however, I noticed that the layout of the tiles on my Start Menu was reset, not laid out in the way I group them. No problem, just rearrange. However one tile was missing - for Flight Simulator X - the main reason this PC exists. I then noticed that this program (FSX) no longer appears in the All Apps list either. It used to be under Games or Microsoft Games I think. I am able to navigate to the fsx.exe application file in the FSX directory and it runs perfectly. This is installed on my second (F:\) non OS SSD drive. Other apps installed on F:\ are ok though. Only FSX is affected.

I tried to "Pin to Start" from the FSX folder (fsx.exe) but it does not. I created a desktop icon to the program (fsx.exe) and tried to pin that to start and it also did nothing. The desktop icon does start the program fine though.

I cannot see anything else that is wrong, just that my FSX is no longer registered as an app in the Windows Start Menu and I am guessing this is causing it to refuse to display as a tile on the Start Menu.

Does anybody have any ideas? I'm thinking maybe a simple registry edit is needed to fix this. Problem is that there are perhaps several hundreds of entries in the registry for this program and related add-ons. Reinstalling/Repairing the progr... Read more

So, I've been trying to add a few things to the app list in the start menu for a while now. Every site I've gone to says to put the shortcuts in "%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs". I have done that multiple times, checked to make sure the shortcuts were pointed at the correct executable, moved the short cuts up a directory and then back to the Programs folder. I have restarted my machine since then, and I'm not quite sure where I'm going wrong.

I can place a new folder or custom shortcut in the correct start menu location (current user or all users) but it will not appear in the All apps list. If I go to the folder or shortcut and right-click Pin to Start it will appear as a tile in the start menu, but still will not show up in the All apps list. I think this behavior started with Version 1511 since it was working for me in the previous version.

A:Unable to add to All apps list in Start Menu

Hi, a quick test seems to show the same. The representation of traditional start menu items and structures in Win 10's start menu is (in my experience) garbage. And not just since the November upgrade. Sorry to have to say that, but it flattens all the subfolders inherited from a 'normal' menu used in Win 7 and 8, loses the sub-folders, including those created by each program's installation, leading to things like

where each 'Help' is from a different program.

If you want a meaningful start menu without these quirks and oddities, try e.g. Classic Shell.

I have a sony vaio laptop which came with a pre-installed windows 8 OS. I recently upgraded it to windows 8.1. After the upgrade, I have observed that many softwares that are actually installed on the system are not listed in the apps list, such as Microsoft office, autocad, freemake, etc. It becomes really inconvenient to open any new file of these softwares.
Can anyone help me fix this issue?
Thank You

A:Apps does not list all the softwares installed in system

hello you can go to the start menu folder and re-pin the programs .you need to enable show hidden files [Go to Control Panel, click on Folder Options, then click on View] first then go to this address in file manager [this pc ] C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu. in there you will find the exe to pin to all apps /start.
good luck any ? just ask

I'm from the old school days of using only spybot s&d and ad-aware but knowing times change and all, looking to get more current and clean my PC back up in the process. In doing a little research I'm using these programs and would like some further recommendations. What do you use? What would you recommend?
1. Spybot (better alt ?)
2. Ad Aware ( better alternatives perhaps?)
3. Tuneup Utilities
4. Malware Bytes
5. Diskeeper

A:List of recommended apps/software for PC maintenence?

Oh I love sharing
Anyways I have not heard of Diskeeper, however i just watched a Youtube video about. It seem like it constanly working which would result in constant resource usage. I use Defraggler i give it a rating of 4/5 I had betters before but i enjoy knowing which files are the problem and the easy to use.

System Info: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html
This is a nice little tool to indentify information about the computer. I also use speccy by piriform.

HijackThis, helps for analyzing computers useful in many situations of viruses or malware. Doesn't actually fo much clean it's just an alazyser.

CCleaner, basically cleans out temporary folders that can sometimes grow up to be over GB of data. Also cleans empty registry files, it is not a registry optimizer and i would strongly suggest you stay away from Registry optimizers.

Malwarebytes Anti Malware

Microsoft Safety Scanner

Avast is a nice antivirus that has a boot time scanner.

SuperAntiSpyware just because i do not want my spyware program to be constantly running in the background. I can set it to not start auto.

Hi, Is it possible to remove the Search shortcut from the 'All apps' list? I disabled Cortana by renaming the folder and clicking it does nothing so no point in keeping it.

I've kept Calc, Contact, Maps, Edge, Settings & Store but rest of the bunch is afk, EXCEPT Search...

I added the search everywhere from previous version to my toolbar but it mysteriously vanished today, got it back though.
