Retrieving Microsoft Volume License Authorization ID and License Number for Windows Server after IT Employee left company

Q: Retrieving Microsoft Volume License Authorization ID and License Number for Windows Server after IT Employee left company

Hi folks,
I am working with a company (that I have actually worked with for over 10 years on a consulting basis) and we are auditing our Microsoft Windows Server and server product licenses and preparing to upgrade Windows Server products. We have ran into a snag, where the former System Administrator left the company a few years ago, however it was understood that the information regarding the VLSC was transferred to another partner in the company. A new Systems Administrator has taken over, and we have determined that we do not have this information, including a Microsoft account username and password to access the VLSC and our Windows Server 2008R2 product keys, license agreements, SKUs, and downloads. Unfortunately, the situation became took a turn for the worse about three months ago when the partner that had this information passed away. No one at the company has access to this login information. I currently administer most of their licensing, and have access to their much of their licensing information, download, product keys, etc., but I am clearly missing some very important ones. I called Microsoft and they were of no assistance. Since I am an administrator on the network, I can create a mailbox that the VLSC was probably originally registered under, however the VLSC says that Microsoft account is not even valid, not even prompting for the password.
I have a mailbox on their Exchange Server for their domain to prove I am associated with the company, as well as Licensing IDs and Authorization IDs that I have previous sold them. The volume licenses in question are for Windows Server, and were sold with ESXi and vCenter with two R610s and MD3200. Can someone at Dell please assist me with gaining access to this important information?
Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My product ID listed for Microsoft Office Pro 2016 is not the same as my license number.

Microsoft automatically enabled/activated Office 2016 and I was not asked to enter my license number. I think the wrong license number was added by mistake. How can I fix this?

This machine is a very common model in my environment and I have done many fresh windows installations using the OEM license key without issue. however, on this particular machine, it reports it cannot activate because it cannot contact the KMS for activation.
Again, to clarify, this is the OEM product key that has been automatically pulled over from UEFI and NOT a MAK/KMS key.

I've run diagnostics as typically requested for this type of issue and can provide any additional information you might need. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!!

I have an HP Pavilion 15 that came shipped with Windows 8.1 and I need to replace it with Windows 8.1 Pro from our VLC. I have an ISO file for Windows 8.1 Pro that I downloaded from our Microsoft Volume License Center burned onto a DVD. I tried changing the BIOS boot order to boot from the DVD. Did not work.I tried the Update and Recovery: Advanced startup: Troubleshoot: Advanced Options: System Image Recovery     This did not recognize the ISO file in the DVD Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi, Rather than changing the boot priority in the bios menu, try the following. With the notebook running, insert the Windows 8.1 Pro installation disc and Shutdown the notebook with the disc still in the optical drive. Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to enter the Start-up Menu and then select the Boot Options Menu ( f9 ). Use the arrow keys to highlight the CDROM option and hit enter - if prompted to 'Press any key to continue....' - do so. Regards, DP-K

I am running Win8.1 Home on my laptop.  I have access to a Win8.1 Pro (volume license) through my university.

My question is - how do I do the upgrade, keeping all my data and system settings intact?
(I have looked at the info online, and the closest I have come to an answer is 'you need media, this cannot be done through the online Store'.  I have an <Win8.1-Pro-x64 .ISO> disc, is this sufficient?)

Thanks for any pointers.

I recently had to upgrade from Vista to 7 due to a virus and lost some pre installed software (MS Office Enterprise 07).  I contacted MS and they told me it was a Volume License and I needed to contact the reseller, which was HP since I ordered the computer online with upgrades.  I have a righteous version with a valid product key but I don't know how to get a viable copy of this software. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I wonder whether it is possible to download windows with a license number.

Today I bought a PackardBell laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium x64. It did not come with a Windows disc, but there's an option to make a recovery disk. However, I suspect that this will also add all the PackardBell crap which I'm trying to get rid off by performing a new installation, so this is not really an option. Furthermore I doubt whether it's a good idea to restore your system by simply making a copy of everything on your hard drive rather than doing a clean install.

So my question is, is it possible to obtain a download or disc of Windows 7, without needing to pay a fortune. After all, I already own a license of Windows 7 for this laptop.
Will the license key on my laptop work with any install of Windows 7 Home Premium x64, whether obtained legally or not?

You'll be given 2 sets of licenses. MAK And KMS... You'll add only the MAK keys into your image.

I lost sticker with license number Windows XP to Toshiba NB100. I have an invoice.
How can I retrieve licence number?

Authorized service refused to support this topic.

A:No sticker with license number Windows XP to Toshiba NB100

You cannot retrieve the licence number.
First of all the sticker on the bottom of the unit was an OEM serial key. Such key cannot be used and would not work in connection with fresh installed Win XP system.

The point is that Toshiba image which was preinstalled on this notebook was already activated and this means that such key was useless.

I assume you did not create a Toshiba Recovery disk (or flash USB stick) in the past? Right?
Such disks would reinstall the Toshiba image containing activated Win XP system.

Well, usually it?s possible to order such disk [here|http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx] but I think this would not be possible anymore because of the notebook age.

Solution: you would need to purchase the Win XP with valid serial key.

Hi all, new user, first time poster and hoping you smart cats can help me. The forums have always provided answers in the past, but I feel I need to ask this one myself.

So, after three hours on the phone with MS Customer Support today (Worst time to call, by the way), I find out that this computer I purchased from a local company I did contract work for is unable to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, and therefore, unable to be upgraded to Windows 10. It has a volume license key, which is not allowed to be upgraded via store or any other method (apparently).

MS support suggested I take this back to the company I purchased it from. The issue with that is that I purchased it at very low cost because the company was going out of business. No luck there. I thought maybe it was an Enterprise copy, since those cannot be upgraded, but the System screen shows Windows 8 Pro.

So Microsoft's one and only suggestion was to purchase a "legitimate" product key, which got me to thinking it was a pirated version or some sort, but they checked and said it was not.

So, I come to you with the hopes that someone has successfully upgraded a volume license Windows 8 Pro to Windows 8.1, and then, hopefully, to Windows 10. I will leave this here and head off to bed, and I sincerely hope someone can be kind enough to assist. Please let me know if you need further information. Cheers!

A:Volume License Key'd Windows 8 Pro Upgrade Assistance Need

Volume MAK keys are not only version, but edition specific, meaning one can't upgrade with them - thus going to 8.1, let alone Win 10, is not possible without a new key.

PS: Run ShowkeyPlus to check if you have a Windows 7 OEM marker - we can then get you back to factory install and upgrade to Win 10 from there.

Hi guys,
I am looking for some answers on how I may update my Windows 8 Pro computer to 8.1 and then to the 8.1 update, if possible.
It's a volume licensed copy of Windows and I have no access to these updates. From what I've read, I need an MSN (what ever it's called) subscription to have access to these updates. I've seen articles around the web with ways to update, such as this one William's Blog: How to upgrade Windows 8 volume license to Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store but I do not want to do anything illegal or mess up my computer, so I want to be safe and ask you knowledgeable guys first. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

A:Updating volume license copy of Windows 8 Pro

Well you could get an MSDN subscription but at $699 (How to buy) for the year it isn't a cheap way to do what you want.

Unfortunately you can't legitimately upgrade from Enterprise to Pro - you'll need to buy the normal version and do a clean install. 8.1 costs $120 from Microsoft. 8.1 Pro is $200 (Buy Windows 8.1 Pro - Microsoft Store). You might find it cheaper elsewhere but personally I would not risk it - you'll end up buying a non-legitimate key. If it was my money I'd buy the standard Windows rather than the Pro version - the only thing you would need Pro for is joining a domain and in that case your company would pay for it. All the other "advantages" have free alternatives but see here Compare Windows 8.1 Editions in case any of them are worth $80 to you.

On the bright side it is far cheaper than in the past. I paid $190 to upgrade from 7 Pro to Ultimate just to get the language packs which are now free.

This virus takes control at startup by initiating various command prompt windows and a multitude of odd processes in task manager including, but not limited to, several chrome.exe processes and gplyra.exe. Computer runs very hot. After about 30 seconds a screen pops up completely hijacking the screen which prevents you from accessing the desktop and using task manager. The virus also created its own user account and the only way to turn the laptop off is by holding the power button.
I was unable to run FRST while running windows normally, the only way I could run FRST was while in safe mode. I'm possibly interested in buying a license for Windows Server 2012/16 Standard Edition. How can I do that?

I've searched around on the net. The Microsoft Store is out of stock of the only version they offer. After an hour and half on the phone with Microsoft they weren't able to get close to offering a license for sale. Apparently, you can't simply purchase a license online and download an installation image. I've noticed a few OEM licenses for sale from 3rd party resellers I am not comfortable with and I prefer a full retail version anyway.

So how do you buy a license from a reputable organization?

A:Buying a Windows Server License

The Server stuff was just released at Ignite a week or two ago. I have to imagine MS hasn't fully rolled things out just yet. This should clear up before October ends, but in the meantime, here is some stuff to read and puzzle over:
1. search for "Windows Server 2016 licensing FAQ" in Google or wherever (can't produce a workable PDF for the resulting document)
2. Windows Server 2016 Licensing Pricing | Microsoft

When MS gets around to putting it up for retail sale, you'll be able to find it easily using Google shopping, or even the Windows Store. Not yet, though...

My enterprise has perchased many licenses of Windows 7 Pro.  including KMS activation license key.  And I have deployed the KMS activation infrastructure in my enterprise network.
Recently, we bought a set of Opliplex 3010 , 7010 & 9010 PCs, nearly 100 PCs. All of them are N-series without pre-installed Windows 7 by Dell factory.
I tried deploy OS and many enterprise APPs to these PCs through network , using MDT.

The OS image I used in MDT is Window 7 Pro Volume License Edition which was from Microsoft volume license site. But the KMS method cannot activate Windows 7 Pro. on Optiplex 3010, 7010, 9010 .

After deployment, the PCs telled that the the volume license key is invalid, MAK is required. Windows cannot be activated.

But the issue has never come out on any other computers of our enterprise before.
I have been searching for the solution on internet, but get nothing. And some one said that the BIOS somewhere is locked or modified by Dell to prevent
prated operating system. But the OS and KMS we are using is lawful.
Can any one tell me how to activate our volume licensed Windows 7 Pro. by the KMS infrastructure in my enterprse? Thanks!

A:Volume license activation (KMS infrastructure) cannot activate Windows 7 Pro. on Optiplex 3010, 7010, 9010 ?

did you purchase these computers without any OEM Windows license?
Volume Licensing agreements only offer "upgrade", not "full" - an existing license such as OEM, will have the necessary SLIC table in BIOS populated, and this is usually what VL products look for, to confirm legitimacy.
You can use the MGADiag utility from MS to confirm the SLIC table in BIOS has been populated.
Without the SLIC table populated in BIOS, it may be necessary for you to use MAK not KMSDon

Here it says "product key: windows 10 on this device is activated with digital entitlement"

There is not an option to Link my microsoft account with Windows 10 licence key.

I thought that I would ask this question before running the diagnostic tool referenced above, in case there is a simple yes or no answer to this so as not to waste peoples' time.

Last November I built a new computer and purchased a copy of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit from eBay. I had some difficulty installing it due to the fact that I had to use the Windows DVD and data on the ASUS DVD to create an ISO file so that the copy of Windows 7 to be installed would have support for USB 3.0. I finally got it to install and I have been running the computer for about 9 months without difficulty. Then on Sunday afternoon, I noticed a message in the lower right-hand corner of the screen telling me that my copy of Windows was not genuine.

I right-clicked on Computer in the Start menu, selected Properties and then attempted to re-enter my product key that came with the Windows 7 DVD that I bought. I got the message that the product key had been blocked by Microsoft. I called a number for Microsoft and was told that the license had been activated too many times and I would need to contact the seller to get an extension. The seller is no longer on eBay. I had not activated the license since last November, so I don't know why it took Microsoft nine months to figure out that the software was not genuine.

If Microsoft is telling me that the license has been activated too many times, is there any use in running the tools referenced above? Is is possible they are just looking at information on ... Read more

A:Microsoft says I've activated my Windows 7 license too many times.

I would estimate that 90%+ of Windows software sold on eBay is counterfeit in some way. A lot of these scams utilise old previously used Multiple Use keys that are sold to businesses or issued to MSDN members. It would appear that you have fallen victim to one of these unscrupulous sellers

Follow the information here ...Windows Genuine and Activation Issue Posting Instructions and post the logs requested. One of our Activation specialists should be able to confirm the status of the Key you have.

If it does turn out that you have a key you could try contacting eBay with the details of the seller and your purchase information and they may process a refund for you. Another option is to contact Microsoft, and report that you have been sold a counterfeit copy of windows that you purchased in good faith, They have been known to investigate the seller and provide a free valid key to the user

You can put your tinfoil hats away now.Two weeks ahead of the global launch of Windows 10, Microsoft has finalized the terms of its license agreements for the new operating system. I've had several days to study the documents in detail, and I can report that there are no surprises, no gotchas, and no hidden subscription traps waiting to be sprung in two or three or four years.Sorry to disappoint you, conspiracy theorists.Microsoft has consistently said that its new "Windows as a service" model doesn't change the basic licensing terms for Windows. Based on these documents, that's still true.Microsoft releases new license terms for Windows 10: Biggest surprise? No gotchas

I had a window pop-up that I feel strongly based on research I have done is some Malware/Virus which is fishing for us to call a phone number and pay for help.  It alleges to be Microsoft but I know that's not right.  I also have some random redirects in play right now as well when I try and search.  In general I fell I just need a thorough checkup and dis-infection.  Below is a pic of the screen as it was when the pop-up occurred.

My lap top was loaded with a suspended os recently and I was given a link to use to change to a new (they verified this new key as okey) replacing the XP key that is bad and leaves my computer locked up.
Does anyone know this link or a Freeware program I can use?

To be able to activate a valid installation, you need to be using the OEM product key attached to your laptop (COA label) or a retail/upgrade product key supplied with a product you own.

How would I find out the license/serial number for my NT 4.0 Workstation? Got the PC used with software installed. Need to re-install but I would like to use same license/serial number as the one currently installed. How can I find out what the current license/serial number is?

A:License/serial number for NT 4.0 Workstation

There is a ProductID value in the registry, but it is not the CD key for re-install. I believe that MS uses that to correlate to the Key. Perhaps you can contact them with that value and request a key. I have heard that with a proper explanation, they will send you one. It is in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion.

Good Luck!

I need 8 windows keys and an install disc for a Non-for-profit group. does any one know where i can get these for windows XP?

A:Volume License

The people to contact for volume licensing (multi-user setup) information would be Microsoft -> Microsoft Volume Licensing - Product Activation

I very much doubt that XP will be available, and it wouldn't be a worthwhile long-term investment anyway since support will end sooner than later.

Good luck.

I did something to mess up all my office programs. I don't know what happened but everytime I try to open Word or Excel or any office program it gives me some "please wait while windows installs" message and then it says I need a CD to continue. I have no idea where the CD is, I don't even know if I ever had a CD, the programs may have come installed on the computer already, I don't remember. Anyhoo, I downloaded a program called Balarc Advisor to find my registry key or whatever I need to download office again without having to buy it again. So now I have the exact version of office that was on my computer and the software license number thanks to the belarc program. The problem is I don't know how to use this information. I went on the Microsoft website, but they only have an option to download the newest version of office. How do a get the old version?

A:reinstall office 2000-no cd but do have license number

If you have a license number, and it's registered to you, then you should be able to contact Microsoft and get replacement CDs.

I am trying to add a hard drive to my home computer. I brought home my office copy of NG 2002. When I installed it I skipped the registration because I already had my old one from my office installation. Well, it changed the number and now I can't retrieve it. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but it doesn't go through the registration process again. How can I retrieve the license number so I can use it on my home computer?

A:Norton Ghost 2002 license number

Welcome to TSG.

If you made a floppy it will give you the license number when it first boots to the floppy. Just write it down before you continue with making the image or restoring. I don’t think I ever registered my copy although it is a legal one. It posts the license number regardless. Not sure why they do that.

Another alternative is to use the utility that comes with the new hard drive to clone the old drive over to the new one. Just hook up the new drive as slave, clone it with the utility and then set the new drive as master. If you got the drive OEM with no software you can download the utility from the manufacturer’s site.

Just a quick question regarding Microsoft office license installs.

I have just been working on an unbootable computer. Prior to this I asked the user what she would like me to back up regarding docs, music etc etc.
In conversation she told me that she had Office 2003 on the system, her software allowed her three licences to install on three different systems which she had done. I managed to fix the computer without loosing anything in the end.

My question is, would I have been able to reinstall Office and activate it just by reinstalling and supplying the VLK if I had reformatted and reinstalled the Operating System.

Thanks in advance of any replies.

A:Office volume license

You should be able to do so with no problem. If you do, however, have an issue you can simply call MS and they'll take care of it on the phone.

We use a Volume license for our Windows 7 computers.
When I reimage a computer, sometimes I am able to use command prompt and slmgr.vbs /ipk xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxx-xxxx
Then I c:> slmgr -ato to activate.
But sometimes I get an error and have to activate over the phone. Unfortunately, this burns up one of my volume license's. How can I reimage a computer and apply a licenses key without burning a volume license which has already been "used" for
this PC?

I have a volume license key and an installation cd for win xp pro but it doesn't even have service pack 1. I have about 30 computers to work on and doing updates have been taking a lot of time. Is there a place where I can download or order xp pro with sp3?

A:[SOLVED] XP Pro SP3 for Volume License

try a google search on "sliptream windows xp sp3" that will assist you, but this will only help you if you are re-installing from the start. There will also be further updates that have been released since sp3 to apply to the systems.
