Dell Precision 7510 TB16 Boot Issues

Q: Dell Precision 7510 TB16 Boot Issues

So I got the TB16 to use with my Windows 10 Precision 7510. I've had issues with the USB devices dropping out randomly but I seem to have got that under control (for now). I'm having another issue of sorts. Updated the BIOS then went into the BIOS changed restart/shutdown to "thorough" and checked "thunderbolt adapter boot support" and "thunderbolt adapter pre boot modules" as I wanted to boot from a USB DVD drive that was connected to the TB16. But when I tried to boot the laptop got stuck on the Dell logo and wouldn't go into POST. I tried diagnostic boot and got the same result. Couldn't get far enough to press F2 or F12. When I disconnected the TB16 and powered on the laptop it booted up fine. I could then connect the TB16 and it would work fine. But if I tried to restart with the TB16 connected I had the same issue. I eventually unchecked "thunderbolt adapter boot support" and "thunderbolt adapter pre boot modules" just so I could restart without having to disconnect the TB16 (I don't know which of the two options is causing the booting issue though). I can get by without booting from the TB16 but I got it partly for that reason so would to get it working if I can. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I got the TB16 to use with my Windows 10 Precision 7510. I've had issues with the USB devices dropping out randomly but I seem to have got that under control (for now).
It might be if the devices are intermittent, they would exhibit problems during a Pre Boot Scan.

You are wanting to boot a UEFI capable DVD, such as the Win 10 Install media, connected to the TB16? If that is the case, I can test to see if I can do it. I am wondering if the Thunderbolt is connected to the PCIe bus if any device there will be checked for boot compatibility.
I suppose you can boot from that USB DVD when connected directly to your system?

Kind of a multi part question here.
I have a Precision 7510 and a TB16 Dock. I have the quadro m2000 graphics card. When I have my dock connected I connect a display port cable from my dock' s display port out to my dell 4k monitor. The max resolution is either FHD at 60 hrz or 3840x2160 at 30hrz. The 30hrz option is not acceptable for me. I end up trying it with a mini display port to the dock with a display port to the monitor adapter cable that came with the monitor. That gives me the full 3840x2160 resolution.
Two questions here.
1 why am I not getting proper output from the full size display port on my dock and is there something that can be done to correct it as I think I should be able to connect another 4k monitor and was thinking about getting another of the dell ones but don't want to unless I know it will work.
2 I see a lot of info on the different revisions of both display port and hdmi. I think the latest display port revision is 1.4 or something and  hdmi is 2.1. What version is my machine able to support? In looking for help online with question 1 I found info that makes me believe it could be related to what version of display port is supported by my machine. That is why I am looking for that info.
Thank you

The newest BIOS update released has major issues with a Windows 7 OS. Issues related to docking stations where, after closing the lid on a 7510 (once in the OS) and putting the system to sleep, the system hangs and you cannot re-awaken it in or out of the dock. When logged into windows, if the power cord or charger is unplugged, the PC freezes and has to be force shutdown.
Anyone else see these issues?

I just recieved the 7510 about 2 weeks ago and have been getting increasingly annoyed with the trackpad which seems to  have issues. The trackpad never seems to stop working completely, but it seems to get stuck for a second pause or stutter frequently. Any suggestions would be welcome.

We have a Dell Precision 5520 that uses a TB16 docking station that all of a sudden is having difficulties connecting to our VPN. It was fine earlier in the day. We tried clearing the DNS cache and tried a winsock reset. THe drivers are up to date and everything.
Also tried to reboot the computer multiple times.
Even tried a K17A Dock and had the same issue.
We were finally able to get the computer to connect to the vpn once we used a usb net adapter to plug the ethernet cable into.
Tried plugging the usb adapter into the computer directly and into the dock. It worked whether it was directly connected to the computer or the dock.
It only does not work when we connect the ethernet cable to into the lan port on the TB16 and K17A dock. And only for the one computer.

At a loss, any ideas?

I just got a new Precision 7510 and can't figure out how to get it to enable numlock automatically on boot.
I checked the BIOS and that is enabled already.
I would like this as I am running WIndows 10 and it is setup to login with a numeric PIN.
Does anyone know how to do this?

I am an Art Director and my work just purchased me a new Dell Precision 7510 with the specs below:
- 4K screen
- 32 GB DDR4 RAM
- Xeon E3-1505M
- Nvidia Quadro M2000M
- 512 SSD
My concern is that it seems like the system isn't running smooth. To me it seems like the system is having a hard time running the 4K screen? I'm experiencing a bunch of Windows UI lag and the system just seems glitchy at times. These problems are especially apparent within the Adobe Creative Suite. Are these known problems? Should I RMA?
Thank you!

I have a Dell Precision 7510 (Intel HD Graphics 530 & NVIDIA Quadro M2000M). I want to drive 3 external displays (Dell U2715H) off of this machine. What are my options? I have the E-Series Port Replicator, is it doable with that?

A:Precision 7510 with 3x Dell U2715H displays

Yes, it will be doable. You might have to mix and match using both the dock and system (depending on the exact dock series), but it looks like if you use ports on the system you can technically get this setup as long as the switchable graphics are enabled (and it should be). Here is also a link discussing this. I got the info above from internal sources, but you also might see this on the sales/support site. Best regards,Brad

I joined Dell Communities very recently after buying myself the Dell Precision 7510 laptop. It's a great product so far, but I want better. I want more ports. A docking station to go with it is the obvious solution.
What is the best docking station compatible with the Dell Precision 7510 laptop??? My specific needs/setup:
- 2 external screens (D-sub / HDMI connection, or for £50 more I can get display-port), possibly more screens in the future
- high-speed internet cable
- headphones/microphone
- USB sockets for mouse, keyboard, printer, scanner, external hard drives, etc.
I presume that the Advance E-port Replicator is the best/most suitable. I just want to be sure of this, because my laptop model (Precision 7510) is still very new, and not all information everywhere has been updated about compatibility. I don't want to make an expensive mistake. I'll be travelling and won't have the opportunity to "return" the products I buy.

A:Docking Station for Dell Precision 7510

Yes. I contacted Dell sales... and they told me that the Dell E-Port Plus II, is compatible with my Precision 7510. After written confirmation I went ahead and bought it from a UK supplier on Amazon for £100... but it came in dodgy packaging and wasn't quite working, and the adapter was the size of a brick (literaly). I returned that back to Amazon... and tried my luck with Amazon Germany. You can get the original product from them for about 140 euros, and it works perfectly. The link to the product:
(that's actually UK now that I check it... that's the one I bought and it's good)
Basically Dell hasn't updated it's information about compatability yet. The docking station is listed in the check-out for the Precision 7510, but doesn't specifically say it is compatible with that model. I've had other similar problems elsewhere too, like I want to instal LoJack on my laptop, but can't find any information on whether my laptop model supports something called "persistence technology" in the BIOS (which makes it impossible to uninstall LoJack even if you change hard drives).

I faced bugs in 1.14.4 BIOS firmware for Precision 7510.
1. Switchable graphics enabled.
Laptop always behave same way. It boot normally, but there is no image on 4K laptop's display (black screen, no backlight) while firmware booting. HDMI functions only if the laptop cover is closed.
Laptop's 4k display switches on after linux kernel started loading. So it works normally with 4k resolution in Linux OS. It always work in linux.

2. Switchable graphics disabled.
Laptop's display functions occasionally since the start of the BIOS firmware loading. So sometimes i can go to BIOS settings / operate boot sequence and so on. If screen does not functions immediately after the laptop turned on, then there is no image in Linux and there is no image via hdmi (coolers are operate, keyboard is highlighted).
If screen operates it operates normally in 4k resolution in Linux. If screen operates it usally does not funtions after reboot.
I guess that this behavior is caused by incorrect handling of second mode from panel's EDID by BIOS firmware.

Hi everyone,
I always get trouble when installing the win7 on my precision.
Currently it has an Ubuntu preinstalled system on it, but I want to install my windows 7 on my laptop.
I have read tons of threads about the problems I met and it turns out that it is the USB 3.0 port get me into the trouble.
There are also some posts addressing this problem but they all rely on windows system.
To be simplified, my precision 7510 only has USB 3.0 ports on it and its OS is preinstalled Ubuntu and I want to install windows 7 through USB port(They are all 3.0 ports).
If someone can help me I will be really appreciated.

I bought a new Dell Precision 7510 in October 2016, and it didn't take long for me to notice that the TrackStick will occasionally stop responding. This is most noticeable when clicking-and-dragging, for example, when selecting text or moving a window. In general, the TrackStick is not completely unresponsive when this happens - sometimes it just stutters a bit, sometimes it freezes completely but letting go of the mouse for a second or pushing the TrackStick really hard will make it respond again. Regardless, the problem is incredibly annoying and disruptive to my work. There are also occasional problems with the TouchPad - sometimes clicking a TouchPad button while I have a finger on the TouchPad would cause the pointer to jump to the bottom right corner of the screen and become unresponsive for 1-2 seconds.
I contacted Dell Support, and they sent me a new Palm Rest and Keyboard. The new Keyboard didn't seem to have any impact on the behavior, but the new Palm Rest did. With the new Palm Rest, the TrackStick freezes happen much less frequently (although they do still happen occasionally), but the TouchPad will freeze periodically (at about the same frequency as the TrackStick freezes on the original Palm Rest, but without the pointer jumping to the bottom right corner of the screen as with the TouchPad issue on the original Palm Rest), and occasionally th... So my company orders laptops from Dell, and as per usual ordered one downgraded from Win 10 to Win7.
In this case it is a Dell Precision 7510 with an Intel i7 and an SSD Lite On CX2 NVMe 512 GB. The SSD failed pretty quickly and Dell sent someone to replace it. I think he also replaced the Motherboard. Unfortunately trying to boot our Win
7 Pro image failed because this machine has only USB 3, and the standard Win 7 image has no drivers for USB 3. So the guy left before we got to installing Windows, which I now regret. I added USB 3 drivers to the image and got as far into the install as selecting
a drive but no drive is found ?and it invites me to load a driver for mass storage.
But I cannot find a driver for any Lite On SSD. I?ve never seen an SSD that needed one to be added, actually so not sure if this is the right way to tackle this. I have seen suggestions
of using another make of driver and I downloaded a load of different ones including Intel on the theory that?s the chipset. In BIOS I get option for AHCI and RAID On and I tried both with same result.
It recognizes different drivers if I check ?Hide drivers that are not compatible?, depending on RAID or AHCI. But any I can see and load still give no drive visible. DISKPART also fails to find the disk so none of the solutions which involve
DISKPART are useful right now.
If it?s relevant when I go to boot options I get: Boot mode ? Legacy, Secure boot: Off.

I have been a long time fan of Dells hardware for servers, desktops, midrange laptops, and my own favorites, the Precision line laptops since the late 90s. I am a CTO-like figure that consults for several companies simultaneously at any given time considering my wide range of technical backgrounds is sort of hard to find all in one experienced person willing to travel to your far flung locale.
That being said, I'd like to make a few suggestions because I don't plan on buying the Precision line for our developers or myself in the future as a result of one particular bone-headed change that are making life very difficult me and my teams.

- Offer an optional keyboard for the Precision-line units (CRITICAL)
The original earlier keyboards (M4800 and earlier) had easy access to full sized Directional Arrows, Pause/Break, Scroll Lock, Home, End, Insert, Delete keys. Most modern consumers ( ie. grandma) have no use for these keys, but professional computer systems engineers that work on all sorts of weird *** every day do, and guess which one buys expensive Precision line laptops? The keyboard unit pops out. Simply offer an option and these units will be our next purchase.
In a given year we estimated that our average developer uses that above combination of keys 3000~4000 times a month in order to avoid using the mouse and/or multiple key press actions, until now that is where it is no longer an option. For people who measure their productivity in how much code they... Read more

I recently bought a Dell Precision 7510 off eBay. It does have a warranty, although I don't think that would make a difference in this case, as this isn't exactly warranty related. I just wondered if anyone has ever paid a premium to have Dell upgrade a screen or otherwise. I can get the screen itself off eBay for a decent price, but I'm uncertain if they are the same connector type.

A:Can I send in my Dell Precision 7510 for a 4k screen upgrade?

No - Dell does not support screen upgrades after purchase.  If you wish to do this, you're on your own.  Note however that replacing the screen will void the system warranty (assuming the seller transferred the warranty/registration to you - otherwise, there is no warranty).

I have been having issues with updating Bios and drivers with my 7510 since January.
It has Xeon E3 1535 cpu; 64GB 2100Mhz DDR4 ECC; Quadro m2000m and Samsung 960 PRO NVME M.2 SSD
It started after a BIOS update from Windows Update failed. I had added 4x 2400MHz ECC DDR4 to the machine and the new BIOS supported only 2100MHz So it rolled back by itself. After that I bought two 2100MHz ECC DDR4 sticks and installed those, as I knew that RAM works in pairs and always takes the speed of the lowest stick. So I tried to update the BIOS manually after that. I wasn't able to. and many things broke after that also. The computer does not shut down anymore. I have to restart it and press power when I see the POST screen. It sometimes loses USB and / or mousepad buttons (the pad and tapping on pad works fine)
I got this from Dell Outlet as Dell Refurbished in january 2017.
I have tried several things:
a) Downloaded drivers via service tag / product detection from support.dell.com. The Bios installation file always tells me that:
"The AC adapter and battery must be plugged in before the system BIOS can be flashed.Press OK when they are both plugged in or CANCEL to quit."
Ofcourse I have them plugged in, I have tried it docked, on 3 different ORIGINAL and two non-original adapters with different power output up to 240W. I had 72Wh battery on it before but ever since I have purchased a 91Wh original battery from Dell dealership to make sure everything is ok.

Is there a way to fix washed out colors on a Dell Precision 7510?  I am guessing this is a pretty expensive unit and the colors look washed out and difficult to read because the contrast is so poor.
Also text is tiny on this and scaling messes up everything else on the screen.  Some things are too small and others too big.  Its huge size differences.
I have tried all the settings to help make the text better and colors more clear but then the dark is too dark and the light is too light.  There is no middle ground here.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

A:Dell Precision 7510 Colors Washed Out and small text

If that system has the Intel Display Power Saving Technology setting, that is very likely responsible for your washed out colors.  If the setting is available, it will be under Intel Graphics Settings > Power > On Battery, or thereabouts.  What operating system and display resolution is your Precision 7510 running?  Also note that in many cases, scaling changes require you to log off and back on in order to be applied properly.  Newer releases of Windows 10 and third-party applications have been getting better about redrawing themselves immediately so that this isn't required, but that's not universally true yet, so if you haven't tried that yet, see if you like the appearance of text and graphic elements after a logoff/logon cycle.

Title in the subject line pretty much says it.I've got a Dell Precision 5510 and a TB16 dock.It is currently running Windows 10 1703 but this issue existed under Windows 10 1607 as well.
Sequence of events/how to replicate:

Connect the Precision 5510 to the TB16 dock (presence of any other combination of peripherals seems to be irrelevant)
Boot into Windows 10 and enable BitLocker using TPM and a PIN
Shutdown and power on or /restart, whilst still connected to the TB16, enter your PIN and boot successfully
Shutdown and disconnect from the TB16 dock then try to boot - BitLocker prompts for the great big recovery key (what a pain)
Entering the recovery key and proceeding to boot is fine, as is shutting down and trying to boot again with the TB16 attached but if you're away from the office (and the TB16) and don't have the recovery key, then you're in a bit of a pickle!
If you've...

Booted with the TB16 attached
Shutdown and disconnected from the TB16
Booted to encounter BitLocker recovery (but luckily had the recovery key with you and entered it)
Continued to use the Precision 5510 away from the TB16 and restarted...then you have no need to encounter BitLocker recovery and re-enter the recovery key again

One you go back to connecting to the TB16 though... you guessed it, you need to re-enter the recovery key again.
I see two ways to look at this:

What's going on at a hardware level that is resulting in this behaviour? Is there something at a dock c... Read more

I have big trouble with my two units of Dell Precision 7510. I want to disable "Switchable graphics", because some OS do not support two graphics simultaneously. So, I have unchecked "Switchable graphics" in the BIOS settings, restarted and... display is gone. Notebook is working (system is booting in the background), display is back lighted, but nothing appears on the display. I have checked BIOS 1.10 and 1.20 on two units with identical configuration. I have been checking many times with different BIOS configurations. Always disabling "Switchable gprahics" makes system unusable.
In fact, I have successfully booted up one or two times with "Switchable graphics" BIOS option disabled. In that case the Intel P530 graphic card was disabled totally and AMD FirePro was running perfectly all uptime. Unfortunately, it was one or two times. 99,9% attempts were unsuccessful. When I disable "Switchable graphics" and restart, I get without-signal display. The only solution is reset BIOS setting to default by removing and putting back the coin battery.
Could anybody confirm that issue? My hardware configuration is Intel i5-6300HQ, AMD FirePro W5170M, 1x16 GB DDR non-ECC and UltraSharp IGZO-Display Ultra HD.

A:BUG REPORT: disable "Switchable graphics" make Dell Precision 7510 unusable

I also have almost the same issue with it. What I found out by now - if energy saving is on, you can let windows start (to the login screen that you don't see), close the display (enable standby), re-activate it, and mostly the display is coming after that. I never had to reset BIOS (v1.20) to make it work again.
As the screen itself is turning on (background led), i think the issue is about the connection from the AMD FirePro W5170M card to the display when switching is enabled. IGP isn't experiencing this issue at all.
What's also part of this issue is, when IGP is disabled, the display is flickering from time to time in Windows (Windows 7 x64). This issue neither changed when I updated the driver, nor was it affected by installing Catalyst.
At last I also saw 10-15% performance differences between the two modes (even if the application was run by the AMD GPU).
Our configuration is Intel i7-6820HQ, AMD FirePro W5170M, 1x16GB non-ECC, also with the UHD Display.

Same issues with the Dell TB16 as with the TB15???
The TB16 is not the fix I was expecting after all the issues with my2016 TB15. Last year which I managed to get a full refund for from Dell. My new TB16 arrived last Thursday, and initially when I plugged it into my XPS15 and everything worked fine (for a little while). Now I cannot get my HDMI and DP screens to work at the same time, it's one or the other, the USB ports are intermittent and its hit and miss whether the TB16 charges my laptop, if I touch the TB16 or lightly brush the Thunderbolt lead, I lose Ethernet, charging or the one screen I've managed to coax into working.
Dell tech support guy logged onto my XPS15 this morning and saw first hand the issues, and they have now agreed to send out a replacement TB16 which should arrive by the end of the week, but to be honest I don't have any faith that the next one is going to be any better than the pile of SH 1 T currently connected to my laptop
I have told Dell technical support that I'll be looking for a refund of the TB16 and my XPS15 if they can't resolve the docking station issues.
My faith in Dell products is rapidly diminishing, and I would strongly advise people to think twice before parting with many $$$ for products that in my view really aren't worth the money, aggregation and frustration.

Sorry to hear you are still having trouble.   I assume that the technician walked you through all of the required updates but just in case, please refer to this article.   If you are still using downrev BIOS, chipset, firmware or drivers, this could be the source of the problem with the new TB16.   If you continue to see issues after updating and receiving the replacement dock, please reach out to me via PM with service tag and contact information so that we can get you up and running.

I suppose those speakers have not been added to the choices or there is no reason to do so since the other option suffices.

We have a Tb16 dock in at the moment for trial. It is very unstable on our Latitude 7370's
We've installed all the latest drives from Dell, updated firmware on both the Dock and the laptops but still face issues
The main problem problem as far as I can see is the ASMedia USB 3.0 Extended Host Controller Driver , when installed the dock will just not work with ethernet or USB. No connection at all. If we remove this driver and allow Microsoft to install it's own version then the USB and Ethernet ports work OK however then another issue occurs, the connection constantly drops out over and over again , internet drops out, USB stops working (with the familiar sound you hear when you disconnect a USB device from a PC) and then reconnects again, this happens over and over again. I use the NIRSOFT tool USBLogView and there was hundreds of connects and disconnects over a few hours
The only way we've managed to get it stable is to either put the device into air plane mode or put the power setting on the WiFi adapter down to 1 which obviously isn't a good work around

This isn't just one one laptop either, this is on all our Latitude 7370's we've tested

I have a Dell 7510 (2-SSD drives) and I am using UEFI.  I would like to run/boot UBUNTU 16.04 USB Live and Linux Mint 18 USB Live from the USB port.  After testing from the USB ports I will then install them into the two PCIe SSD drives and change the boot sequence to run one or the other.

When I look at the UEFI boot sequence I do not see a USB option or the second PCIe SSD drive.

Can you help me add the USB and other drive to the boot sequence table?

Another help with be appreciated

It is not possible to add to the boot sequence table. Yours may look different, but what I see here is what is offered by the BIOS =

I'm having trouble installing our enterprise Win 7 on a new Precision 7510. Been doing this for years on all manner of Dell laptops.
I've followed the instrux posted elsewhere to load SATA drivers onto the USB flash, along with the USB 3 conversion from Intel. I have no trouble loading the driver at the appropriate time.
I get to the point where the Win 7 installer asks where to install Windows. I load the driver, but "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
I can create partitions, delete them, etc. The factory partitions are deleted.
Tried various BIOS settings: Raid is ON, Secure boot is OFF, Boot List option is UEFI, basically all factory settings at this point. I've tried tweaking them, no joy.
One thing, under System Config > Drives, I have four: SATA-0, SATA-1, SATA-3, and M.2 PCIe SSD-0. Is this right?

I have Dell Inspiron 7510 with 2TB (replacement for 1TB) HDD in my 2.5" drive bay.
Currently M.2 slot is empty.
I want to add this drive and considering following : "https://www.amazon.com/WD-Blue-1TB-SSD-WDS100T1B0B/dp/B01LYOKOJI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511887622&sr=8-1&keywords=wds100t1b0b"
WD Blue 1TB PC SSD - SATA 6 Gb/s M.2 2280 Solid State Drive - WDS100T1B0B
Since it is M.2 drive, I thought it will work but need to have second opinion.

If it should fit and work as a M.2 drive, I want to make it as my boot drive.

Hi Dhimant,
That should work ok. You can find further information here:

I just purchased a Precision 7510 laptop.  I ordered it with the following primary drive and no secondary drive:

400-AILW 256GB M.2 PCIe High Performance Solid State Drive, MPWS

I'd like to add a second M.2 NVMe drive (perhaps a Samsung 950 Pro) in the 2.5" drive slot.  When ordering the laptop, it was an option to get a high performance M.2 NVMe drive with "Interposer". Does anybody know the part number for this "Interposer"? Are there any other parts that I'll need to make this work?

I am planning on replacing the OEM installed 250GB Samsung PM871 SSD with a 2TB SATA3 HDD on my Precision 7510.
I understand that I must remove the SSD and fit the HDD in its place before I clone it. I have a Startech USB3 to SATA3 cable so that I can connect up the original Samsung drive externally. I also need to create a bootable USB3 flash drive with cloning software on it (USB2 flash drives NOT supported I understand because of the Intel Skylake chipset).
I am unfamiliar with GPT based UEFI systems and I'm wondering what else I should be aware of so that I run into as few problems as possible. Which is the most straightforward software to use for this?
Also I do know that the speed of the computer will suffer but I really need the extra space. I intend going back to solid state drives when they come down in price.
If you need any additional information please ask. And thank you for any assistance you can give.

this is my first post, so first of all hello to all fellow forum users.
After having used only ThinkPads for almost 20 years, I now switched to a Dell Precision 7510 since approx. 2 months. In general this is a wonderful machine, but I'm very unhappy with the pointstick. The ThinkPads' pointsticks always worked very well for me, with high precision that allowed to control even the smallest pointer movements with ease.
The Dell's pontstick in comparison does not work well for me. Sometimes I have to apply a high force to make it move at all. Sometimes when I try to make small or slow movements the pointer gets "stuck", e.g. it stops in the middle of the movement and then it moves on.
Is it possible that I have a bad exemplar, or do others confirm that the Dell pointsticks don't work as well as the ThinkPad pointsticks in general?
Also the form of the pointstick is not optimal for me. With the relatively high force that I have to use sometimes I slip of the stick and push one of the keys around it. Are there different forms of pointsticks available from Dell as accessory?

Looking to upgrade my laptop to a dell precision 7510, and wonder what the maximum number of external monitors with a resolution of 2560x1440 is (Dell U2715h):
1. Without a docking station
2. With Dell advanced E-Port II with usb 3.0 240W
Is it possible to daisy chain two monitors (u2715h) from each of the dockingstations displayport 1.2 and still get full resolution (2560x1440)?
Also, will the choice of screen card impact the number of screens or resolution (amd firepro w5170, Nvidia quadro m1000m or nvidia quadro m2000m)

A:Precision 7510 and multiple monitors

I believe that the systems are limited to 4 displays through firmware. The Nvidia Quadro cards are limited to 2x digital displays in their firmware on the Dell mobile systems while the onboard Intel provides video for VGA and the internal display, and the Nvidia supplies the 2x DVI or Displayport on the dock, and the HDMI port on the laptop itself is tied to one of the two "digital outputs" so you can only do 1 DP + HDMI.
The regular connectors should allow for at least 2x external displays, from the miniDP, HDMI, and Thunderbolt port that should allow for digital via DP as well. I'm not sure how the ports are internally mapped, it could be the HDMI goes to the Intel and the DP and TB3 ports are to the Nvidia, but I don't have a USB-C video adapter to test this with yet.
With the Thunderbolt dock (TB15) you can do up to 2x 4K displays from the dock's Displayport/miniDP/HDMI connections, otherwise you can do up to 3x 2560x1440 displays.

Hi guys, I was looking to get an XPS 15 9550, i7, but I'm now looking at a Precision 7510 for my work (Web developer). I'm presuming as with the XPS, it supports attaching 2 external screens and using them and the internal  panel, giving you 3 screens in total?
I presume you use the mDP and HDMI ports to connect the screens?
Also, I'm thinking of the 1TB SSD and 2TB SATA drive, does anyone know the model of the m2 SSD - is it a Samsung SM961 stick? Anyone seen any benchmarks of that setup anywhere?

I recently got a new Precision 7510.  I want to get some extra AC power adapters.  It came with a 180 watt adapter.
I did a search on the Dell website for power adapters for the 7510 and it lists a 180 watt model and a 240 watt model.  The 180watt is Dell part #450-ABJU.  The 240watt is Dell part #469-4547.
Is there any advantage to getting a 240 watt adapter?  Will the laptop charge faster?
