Photoshop 7 displaying color incorrectly/update not working

Q: Photoshop 7 displaying color incorrectly/update not working

N00b here; please correct me if I do something wrong. =D

My dad and I recently just about completely overhauled my computer; installed the OS from scratch and replaced the motherboard (actually, I think everything got replaced except for a hard drive, but I'm not sure).

But I installed Photoshop 7.0 (from the same CD as I installed it on my other machine) and it's doing weird things. I don't get any error messages or anything, but the color display is wrong. Such as the color picker and every color image (amusing as it would be for Legolas to be green, seeing as he is an elf, that picture is simply not supposed to be that way). Note how Blue hills.jpg is PINK. Yeah. I have NOT messed with any of the color settings - it's all at default, and it's doing this.

Also, when I try to install the 7.0.1 update, it will find the folder that Photoshop 7.0 is in, yet when I click "Next" for it to actually install, it says, "The Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1 Update program cannot find Adobe Photoshop 7.0 in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\ -- Please attempt to locate Adobe Photoshop 7.0 again or cancel the update and install Adobe Photoshop 7.0 from the original disks or CD."

But it IS installed. And in that directory, too. I even uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled it, and it still gives me that error message. The very same update file DID update Photoshop 7.0 on my old computer (unfortunately, I don't know what video card I had in at the time; I was, though, running XP.)

I'm running Windows XP. Computer tells me the video card is "RADEON 9200 Ver. 6.14".

If anyone could help me fix this I'd be ever so grateful. Aigh.

EDIT: Well, what do you know! Official Adobe support actually worked (after ~2 hours of trying to find the right stupid page, but still). I didn't think messing with the Adobe Gamma Wizard would fix it, but it did. Should anyone else experience the same, the first solution on this page is what worked for me. I really don't care about the update now. Hee.

Sorry to take up forum space, I guess.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Three problems at many but not all websites:

2. Text in fields overlap.

3. Fields don't highlight as mouse cursor passes over them.

I am guessing these problems are connected...

This problem just started today on my PC and is driving me crazy. Any assistance is appreciated. Today while surfing the web, many (not all) web sites are displayed with larger text than is normally shown. It is not every site I visit, as many still appear normal. Sometimes it also affects emails that I view using MISE.

I am using IE 6.0 and my OS is XP Home SP1. I have checked the accessibility settings and they are normal. I have cleared out my cache and cookies. I have uninstalled IE and tried reinstalling. Nothing has worked. Remember, this only started today -- prior to today everything was fine.

I have viewed the source of the web pages that appear incorrectly, and they all seem to be using CSS (cascading style sheets). Could a file on my PC that processes these CSS instructions have become corrupted thus causing these font errors? I don't know anything about CSS so I am just throwing darts here.

Thanks in advance to all that attempt to assist me with this problem.

So, bit of an odd problem... when I booted up yesterday and opened up the My Computer folder, I noticed that all of the file information (drive name, volume, etc.) was missing. Whilst doing a computer restart last week after a windows update - my second harddrive has failed and I had to turn the pc off by the front button and remove the failed drive. On the restart - all my desktop, quicklaunch, start menu, multimedia and exe. files had all reverted to the generic windows default icon.

I have managed to get quicklaunch on the taskbar icons back, desktop icons back, and some of my start menu programs back. I still cannot chanfge and sound or video file icons back to say the winamp icon, or WMP icon etc etc.

To try and fix the problem I have done the following: Used system restore, ammended the registry entry for "maxed cached items" to 2000 from 500, I have run several virus checks, defragged, ran pest patrol / adaware / spybot / crap cleaner etc etc. I have uninstalled and reinstalled winamp/quicktim/real/WMP.

I have d/l tweakui - and ran this without success.

I still cannot change from the default windows icon for media files or for my .exe files.

If I install new software - on the start menu the program appears as the windows default icon and will not automatically become the program icon. I have to manually select "properties=>change icon" to get the correct icon to display.

Before I reinstall windows (which I havent done for nearly 2 years) what can I do to fix this problem..??

Hi Everyone,I just installed ImgBurn about 2 days ago and it automatically placed a shortcut in my desktop.Last night, I decided to delete the shortcut so my desktop would look a little cleaner (less icons). But when I checked its shortcut in the Start Menu and its shortcut in All Programs, I noticed that ImgBurn's icons are not displaying correctly (I believe it's displaying the "No File/Program Assocation" icon). However, clicking on them still opens the program.I tried reinstalling the program and deleted the desktop shortcut again, but the results are still the same.I will post screenshots when I get back home if needed. So I made the switch from Vista to 7 without any hardware changes. Now Windows can display 1024x768 normally, but selecting any higher resolution (say, 1154x864) will make the monitor go into 1280x1024 while still saying it's in the selected resolution, and make things look blurry and squished as a result, and it's locked into 60 Hz, which is something you'd expect from an LCD monitor, but I'm using an EV700 CRT (yeah I'm old).

I didn't have any of these problems in Vista. Perhaps I'll have to mournfully switch back?

Hey, all. I've been having this issue for about a week now, and would really appreciate any help/advice. I think it may be a virus, but I'm not sure.I'm using a Mac OS X 10.5.8, and here's what's happening:While browsing sites, some webpages won't load correctly. Sometimes it'll just load a page of html codes, borked layouts, or mixes of both. Also, there are times when it'll load an image strangely, like there'll be random discolored lines or dots in it, or it'll only load half-way, if at all. Ok. First, what are your computer specs?
For example, mine is a

Secondly, I know your husband was trying to help but I hope he tells you next time what he intends doing. My own husband is older (60s) and is a bit leery of this "newfangled computer technology" He prefers leaving the computer work/"geekstuff" to me for our family business.

I recently upgraded to build 7057, and besides running smoothly all around, there is a problem with the way folder icons display. For example, in my music folder, with the view set to 'Large Icons' (or any setting that displays an image on the folder) almost all the folders display multiple images (the exception being when there is a sub directory containing the music within one of the folders. Anyone else experience this or know a work-around?

A:7057 Folder Icons displaying incorrectly

I don't think it's a bug, it's because there are multiple tracks with the same album art and that's why you have the image displayed more than once, if you had different tracks in the same folder from different albums then you would see 2 images displayed on the folder, make sense? Try making a folder and just putting 1 track in it and it should display only 1 image on the folder.

Hello everyone! I'm new to this site so hopefully you all can help me out with this problem. My friend has an IBM Thinkpad Notebook running WinXp and it is having an issue with how is displays text and color. For example, I went to the IBM website to search for some updates to see if that would fix the problem, when the IBM site loaded the text has huge, I'm taking like 60 pt font, it was big. Also, when you load google.com, the links under the search bar are bigger than usual and the text line that blinks is like a big black box instead of a line. The color displays incorrectly also. I went to the windows update page and the links to the updates were a light pinkish color and the font was running of the page. A lot of the windows (like the user account window) do not display colors correctly or the colors are not even displayed. I have tried changing font setting in internet explorer, changing color schemes, changing resolutions, nothing seems to work. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate any input with this matter...thank you!

A:Text and Color Displays Incorrectly

Have you tried changing the DPI (dots per inch) setting;
right click empty area of desktop/properties/settings tab/advanced box, I know this effects how large icons and other items appear.
The Appearance tab has a setting for the Font sizes too as well as in IE.

Another solution is to check display drivers/update

This site suggests disabling "Screen Expansion" in ThinkPad Configuration Utility which can cause distortion in this model.

Hi all,

Don't know if this has asked already but I'll ask anyways.
I have two monitors on my system, and I have adjusted the color on both to be as close to each other as possible.

Now, the other day I was working on both monitors in Photoshop and I noticed that the color for my second monitor was very weird compared to the real image. Even when the image was saved it didn't look like what it was on the second monitor. I soon learned this is the result of color profiles from Adobe Gamma.

The question is, how can I get Adobe Gamma to do tests for my second monitor? Right now it only tests the primary monitor and my second monitor sits there and still displays inaccurate color.

Are there are any other applications other than Adobe Gamma that can correct this or am I forgetting to do something in Photoshop altogether.

A:Multiple monitors in photoshop: Bad color

I don’t think Photoshop will make separate profiles for your monitors and feed each one a different profile. I have matched monitors and it has never been a problem. But with your situation I would move all of the tools to the smaller or less proficient monitor and use the main screen for my main image. I work that way even though my monitors are matched.

I'm not certain whether this question should be asked in the Web Design category of this forum, or in the Photographic category, but as I am encountering this problem while attempting to create a logo for my website, this category seemed the logical choice. Please move if necessary.

I recently purchased and downloaded a tree vector graphic from a well known stock photography site. The tree design is a mostly single shade of green for trunk, branches and root system, with the leaves an assortment of green, yellow, red, and blue shades.

What I would like is to make the entire tree one single dark shade of mauve, and then to pick out a few individual leaves in specific red, blue and yellow shades so as to match the color scheme of my website.

To this end I have been using the color replacement tool in Photoshop to color the tree mauve. The problem is that using this tool I seem unable to achieve just one single shade of mauve over the entire tree, as the original underlying colors apparently affect the new dark mauve replacement color, making it a lighter shade over the green trunk, branches and root system, with the darker shades of mauve only appearing where the underlying leaves are perhaps red, blue, yellow.

After much frustration and then some research I have come to realize that Photoshop is taking my new chosen shade of dark mauve, mixing it with the original underlying color so as to create a totally new shade.

I also discovered that when trying to make a gree... Read more

whats the format of the logo - you are using

I'm designing a website for a bicycle company.

I have a picture of a white bicycle frame. (See attachment) What I would like to do is manipulate it in photoshop to turn it into another color frame, e.g. a blue, red or green frame.

The idea is to design a website where the customer can choose a color, then show the frame in the selected color.

One way to do would be to take a picture of the frame in every color, but this is unpractical. The company offers over 30 different colors, with a possibility to have a different color on the front and on the back of the frame. This means 30 X 30 = 900 different combinations, so it is quite impossible to have a frame painted for each combination.

Dec 15th, I installed a couple updates from Windows Update, about 7-8 of them, each file is under 1MB because I thought it would speed up the download process (I'm not on broadband, using cellphone as modem with only EDGE speed). after those updates are installed, the laptop asked me to reboot, so I did, and there's nothing on the screen, everything's white. I panicked and start searching google like crazy, only to find that I forgot to try out F8 upon rebooting. in the end I managed to remove those destructive updates while viewing the display on an external monitor. after bootup, my kids asked to play for a while and I thought it would be better for them to see the game on a bigger screen (the external monitor, a 32" TV), I accidentally press cancel while windows is trying to install the driver. then it asked me to reboot again. I thought it should be OK, I clicked on cancel numerous times on other driver installation and nothing is affected.

well, this time it's different. upon rebooting, the white screen came back. F8 didn't do a thing, so I turned the laptop on and off many times until I got a garbled display with black background and I used the recovery disc to wipe out the C: drive and replace it with factory given stuff fro... I've had this problem for 2 weeks and can't find anything about how to set up a color profile in vista so that Photoshop will display colors right. Originally I went to Adobe and posted: Adobe Forums: PS Displaying Colors Oddly... but I got no useful help. Basically the colors are washed out and not as vibrant unless I save for web and view them in anything but photoshop (windows picture viewer doesnt display them right either). Here's a link to what the differences are: http://the14thgod.com/misc/adobe_messedup.jpg.

All I find on google are pages and pages talking about color theory and crap but nothing of "this is what you do." Can anyone help me with this, I'm extremely frustrated with this : /

A:Setting up a color profile so Photoshop will display colors right

Just curious why you have your proof set to CMYK when it appears your image is either destined for the web or a dvd menu. Change it to Monitor RGB unless you plan on printing it (if you do plan on printing it, you'll have a flurry of monitor/printer/photoshop color profiles to sync). Finally when you save to web & devices, uncheck the convert to sRGB as any more conversion on the color profile is going to tweak it enough to make you want to put a boot through your monitor. Let me know if it fixes anything, if not it could be over/under gamma correction.

I know there is something I'm missing out there but could someone tell me what to select to make layer2 B&W and layer1 color so I can really bring out the color in my girlfriends rose on her wrist at prom. Also: I know how to take those annoying white dots that the light on our scanner picks up. (I SWEAR THE GLASS IS SPOTLESS!)

I've looked a lot of places and tryed everything in photoshop, but all I can seem to do is make the whole thing b&w and not just the layer.

Thanks for your help.

P.S. Since I know some of you are interested, I'll put there picture on the web for you guys to look at

my cd-rw is spinning...does recognize disc in drive...shows that disc is full, but won't show the files on the cd. Cannot access any information on discs. Check in device manager and weird there too... My "Sony CD-RW CRX160E" actual shows up in DM as " SMNY CD-PW ARX140E. I'm confused. should I disconnect ide cables and try to have windows re-install, or should i try to download driver from site? Scanned for virus using AVG. Using WinMe, 750mhg 128mb, worked 5 days ago. only new software loaded was Olympus voice recorder software. Any suggestions?

Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager > CDROM and delete your CD-ROM from there. Then restart your machine. Windows will re-detect it and install new driver for it. Probably will work fine then.

Hi, I was recently chatting on gchat when my keyboard started acting up. It would insert a period when i hit space, go to the next line when i press l, etc. I thought it was a problem with corrupt drivers so I posted in the windows forum, but then I noticed that the problem spontaneously resolves while I was running Norton. I'm not sure if Nortin is when helped (it only said it removed 13 tracking cookies at that point) or if it was just a temporary mechanical problem with my keyboard, but a few weeks ago I had a problem with my profile being corrupted and considering the coincidence with running a scan I thought it might be a Malware problem rather than a hardware problem. Thanks for your help!

Specs can be found at: Newegg.com - Gateway DX4720-03 Pentium dual-core E5200(2.50GHz) 4GB DDR2 640GB NVIDIA GeForce 7100 Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit - Desktop PCs

It was a Windows Vista 64, but I upgraded it to Windows 7 64 bit. After that, the USB Ports will recognize things in Windows 7, but the wireless adapter that is always on in the USB ports (or any other things in the USB ports as a matter of fact, both front and back) will crash within a random amount of time, which will force me to restart the computer. However, when it reaches the Shutting Down screen, it will stay there forever. I left it on for over a day trying to shut down at a point. Finally, it forces me to hold down the power button to shut it off, which I would imagine is not healthy.

The reason I know it is a USB problem and not router/adapter related is because we have 2 other computers in the house, a laptop and another desktop, and both connections are working fine. Also, I attempted to boot into Ubuntu 9.10 and Linux Mint 8 (Helena I think) to see if my little brother could use the computer without the internet crashing. His mouse and keyboard are both USB powered, and neither of them worked in either of the distributions. Therefore, it has to be the USB ports that are at fault.

Does anyone have any help? I'm so frustrated because this problem has been on the computer for a few months now, and I can't find a Vista install disk with the correct drivers to reinstall Vista, even with the... Read more

A:USB Ports Working Incorrectly, Constant Crash

If it won't work in Linux that says there is some type of hardware problem, not an Operating System or driver issue. In Linux the required drivers are loaded when it's installed (at least the way it worked on my PC loading Ubuntu from a disc and running it from a disc). If the problem was only when Windows was loaded that would be a different issue (and possibily a missing motherboard chipset driver).

Try resetting the BIOS (however it's done on that machine - maybe just removing the BIOS backup battery for about 10 minutes) and see if that resets the USB.
