I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Unable to install Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 8 Release Preview on RTM 8 Enterprise

Standalone installer available here
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28972
fails with error code 0x80004005

Is this because my installation has issues, or would the admin pack files be updated for RTM?

Thank you in advance for any insight

A:Unable to install Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 8 Release Preview on RTM 8 Enterprise

Found the solution here:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itprogeneral/thread/6d8745e0-c4c1-463a-b4bb-09f6c9c22527
Workaround:

Download the RSAT package intended for Windows 8 Release Preview: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28972Extract the .msu file with a tool such as 7-Zip.Open an Admin command prompt and change directory to where you extracted the .msu.Run the following command to install (if x86 you probably have a different .xml filename): pkgmgr /n:Windows6.2-KB2693643-x64.xmlWait a while. You can look in task manager for pkgmgr. When it disappears, the installation is done.Use the tools as per usual.

Hi all,

I am struggling to install 'Remote Server Administration Tools' on my Win 7, 64 bit Enterprise version.
I have managed to install KB958830 and when I try to enable 'RSAT' from 'Control Panel\Turn Windows features on or off' I get a message 'An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed'.
So, I decided to uninstall KB958830 (RSAT) from the windows update but I get the message 'An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled'. It doesn't give me any clue where the problem is! Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Jenish

Have tried many times unsuccessfully to install x86fre_GRMRSAT_MSU.  Installer just hangs and eventually says the following item(s) was not installed:  KB958830.  Have searched for solution and tried the following:-Running "system scan" from the command prompt (no errors reported)-Running System Update readiness which finds 4 errors (all related to this install) - unavailable repair files for 2 .mum and 2 .cat files the install placed in servicing\packages\After this last, thought I would "remove" those files and try the download again using a different installer but I can't figure out how to do this in W7 as it keeps telling me I need system permission to move the files even though I am an administrator on the machine.  There is no way to "uninstall" the package as it is not listed in installed updates since it was never really installed.Event Log error:
Windows update "Update for Windows (KB958830)" could not be installed because of error 2148204800 "No signature was present in the subject." (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Users\ann d lutter\Desktop\x86fre_GRMRSAT_MSU.msu" ")
I am working on a VM session but don't understand why that would be a problem?I would like to be able to work with the "new and improved" group policy options that are not available in the XP utility and also to begin to learn W7.Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

I'm running Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and I've noticed that when I run the DHCP Management tool (DHCPMGMT.MSC) and I add our DHCP Authorised server then close the console, it forgets the DHCP server and I
have to re-select it next time I use the console.
On the other hand, the DNS console remembers that I've used a particular DNS server even after I close the console.
Wondering why the DHCP Management console is so forgetful?

Both of us live near each other and we use dial-up access through an Internet Service Provider to connect to the net. We are assigned different IP addresses every time we connect to the net. In such a case, how will the Back Orifice client program be able to loacte the server without getting the IP address from my friend? Are these programs designed to work only in LANs where the IP address remains constant? Awaiting your reply...

I manage AD and 30+ servers at a community college. I just got a new computer for my office and loaded Windows 7. I also loaded the Remote Server Admin Tools so that I may manage my servers. The old Windows XP Admin Tools had a tool called IP Address Management. This tool combined DNS, DHCP, and WINS management all in the same window and the DHCP would keep the server setups on exit. I can't find this tool in the RS Admin Tools for Windows 7. Does anyone know where I can get a tool like this for Windows 7?

I'm trying to install XP Mode on my Win7 Pro machine (64-bit). I was able to install the XP Mode application, but when I try to install the KB958559-x64 update I get a "Windows Update Standalone Installer" error message that reads: "Installer encountered
an error: 0x80070003. The system cannot find the path specified."
Virtualization is enabled in the BIOS and I've attempted to run the file in a "clean boot". I've also uninstalled XP Mode and tried installing fresh. Always with the same error when I go to install the update (again, XP Mode loads fine). I'm not sure what
path the file is trying to locate. I have successfully installed XP Mode on three other machines, with no issues.
My research to date shows that this error also occurs in Vista machines and has to do with the windows update. No resolutions that I found seem to be relevant here.
Does anyone have insight into why I'm getting this error?
Thanks a million!

Hi,

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit running on one desktop, Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit on a laptop, and Windows XP Professional on another desktop. I have installed PerfectDisk defragmenter and Kaspersky Internet Security on all, and IIS on the XP machine. All the computers are on LAN.

What I want to be able to do is to access the desktops from the laptop and conveniently manage setting for anti-virus, defragmenter and IIS as well as do more administration work like scanning disk for errors, changing virtual memory size, and whatever is possible through control panel. All this I want to do remotely.

Is there any way, either built-in or through third-party software, to do this? In Linux and UNIX-like system, webmin is available. Is something similar available for windows? (I know that webmin is available for Windows also but I have never tried it)

I'm not sure if this problem is more related to hard drives than windows but either way:

I just built a new computer with a 1tb hard drive and a 64gb SSD figuring I could install windows to the SSD for a boot up time. When I installed windows 7 ultimate the computer recognised both hard drives in the Bios but when I tried to install new drivers for my graphics card I found it could only access the SSD. I turned the computer off checking over my boot locations in the bios but when I turned it back on the computer asked me to install boot software despite the SSD still being plugged in.

The computer still recognised both hard drives in the bios and when I eventually just tried reinstalling windows 7 ultimate the computer got to expanding files before it hit error "0x80070003 file does not exist windows can not install file". I checked the SSD priority in Bios and it considers itself the primary hard drive but everytime I turn it on Windows jumps to an error recovery process which fails after several minutes. I removed the SSD and installed windows onto the 1tb hard drive without incident.

Is there a way for me to remove windows 7 from the SSD (or whatever is causing the problem) and the 1tb drive then install windows to the SSD and have it not try to ignore windows and demand boot software or cause installation errors the next time I turn it on?

I paid $200 for this disk and have managed to waste two of my three installs so I would be grateful for any certainty a... Read more

I have Windows 7 RC running on my laptop and I love it. I also just came into possession of an older machine that I'm interested in turning into a small file server running Ubuntu (also because I've always wanted to tinker around with linux). I was wondering though what would be a good solution for remote administration for this setup. That way I can just have the server running and pop into it when I need to to do work. Thanks in advance.

We have a Customer asking for that information because before they take support in charge, all users were administrators of their computers and some of them know how to change services configuration to avoid being remote administrated, so they want to standardize

Is there any document containing a list of necessary services for remote administration?

Hey, everyone! This is my first post here, so excuse me if it's quality is lacking, as I do not know what information to provide.

Windows Update will not update my drivers for my Nvidia GTX 980. So I went around on forums and eventually did sfc /scannow in administrative cmd. This is what it told me.

Okay so after I did that, I proceeded to type in, Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.This is what the result looked like.
So my question is, how do I find 'Source Files' like it's telling me? If that's not the issue, then my next question is, how do I make Windows Update work without giving me the 0x80070003 Error? Cheers!

Hi, I'm wondering if you guys have any experience with programs that allow remote control of another computer on the same network at you.

You see, I'm planning on having a dedicated NT 4.0 box sitting in a corner without a monitor or keyboard attached to it. But I still want to be able to control that computer without hooking up all those things.

I've heard of a program called VNC that allows remote control, but I've never used it or heard anything about it.

So please, can you guys suggest some (free, if possible) programs that allow this and that you would recommend?

I need to remotely administer a very small network (6 clients, one server). They are connected via cat5 with highspeed cable internet atm. I'm trying to decide whether it is worth setting up a VPN for this. I might just use something lame like PCAnywhere to control the server box... any opinions? My worry with VPN is cost. Please give your suggestions. Thanks

How can I use remote administration both for home access (crossover cable) and for internet access.

I have tons of programs for it but I can't get any of them to work. Should I use enabe remote administration on this computer in passwords? Or should I just use one of the programs I have. I just need help then to get them to work.

On computer #2 I cannot run winipcfg (error: cannot read ip config). Could that be my problem? I think it is necessary to use the tcp/ip. (By the way, that computer has no int. access.)

Specs: HP Pavilion with win98se. It has 127mb ram; 533mhz
celeron proc. Networked by a crossover cable to a gateway2000; win98se; 32ram; 133mhz pentium proc.

Does anyone know a good program to monitor and work on other computers which are on a network remotely?
I have heard of the existence of programs that allow you to see the screen of other computers in a network opened in a window on your desktop and work on them as though you were sat in front of them.
Not knowing much about this, I don't know if this is really possible and which program would suit this best. Can you help?

I am attempting to use a remote administration tool to access my home computers. They are connected in the following manner. The host computer is connected directly to the internet via a cable modem. The secondary computer is connected to a 2nd LAN card on the host computer. I've installed and configured Windows XP Internet Connection Sharing on both the host and client computers, and they work properly.

Now my problem is this..when I installed the Remote Admin server file on one of the home computers(the secondary one in this case) the installation appeared to succeed. However, when I attempt to connect to my computer from a remote location the computer is always seen as Offline. Is this due to the fact that ICS uses NAT or something like that to share the internet connection? Does anyone know if the Host computer uses the ICS DHCP also and will have an internal IP like 192.68.0.xxx as well? Is there any way to connect with the Remote Administration software at all on either the ICS Host or Secondary computer across the Windows XP Internet Connection Sharing?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A:Remote Administration Across ICS?

Don't think ICS has port Forwarding builtin. You would need to buy a broadband router and use its port forwarding feature.

Hi, I am trying to figure out how to remotely administer another computer over the interner. My father's computer continually has problems and I have to find time to go to his house and fix it. I was wondering if anyone knows how I could access his computer and fix the problems from my own computer. I am running window 2000 pro and my dad is running windows 98.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to remotely connect to someone computer using FarmTech's Remote Administrator software. We have the server and client setup correctly, disabled ZoneAlarm AND Windows Firewall (yes, the were running both) and I still can't touch their system.

After all, I am left to speculate that their cable modem is somehow blocking me from coming in (maybe through a built-in firewall?) and I need to know 1: if the rmodem is blocking me how do I get to it to perform port forwarding, and 2: if it's not the modem what could be wrong.

Here's the enviroment:

Windows XP SP2
AOL for Broadband over a RoadRunner Cable Connection
A Toshiba PCX 1100U cable modem
Remote Administrator (newest version)

Now, when she hovers over the Remote Administrator Server icon she is shown two IP addresses. One, is an AOL Ip address and the other is a RoadRunner address. Then, I have a third one which I think is the public IP of the modem. I've tried pointing remote administrator to both the AOL and the RoadRunner addresses and got nothing (won't connect) and we tried accessing the modem's public IP through her local browser and it's not coming up with a config page.

Can anyone help me fix this problem so I can actually make a connection to this persons PC and fix the problems she is having on other stuff?

Thanks!
Anthony

A:Question about Remote Administration

I have this cablemodem and it does not have any routing software within it so you don't have to sorry about trying to "port forward" anything on it. As far as blocked ports what she needs to do is confirm the port your trying to connect on is not blocked by Roadrunner (as I know they do block some ports). Once you have a common port that is not blocked the last thing is the IP.

What I suggest doing is after a fresh reboot and without opening AOL and connecting see if she can open up I.E. and go web browsing if this is the case she is already on the internet and can BYPASS AOL altogether.

The only thing that concerns me is -
One, is an AOL Ip address and the other is a RoadRunner address. Then, I have a third one which I think is the public IP of the modemClick to expand...

Why should she be having 3 IP's for the single connection in. Since by your own configuration you gave your stating she does not have a router this means she should have 1 IP not connected to AOl and "possibly" a second IP connected to AOL (I don't know enough about AOl to help you determine if AOL provides their own IPs upon connection.

The roadrunner given IP should be the same IP that her PC has and should be her public IP.

I hope I gave you some things to look at or think about. I have not used your remote connectivity software so I can't give you any insights on that portion.

Ok, I manage like 15 computers, friends, family etc, and want to setup something like remote command prompt access so i can move some an installer for whatever or fix issues remotely without bothering them. I was thinking something like telnet, or SSH but not sure how much access that will give me to the computer, I already have the built in admin account setup for using remote desktop but I truly hate using that. I want to avoid using remote desktop because well it sucks unless you are hard-lined on the same main network. I really don't need to see what they are doing, which is why i want to avoid using teamviewer, i don't wanna have to call them every time i need to login to fix something, and i don't wanna accidentally remote in and see them doing banking or something else like that.

Use the Terminal mode in Remote Utilities. It's free for personal use, btw, and won't annoy you with banners like TeamViewer.

Hey all,

I know there are many similar threads to this one in the past... Not trying to pull off a scab here, but none of the threads I've found on this topic discussed what I needed in a little more detail:

I have kids with their own PC's.. I need a way that allows me to remotely connect (all connections will be over LAN/WiFi with one router) and set/adjust their Parental Controls on their accounts. I don't need pop-up boxes asking my kids permission to log in, or status windows saying I'm logged in, etc. I want the input devices on their machines to be overridden by my inputs, and short of manually turning off the power to the machine, be unable to stop me.

What IT tool/RAT will allow me to do this? Thanks for any help you guys can provide.
