I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have been experiencing a few misc problems with this laptop and I am well aware that it is dying but I would like to know if any of this I can do a quick fix to help holding off till I finally can afford my gaming rig. 1. Restarting and shutting down can cause all audio and brightness control to no longer work. Usually after a a little while videos stop playing as well when audio goes out. Restarts usually a guarantee to do this when not fixing something. I go to device manager and unistall the audio parts and restart to fix that. I manually install a different driver to get my brightness control back whenever it stops working. I used to have this issue with my mic but that turned out to be damage from switching to windows 10 and back which is fixed now. 2. Background returned to windows 10 default as windows 8.1 . This only happened once but my background randomly changed from my game character to windows 10 default. Original picture was even missing from where I placed it. Re-downloaded and hasn't reverted back to windows 10 default background so far. Mostly curious if the picture randomly corrupted. 3. Random things in recycling bin. I randomly noticed StarCraft2 saves in my recycling bin. The problem is I had to google the game to even know what it is. Only thing I came up with is that maybe it's the account I'm using though I may be an idiot when it comes to this. As a handme down laptop I never bothered making a new profile and use it when logging in to... Read more

Hi, we have a Lenovo G700 running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Tried everything including a multitude of things from this and other forums and we cannot get the touchpad disabled.Reinstalled drivers (Synaptic/elan, energy management etc), hotkeys off/on in bios, and more. Even after reinstalling the synaptics driver we are unable to see any of the extra management items in the mouse areathatwould allow us to alter anything with the touchpad. I am even unable to disable the mouse on ps/2 port in device manager. All other function keys work except F6 (or Fn-F6) Does anyone have any suggestions what the issue could be or how I can get the touchpad disabled without physically unplugging the thing from the motherboard? Unit is less than 2 months old and this is really an irritation. Thanks,Wayne

I've had a G700 running Windows 8.1 for a few years now. Recently I've been experiencing a problem where I'll suddenly lose wireless connection and get the troubleshooting message that "the default gateway is not avaible". It's a very frequent problem (according to my troubleshooting log it's happened over 200 times this month) and I'd really, really like to be rid of it. I'm using a Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter. I saw some people with similar issues, and I've already changed the power setting so the computer can't turn off the driver to save power. It didn't help. I saw some suggestions to lower the adapter's "roaming aggeression" under the advanced tab, but I don't have that option (I do have "Roaming tendency" which I set to moderate but again, it didn't seem to help). The only thing I can think to do next might be to reinstall the whole driver, but I wanted to see what the nice folks here suggested. So yeah. Lenovo G700. Broadcom 802.11n. Windows 8.1. Randomly losing wireless connection because the default network gateway is unavalible. Any suggestions?

I was having issues with my Lenovo G700 laptop (it kept crashing every time I tried to shut it down). It was failing the Targeted Read Test and the SMART Short Self Test so I took it to a technician to get the internal hard drive changed since it was failing. I got my laptop back but now I am getting a warning for the SMART Short Self Test and a non-applicable label for the SMART Drive Self Test everytime (code is W1XDZDWLU-8VHH7E). Googling the code did not bring up any results. The tests over all are labelled as "passed" but the laptop is slow and keeps stalling. A:Lenovo G700 BlueTooth issue

Have you physically looked at the hardware (Wireless Card) and ran the units serial / model / part numbers thru Google to see if it does in fact have bluetooth?  I ask this as the listing you link to states the bluetooth module is "optional" rather than included as fact.

I would also recommend that you download your service / maintenance manual from the Lenovo Support tab of this website and look at the listing of parts for WiFi and bluetooth, which you can use as a "reference" tool to see exactly what part is in your notebook.

Once you have this information, post back and we will see what we can do to assist you with further troubleshooting.

My Lenovo G700, which is a week old, is saying that it is "plugged in, not charging". It was working fine until last night when I closed the lid to put it into sleep mode for the first time. I have checked that it is set to maximum battery life and it is still not working. It's stuck on 98%. I am severely disappointed that something like this has happened a week into having my first Lenovo. I hope someone can help me rectify this problem.

A:Lenovo G700 Plugged In Not Charging

hi Zadeth,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try to:
1. Turn off the machine and remove the AC adapter and battery
2. Hold the power button for 10secs then plug the AC adapter back in.
3. Turn the computer ON and when it gets to Windows, slide the battery back in place and observe the charge.

Alternatively, try to use the battery charge until it asks you to plug the AC adapter and observe if the charge goes all the way to 100%.

Let me know your findings

A:Missing applications after XP clean install/reinstall - Help!!

What you have done, is not a "I've reinstalled Windows clean", but a simple overwriting of existing system. Otherwise there would be no files left.

Run system update, reinstall all of the necessary applications. Other than that, if you could boot on to the old system, you could perform a registry backup, and copy it over the new one (strongly not recommended). That + Program Files folder copying would still solve the problem only partially, since there are many files missing from the system that are required in order for those programs to work.

What I would suggest, is that you read some how-to`s, on how to properly backup the necessary data beforehand and reinstall the system: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/499568-guide-reinstall-windows.html

Hi!I have problem with lenovo g700. A few months ago my display has broken, it turned out when i push harder in keyboard section where are keys like I, O, P, J, K, L my display lights up. So I thought that it must have been tape from display backlight. When i unscreawed keyboard screws and unattached a keyboard then everything seemd to be working. But unfortunately it didn't. Laptop does not turn on. When I click power button it seems like it has power because power diode is on, but can't turn on. I checked all tapes and and power button is working because when I hold it for a few seconds the power diode turns off. Also, when i plug power supply it turns power diode. I tried also every magic trick with unhooking ram and turning without power supply and battery. Maybe I damaged something while repairing but it seems like on motherboard there is no scrathes at all, thin layer of dust ( I think i could see scratches from screwdriver ). What should I do? Thank you in advance.

Hi guys, I'm dealing with a problem which is currently (but I sincerely hope, not permanently) rendering my G700 useless. When I attempt to boot my PC it freezes at the Lenovo splash screen. I've waited ample amount of time but nothing appears to happen. One time I waited and managed to get into a Windows troubleshooting menu where I attempted to wipe the PC and start fresh, but this also froze at the lenovo screen soon after. Pressing the Novo button gives me 4 options but it appears to freeze, not allowing me to scroll through the options, or press enter. If I remove the harddrive it tells me to insert media and press OK, but once again, it appears to freeze as pressing enter doesn't do anything. I've tried booting from a USB stick but can't seem to get into any setting which would allow me to do this.I Removed DVD drive as I read on this forum that it was an issue with different Lenovo laptops, and since I don't use it anyway, decided to give it a go, but unfortunately nothing changed :-( If any kind soul could advise me with what I could possibly do, it be would be greatly appreciated as I'm dreading the thought of having to purchase a new laptop. Thanks :-)

The charger supplied with my Lenovo G700 recently stopped working completely (it was making a weird bleeping sound when plugged in as well), so I purchased another genuine Lenovo charger identical to the first. However, my laptop doesn't recognise that this is an authentic Lenovo product and keeps telling me that I'm using an 'unauthorised battery', so my laptop can only be plugged in, and not charging. So far I've been unable to find a suitable fix on google. I'm reluctant to buy another charger as they are so expensive, in case I encounter the same problem again.  Any suggesions/experiences would be very helpful! Thank you

Hi Folks,

I'd like to share my system issues with you however before that I need to apologize for three specific things:Sorry if the post title doesn't correspond to the norms
Sorry if the post already exists elsewhere / in a different forum / with a different title; I couldn't find a specific solution to address my issue
Sorry if the post is too long and way in descriptive

My machine has been working fine for almost two years now, no hardware issues, clean from viruses and malware (or so I'd like to think) until recently it got terribly slow all of the sudden, would take almost about 35-40 minutes to boot as opposed to 40 seconds on an average. My first bet was a system restore can fix this in minutes so I booted in safe mode with command prompt. I realized a specific file (relative to AVG) took an unusual 20+ minutes to load. Since I had recently upgraded to the 2012 version, I thought of rolling it back. Also, while I was at it, I also found that there were no restore points for me to roll back to. Now that is pretty odd since I create a restore point every fortnight manually. Anyways, I thought reinstalling AVG would fix my issue. AVG uninstalled but the problem persisted.

Following which, I thought lets run the dell diagnostics to resolve the issue. Thats where I found the second issue. The system beeped up during the HDD test reporting error 2000-0142; looked up the error description and resolution and CHKDSK saved the day for that one.

Issue: After wiping the drives and installing a fresh OEM copy of Windows 8.1 via a DVD i purchased, I can no longer see my SSD in my partition manager. The SSD was working prior to the clean installation.

Clean Install Steps:
I had to change the drive mode from UEFI to Legacy in the bios and allow it to boot in legacy mode as default. This was done to allow booting from the DVD. Also I had to turn fast boot off.
How do I obtain access to the SSD partition again?

Hi. I was just given a Lenovo 3000 n100 (prod. i.d.# - 97684JU) laptop that had crashed. If I can fix it, it's mine. Yay!

Problem: Keyboard does not work. It has a fresh install of XP with Service pack 2 - which I believe was taken off a disk labelled XP Pro Svc pk 2, w/sata drivers for gateway - key preloaded - which was in dvd drive.

In device manager under other devices there is a list of devices marked as uninstalled drivers -
3 base system devices,
fingerprint sensor,
foxconn bluetooth 2.0 plus EDR,
Network Controller
PCI Device
SM Bus Controller
Video Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

The registered to in properties of My Computer has all the symbols for two lines. I have figured by trial and error that the keyboard is not working. USB keyboard and mouse do work.

I have a XP Pro cd, version 2002, unopened that I can use to reinstall the operating system - however this one I believe is for a compaq/hp pc.

My question: should I download all Lenovo drivers to a flash drive, and do I need anything special during install?

will computer recognize usb keyboard and mouse if i am formatting and reinstalling opsys?

I am thinking that maybe with the disk they used that may be the reason why the keyboard does not work.

Or can I just install the drivers needed from the lenovo site, and then fix the "registered to" and "users" in the registry?

what would be my best bet here?

thanks for the help here.

EVERYTHING ELSE, including task manager and files crashes after a few seconds or wont open at all. I can't even get McAfee to run to see if it can shut anything down.

Memory is at about 36% and same with usage.

Is this a virus? or something wrong with the computer itself?

Hi everybody!

I'm a moderately knowledgeable computer user, but I've recently had something happen that's confused me completely.

I started noticing it about 2 weeks ago. At first, I just noticed by 7zip application was... missing. I went to open a .7z file and got an error that there was nothing to open this file with. It was bizarre, but I shrugged it off as a mistaken uninstall. Hey, accidents happen, right? Reinstalled 7zip and went about my day.

Then about a week ago, I noticed one of my desktop tweak programs was missing. Again, I figured I must have uninstalled it. It wasn't a program I was completely attached to - and one that basically tweaked something and wasn't needed again (unless you wished to tweak that something again), so it was entirely plausible that I could've uninstalled it and forgotten I'd done so.

Now today, I went to burn some files onto a CD... and my burning application was gone. Alright, now this one I KNEW I wouldn't have uninstalled and it was a bit too coincidental that THREE apps would all be mysteriously missing.

So I went through and checked ALL of my installed apps. Total damage? 16 missing applications in all. Some had left the usual remnants a program leaves when it's uninstalled, some were gone without a trace. There are also a handful of other programs that are still installed, but seem to have lost configuration settings - they seem to think I'm a new user all of a sudden.

I managed to figure out where about 6 of them... Read more

Hello, after downloading a bunch of software recommended by this site's staff to help keep my computer safe... but my fellow residents of the house I stay in all use this computer and will a lot of times delete files and applications that belong to me or that I've downloaded (because they believe the computer will go faster -_-)... so the actual question is:How do i check what processes/files were deleted or modified in my computer in a set time period in the past (such as 1 day ago)?(sorry if I posted in the wrong section, I scrolled down the list of topics on the forum main page and this seemed the most applicable to my problem) >.>

For modified files, you can just use windows search feature. . . one of the advanced options is to target files modified in the past X amount of time. For deleted files. . . if the recycle bin has been emptied you'd probably need to use a file recovery utility, and hope the memory location of the deleted file hasn't been written to already. There are some free file recovery utilities out thereHere's one http://www.recuva.com/

I've been looking all over different web forums for a solution to my problem, but to no avail. This leaves me confused since it is not telling me any specific .dll that is missing. I've tried resetting my pc and this is also not working for me. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance

Hello!I recently noticed that the Lenovo battery gauge icon is missing from my taskbar, I can't activate it, there's no way, I right-click the taskbar - > Toolbars -> Lenovo baterry Gauge, and it doesnt work. I also open Lenovo Settings and click "about and setting" and then try to set on "activate lenvovo battery gauge" , and nothing happens either, actually, the icon turns "on" but when I click elsewhere it goes back to "off". What can I do? What's happening?

OK Windows 7 Ultimate reinstall, have done this numerous times, but this time, a new wrinkle:

Happened with these 3:
WinPatrol
OpenOffice
and a disk imaging tool:

Once install completed, the desktop icon gives access denied, I am on the only acct that I created and it's obviously an admin acct.

I know how to fix it, but why has basically NO PERMISSIONS been setup? [installed these apps before]

I look at the drive in explorer, and three directories are showing LOCKS with the folder symbol.

Is there some services to adjust or disable that is doing this to me?
It's a totally new issue, I have not encountered before, and I have wipe and dropped 7 at least 7 times and set it up from scratch each time same as now.

Only thing of note, maybe, apps being installed to reformatted old SSD.
Using NTFS on all partitions.
Ran chkdsk /f and drive has no issues.

A:Fresh 7 install, go to install applications, 3 out of many, fouled.

No ideas?

Stumped as well still, misbehaving installers, perhaps?

I have UAC, Windows Firewall, and Defender all disabled and did during the installs that fouled up, these are things I don't use.

Hello,

I Installed my windows 7 on C. Now I have 100GB Free on D. So I was thinking if it's good idea to install programs on D? and keep C for windows only?

Like Install firefox, paint.net antivirus all in D..Is that a good idea? or will my laptop be slow?

This is my laptop: Toshiba P205-S8810 review - Satellite Laptops

Thanks

A:Clean Install 2 partitions - Where to install applications?

No, its not a good idea because most programs like to be on the same partition as Windows is on.

The attached is a screen shot of PowerPoint. My problem is with the "Slide Layout" sidebar menu on the right side of the screen: none of the options for slide layout or design, or templates or anything at all show up? I have also had the same problem with other supplementary menus for other office applications not showing up properly. For instance, in excel, when i go to the Insert menu, and select Object, the menu that comes up is completely blank.
The problem is that all of the option are actually in the menu and can be clicked on, however it is a process of trial and error to pick the right option.
Do you know what is going on? Do you know why the menu options are not showing up. I downloaded Sp3 for office 2002, is there something else I need to download to fix this?

Hi,

Yesterday I'd spent a couple hours going through my family's PC and clearing up a few documents, as well as (foolishly) playing around with some settings.
Problem is, now I've lost a few minor applications from my Start Menu > All Programs list.

The ones I've noticed so far have been: Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Notepad, Paint, Volume Control and various basic games (solitaire, pinball etc.) I've managed to fix the first 3, but the other problems remain. I know that Paint, Volume Control and those games are still on the computer, as I have found them when I've done a search. Problem is I'm not sure how to put them back in the all programs listing.

I really need a simple and quick way of solving this. As I've said, this is the family PC.

A:Applications missing from all programs menu.

Hello,

Please navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and place shortcuts of the applications that you would like to be displayed. You can organize other folders this way too.

Hi I am running XP pro(sp2) and have a problem with some of my installed programs, Kodak easyshare , AVG free and my Epson printer preference page.
The right hand side is missing so I can not use the applications that are hidden.
I vaguely remember reading a post some time ago from someone having the same prob but have trawled for ages and can't find it. I think the fix was in computer management but I am not sure. Hope someone can help, thanks very much,....sam stuart

Hi all, I have just corrected this problem, it seems a font used by Epson in all of its drivers was corrupt, replaced it with one sent by Epson and all is ok.
AVG and Kodak were simply re install probs and after the Epson Fix they were ok too,.....sam stuart

Last night I muted firefox in the vista volume mixer so I could surf quietly while my roommates were watching a movie. This morning I went to unmute it and it was missing. I tried restarting everything hoping that it would show back up.... nothing. I've spent 2 hours so far looking for a solution but it seems that no one else has had this problem. Other programs show up in the volume mixer... though I'm afraid to mute them for they may never come back!

Any ideas?

Update: Apparently Avast! Anti-Virus is missing too.

I bought the lenovo active pen...For some of the apps i use i need right click and middle click functionality in the barrel buttons. I see the app in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m083aYUWBng at about 11:45 has the click functionality able to be mapped to barrel buttons. However in either the lenovo pen (microsoft store app) or the wacom pen app (basically the same) the click assignment functionality is gone. I can set macros, open apps etc etc, but what i really need is the click functionality (middle and right) Is there a way to get the previous driver version that may have this functionality (as the video is from 2017)  Not sure why this is disabled....it is absolutley neccessary in tablet mode.....which is the entire reason for my purchase of the notebook Thanks

Hi, I've upgraded from vista to win 7 very belatedly.  The Dell applications now seem to be mostly missing.
My webcam works, as I've tried it in Skype, but I can't access it, it seems to be that Webacm Central isn't installed, but after several hours trrawling the internet and these forums I'm still non the wiser as to how to install it.  I'm on a Dell Inspiron 1545.

A:Webcam Central missing from applications list

As long as you can open it using Skype, you're ok but if you want to install it-- See this: www.dell.com/.../dell-webcam-and-dell-webcam-central-software-guide
