Acer VN7-792G - Secondary Hardrive Issue

Q: Acer VN7-792G - Secondary Hardrive Issue

Hi guys, I seem to be having issues with my secondary hardrive (to the best of my knowledge). If I am watching a video/movie saved on it, occasionally the video wll hang for a few seconds. If I am downloading something to it, or copying a file to it, sometimes all progress will stop/downlod will stall. Then if I try and go to a folder saved on it, windows locks up and it can't load the folder or access the HDD. Today, I was watching a movie and downloading something at the same time. The download stalled, and the movie completely locked up. When I tried to fix it, WIndows crashed and I was foreced to restart. I have changed my power settings to never put the HDD to sleep (although it occurred to me that maybe this is just controlling the HDD windows is installed on (which is the SSD)). However if I am actively downloading and watching a movie, surely it wouldn't put it to sleep. What else can I do here? Any ideas what the problem is? Is it a faulty HDD?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everybody! Approximately a month ago I bought this laptop. A few days of work I had found that my eyes are tired extremely fast and when I use another notebook or external monitor they just relaxing. I tried all possible settings but it is hard to work with screen not only in Windows, but in Linux too. Even if you just go to BIOS, your eyes just crucifying. I found different LCD tests and has cheched this notebook LCD. I had found that phasing test fails, after that I just went to service center and they had replaced screen. All tests passed well. But I felt not comfort while working on it. My eyes strained less but this not comfort effect had left. And I asked my friends, they said that they do not feel comfort with this screen. My oculist says that I have a healthy eyes and all problems is with that notebook. So it passes all online screen tests but harms my eyes. Service center cannot take this to repair, they say that there are no problem with the screen. I do not know what to do... Some people says that it is display controller problem and to fix it just need to flash new rom. But I have the latest BIOS 1.0.9...Any suggestions? Now I must work via HDMI to save my eyes...

Hello. I have a lot of issues with my Acer VN7-792G for a long time.First time I received the laptop, I had several issues with the Nvidia drivers while playing games, the GPU would overheat and freeze the laptop completely, along with a very unpleasant noise. It does that even on Very Low settings. I could finally find the answer to my issue when someone on Nvidia's forum told me to never update Nvidia drivers on laptops. (I was always updating to the latest driver through GeForce Experience)I followed his advice and got back to the driver provided by the manufacturer's website (which is 359.xx), since then no issue occured, I could play games on High/Ultra 120fps without freezing/crashing. I reinstalled Windows recently through the ISO provided by Microsoft's website. I disabled Windows Update to update the drivers, and I installed all the drivers provided by Acer's website for my computer, using my serial number. But after few minutes of playing, I still experience freeze/crash, and by that I mean the laptop completely freezes and the only thing I can do is to force shut down, holding power button for few seconds. The laptop is very hot at this point. Highest temp I could record for the GPU was around 70-80°c before it freeze/crash.So I'm starting to think that the problem isn't from the Nvidia driver anymore, since the moment I reinstalled Windows 10 (64bits). Also, apart from the GPU really overheating, now the HDD seems to heat a lot too. Hi and wellcome, First update BIOS, if you don't have the latest updates. It is highly recommended since as you can see some update the VBIOS, which has a link with the video. Also it updates the management engine which monitors various parameters (eg temperature) on the notebook. Second be sure you have installed the intel management engine drivers from the acer drivers download page. XTU will not break the warranty, but be careful because it can cause system instability if you undevolt too much. Since you have a 792G, which is bigger than any 59XG notebooks I don't think you should have any issues with thermal throttling. So I would not set the CPU to 99%. It would limit the system performance.

My new VN7-792G arrived a few days ago and is a very nice machine indeed. The only odd thing is that the Fan seems to be quite loud when is starts going. I had an XPS machine before this so I am used to noisy fans, but this is quite high pitched and sounds almost as if it's imbalanced and reminds me of fans in old machines that begin to whine towards the end of their life. Oddly, the noise decreases if I lift one (or both) corners beside the hinges even slightly. I've also tried it on different surfaces in case it was a vibration issue between the laptop and the table it was on, but no success. Has anyone experienced anything similar, or is this normal?

A:Acer VN7 792G Fan noise

I think I had a very similar issue on VN7 792G, a noise like whistling. I was about to return the product but I think I fixed it. You probably won't like the solution. One of the below solved my fan noise issue (I don't know which) 1- Opened the case and investigate anything that might vibrate due to fan. First I saw that Acer forgot one of the screw of the mainboard so I placed a new one and screwed motherboard firmly no prevent any vibration. Also close to larger fan plastic casing of the (vibrating) fan was touching to the (stationary) case.  I put a soft electric band in between. 2- I put a little machine oil to both fans. This part is tricky, you need to know where to put (check online), also you will need an oil with small sized needle heads. It possible to access fans after removing keyboard. I suggest not turn upside down for sometime if you decide to put oil. best,

Hello, I did find a few threads about this but for other models, so I take my chance. I would like to buy a new ~240go SSD M 2 to upgrade my laptop. Can anyone confirm that there is actually a M 2 port inside ? I believe yes since I watched a few videos, but the laptop seller's website does not talk about it, so i'm confused. Is there any better SSD than another for compatibilty with the 792G ? I would like to use it as my main drive with Windows on UEFI in it, and the HDD I had will be used for storage. Same goes for RAM, what is the maximum RAM supported by this laptop ?

A lot of people use HWinfo to help them determine what brand of HDD they have installed. https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php If you're asking the question as a pre-purchase question......here's the entire list of primary and secondary drives that Acer might use in that model.  Maybe someone else can tell you which one is installed on the specific serial number you're inquiring about.

Hi, It's perfectly normal. It's a notebook with small heatsink and not a PC with a huge fan and heatsink. The temperatures are normal, and it can go even higher which can cause your CPU and GPU to throttle. In case of the 792G since it is a 17 inch one, you probably will not have problems with throttling because it can have bigger airflow than a smaller 15 inch one. And regarding the battery. Is not removable, or you can remove it just if you take apart the notebook. But generaly is not a removable battery.

If you format and partition it, yes. Unless the specifications of the machines are identical, it's not just a simple case of removing and adding a drive.

Hello everyone, just alittle hard drive question for everyone. I recently switched from a PATA Hard drive set up to a SATA hard drive set up. Now its a Maxtor hard drive that came with its own instillation software. BUT, when I run the software, there is a section that ask you to select which drive you wish to format. Now my hard drive shows up on that list, up I cannot select it. Does this have something to do with my Hard drive showing up as secondary master and not primary ? .. is there anyway to make it the primary, because it seems like no SATA hard drive can be allowed to be the primary master.

Okay guys... this ones got me stumped.

I have a 40GB hardrive that i had set up as a slave to my 60 GB hardrive. All of a sudden, i cant access the slave anymore! Now i know the data is still there, because oftwo reasons :

1) When i open my computer... it shows ALL of the drive, the primary AND the slaves and it shows the names of the drives... whenever i try to access ANY of the drives though my computer (including the drives on the primary HD) my computer hangs on me and i have to reboot (the entire pc is running slow as well).. when i disconnect the slave all of the problems disappear... speed comes back to normal and there are no system problems.

2).. when i access the hardrive through the command prompt... i can see all of the information on all of the drives... EXCEPT for ONE logical partition WITHIN the slave... now im a photographer.. and that ONE logical partition holds my ENTIRE portfolio on it.... so i NEED that partition.

I dont really care if the hardrive is trashed.. though if i could fix it that would be of great help.. what im MOST interested in is accessing the data and copying it off. and as God would have it ESPECIALLY the information on the ONE partition that not even the COMMAND line will let me see. Incedentally... when i go into computer management it doesnt show this one drive either... but my computer shows it... This isnt a problem with any of my other system components because iv run it off a friends computer as well and its causing the same pro... Read more

A:Secondary hardrive wont access!!!

Wow...this just happened to me. The situation very quickly deteriorated and I was unable to save anything. The drive was fine though after I reformatted it. Try the Hard Drive Mechanic demo download. I tried it and it wasn't of any help but I think I was too far gone by that point. It's worth a try anyway. Download the demo and when you run the file it will copy the necessary files to a floppy, then boot with the floppy. You access the commands by using the highlighted letters on your keyboard. Good luck and let us know what happens.

New member here, In the process of completing and setting up a new build. As recommended installed windows 7 prof on Samsung 830 256gb SSD with no problems. During installation was only hard drive hooked up.

Now I am trying to install a Seagate 320gb sata drive to use as a storage drive. The new drive shows up in the motherboard bios but I cannot figure out how to get to get the drive accessable in Windows.

This is a new drive that has never been used nor has it ever been formated. I am lost as to what I need to do to get the drive to a point that I can access and format it so I can impliment it into the system.

Windows installed smoothly on the SSD and all is working fine with the exception of my internet which after a call to my service provider it was determined that my router was to old to properly work with the new system and a new router is enroute at this point.

Can someone walk me through the correct procedure to get this drive online? Thanks in advance

In DIsk Management you'll see it on the drive map and may need to initialize it. Rightclick on the panel at left to see if Initialize Disk is available - if so select it.

If it's already listed in Disk Mgmt, you may need to only add a drive letter: Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

One of my hard drives simply disappears from my computer when I am in the middle of using it. It tends to happen right after start up within around 2 minutes of booting up but there are times when it does not. When it does disconnect I completely lose track of the hard drive in the system. I check the system disk management and it does not even show up there. I was even in the disk management window and saw it disappear on me. I checked the power options to make sure that that was not turning it off. I used different cables to see if that was it and no. For a while the only solution that I found was rolling back the Intel(R) management Interface Engine driver to version 9.5.24.1790. This worked for a time until windows 10 updated and the problem started again regardless of the MIE version. This is also something that only started to happen when I upgraded to windows 10 and did not happen when I was in windows 7 or 8. I would also like to note as the title says that when the hard drive shuts down (or at least I think that is what is happening) the computer does not turn off properly. The OS quits and everything else shuts down but the computer itself stays with blinking lights and sounds. I also turned off fast start of option the power options. Nothing else seems to be affected by the dissapearing hard drive but the system not shutting down properly.

Assuming the drive a functioning drive, if its not visible under Disk Management, then your motherboard bios settings are incorrect, or internal connectors.

I recently bought a new Acer H233H LDC screen to use as an external monitor for my Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop. When I plug it in (via VGA cable) I can't get my desktop to display correctly on the new screen. Instead, what shows up is the lower left corner of my desktop, in the upper right corner of the screen (see attachment for illustration). I've already played around with the V-horizontal and H-horizontal options on the screen, but even when stretched to the max, these only manage to make this little "desktop rectangle" marginally bigger.

I called Acer and we played around with all the settings on the monitor itself, so I don't think the solution lies there.

Has anybody ever had this happen to them? I'd appreciate any insights you guys might have.

Hi, I've been having hardrive issues for a very long time, six years to be exact.

I have two drives, a C and a D. the C has 15gb of space while the D has 110 or somewhere near that. The problem is, when I download something, anything, it goes to the C instead of the D. Don't know why, all temp flies go there. Over time I moved things to the D, but many problems arose. I kept getting low disc space errors which you'd figure when the drive only has 15gb of space. Anyway I had enough, today I completely reinstalled windows and everything is running smoothly once more, but now I want to do things right, I want things to go to the D instead of the C. I haven't even copied my itunes in fear that the music will totally kill off the C drive.

In short, I want things to go the C drive instead of the D.

Please help, thank you.

Hello, I have a laptop that had Windows Vista installed. I noticed it was becoming really slow at proccessing and I had tried everything, so I installed Windows 7. After the installation, the computer restarted and I was able to work with windows for about an hour... but then I went to restart it again because I installed Microsoft Office, but as the computer booted up it took me to Windows System Repair utility, It scanned for problems and and then it said attempting repairs for over 12 HOURS!! After that, I gave up, I wiped my hardrive using ERD 2005, and Re-installed Windows Vista... After Vista booted up, same thing happened!! I restarted it and it took me too System Repair... I waited a full day this time and then i wiped it again... I'm currently doing a 4Pass Disk Wipe just to get rid of any problems I had. I don't believe it's a hardrive failure because It wipes and installes windows fine. I'm using and Intel BIOS, and all the settings are factory preset. Do I need to change anything there? And Should I just go back to good ole' XP? or Is there settings I can change in Windows 7? I really don't like vista....

A:Failed Hardrive? Or Vista/7 Issue?

Hi Pizzadudebsy,

Is it possible for you to remove the Hard disk and connect back? if yes, kindly do it. If no, just leave it.

Do you have any other partition in the Hard Disk? If yes, than delete the partition by taking the backup of all the data into any other external Hard Disk or any other storage device.

Is encrypted enabled in the bootable Hard Disk? If yes try to disable it.

Check the BIOS setting for the boot menu options and change the 1st boot order to Hard Disk and second boot option Optical drive.

Now, try to install the windows 7 in the system. After restarting if it goes to the startup repair options than select command prompt and follow the below steps.

1.Choose "Command Prompt" in order to run the desired utility which is called "bootsect.exe".

2.Bootsect is located inside the boot folder so change your directory to boot. (for eg. X: drive to C: drive by the command c: hit enter where X: drive is Optical device drive)

3.Now run "bootsect /nt60 C:\" if you had Win 7 initially installed in the C partition.

4.Alternatively, you can run "bootsect /nt60 SYS" or "bootsect /nt60 ALL" to repair the system partition or all partitions.

5.Eject the DVD, and restart computer.

6.Your computer should now boot Win 7 again.

Let us know this works.

I have a brand new 500GB external hardrive from GDRIVE (Slim) and it is FAT32 format, i brought this drive because i wish to watch movies and TV series on my PS3 and i know that external harddrives need to be FAT32 format in order to show up and work.

However after hours of copying these movie files over from their old external hard drive home which was NTFS format i plugged this new one into the PS3 and nothing showed up, no sign of the new harddrive nothing!!!

As a note I have a smaller hardrive which is about ready for the grave which is also FAT32 format and all settings are identical to this new hardrive and that shows up on the PS3 but is only 120GB..

Im confused!!?

All
Working with a HP Vectra vli8...600mhz, 256 mem. W2K
The issue is with a secondary drive...I have rebuilt this computer 4 or 5 times and never run into this problem

1)I have always had two HD drives in the computer, Cable selected, NTFS
2)Bought a New Drive to be the C drive.
3)Installed it, partitioned C 15GB D 25GB W2K..Loaded all MS Updates(I think)
4)Installed Second HD to be my E drive, NO operating system, Has all old data on it...simply used for storage
5) In w2k, when I try to explore the E drive it tells me this drive is not formatted..do u want to format,,,,No...I have data on it
6)I am thinking..... my old setup was one physical HD drive was c and the other physical HD was D and since now I have c drive partition in two drive C and D and then adding the second hard drive as E...is causing the OS to want to format it???

AM I correct???

A:Secondary Drive issue

Woa there! Your going to give yourself an anurism thinking about it that way!!

The data on the drive has apsolutely no bearing on the drive letter. Windows Assigns a drive letter based on how the drive is connected. For example, the drive on IDE1;Master would be assigned C. A drive on IDE2;Slave would be assigned Drive D. If a drive has more then one partition then the partition after the primary would be assigned a letter before the next physical drive
Double check the drive connected to IDE1:Slave and make sure everthing is set correctly. Such as the jumper in the back of the drive should be set to slave. Make sure you IDE1:Master Jumper is correct while your at it (should be set to Master). After that is done restart your computer and check the bios to make sure it sees both hard drives

I understand your confusion. juggleing drives can be hard on your head if you don't know the dynamics of how the computer works. I currently have three hard drives with a total of 6 partitions right now. Thats alot of data to keep trak of.

I just recently purchased an HIS X1650Pro and I've been desperately trying to get my TV to work as a secondary display but to no avail. I'm using S-Video for the connection and when I boot up my computer, my primary (monitor) display is black but the TV shows the boot-up sequence. Once Windows (XP SP2) loads, the TV goes black and the monitor takes over at my desktop.

I've tried extending the desktop onto the TV in Display Properties but all that happens is the TV flickers for a second. Oddly enough, when I make my TV the primary, my monitor will remain black.

I've used this TV before with my old Radeon 9800 as a secondary display and it worked without a hitch but I can't for the life of me make the X1650 work.

I'm running:

Asus A8N SLI Premium
Windows XP SP2
2gb Ram
HIS X1650Pro

Any help at all would be infinitely appreciated as ATI's tech support is *severely* lacking and so is HIS. Thanks for reading.

have you used the 9800 pro with dual displays on this current motherboard? some motherboards do not handle dual displays very well, if at all, like my old msi k8n-gm2 motherboard.

Hi,

I have a nagging issue that is an irritation rather than a fault I guess.
A while ago i had a HP photosmart B110 rev.A wireless printer that had a reknowned software issue where windows would not see it and you had to reinstall the software again ...and again and again...
In the end I uninstalled the printer and bought a new one but my hardrive still reports the driver is missing (about 5 reports in fact).
I don't need the driver ,and I dont want the driver how can I get rid of this messege and the small warning triangle?
I can find the drivers on the HP website but it tends to add software I dont want hogging my system.
If I remember correctly i am not certain this resolves the issue either,as the driver instaltion fails.

I also have a Roccat Kave headset that has a usb connection that powers the lights on the headset (nothing more).Windows insists on looking for this driver too but none exist (it doesnt need one).
Again this gives a troubleshoot warning which i want to get rid of if possible?

I am running Windows 7 x 64 Ultimate edition.

A:Missing drivers /Troubleshoot hardrive issue

Use uninstall to remove anything HP photosmart related, including current printer. Manually delete any folder/files relating to HP. Remove anything HP related in startup. Run CCleaner, this should clean the registry of all HP printer info. Then reinstall current printer drivers. This procedure has worked for me several times in the past.

Hello, I am currently havign issue's with my laptop. It is a Sony Vaio VGN-AR605E, and I just recently replaced its hard drive with a new one. The old HD was a 160 GB toshiba SATAII , my new one is a 250 GB SATAII 5,600 rpm faster then my older's rpm.I was able to install windows 7 on the new hard drive when it was the only HD in my laptop. It works fine now and I tried to add my old broken one into the secondary slot and when i boot up it returns my old issues. What happened to cause me to need a new HD was i dropped my laptop while it was on.Upon doing a reboot it froze at the windows loading screen.Chkdsk reported bad sectors so i rep0laced the drive. Now when i place that drive back ino the system on the secondary my primary drive gets overided and it freezes at the windows screen again.I'd hate to put my old HD to waste, I don't mind having an unstable secondary as long as I don't have to trash it. MY quesiton is, Why does it keep trying too boot into my secondary instead of primary? Do I have to do some jumper settings in my laptop somewhere? I doubt that since the HD didnt have any. Thabnk you for any helpful information and if theres no fix, is there anyway to put use to my old HD?

I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. I installed a secondary drive (Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX) today. The secondary drive shows up on the device manager and bios, but does not appear in my windows explorer. I've also included a picture of the disk management below.

A:HELP! Secondary Hard Drive Issue

Hello there viyu!

Sorry to hear you are having some troubles setting up your new hard drive, but it seems you haven't said if you had done any of the steps on initializing and formatting your hard drive. So I will provide a few short steps on how to do so.

1. Hit the start menu and in the search at the bottom type in disk management, I do believe you have it open in the picture already so that is the first thing.

2.Right click on your unallocated hard drive and click initialize this should open up a new menu keep MBR checked off and make sure you have the proper hard drive checked off.

3.After that is done right click on the hard drive again and click format and it should take you through a step by step process which is fairly simple and make sure you keep it on NTSF and then select your hard drive letter.

That should be everything to get your new hard drive up and running, If I have missed anything I am sure some one will correct me or add their advice into what I have missed!

Good luck!
Swifty.

Recently got a laptop upgrade from my company to an HP EliteBook 840. My office setup includes a slim dock with dual monitors. I noticed that switching between screens, one of them does not load the window of the programs I have open completely. The failure to load the full window is independent of what type of program I'm using. It happens with photo viewers, email, file explorer, etc. At first I thought it had something to do with the type of cable being used for the screen that was having issues, however, at the moment I'm using my laptop screen with an external monitor connected to the DisplayPort, using the external monitor as primary screen and laptop screen as secondary, and I'm having the same issue with loading screens on my laptop screen. It seems the loading issue is not the hardware but the software, since the problem is happening on whatever I set up to be my secondary screen. When the display windows do not load properly, dragging them from the title bar and maximizing them fixes the problem, as this seems to trigger a full refresh of the display. Looking through the forum, a similar thread suggested updating the video drivers, which I already did and did not fix the issue. Alhough this is a minor issue, it is affecting my working speed so I would really appreaciate it if you provide a solution. I hope this post is clear enough and provides the information necessary to diagnose the issue successfully. I'm not an IT professional so I don'... Read more

Thanks all for the help (preemptive)
The build is as follows
Core i5 3570k (not over clocked yet)
ASRock z77 extreme 4
Samsung 120G SSD
Seagate Barracuda 2tb 72k
8gb (4x2) Cruicial ddr3 1600 ram
GTX 680
700w OCZ Modular p/s

Ran into issues on build day 2 days ago with crashing driver issues etc. installing drivers was actinglike fliles were corrupt even off the disks.
I replaced cables on drives, swapped the Bios for the SATA ports to mimic IDE, installed new version of windows with the Seagate not plugged in. Installed drivers for Mother Board rebooted to Bios swapped back from IDE on the SATA.

Puts around a bit no real issues, installed the data drive rebooted and started to install software from steam and origin as well as Windows updates.
BSOD a few times,
Logged off ran memtest over night passed all 7 tests, ran again on each stick all passed.

Windows is freezing trying to install all the updates that is the latest bsod in the log file.
the 2tb drive is still uninstalled but seems stable

Not sure what is causing this, I did run CCleaner a few mins ago and it puked a ton of registery errors cleaned them up ran again found more, cleaned now it says it is clean.

Here is the zip I am at wits end and do not want to RMA the Seagate if i dont have to but willing to if you all think that is my problem.

I am going to try and install the windows updates 1 at a time.

Hi all!

I've encountered a little problem. I have multiple sites in several country where needed to deploy win10 with different language and keyboard settings.

Everything else is fine, all other countries are OK but czech and poland.. I need to apply keyboard setting so that cs-CZ (pl-pl) is default, en-US secondary.

I've configured unattend.xml file so that inputlocale is cs-CZ; en-US (pl-Pl; en-US).. it should work.. ? Well it doesn't. I've tried also with: 0405:0001045; 0409:00000409.. .Still same.. In OS there is only czech keyboard.. Of course I can add en-US keyboard manually but I need to have it automatically.. Why en-US won't be there seen automatically in list? Also when adding manually en-us then UI lang will change after re-login to cz-CS (I haven't applied any other ui lang than eng in unattended.xml)

I have input locale configured in 4 Specialize and 7 oobeSystem in xml file.

I'm using Win10 1511 ent x64, SCCM is CB..

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I recently switched to a dual monitor set up using my LapTop/Docking Station and 2 Monitors. (I added a second monitor to my Docking Station and closed the Laptop Screen.)

I previously used a Monitor and my Laptop Screen. (The Monitor was set as Primary, and the Laptop screen as Secondary. The Monitor was set to the Sub-D on the Docking Station.)

When I had the Monitor/Laptop setup -all open applications and desktop icons stayed in place. With the two monitor set up, the applications open on my Secondary Monitor move to the Primary after Waking Up, and the Desktop icons on my Primary shift around. (I have to drag everything back...)

This is annoying, please assist...

Dell E1911 (Secondary Monitor) Sub-D

Thanks for the Support

Have you tried disabling the laptop monitor entirely? Also, try setting your icons up as you prefer, then doing a full reboot.
