soft zooming sound?

Q: soft zooming sound?

I sometimes hear a soft zooming sound from the pc-case. It's sort of a vibrating sound, as if the sounds is from a fan. It's usually not hard, but it keeps going on for a long time. A few times, these vibrating sounds were quite loud, for a short time. What could this sound be, and how can it be fixed? There aren't any warning messages from windows.

Preferred Solution: soft zooming sound?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer is making kind of a loud whistling sound, it doesn't look like I have bad caps(on my motherboard) though.

Also I hear some sort of "disc spinning" or "fan-like sound" that's loud but it's "soft" loud(like a refrigerator/freezer makes a sort of "soft" but loud sound) makes but it's not my fans. I am guessing it could be my hard drive?

Anyone know what problem I could possibly have?

I just tried out the media center but I noticed that when playing files the sound is soft. The media center splash screen is loud when I open the program but I have to turn the volume way up to have it play normal. When I use Media Portal which is almost the same as Media Center the volume is fine. I even tried uninstalling Media Portal just in case the codecs conflict or something. Is there a setting I have to change? I configured the audio in media center for 7.1 speakers.

Sorry I posted this in the wrong section. Mods can you move it to the Media Center section. Thanks.

So I turned on my computer today and the startup sounds would be normal but sounds for all applications would be very soft. For example when you move the volume mixer to full it would still be really soft. The only sounds that work fine is when I am watching youtube and also when I run steam as an admin because if i dont run in admin mode I am able to barely hear the sounds but it would function normally otherwise. I use mics over Ventrilo, a teamspeak-type program for people to talk. Randomly one day people couldn't hear me; I thought it was my mic. I bought a new one on Newegg and it has the same problem. I used the 'test hardware' app on both, and found that all three mics (both ones plugged into the jack and my mic built into the laptop) can transmit sound but only when I speak really, really close to it... and even then the sound is distorted. I thought at first it was a mic jack issue but the built-in mic has the same problem which suggests otherwise.

Anyone know how I can fix it? Do I have an internal mic volume that's just set to receive only really close sounds, or is something else screwed up?

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer version on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72117.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72105.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter.  Hold down the Power button continuously for 20 seconds then release it.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  ... A:fraps: sound recording is soft

Go to control panel \ sound \ Recording

Make sure the volume levels are up high enough and test.

Do this with everything in recording that has a green check mark.

Also, bottom right of your screen, by the time, doubleclick the speaker icon.
Make sure everything is raised, not just the main volume.

You can use MS sound recorder for that. Go to the Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder. Before recording you need to setup your audio properties to record stereo mix. Good luck!

I have a problem with the audio device of z61t-9441-a35. After I made a clean installation of Windows XP professional with SP3 patch, I found that the sound volume is too low. The speaker could produce the sound approximately half as lound as before, even the volume indicator in XP's volume control panel had been maximised, so as to the IBM's sound panel and the SoundMax's one. The driver I am using was downloaded from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62855 , which would be the lastest one. I would really appreciated if anyone can help me solving this issue. Hi all,

I just got a 5.1 Speakers set.
Anyway, the smart guys that designed the sound card, or drivers, dont let me use all specific jack holes to hook them up.
Instead, they force me to use mic and line out holes to get Center/Woofer and front sounds.
I need headphones and mic at least as often as speakers.

Anyway, I have a splitter device that let me connect both headphones and front speakers, also mic and Center/woofer.
Where can I find a simple application that let me switch from headphones/mic mode to 5.1 speakers mode.
I can write one myself in VB if I get the right direction where to look (Windows API?).

The best solution whould be a simple sys-tray icon that give me a menu to switch from 5.1 to headphones.
That whould set Speakers setup from desktop speakers to 5.1 speakers and mic/front checkbox you can see in C-panel/Sound and Audio device.

A:Custom soft to change Sound and Audio Speakers setup

I would say you are better off getting a new sound card with more ports. Switching liek that shoudl be built into the sound card drivers.

I freshly reinstalled my windows 7.
before and after the install,
when I watch videos on youtube.com (that's the only example atm),
the videos play great, flawless framerate, no matter the quality.
but they will randomly lockup. pause. only while in fullscreen.
high speed internet, videos have completed downloading, streaming speed isn't the issue.

if i press ESC to the video minimizes to a smaller display and works flawlessly,
if i press full screen again, the video continues flawlessly, untill 5 or 10 seconds later,
no specific time, they may more may not pause again.

no other system annoyances that i can recall.
i tried updating divx, although Ive never had to install those to watch youtube.

any ideas what could cause full screen video lockup?
ESC and a refullscreen instantly solves the issue, but i have to do it a few times throughout some videos.

reinstall java maybe? seems like I had to install java to watch youtube. i forget.

I just recently had a problem similar to yours, just mine was a bit more complex and have put it on the 'backburner' untill I have more time. I havent found a reason why my disk did 'fail' but dont worry, it can be recovered. Greg recommended this program to solve my solutions, Partition Wizard. This comes in many 'formats' Home version is what you want, it is free and allows you to do the tasks you will need. There is also a more advanced 'bootable' cd which can aslo be foudn on their website. By following this link to a video guide, you have lots of chances of recovering most-all of your data, only downside is that you must have a seperate hdd to copy the recovered files onto, be it your internal HDD or an external one. DONT COPY YOUR RESTORED FILES STRAIGHT BACK ONTO THE DRIVE as this may lead to permenante data loss. It is upto you if you choose the cd/normal one. Could i recommend you ask gregrocker to have a say in this thread as he knows alot in this area,

Common complaint, I am working with Windows 7 on a Dell Optiplex 755, but teh issue is with the System Volume setting. When I go to the audio mixer and do the test and configuration, the SoundMax audio level is loud and clear. The problem is with the Windows system settings somewhere, is there a limiter or cap setting in teh registry that I can set to maximum?

I know that it is not the standard slide bars/levels but somewhere that Windows 7 Professional is cutting the volume on any Windows application. The drivers are fine, if I invoke the card directly it will blast the sound out. But in any application it is too soft.

A:Windows 7, sound limit, audio card is loud Windows is soft

As you have a Dell, for proper operation you need to use the Dell supplied driver. I used to do a lot of support on the Dell forums and we found that non-Dell sound drivers either did not work or did not work correctly.

Here is the Dell Vista sound driver, it will also work with Windows 7 as it is just "Vista improved". It is for both the 32 bit and 64 bit OS versions. Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

This is a first step. If its still not working correctly after installing the driver, the next thing is what programs you are using that are "low"? If you click on the speaker icon in the notification area (lower right) you can set the system volume level.

This may sound stupid but how do you zoom in on google chrome?

ORIGONALLY: when i zoom in on something things become closer together and magnify, but now instead when i zoom in onsomething the 2 bars along the side and bottom of the screen appear (one to scroll up and down and one to scroll left and right)

how do i change it back so things just magnify and get closer together like they used to???

i have looked and played around with the settings and Java has been updated (if that has anything to do with it???)

This actually started a couple of months ago. I was browsing like normal and all the sudden I can only see about 1/8th of the screen. It looks like I have a magnifying glass over one part of the web page I was browsing.

Funny thing is...my mouse acts as if the screen is normal. I can move it to the bottom of the screen and click in the lower left to bring up the windows menu. I can only see the very top of the windows menu though.

Everything goes back to normal if I Alt-F4 and close the web page. It has done this on more than a couple different ones now. So it doesnt seem to have to do with the actual web page itself.

I thought it had stopped until today. It did it again!

Now since it first did it, I have bought a new video card and am using newer drivers. So it cant be the video card or drivers.

I have also updated to SP2 since this first happened...so it isnt SP2 related either.

I dont have any accessibility options installed.

None of the times I have had anything running in the background.

I have never had it happen outside of IE though.

System Info:

Win XP Home edition (SP2)
DX 9.0c
GeForce 5900xt
IE 6.0
Detonator 61.77

Hope someone can help with this extremely odd and rare (I have yet to come across another post with this problem through MUCH searching) problem. Thank you.

A:IE 6.0 Randomly Zooming in...help please.

Just an update.

I noticed the page it was zooming in on had flash player running.

So I kept reloading the page trying to get it to do it again and it did. Odd thing was, it did it while I was using the scroll wheel on my mouse.

I also noticed on flash player windows, there is an option to ZOOM in on the window. The effect is the EXACT same I am experiencing, only its the entire webpage zooming in.

Another oddity...I decided I would take a screenshot of the zoomed in webpage to post here. So I hit printscreen and pasted in to windows paint....funny thing is, in windows paint, the webpage is NORMAL size.

So I uninstalled flash player 7 and have tried to recreate the zoom effect. No luck.

So I am beginning to think its a problem with flash player 7 and my computer. Unfortunately, leaving flashplayer off my computer would be annoying. Seems like 90% of the webpages out there use flash (including this one).

Any help guys/gals? Would VERY much be appreciated. Thanks again.

A:mouse zooming in and out

First of all - welcome to BC !
Is your mouse wheel zooming in everything ?  The reason I ask is that it is meant to zoom in graphics type applications - image viewers, Google Earth, drawing packages, and to scroll in text type applications - such as Word, most web pages and so on. Very flexible little beasts mice !
If it is zooming all the time it is likely to be either a mouse driver problem or a faulty mouse. The easiest way to establish if there is a problem with a mouse is try a different. Just borrow one. But get back to us.

New Medion P86004 (MD 86061) 2MP Webcam from Aldi installed but zooms and pans on its own whether it's set to manual zoom or face recognition; it continues to zoom in and out and pan right/left throughout use, whether in Skype or in the still/video recording software that came with it. Medion have sent me a replacement which does the same thing. Have tried it on someone else's laptop - does the same thing. Have reinstalled driver. No change. Looked for updated driver - none available. Medion support line say no-one else has complained about this fault and it's unlikely to be two webcams with same physical fault (Logical, I agree.) Nothing else wrong with my very nice Dell XPS 420 as far as I know. Previous ancient webcam - Creative PD1001 - worked fine (albeit with rubbish picture), but had no zoom.

how do you prevent the screen display zooming in on a HP probook 430 G3. This type has just been given to the children in my k-2 class and some kids somehow make the screen zoom in and the two finger pinch doesnot resume it back to its original size. Is there a way of diabling this feature and locking it on a normal size screen? Thanks

Hi guys n girls,

This is so annoying as it has happened before but I cannot remember how on earth I fixed it!!

I have a Microsoft wireless mouse (mobile mouse 6000), had it for 2 years and it's worked fine (except this issue once before). All of sudden tonight the mouse centre wheel starts zooming in and out instead of scrolling and left click is opening everything in a new window. My trackpad on the laptop is working fine.

Sony Vaio laptop, Win 7 Home, 64bit.

No software or hardware updates have happened, nothing in particular happened, I was scrolling through eBay and all of a sudden it stopped scrolling and started zooming!

My keys are fine, the ctrl keys are not stuck down. I have reset the mouse to default, re-installed the mouse, sworn at it, threatened it with violence, nothing, still the same.

Oh and my trackpad is doing the same thing, swiping it is zooming and when I try to left or right click it just freezes.

I have Googled the issue and all I can see is people giving stupid responses like changing things in the registry which I am not going to entertain, clearly this is something 'simple' that has happened so I am not going to mess up my laptop and start re-writing things on it!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I know it was something simple before but I really am so frustrated because I cannot remember what it was

Often Malware exhibits odd behavior, it's an easy thing to scan for.

AdwCleaner is a two step process. Scan then Clean

Step 1: Download and Scan

Click here to download AdwCleaner (author: Xplode)
>> save the application to your Desktop.
Right-click AdwCleaner.exe on your Desktop and select Run As Administrator to run the scanner with full privilege rights.
AdwCleaner is a standalone executable, there is no install.
Click on the Scan button.
>> AdwCleaner begins scanning your system. It might take some time to complete, be patient
When the scan has finished, click on the Report button
>> the AdwCleaner log: AdwCleaner[R#].txt is opened in your default Text editor.
[R#] gets incremented every time you run AdwCleaner - the highest number is the most recent.
Look through the log for any recognizable entries - don't worry about other details in the log.
Unitck any that you are certain about. Then clean the system

Click on the Scan button.
>> AdwCleaner begins scanning your system. It might take some time to complete.
>> You can review the objects that will be cleaned at this point of the process. Objects are grouped under the tabs. If there is something you KNOW should not be cleaned, untick the box [_] next to the object. Otherwise, go to the next step.
After the scan has finished... click on the Clean button.Answer OK to the "close all programs" prompt, then follow the onscreen prompts.
Answer OK to the "re... Read more

Hey everyone, this is my first post.

I recently got a windows 8 asus laptop, with 15.6 inch screen. I have a folder of pictures that Ive taken in the past, but when I try to set one as either a desktop background or lock screen, it zooms all the way in on a part of the picture ruining it. how can I prevent this? when i press set as desktop background, I want to have that same image set. not a zoomed in version of it. Thanks everyone
(not sure if this is the right place for this post. If not, my apologies)

A:Desktop background zooming error

Hello Llane, and welcome to Eight Forums.

What is your screen resolution, and what are the dimensions of the picture? Using an image that is the same size as your screen resolution, or same aspect ratio, will give you the best results.

For your desktop background, you might also see if testing the image with the different fill, fit, etc.... picture positions at step 11 in the tutorial below to see which one it may look best with.
Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007
Hope this helps for now,
