I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi All, I recently acquired a x280. I'm an unfortunate Linux user. The x280 has some unsupported hardware by the Linux kernel, so instead of complaining to a company which does not care, let's hack the kernel and make it work. The NFC chip has a commercial name : NXP NPC300 but it is unclear what real chipset is behind. It 'seems' it is a np548 chipset but the ACPI enumeration returns 'NXP1001' instead of 'NXP5440'. Can someone confirm the chipset version on this laptop ?Or perhaps a Windows user can check in the device list name ? Thanks in advance

This bug deserves more attention than it is currently receiving. It should be pinned in every forum with an affected machine, so that the owners of those machines are aware that it exists. It is currently squirreled away in the T series forum, under the outdated title "T480s - ACPI bug". I have asked that the thread title be updated and received no response. I have to presume that Lenovo did not see my request (in which case, they'll see it now). It would also be nice to get some kind of status update. For example, I am still waiting for confirmation that the patches from the newer thread were sent to engineering (see this message).

I've got a very good condition Inspiron 1100 that came with a Celeron Chip. I would like to see how possible it is to find a Pentium or Pentium-Like Chip and switch it out with the current slower Celeron.

I know you might need some technical info about the laptop so what should I post that might help to see if it is something that might make it a better performing machine? I'm not really looking to get a new laptop since I have one from my company, but the personal one is just slow and lags. I've had worked with other friends when doing it to a desktop but not a laptop.

I've been troubleshooting random errors (most of which were resolved when I corrected the jumper settings for the CPU), mostly freezing during bootup or problems with the ATA RAID driver. My original set of problems can be found here: http://forums.techguy.org/t247393&highlight=acpi+uniprocessor.html
The computer still freezes one out of every 4 bootups while the Windows splash screen is showing, and I have gotten the occasional blue screen ("Driver IRQ not less or equal" the only recurring one). A friend of a friend is certain that the problem is the HAL driver, and I'm curious about what the difference between the drivers is.

My AMD XP 2500 Soyo board (single processor board) under Win2K SP4 is using an ACPI Uniprocessor setup... he says it should just read "Advanced Configuration Power Interface (ACPI) PC"... is there a difference? Is it possible that I should switch to the second one to change any issues my computer might be having?
If not, what should I be looking for that might be causing the freezing on bootup?

Hi, I am looking for advice or workarounds for a problem with USB 3.0 and Windows 8 / 8.1.

We produce a proprietary USB dongle which uses a USB 1.1 stack (it's old). We are starting to see issues on USB 3.0 ports of systems running Windows 8 and 8.1. We have had no reports of problems with Windows XP, Vista, or 7 even those with USB 3.0 ports. Device
manager reports code 10, device cannot start.

Our dongle uses a third-party driver from Jungo. Jungo sent us a debugger program that hooks into their driver so they could see the log file. They believe it's not a problem with their driver, saying it's something lower level.  I'm inclined to agree
because not every customer with Windows 8 and USB 3.0 has a problem.

We actually had a customer ship us his laptop for us to examine: Acer Aspire V3. This system will not work with our dongle, no matter what we've tried. It did give us the opportunity to run some tests, but so far, I haven't been able to narrow down a root cause.

What we know so far:
Customers who have separate USB 2.0 ports or a USB 2.0 hub can sometimes work around any USB 3.0 issues. However, customers with only 3.0 ports and a few with a mix of 2.0 and 3.0 like the Acer Aspire V3 mentioned earlier still have problems.

Our dongles will pass testing USB-IF's USB Command Verifier tool up until the enumeration test. So far, we have not seen a dongle pass all 150 enumerations.

Hello,

I recently had to manipulate a lot my Bluetooth antenna installation due to several tests...
The problem is, some third-party softwares I tested didn't managed to remove properly the dongle enumeration in my Windows registry.

When I reintalled the original pilots, my connection had an ugly "#2" stuck in the name... I went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\BTH and I could see there was 2 enumerations!

Then, I went to the System/Devices entries and I manually deleted anything related to Bluetooth, and when I reconnected my antenna, the network switched to... "#3"!

Aaarghh!!
Could you help me cleaning up that mess?

A:Cleaning up device enumeration

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
devmgmt.msc

Device Manager will open. Select View -> Show hidden devices from the menu.

I want to have Access-based Enumeration (users could only see which they're allowed to) for my entire (LAN) network. As far as I know this tool is only available for Windows Server 2003 en by default for 2008. For my XP systems I use Windows SteadyState, which i.a. moderates some registry-strings to do this.

Now I want to implement it on my Windows 7 LAN-network. By which (registry-)tweaks or tools could I do this? Does anyone have a workaround yet?

Thanks again, in advance!

I have a Seagate GoFlex 1 Tb USB 3.0 drive. All worked good until a week or two ago. Now the drive will not be recognized when plugged into a USB 3.0 port, the error given is "Unknown USB Device (Device Failed Enumeration).

If I plug the GoFlex drive into a a USB 2.0 port, it works. I can plug USB 2.0 devices into the USB 3.0 port and they work. I just can't plug my USB 3.0 drive into a USB 3.0 port and get it to work.

I have tried uninstalling the Unknown USB Device in Device Manager. I've also uninstalled all other instances of it failing to be recognized.

My motherboard has a VIA VL805 USB controller. I've used the drivers on Gigabyte's site and I've used VIA's drivers, no difference. I have the latest BIOS for my motherboard.

The drive does not show up in Disk Management when plugged into a USB 3.0 port. This shouldn't be a surprise since the device is unknown in the Device Manager.

I thought the problem might be with the USB 3.0 cable or the GoFlex drive's USB interface. So I bought a new USB 3.0 docking station and...same problem. The new docking station also fails enumeration. Basically what it boils down to is a USB 3.0 storage device will not be recognized in a USB 3.0 port. But they work when plugged into a USB 2.0 port. To me this seems to suggest a driver problem, but I'm out of ideas as I've tried all the drivers I can come across.

I've searched all over for solutions and I'm not having any luck.

You might just need to uninstall those USB 3.0 drivers you have and reboot you PC and install this VIA_XHCI_Driver_V4.50A_AP .

I have peripherals that attach via USB/serial cable. Each time I plug into a USB port, apparently XP is assigning another Com # to it. The peripheral software can only be configured up to Com10. The only USB ports in constant use are printer, mouse, and scanner. These are always connected. I can go into the device manager to access the ports and try to reassign a lower com # but the port is being reported as "in use" rendering it unavailable for anything. How do I clean these out or reset com #'s ? or stop the enumeration process ?
I have, in safe mode, tried to remove all USB ports, hub controllers and serial ports for the pc. I have also removed all instances of the drivers for the serial/usb ports as well as the software requiring it use. Upon restarting, all ports are reinstalled including the phantom ones. XP insists on remembering.......
Thanks in advance for any guidance here.......

I'm installing a new hard drive. Because I have a multi card reader the o.s. was enumerated last (drive H ). Will this cause a problem down the road, or is it immaterial ?

A:Operating System Enumeration

Depends. If you are installing a new hard drive to be used as a system drive...it could. If you are installing a new drive that is just another drive...letter assignments don't matter much once you get beyond C: and D:.The presence of a card reader should have no impact on a new system drive, since it precedes the card readers when it comes to hardware recognition. OTOH, if this hard drive has been merely added after the card reader...then it logically makes sense for letter assigned to be farther up the alphabet. All drive letters (except C:) can be changed by using the Disk Management feature of XP.Disk Management - http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_management.htm Louis

I have i7/HT processor and run resource-hungry simulations on it in Win 7 Pro environment.
The problem is that while the simulations are multi-threaded they create threads by
pairs and quads in a time.
The software quickly create 2 threads that are usually dropped on the same physical core, on one virtual cpu after another.
I've heard that in the past MS was changing HT enumeration order depending on OS and even OS subversion (i.e. 2000 and XP, XP and XP-server, they have different enumeration)
Is it possible to change enumeration order via some tweaks in Windows 7?
What are predefined CPU/HT enumeration orders in various Win7 versions? (e.g. Home, Pro, Ultimate, various Server subversions) ?

Currently I have 1A,1B,2A,2B... enumeration on Windows 7 Pro.  And I dramatically loose performance.
It would have some reason Netburst architecture, but absolutely unreasonable on i7 with unified L3 cache.
The optimal would be: 1A,2A,3A,4A-1B,2B,3B,4B, where A&B are for HT virtual cores.

Windows 2000 machine has several folders shared on a WORKGROUP peer network with permissions set EVERYONE full access in share level and ntfs file permisisons (this includes guest before winXP). Some folders only have READ/LIST access for GUEST.

All users, both guest and users that authenticate as a local user on the win2k box, can use \\fully\qualified\UNC\paths to access any of the shares, such as \\Win2kComp\SHAREFOLDER and it works fine, they can access the contents of the folder.

Guest users, while able to use the UNC path, cannot "browse" the network. I am an experienced user and a software developer so I am very comfortable with the technology.

I have been searching through numerous forums to get some more options. Since I did not find anything, I need to post for help.

I had a game (Mass Effect) lock up on me. I waited a bit and tried the Windows Key and Ctrl-Alt-Del to get control back. No luck. I shutdown the machine using the hardware switch. On reboot, the system drive - the only drive - drive C: - was "not found".

I rebooted and entered the Windows XP Recovery Console. At the C: prompt, I did a 'dir". I got the dreaded "An error has occurred during directory enumeration.". Obviously, the directory tables got hosed. I ran "chkdsk /r /p". It ran for about two hours and then announced that there were "unrecoverable errors".

I booted up a copy on Linux (Ubuntu) from CD. From there I could get most of the files I needed copied off to a file share. There were two directories that showed zero files - one called "Backup" and one called "Photos" - the worst two to have that result. I would really like to be able to repair the "directory table" to be able to get the last month of photos that I did not backup yet.

What are my options for trying to get the directory structure "re-built"? Is there something from Linux that I can use to help? I am willing to purchase a 3rd party tool, too, if that will help. It is an NTFS drive.

So I have read other topics regarding other models, but this one is in particular in relation to my new work laptop an X280.The fan is ridiculously noisy. When I log into my windows account, a simple webpage refresh causes the fan the go overdrive and gets really noisy. Noisier than any other laptop I've had in the last 10 years. Way noisier than my previous X260. It gets rather distracting. I get that when you are doing something CPU intensive the fans need to kick in, but loading a webpage with 20% CPU usage should not be one of those situations. Even more so when the computers is not that hot anyways. I have tried setting hte thermal power settings to "balanced" while on AC power in the BIOS but it seems that it had very little effect. Is this a known issue? Is lenovo going to do anything about it?

Hi I'm toying with getting an X280 to replace my 5 year old MacBook Pro. A small form factor is important to me these days as I make music when I'm out and about, but when I am using it at home I'd also like to be able to use it with an external GPU (the Razer Core X for example) to do some low end graphics work, and occasionally play some games of course. Does anyone know if the X280 has the ability to run external graphics via the Thunderbolt 3 port? It's not necessarily a deal breaker for me, the kind of graphics work I want to do is very low-res, low-poly stuff, and maybe the internal graphics will handle this just fine. It would just be good to know going forward - I called tech support and they gave me a vague yes, based on the X280 having Thunderbolt 3. Any information/experiences with this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hello All,

I have run into an interesting problem. Currently I have data coming from a device connected to my serial port. The problem that I have is that Windows XP see's the data as a Serial mouse and then my system is unusable until I have stopped the data. That being said, I checked with Microsoft and they claim that /FASTDETECT in the boot.ini file will disable any and all serial/parallel mouse enumeration. That is unfortunately not the case. We have also found that disabling a registry key/changing it will cause this device not to be detected as a serial (legacy device). However, this must be done manually or each time a new serial device is added to the system. Is there any way to permanantly disable all serial mouse enumerations with one method that will not come back when adding a new serial device to the system?

Your help is greatly appreciated in this matter.

We figured out, that if we will change port to the USB-C GEN 2 (that's the one with the Thunderbolt), there is no problem at all. Right now there are already 2 users (ie. 2 individual X280) with same behaviour, so maybe there is somebodyelse, who expereince some trouble with usb-c port Gen 1? Hi everyone,Recently I purchased x280 and also the lte module (FIBOCOM GL-850). The motherboard, however, does not recognize the module at all, even after a clean format of the windows 10. Before I request changing the motherboard, my question is: Does some x280 models come with a motherboard that does not recognize LTE module? Other words, is this normal? I only ask because of the fact that my motherboard does not recognize the module at all rather than showing bluescreen or other types of errors and also read from somewhere that unless purchasers ordered lte module through CTO, lte module cannot be installed aftermath.  Look forward to your help.  Below is my model number:20KFCTR1WW Thank You

We are running ATA 1.7.5647 and recently started getting "Reconnaissance using directory services enumeration" warnings.  It seems to be occurring at the user login and happened about 6 times with 5 different users.
I see that I can disable this alert in the Mongo DB but would rather try to track down what is causing it.  I can't pin down what is causing this.

Here's something that MySQL developers might find useful; I'm building an app with an address form. Creating an enumeration list of the states was a pain so I thought I'd share it;

'AL','AK','AZ','AR','CA','CO','CT','DE','DC','FL','GA','HI','ID','IL','IN','IA','KS','KY','LA','ME','MD','MA','MI','MN','MS','MO','MT','NE','NH','NJ','NM','NY','NC','ND','OH','OK','OR','PA','RI','SC','SD','TN','TX','UT','VT','VA','WA','WV','WI','WY'

enjoy, -M

Got an alert from the Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics that I think has to be legit.  It is in my sharepoint 2013 environment and it says the following.

Suspicious account enumeration activity using Kerberos protocol, originating from SERVER, was detected. The attacker performed a total of 346 guess attempts for account names, 296 guess attempts matched existing account names in
Active Dir
Sounds like a real attack to me but does anyone know if this is sharepoint doing something, highly unlikely since sharepoint wouldnt be guessing accounts like this.

thanks,

Jason VanCise

New to ATA but have found some security flaws on our part so far.  I can't seem to find a solution for the following
Reconnaissance using SMB Session Enumeration
SMB session enumeration attempts were successfully performed from certificateserv against dc,
exposing 555 accounts.

This is happening between our root certificate server, and one of our DC's.  The "exposed
accounts"  seem to be all of our workstations.

Is this common, and can be ignored?  Has anyone else ran into this?

Thanks
