Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)

Q: Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)

I got a new vista, and I noticed this. Do I need this checked? Am I better off with it checked? What the heck is it/ I've read in many forums where people advise to turn this off, but that's only to fix a problem. What's the real deal holyfield here?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am just curious about this protocol. on my desktop computer it shows local access and sometimes shows limited internet access. On my Laptop, wifi puter, the IPv6 is never used, is there a way to utilize this protocol for my laptop and why does the access go from limited internet to Local on my desktop?

Thank you

A:Internet Protocol Version 6

I don't know much about IPv6. Even this 'introductory' video is too technical for me in parts!; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wa7y3W2DI0&feature=related

One thing I do remember reading last year, when IPv6 Day was held, was that it wouldn't have much impact on home users until the majority of ISP's enabled the new protocol on their servers. I assume that will cost money so they'll only do it when IPv4 addresses are closer to exhaustion.

EDIT: Attempts to post the video URL seem to produce a 'freeze frame'. Go to www.explania.com and search 'What is IPv6?'

I am using a wireless linksys wrt160n router with a linksys AE1000 usb adapter on windows 7. Up until now I have had no problems. A few days ago, I came home to find that we had had a blackout. I had no connection and could not seem to fix it.
Up until that time, I've always used my network connection 4 for internet access but no matter what I did to I couldn't get a connection. So I thought if I disabled this connection and then enabled it that somehow it would reset itself and I would have a connection. Unfortunately when I disabled it there was no option for enabling it because it disappeared. I currently am using network connection 6, but my internet is at a crawling speed.

I searched on how to reinstall network connections 4 and found this page http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-TCP-IP-settings
At the bottom is says to "To install IPv4, run Command Prompt as an administrator, type netsh interface ipv4 install, and then press Enter." I did so successfully and restarted my computer like it said to after inputting the command. But when I brought up my network connections, there was no network connection 4.

I even went to the command prompt and typed ipconfig /all and the IPv4 entries are not there like it used to.
Any help would be appreciated.

thank you

Hello! I need help with networking on Windows 7. I have upgraded from Vista recently, but since then my network connection has just gone. I think it's something to do with the fact that my IPV6 protocol is behaving strangely, but I can't connect to any other devices on our home network. I can connect to the Internet, no problem, but I can't, for example, connect to my Xbox 360 with Media Centre. I have trawled the Internet looking for a solution, but I have had no luck. Also, instead of a signal strength icon in the bottom right corner, I have an five empty bars with a yellow star on it. Help!

How IPv6 works? After setup IPv6 properties and disable IPv4 no more internet connection available.

I went to ipv6 properties and setup the ip address, prefffix range and default gateway and then disable or uncheck the ipv4 check in an network interface card property now no more internet connection available.

So my question is, how to configure ipv6 to works without ipv4?

Cannot access the Internet after version 10 is installed on my desktop.

A:Network protocol missing after version 10 update

I have a laptop, I found after installing up dates after initial windows 10 install and restarting, I could not connect to the internet and error was missing protocols etc , while I am computer illiterate I rummaged around and found, That by turning off my laptop and then turning on, there was no error and I was connected to the internet, if I just restart the laptop then the error is back and so is loss of internet connection, so while this may be unrelated to your problem and I have yet to get this problem resolved it may help someone get connected, so turn off, not restart.

Hey guys I have a really frustrating problem right now and I was wondering if anyone could help me.

Very recently, my forwarded ports stayed closed (even though I've definitely opened them from the router page) and configuring a static ip gets really random. I'm using a Belkin wireless USB adapter right now, instead of the ethernet cable I was using a few weeks ago, but I don't think this is the problem.

Thanks guys

IPv6 isn't used for accessing the internet, it's only used internally for the time being.

The port forwarding problem could be your A/V software, a third party firewall or even Windows firewall.

If you are having problems with the wireless connection why not go back to the wired connection instead.

In Ipv6 enabled Windows 2003 server, Ping from local server resolves to Link-local IPv6 Address. Also in a server that has multiple NIC cards, ping resolves to lowest available NIC card number.
How can I change this to ping point to IPv4 address of the server?
It is application requirement to connect by hostname from local server, and IPv4 and IPv6 should be enabled on the server.

I have a strange problem with my uncles desktop pc. That pc has to be always on for video recording but once in a while Windows will automatically reboot and i just can't exactly find out why.
But why i did found out is that he's always getting 3 error messages (in the Windows event viewer) about 20 min prior to the unplanned reboot.
These are the error message in the event viewer:
1) The following fatal alert was generated: 10. The internal error state is 1203 --> Schannel ID3688 --> time: 19:00
2) The same as above on the exact same time with same event
3) RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client --> TermDD ID50 --> Time: 19:48 (about 25 min prior to the reboot)
Who can help me out here. This is driving me crazy. Sometimes we miss days of recording, while we aren't using that PC for other things.
Thanks in advance!

I did quite a bit of online research prior to asking my own question, but none of  the solutions I've found online really pertain to the issue we're experiencing.
We have 2 Windows 7 Pro PCs in the office.  They are accessed via RDP from within the same network/location.  The systems that are accessing these 2 PCs are an XP Pro machine and a Mac.  The clients stay connected for randomly lengths of time
(no longer than 1 hour) before the session goes black and disconnects them randomly.  When the disconnect occurs, it's not due to inactivity.  The user has to wait several minutes before they are able to reconnect.
On the Windows 7 PCs, Event Viewer gives:
Event ID: 50  The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.
Event ID: 56  The Terminal Server security layer detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.
I've seen suggestions of checking registry keys and a lot of suggestions regarding Windows Server and Terminal Server, but they don't apply to our situation.  Please let me know if more information is required.  Thank you!

A:The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.

Do you enable the
IEEE 802.1x authentication?

Regarding the issue, I suggest updating the network adapter driver manually on Windows 7 PCs. Also update the router's driver and firmware.

If the issue persists, you could disable the TCP Offload. To do this,

Run the following commands on both the client and the server to disable NIC offloading.

netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled

netsh int tcp set global rss=disabled

Modify the following registry key to disable netDMA on the client and the server.

Note: If this registry entry does not exist, right-click Parameters, point to New, click DWORD Value, type EnableTCPA, and then press ENTER.

Value: 0

You can also refer to the following KB to troubleshoot the issue. Hope it helps.

windows xp laptop works just fine, ps3 wphone also.

A:ipv6 no internet access

It's very likely that your network (or some component of it) does not support IPv6. You don't really need it. I can't say why you are unable to connect to the internet despite the status you see: it could be a driver issue, or something else.

When you type ipconfig /all in a command window what do you see? Compare that to the same thing from your XP machine. If you post the results here we may be able to help you do more troubleshooting.

To disable IPv6 you don't need to edit the registry: just edit the properties of your local area network connection and uncheck the IPv6 box.

Windows XP does not use IPv6.

Common problem but has nothing to do with IPv6.

When I search this problem here is what I get...

If Steam is not undergoing maintenance, and you are unable to connect in steam, open the steam folder (defaults to C:/program files/steam) and delete ClientRegistry.blob. Don't worry, when you open steam, it will be regenerated, and you might be able to connect again if that is your problem.

Common problem according to the Steam forum but with different possible solutions, deleting the ClientRegistry.blob seems to be the main fix.

I'm able to ping www.google.com, www.facebook.com, but not twitter.com,, or even my routers gateway address, even though that is what shows up when I run an ipconfig /all

It shows the yellow exclamation point indicating limited connection. And I could longer connect to any website even google or facebook.
I attempted the following three commands, but even after multiple times and reboots, this did not help.

Unfortunately I am not in a position to contact the Service Provider and no one here seems to have the list of numbers.
What I want to know is this?
Are the Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Server addresses the same for all four computers? Is it only the IP addresss that is different? It will be easier for my (by trial and error) to hit on the right IP Address if that is the only address I have to worry about.

(I have Windows XP) I was trying to clean out my computer for more disk space, so I was deleting files I thought I didn't need in my Program Files. I have a habit of deleting by using SHIFT+DELETE, which permanently deletes the file without sending it to the Recycle Bin. So I went into a folder titled "Bin" and deleted a bunch of what I thought was gibberish (weird file names). I also deleted other things I thought were unimportant.

Who would've thought that after doing that stupid act, I can no longer upload files, send files, OR view videos in my Windows Media Player.

ANOTHER THING: It also sometimes gives me an error message saying Windows met an error and had to close. I was viewing My Computer when it happened, and when I clicked more info. it said that I was missing an Internet Protocol (IP)..so I'm wondering how I can get it back?

A:One or more internet protocol is missing

Hello, there is quite a number of threads on this topic, and some suggested approaches. The problem appears to arise with build 10586 (the 'November upgrade').

It could also help if you complete your system specs (esp what type of wifi card you have e.g.).
(If unsure how to do that there is a Tutorial - see link above)
Do you also have this problem with an ethernet connection?

This refers to the build change and suggests a somewhat radical command:
Networking not working after Windows 10 Update (version 1511, build 10586.3) VirtualRick

A quick scan of these threads suggests:
Wifi+ win10= death of me - Page 4 - Windows 10 Forums
(please read the whole thread)

Note this one referring to a Windows Update:
Possible Solution to Win 10 WiFi Connection Problems - Page 2 - Windows 10 Forums

This one suggests registry patches:

You may wish to try using the search box above 'one or more internet protocols is missing' for more discussion.

The network adapter "Local Area Connection" is not correctly configured to use the IP protocol

The network adapter "Nvidia Networking Controller" is experiencing driver or hardware related issues.

Make sure your Internet Protocol Bindings are corrext
ensure that "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" are selected in teh configuration for the network adapter "Local Area Connection"

I checked the network adapter drivers and it said they were up-to-date.

I also did the protocol bindings check thing and they were both checked.

Any help? Operating system windows vista 32-bit.

Hello everyone. I recently had a sound problem on the internet in google chrome ( no sound at all although the system sound worked fine) I contacted tech guru to solve that problem. The guy installed shockewave and reinstall chrome on my pc and reboot my pc all remotly. At this stage my problem with chrome was not solved ( although the sound in Explorer and firefox worked )
After the remote reboot I could not reconnect to the internet: the local area connection status shows that ipv4 & 6 is not comnected anymore. I tried to turn on and off my network adapter, turn off my firewall and connect my pc directly to my cable modem( instead of being connected to my cisco 4200 v2 router) but nothing!!! I also tried to restart the DNS Client service and the DHCP client service: still nothing. The windows troubleshoot indicate a problem with the network adapter driver but I doubt it. Im running windows 7 ultimate.

Please help!!!!
Thanks a lot for any help

Yesterday i tried to unintall avira and zonealarm free from my computer using revo, however the programs would not completely uninstall and nothing I did would let me restore the system to an older restore point so I installed comodo and disabled avira and zonealarm from starting.
Then I tried to reconnect to the Internet and the computer connects with limited connectivity but wouldn't let me access internet. After clicking diagnose it comes up with 2 boxes one which says that the adapter haw driver or hardware isses but im not sure how to follow up on and the other is to make sure that Internet protocol bindings are correct: to ensure that IPv4 and IPv6 are deleted in configuration and I have selected them after clicking the dialogue box windows tried to but comes up with the same dialogue box.
Dispute this my iPod touch can connect to the Internet.
Please help and appologies for my ramblings but please help I am running vista on a toshiba laptop hope this helps and thanks in advance

A:Cannot connect to Internet IPv4 and IPv6 problems please help!

When you have two security applications apparently so corrupted that you cannot uninstall them adding yet another one doesn't seem to me to be moving in the right direction.

At this point I would be formatting the partition and going to a "fresh" Vista via Installation DVD, Recovery partition, Recovery DVDs or a backup image from before the problems started.

To continue on your current path I suggest to try uninstalling those critters in Safe Mode. There is a Removal Tool for ZoneAlarm; don't know about the others.

All of a sudden I cannot connect to the internet on my laptop using the ethernet or wireless. My desktop computer is fine.

It says that there is no connection on ipv4 and ipv6 and that my connection is limited (even though there is no connection.

I have followed everything I could in the following thread with no improvements.

I am on Vista and have had no problems with connectivity until today.

Is there any way someone could help me? Thanks.

I have been losing internet connection over the last couple of weeks and can't seem to find the problem. I would lose a connection after the system has been running for 2 hours to 8 hours. The error coming up is that the ethernet connection is lost. I have checked all connections, including testing of hardline and all is fine. Drivers have been updated. Through various forums, I have narrowed a temporary solution to disabling the TCP/IPv6. But now, I can't set up a home network. Reading other forums suggest changing the DHCP lease time may be a fix. I can't seem to access this to change the lease time. Anyone on the process to make this change? Further suggestions on fixing the problem? Thanks.

Hi Dave. welcome to the forums

Have you looked into resetting your router? Many ISP's send updates (firmware is 1 example) to the router and this has been known to cause issues with connectivity.

Consult your router documentation for information on how to reset your router

Just a warning to you folks out there that Norton Internet Security 2010 will break your connection to your homegroups. Seems it does something to the IPv6 protocol. I tried it on 2 machines running Ultimate 7 and spent hours on the phone with MS technical support. The only way to fix this problem is to uninstall NIS2010. There may also be a registry hack necessary to fix the problem after NIS is uninstalled. BEWARE

This post kinda gets me all in a , 'cause I have NIS 2010 installed and my Homegroup is alive and well - prospering in fact.

I'm trying to enable IPV6 on my PC but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I ran the Microsoft fixit to enable IPV6 and I rebooted. Now when I check here:

Test your IPv6.

It still says:

"No IPv6 address detected".
"Your DNS server (possibly run by your ISP) appears to have IPv6 Internet access."

What can I do to get it enabled? I'm using Google DNS. The box for it is also checked in my Network and Sharing Center properties.

A:Ran fixit to enable IPV6 but still no IPV6

My ISP doesn't support IPv6. My DNS Lookup Provider is Comodo Secure DNS and as far as I know it doesn't support IPv6.

You can try Google DNS with IPv6 support but most website servers don't use it yet:

The Google Public DNS IP addresses (IPv4) are as follows:
