Dr.Web for Android and Dr.Web for Android Light updated to versions 9.01.5 and 9.00.0, respectively

Q: Dr.Web for Android and Dr.Web for Android Light updated to versions 9.01.5 and 9.00.0, respectively

Russian anti-virus company Doctor Web has updated Dr.Web for Android and Dr.Web for Android Light to versions 9.01.5 and 9.00.0, respectively. The update improves the unlock algorithm for devices infected with locker ransomware and resolves known issues.

The unlock algorithm has been changed: the user should start charging the device, and then after five seconds, unplug the power cord and shake the device vigorously.

In addition, known defects have been corrected.

The updated anti-viruses are available on Google Play (Dr.Web for Android. Comprehensive protection, Dr.Web for Android. Life License and Dr.Web Anti-virus Light) as well as from Doctor Web's site.

The update will be downloaded and installed automatically. If automatic updates are disabled on the device, go to Google Play; choose Dr.Web Anti-virus, Dr.Web Anti-Virus Life license or Dr.Web for Android Light on the application list; and click "Update".

To perform an update via Doctor Web's site, download the updated distribution. If the option ?New application version? is enabled, a new version notification will be displayed when the virus databases are being updated. You can start the download directly from this dialogue box.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There are a number of Android apps (Google Play-sourced only), mainly photo and video-related, which I like a lot, although I don't really like using a tablet. I've researched a bit into Android emulators which run on Windows 7 e.g. here

6 best Android emulators for PC | Android Authority

and while the idea sounds great, I wonder -- Android is said to have loads of security flaws. I work pretty hard to keep my Win 7 PC clean (I hope!). Is there a risk that by running Android apps, I'm running security risks?

A:Does running an Android emulator bring Android-type security risks?

First of all, it's simply not true that Android has "lots of security flaws". Of course it's not immune to viruses and attackers, but it's not inherently that its an immense risk in it. There are vulnerabilities, but most problems actually came from using untrusted software that abuses the devise. As always, the number one vulnerability in any system is the user.

Now to business. There is no exact answer to that question. It will greatly depend on what emulator do you use and how it's exactly implemented, how does it manages to run Android software and how much does it emulated and how exactly. Frequently, I would expect a different implementation of the Android low level API, meaning that bugs in Android will never afect an emulator (which in turn can have its own bugs), unless some behavior is there "by design", in which case the emulator should attempt to copy it.
Besides, I would expect the emulator to isolate the host computer from malicious Android software (which is not generally aware of Windows existence). Unless an Android virus specifically targets a particular flaw of a particular version of a particular emulator (which as already happened with virtual machines), I won't worry too much about it.

The comes the problem of what programs do you install on the emulated Android. When you install a virus there, it will attempt to do the same malicious actions than it would do on a real phone. Some actions will work the same, for example those i... Read more

Today, June 16, 2016, Jide Technology, the creators of the well-known Android-x86-based Remix OS, have announced an official partnership with Android-x86's founder as well as the availability of multiple new Android PCs powered by Remix OS.

Jide Technology has grown a lot in the last couple of years, and today they are proud to announce that the company is already capable of making partnerships with various hardware manufacturers to ship Android PCs and 2-in-1 tablets with Remix OS pre-installed. What this means is that they will thus allow users to run Google's Android operating system on more devices as their primary desktop environment.

"2016 has been an incredibly exciting year for Jide Technology, highlighted by the launch of Remix OS for PC and the several quality partners that we have been fortunate to announce," said Jeremy Chau, Jide Technology CEO and co-founder. "Now, companies and brands that we have always admired are reaching out to us. It?s a win-win situation as we continue to push the capabilities of Android PCs."

But first, the Jide Technology team is happy to announce that Chih-Wei Huang, the founder of the Android-x86 open source project designed to port the latest Android operating to desktop PCs, has now officially joined the creators of Remix OS as the x86 Technology Lead. I've noticed that when I get a mail into that address, the sound is not played. When I go to Settings/Accounts and select Email, I can only see 2 of the three accounts (the one I'm not getting notifications for, is missing) SEE ATTACHMENT

However, when I then click on Settings, I can see all three.

It's official: Android N will be called Android Nougat

After teasing the announcement earlier, Google has formally announced the name of Android N, which will be Nougat.

Google first released the Android N Developer Preview back in March, but the company didn't formally announce it until its Google I/O developer conference in May. The firm then asked for users to submit feedback on what the name should be.

Android Nougat is expected to ship within the next couple months, but it's worth noting that the current version of Android, Marshmallow, is only on 10.1% of Android devices. Nougat certainly has its work cut out for it if it wants to gain significant traction.

The company didn't reveal the version number for the next iteration of its mobile OS, but it has been leaked that it will be Android 7.0 Nougat.

Google officially concludes Beta Program for Android Nougat; Android O Beta coming soon

Back in March 2016, Google released the "Android N" Developer Preview for a few supported devices. The aim of the program was to allow the company more time to incorporate developer feedback, and to submit the final version of the release to hardware manufacturers for early testing.

Google has now announced that the Android Nougat Beta Program is complete, and that a Beta for the next version of the operating system will be released soon.

Before the official release of Android 7.0 Nougat to the general public, five Developer Previews were seeded out to those willing to test early builds of the operating system on their devices. After the general rollout of the aforementioned iteration of Android, Google also released two versions of Android 7.1 to users in the Developer Preview.

However, now with "Android O" on the horizon, Google has concluded the Beta Program for Android Nougat, saying that:

Thank you for your interest in the Android Beta Program! The beta for Android Nougat has concluded, and all devices that were opted in have been updated to the current public version. If you are still running a beta version of Nougat you may download the latest full OTA image for your device and sideload it. This will not wipe your device. We'll update this site when the Android O Beta Program begins.

Today, September 13, 2016, Android-x86 developer Chih-Wei Huang was happy to announce the general availability of the final release of the Android-x86 6.0 operating system for personal computers.

Android-x86 6.0 has been in the works since early this year, and it received a total of two RC (Release Candidate) builds during its entire development cycle, one in June and another in August. After joining the Remix OS team, Chih-Wei Huang now has all the reasons to update and improve its Android-x86 system for the latest Android releases.

Therefore, as you might have guessed already, Android-x86 6.0 is the first stable version of the project to be based on Google's Linux kernel-based Android 6.0 Marshmallow mobile operating system, and includes the most recent AOSP (Android Open Source Project) security updates too.

"This is the first stable release of Android-x86 6.0 (marshmallow-x86)," reads today's announcement. "The 6.0-r1 release is based on the the Android Marshmallow-MR2 release (6.0.1_r66) with latest AOSP security updates. We created universal images for most x86 platforms."

Is it safe to move the Appdat/Roaming folders back up to Users?

Should .android be deleted, or is it a folder I just didn't notice before this and should remain?

I've been attempting to sync my Samsung Galaxy Centura to it using my usb cable so that I may transfer files from my android phone to the pc. Here's my problem.

* I've downloaded Samsung Kies for windows xp to my phone (pc has no internet connection yet)
* Connected usb cable to pc and computer.
* A message shows on pc that a new driver has been found but windows xp doesn't recognize it.

I've combed over reverting I could think of pertaining to this computer's make and model as well as everything pertaining to this android phone to locate a way to enable my pc to recognize my android and install the kies for windows yet come up empty handed.

Can I please get a step by step direction to sync this phone to my pc so I can transfer the Samsung Kies for windows file to my pc and install it, as well how to go about enabling the pc to recognize the device so I may transfer other files to it from my phone?

My friend donated the pc to my family so my children can utilize it for school projects, however she no longer resides in town (even so, she had someone set it up for her while in her use) and I'm a single aren't on fixed income, so taking it in to have someone show me or do it for me is completely out of question.

Please any assistance is GREATLY appreciated

Thank you in advance.

As samsung has setup a driver, its possible that the samsung memory cards can be seen as a harddrive on the PC

so if you goto computer - without the phone connected and then connect the phone - do you see any devices appear ?
if so what are they ?

Other examples are services/applications that aren't actually installed on your machine but you stream from the net.
