Preferred Solution: NB500-107 - no option in booting to USB Drive

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: NB500-107 - no option in booting to USB Drive

When you start your NB press please F12 to enter boot menu. Is USB option listed there?

Generally speaking Toshiba offers small tool for recovery image installation on USB stick. This bootable USB stick can be used for recovery image installation.
Have you created this USB stick in the past?

Out of curiosity: which OS do you want to install?

Hi everyone,

I've a mini laptop Toshiba NB-500 and I want to replace its HDD by a SSD.
I've selected the Toshiba Q Series Pro 128GB SATA III SSD, which I think is fully compatible with my computer.
My 2 questions for this forum are:

1. Is it true? Can I replace the HDD by the Toshiba SSD without problems?

2. Is there any accessory that allows me to connect the replaced HDD by means of a USB cable and keep it as an external HD?

Thank you for your support.

my email is [email protected]

A:NB500: 2 questions regarding SSD drive upgrade

You can use an SATA SSD drive in connection with NB500 since the notebook supports the SATA controller. But you will not get the full SATA III performance supported by this SSD drive. I guess the notebook?s controller supports only the SATA II capability.

If you want to use the old 2.5? HDD as an external USB HDD, I would recommend you to purchase an external SATA-to-USB enclosure. It would be the best solution to get the HDD connected to one of the USB ports

Didn't know where to post this, but this question concerns a problem with the CD-ROM drive not being read in the boot menu.

The only visible option in the boot menu is the Notebook Hard Drive and nothing else.

This problem prevents me from booting a Linux installation that is required for a class.

Could anyone provide a solution for me; or at the very least help me discover the problem?

Thanks in advance; any useful information is appreciated.

A:CD-ROM not available as a booting option

Does your CD drive function? Also, did you look in the BIOS setup and not only in the boot menu.

I have a windows XP computer, I wanted to try out vista so I made a new partition with a boot CD and then installed vista on that small partition but after a couple of days I booted again with the Boot CD and I deleted the small partition so now I only have XP on the computer,

But when I boot up the computer I still see the option of booting in 2 OS vista and earlier version of windows (XP) now if I click on vista, I am getting NO OS which is fine, but how can I take it down? I tried to Edit the BOOT.INI but I only see XP I don?t see any referents of vista, and I cannot use BCDEDIT.exe because I have XP so what should I do?

A:still see the option of booting in 2 OS???????

Hello deutschnaftula

Start>Run and type msconfig. On the boot.ini tab, click "Check all boot paths".

That should remove the dual boot option for you.

I just got a new motherboard and wanted to reformat one of my hard drives so I could actually get into Windows but when I boot from the disk the Windows Setup gives me no option to format or install Windows. It just starts loading files, then it restarts the computer. If I try to boot without the WinXP cd it starts to load windows then blue screens because I got a different motherboard than my hard drives are used to, even in safe mode it will crash and restart. The new motherboard I got is an ECS Elitegroup GF8200A Black Series, the old one is an ASRock ALive NF6G-VSTA. My processor is an AMD Phenom 9650, I have a 650 Watt PSU, an XFX GeForce 9600 GSO, and 4 GB of RAM. The HDD I am trying to reformat is an 80 gb Maxtor, my main is a 200 GB Seagate but I don't want to reformat that one because it has all of my things on it. Any help regarding either reformatting the one hard drive or making it possible for me to boot into Windows on my main hard drive to install the neessary drivers for this new motherboard would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for helping.

How did you set up the dual boot? If you used EasyBCD or similar in Windows 7 then the same should be able to change the default. If you used grub (more normal) in Ubuntu see an article such as this How do I change the GRUB boot order?.

Hello, I've been having a problem when booting my computer today. When it gets past POST and loads operating systems (Like if I were to dual boot linux and 7) it shows windows 7 twice. At first, it was because I was installing windows to my new SSD, and left the old install on my HDD, which I planned to format and use as data storage after everything was done. I tried to delete it from my HDD, but it wouldn't let me while in windows, so I used my DVD and formatted my HDD with that, and left my SSD as active partition with boot. Soon as I restarted the computer it said something like "Bootmgr missing press ctrl+alt+delete to restart" I did that, and used my disc again to repair it but now its back to having 2 different drives with both active on their list in disk management, and two windows 7 options at boot start.
(Disk 1 is my SSD and Disk 0 is my HDD)

What I want to know is, how can I delete system reserve from my HDD and put it on my SSD without having two windows 7 options (once again I formatted the HDD so it shouldn't even have windows on it.) and put the crash dump option on to the HDD. Also why both drives are showing up as active. Thanks in advance.

A:Double windows 7 option when booting.

You didn`t unplug disk 0 during the new install did you ?

Why do you want to put the SR partition on C ? C looks fine.

Hello all!
For months, my pc had no issue booting at the 230 option on my PSU. However, a few days ago I powered it down and it wouldn?t turn back on until I had switched it to 115. This wouldn?t be an issue, except now my USB microphone doesn?t work anymore because it draws too much power. Whenever I try to boot with 230 now, my pc goes on this endless cycle of trying to startup, and the fans speed up and slow down over and over and over again. It?s so annoying!

I've re-installed Windows using an OEM boot CD, and now I cannot get it to boot from the HDD. I have set the prioroty in the BIOS to HDD/CD/Floppy and Windows just gets stuck in a loop when trying to start ("loading personal settings" > "logging off" > "loading personal settings" etc.). It boots fine from the CD if I change the BIOS priority to CD/HDD/Floppy.

I cannot run the recovery program from the CD as it goes straight into the WinXP installation (I'd imagine due to being an OEM CD).

I had to re-install windows due to a virus attack, which I believe must have changed something in the boot registry. Any ideas please?

A:MBR Missing... No option to repair computer when booting from DVD

Here's How:
1. Boot your computer to the Windows 7 DVD (or to a "Repair CD"). At this screen choose to install now.

2. Select your language and click next.

3. Click the button for "Use recovery tools".

4. Then select "Command Prompt".

5. When open, the command prompt will look like this:

6. The command we will use, bootsect.exe, is in a folder (named boot) on the DVD.
We need to know what drive letter has been assigned the DVD drive to access the folder.

Code:
Type: diskpart
and press Enter
Type: select disk 0 (zero)
and press Enter
type: list volume
and press Enter
In this screen shot, the 7 DVD is letter: G

Yesterday I began the processing of migrating my C: drive contents to a newer larger SSD. i used Clonezilla to copy to the new hard drive. I thought everything had gone OK but it didn't (of course) . The new hard drive was recognized as the C: drive; the old hard drive was recognized, but only in Disc Manager and Windows would not boot unless i booted from the old SSD. Through a process of pretty much trial and error, I am now at the point where both drives are recognized. The new drive is C: and the old drive is now visible in Explorer as drive I. The old drive still has all it's original contents including Windows and needs to be reformatted (it's more than 90% full). The computer is booting from the C: drive as it should.

The only quirky thing which is happening now is that when I boot the computer, I'm given a choice of loading Windows Home Premium or Windows Home Premium (Recovered). If I do nothing the computer loads the former after 30 seconds...all is well.

Any idea why the "recovered" option is there, and how do i get rid of it?

Are you referring to the Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI)? I have never heard of HCAI as an acrnoym in computer terms. If you want to change from a RAID (dynamic) to basic disk it will require formatting the drives.

A:Toshiba NB500 freezing

There is no one reason why a computer would do this. I would start with general maintenance solutions.

Download CCleaner and run it to remove all temporary files. If you don't want to install anything, you could instead download TFC - Temporary File Cleaner. It runs without having to install anything.

Defrag the hard drive. Go to Computer, right-click your hard drive and select Properties. Go to the Tools tab and select "Defrag Now". Select Analyze first. If it is more than 5% fragmented, defrag it.

It could be caused by a virus. Download, update, and run Malwarebytes Anti-malware. If you don't have an anti-virus with real-time protection installed, consider installing Microsoft Security Essentials as well. It uses very little resorces.

Hi everyone,

So, 2 days ago i was in the middle of using my NB500 and suddenly the laptop turned off automatically. I tried turning it back on but it won't turn back on.

So here's what i've tried to fixed the problem:
- I've tried taking the battery out, while leaving the re-charger plugged into the laptop and tried turning it on but it won't turn on.
- I've tried taking the battery out and unplugging the re-charger from the laptop and holding down on the power button for 30 seconds then plugging back the re-charger and tried turning it on but it won't turn on.

Here's what i noticed about the laptop after this problem has occured.
-When i have the re-charger plugged in, the light which lights up orange when the re-charger is plugged charging the laptop isn't lighting up anymore when i have the re-charge plugged in. So this might indicate with the re-charger is broken or it's the laptop. But it's likely to be the laptop because when i was last using it with charger plugged into the laptop , the laptop suddenly shut down for no reason. So it can' tbe the fact that the laptop is out of battery.
-When every time i hold down the power button for 5 seconds with the battery still in the laptop then let go of the power button, the green light which lights up when the laptop is on does a quick flash.

So, if anyone knows how to solve this problem please help me out.

A:NB500 does not turn on anymore

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there. We can just speculate about the problem and this hardware related issue.
I cannot say for sure but for me it sounds like power supply electronic problem (mainboard).

I’m afraid you will not be able to solve this issue alone. Contact nearest Toshiba service, explain the situation and ask for help.

Well i have a toshiba nb500-12c that i didn't use for a long time because the screen was broken, recently my other laptop (toshiba nb250-10h) started to get some big lags, the cpu overheats and gets to 60-70 degrees en 15 minutes and there is no solution, i tried to clean the dust and everything but its no use.

So what i did was replace the screen from my nb-250 to my nb-500, when i started the nb-500 the screen worked fine, but i was prompted a bios password, i wasn't ever asked for a bios password before and i had no idea what it was because i didnt ever put any in the first place and the laptop came without any bios password configured, looking some tutorials on the internel i managed to bypass the bios password, restarted the latop and now its asking me for the hdd password, there wasnt even an hdd password configured, i have no idea why its asking me for these passwords and windows cant boot, eveytime i turn on the laptop, toshiba logo appears and it follows to a blue screen asking for a hdd/Sdd password.

I readed tutorials that said putting a blank password in the bios resets the password but it doesnt work... im stuck.. can anyone help me with this?

A:NB500-12C - HDD is blocked by password

Hello

It is very stupid situation now. To be honest I don't know what to say but I use different notebooks since 15 years now and it is not known to me that BIOS and especially HDD password can be set from alone.
In the past I have disassembled several machines and have changed different hardware components like HDD, RAM, WLAN modules, even mainboard exchange but I’ve never noticed that BIOS was blocked/secured by password from alone. For me it is definitely not possible.

As I can see you have made some progress using different methods that you found on the net. Maybe you have done something wrong and now is HDD blocked. Problem is that HDD password will be written on the HDD directly and if you don't have the right password you will not be able to have access to it.

Sorry but I don't believe anyone here will be able to help you.

I have a Mini-Notebook, NB500-108, running Windows 7, and it never had battery issues until now.
For some reason, battery stopped charging at 99%, then at 98% and now at 97%.
Tray icon says "plugged in, charging" but it never reaches 100%.

Besides that, the led light never changes from orange to green, like it used to do before.
That is annoying because I can't see if battery is totally charged when the machine is turned off.

I've already tried a lot of suggestions in order to recalibrate battery:
1. Flashing BIOS;
2. Uninstall/disable Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method in Device Manager;
3. Full discharge/full charge;
4. Half discharge/full charge;
5. Removed the battery and pressed power button for 10, 20, 30 seconds...;
6. System restore;
7. Same beahaviour with a Linux live pen.

None of this worked. Any comments on this, Toshiba Support?

Toshiba Support? This is a user-to-user forum dude? you will get some comments from community members ;)

I think it could be a faulty battery?since lithium batteries would start losing the own performance after being charged for 400-500 times, I would assume that your battery is affected? it?s just a theory but I think it?s worth to test a new part

My brother just bought a Toshiba NB500, its a Notebook running in Windows 7 Starter. And he saw a website that says that the battery capacity can be more or less 8hrs. Then he wants to customize his settings to make it. He already put to the lowest possible level the brightness settings. but it only takes 3hrs.

what would be the best possible solution to this? are there still settings that have to be changed?

Any suggestions are welcome!

A:What are the Proper settings for longer battery life in Toshiba NB500?

Is the computer on power saving mode in the windows control panel? The dimmer the display and the lower the max cpu usage is, the more life you get. However, there is a balance. Too low and you can't see the desktop (too dark) and everything runs really slow (set cpu max usage too low). Also, the less programs you have running in the background, the more power you will save. You could delete everything from the startup folder (it will not remove the programs themselves). This will keep programs from running right as you start the computer.

I have not seen this video myself, but it might be helpful: Power management - Windows 7 features - Microsoft Windows ps. it requires silverlight to run. There should be youtube videos on this subject and other places already on the internet that may go more in depth on how to save more power, you should look them up.

You can set the computer to fall asleep after 10 minutes or less to save more power during in-activity. all sorts of things, take a look in the advaced power options in your computer.

From my out-of-work PC 800 Scaleo Fujitsu-Siemens (Motherboard/RIMM RAM issues not yet sorted out) I have occasionally to retrieve files from its 60GB HD connected as Drive G:\ via 3.5" External Drive Enclosure to laptop VAIO VGN-FS285M.

My question:

I) Is it possible to have the full content of this external drive as G:\ either downloaded\transferred into VAIO Drive D:\ (43GB) currently almost empty and operate this HD in a dual booting system with VAIO Drive C:\ or

II) leaving all the folders as they are as drive G:\ but being able to select this drive as alternative to drive C:\ ?

In other words, when booting VAIO before going straight into Windows XP I'd like to have the black screen offering me the OS selection.

I understand that switching from one OS into another without first logging out and in again could also be possible. In this case both OS's are Windows XP Home Edition+SP2 +all updates.

Any conclusive help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

A:(Resolved) External Drive WXP onto VAIO drive D:\ as dual booting system or...

The XP license for the Siemens is not transferable (OEM versions cannot be transferred).

My computer is old (but I love it). And recently I hear funny clicking noises from my C drive and it cannot always be accessed. I have win2k installed on drive C and winxp on another physical hard drive D. I am using only winxp on D.

If tomorrow my C drive is dead, will I still be able to boot xp on drive D? I read that the boot file is always on C. So if that is a problem, how can I fix it before C dies?

After I once attached another hard drive, containing another install of windows 7, and (accidentally!) booted from it, I cannot boot from my original drive. Even though I have now disconnected the other drive, every time I try to boot from my original drive, it fails, and I see:

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Bot device and press a key

How can I get my computer to boot off of my original drive? And why would once booting from another drive screw up my original drive??

Also, if it's of any use / help - my new motherboard is a UEFI-enabled one, an ASUS Z77 Sabertooth...

--------------------------

For some background - I purchased a new motherboard recently, and decided to just install a fresh copy of windows 7 when I did so. I purchased and installed to a new hard drive... everything was working fine - it was booting, starting up, etc. Then, I decided I wanted to grab some files off of my old drive - so I shut the computer down, hooked it up using an enclosure + an esata cable, then restarted... on startup, it recognized my old (now external) drive, and booted off of that. I then restarted my computer, checked the boot options, and set it so it SHOULD boot off my new (internal)... but it still booted off my old (external) drive. Finally, I disconnected my old (external) drive completely... and that brings us to where I began: with my new (internal) drive completely unable to boot.

A:Can't Boot from orig. drive after attaching/booting from other drive

Ok, I guess I solved my own problem... going to post in case anybody else has a similar issue...

I got it to boot by setting the boot priority of the "Windows Boot Manager" BEFORE the priority of my DVD-drive. I guess I'll have to manually go into my BIOS to change the settings every time I want to boot of a CD/DVD. Annoying... but it works, I guess...

Hi, one of my clients is running a windows XP machine with sp 2. He is running a custom software which needs an ODBC connection to connect to its database which is on the remote server. Now whenever I go to the ODBC click on the network button it says that the networking service is not responding. So I tried to map the network drive and then access it as local through ODBC. But when I try to do that the map network drive option is not available to me. So there is no way I can do the ODBC connection. Also I can ping to the server but if I give the ip address of the server it gives an error saying check the spelling if typed properly....blah blah. But from the server if I try to access this machine it is accessible. Please if somebody could help me. Its urgent..
Thanks guys

i am using xp professional sp2.....and recently installed "20X DVD-RW from LG"....when i right click on this drive only EJECT option is there....so please tell how to set both LOAD and EJECT option for this drive.......
E-mail:[email protected]

A:No load option in dvd drive..........

Presumably the other options such as Open, Explore, Properties, etc. are there.
If you use the Eject function it will open the drive. So will the button on the drive.
I've never seen an option to Load after right-clicking on a PC optical drive.
You just insert the disk, press the button on the drive, the drawer closes and the drive spins up.

Hi,
I'm trying to get Windows 10 on a 3TB HDD (2.7TB Ptn). The BIOS is in UEFI mode, but I am unable to add any boot options. The USB key for installing Windows 10 was made with Rufus and supports UEFI-based computers. The 3TB HDD is already configured as a GPT drive with the required 4 partitions. Windows setup will only boot in BIOS mode despite me taking the bootmgr file(s) off of the install USB key. In the BIOS, when I try to add ANY UEFI boot option, I get an immediate "File System Not Found" error, so I can't do that. How do I get this to work, or does the OptiPlex 990 not support 3TB drives? The latest BIOS is installed as well.
Thanks

A:GPT Drive as a boot option for an OptiPlex 990

The 990 is Class 1 BIOS not UEFI Class 2.31 bios.
For older systems WDC uses an OEM Highpoint Rocket 600 PCI-E controller.

Western Digital Handles this with a PCI-E Host Adapter HighPoint Rocket 620 card.

This is why Western Digital Gets around this by using a HOST BUS ADAPTER on non UEFI systems.
3TB and LARGER drives Requires 64 bit CPU, BIOS, OS.  AND GUID Boot Code with the latest INTEL Rapid Storage Drivers (F6)  or 3rd party Card that does GPT Booting.  32 bit generic boot code in the MBR cannot support 3TB.
GPT allows for a maximum disk and partition size of 9.4 zettabytes. Most current operating systems support GPT, although some operating systems (including Mac OS X and Windows) only support booting from GPT partitions on systems with EFI hardware aka the "BIOS" to boot can be in an addon Controller.
The MBR BIOS partition table restricts partition sizes to a maximum of 2.19 terabytes or almost exactly 2 TiB (2,199,023,255,040 bytes or 4,294,967,295 (232−1) sectors × 512 (29) bytes per sector).
Western Digital Does this with a GX620 and a PCI-E Card with Boot Rom.
Since most current systems don't yet support UEFI standards, WD is providing an interim solution for those who want to ... Read more

I go to watch a DVD on my computer today, attempting to open it directly through Windows Media Player, and the option "view DVD/ play CD" isn't highlighted. I've rebooted several times. It isn't in "My Computer" either and the D drive isn't in the list when I browse the "Run" option. It's gone and I hadn't even done anything to my computer/ downloaded anything new! HELP!

A:My computer no longer has a D drive option

Download CDgone, right click on the downloaded file and choose Extract All, then double-click on cdgone.reg Say "Yes" to the merge question and then reboot. See if the drives have returned. You may have to re-install CD burning applications, since they're the ones that tinker with the filter setting in the registry that caused the drives to disappear.

Hi,

It sounds as if you need some type of context menu editor. I'm not sure if Brink has covered this in one of his tutorials, but you could try this:

ContextEdit Download - Softpedia

I've not used so it, so you do so at your own risk. I'm also not sure if you can remove the Format command from the context menu.

Good luck,

Hi Support,

So I've been using Windows Built in Backup tools on my Win7 machine no problems. Now I bought new laptop with Windows 8 Professional 64bit on it and want to setup/backup a new, fresh out of the box Windows System Image.
When I press Set up backup I am given an option to choose destination BUT I do not have an option for Network Drive. It is just simply NOT there

I am reading and googling and I can see print screens with that option available, but not on my machine? What could be the problem?

I am using a LaCie D2 Network2 NAS. Which is fully accessible through Network. I can browse files, I can ping it, I can Stream Media from it no problem.

Please help? As I will start Installing Stuff on Laptop and it won't be fresh System Image Backup anymore

Thanks

I've done a search on this but could not find the answer...Therefore, I need your advice.

I have a Compaq M700 notebook. I've purchased a multibay adapter to use in my multibay port to house a second hard drive.

My question here, is which hard drive would you purchase (other than a compaq hard drive)?

Your help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.
