Video card driver causes BSOD! Help please

Q: Video card driver causes BSOD! Help please

Well here is the deal. Back in december the BSOD first appeared when I was playing BF2. Since then I updated the hard drive and it still remained. So, today I disabled my video card to find which card's driver is the culprit and its the video. Here's the confusing part, I updated the nvidia 6600 gt driver and still the BSOD remains. What do I do??? Thanks

Preferred Solution: Video card driver causes BSOD! Help please

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Video card driver causes BSOD! Help please

what makes you so sure it's a driver issue?

I think you have a RAM problem or a weak PSU

Post your full system specs (be specific), also, tell us what error code you get with the BSOD

I've just built a new computer last friday and i've had some problems with it BSODing.

It seems to have problems when playing games and starting videos on youtube or w/e.
When it crashes it won't reboot normally until i leave it off for about 5 min. It reboots fine in safe mode every time. This seems like a lack of cooling to the video card at first but i have run some stress tests that put the video card temp leveling out at 80?C.

I've installed and reinstalled the newest drivers, however, sometimes when i reboot windows will have a pop up bubble that says my driver version (266.58) has stopped responding but successfully recovered. This message pops up while my screen is flickering in and out.

I didn't know how to upload the perfmon/report html file because either i'm dumb or the directions aren't very clear.

These are some of the errors i have been having. They seem to be pretty consistent after a crash.

A:BSOD: problems with video card driver?

Start by reseating your graphics card; make sure it's in securely. If that doesn't work, do you have any other cards you could try? If you have onboard graphics, give them a try; if not, try to borrow a card from a friend.

There is a January 2011 version of your graphics drivers out; try uninstalling your current drivers in Device Manager, and then installing these ones: NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.58 WHQL

Hello jessebrownarrow, unfortunately Your uploaded files contained no dump files, which are what we use to debug systems. Please make sure your system is configured for Small Memory dumps. This will tell you how, Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD Next make sure there is a folder named Minidump in C:/Windows. If not, please create one.

In your error reporting I did notice quite a few errors in ClicktoRun.exe and InDesign.exe. You may start looking at those programs and see if they are updated and configured correctly. Those errors may be the source of your problems.

If you think your video card drivers are causing the problem, please reinstall them like this.

I am going to give you some links that will help you get a good clean install and not have any drivers you don't need that will conflict with other drivers. Download a WHQL driver from Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7 . Once you have them downloaded, uninstall you current driver from control panel. next clean up any left over drivers from following this tutorial Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling and select only ATI Display Drivers. After you have done that and rebooted, install the new driver, only select custom install and install only what you have to. Very few people need most of what they include. You do not need the audio/HDMI drivers as you already have that in your Motherboard drivers. Unless there is some reason you need them, the only thing you really need is th... Read more

A:BSOD While starting games and updating video card driver

Stop 0x124 is a hardware error

If you are overclocking try resetting your processor to standard settings and see if that helps.

If you continue to get BSOD here are some more things you may want to consider.

This is usually heat related, defective hardware, memory or even processor though it is"possible" that it is driver related (rare).

Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.
Generic "Stop 0x124" Troubleshooting Strategy:

1) Ensure that none of the hardware components are overclocked. Hardware that is driven beyond its design specifications - by overclocking - can malfunction in unpredictable ways.
2) Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled.
If there is any doubt, open up the side of the PC case (be mindful of any relevant warranty conditions!) and point a mains fan squarely at the motherboard. That will rule out most (lack of) cooling issues.
3) Update all hardware-related drivers: video, sound, RAID (if any), NIC... anything that interacts with a piece of hardware.
It is good practice to run the latest drivers anyway.
4) Update the motherboard BIOS according to the manufacturer's instruct... Read more

So I've owned this alienware m17x r3 (Intel Core i7-2670QM // Radeon HD 6870M // 4 GB DDR3) for about 5 months now, and just recently it has started crashing immediately on startup, either when it reaches the login page for windows or soon after. There is no BSOD, I've used WhoCrashed and made sure dump files are enabled and nothing comes up. I've tried installing several different versions of AMD's drivers for the HD 6870M I have but none work. I've run a system diagnostic test through advanced startup options and there are no errors.

It works fine with no drivers installed or if I boot in safe mode, but I am at my wit's end here trying to get my system back in to working order. I've already tried reinstalling a fresh version of windows 7, and fully cleaning my drivers and reinstalling them and nothing is a permanent fix. I have gotten 2 blue screens, both of which were 0x7E, with the cause being the C:\Windows\system32\drivers\atikmpag.sys file, but as I am just learning the ropes of this stuff I have no idea where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

I have an e Machine T-series with Ati Radeon xpress 200 series. recently the borders and text in any window started becoming very "fuzzy looking", making it very difficult to read text.. A:Updating video driver vs replacing video card

if this has degraded overtime and was not fixed with a restore of the system it's probably a hardware issue and won't be fixed by a driver update. Have you checked to be sure it's not the monitor? Do you have another video card you can try just to see if that fixes the issue?

A:bsod video scheduler and attempt to reset video card

Lets start with Driver Verifier

Verifier puts extreme stress on the drivers, bad ones will cause BSOD. If we change all those drivers we hope for no more BSODs, If you get no BSODs, then its not a driver and we look to hardware. With verifier on your computer may be a little laggy, but actually..its just doing its work.Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Driver Verifier runs in the background, "testing" drivers for bugs. If it finds one, a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) will result; the corresponding dump file will hopefully show the faulty driver.

Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation.

I'm working with a Dell Dimension C521 PC. It came with a PCI-Express video card which apparently has failed, yet the motherboard itself has on-board video. The system will boot using this video output (as opposed to the card which produced nothing) but when it finally gets to windows the auto-detect driver routine kicks in and begins to detect the video card, prompting the user to "Continue Anyway" to finish installing unsigned drivers. Unfortunately this event takes place in front of the installation of the USB keyboard and mouse (times like these I wish it had PS/2 ). Anyway, whether I boot up into Safe Mode or normal a prompt comes up about installing drivers for the on-board chipset. I can't interact with it because the driver install routine for the keyboard/mouse becomes interrupted.

A:Dell Dimension C521; USB key/mouse driver load interrupted by video card driver load

Bump. I've been thinking... the only way I think this can be fixed is if I boot from a Linux CD or something similar and delete a particular set of drivers for this video card. It can't prompt you to install any drivers if they don't exist, right? But I don't know where to go to delete such files and prevent them from automatically trying to install themselves. Any ideas?

Okay. I am having some trouble with my video card and need to decide which video card to use and where to get the driver for it.

I have a Dell with XP home with an onboard video card and it is broken. Long story about that. I have room to add a video card and it works but just not for my Flight Sim?

I have four options on video cards pulled from older machines and want some advice on which to use and where to get the driver?

1st: S3 Trio 3D/2x

2nd: S3 Trio64V+

3rd: 3DFX

4th: Unable to identify really no markings on it besides serial numbers and such.

Thanks for the help.

A:Video Card and Driver???

They're all terribly old and won't run any modern game at all or very poorly.

The 3DFX would be the best but thats nots saying much, the 4th card may be better but you'd need to identify it.

Welcome SteelGuy!

It's a bit easier to read posts if you'll drop to lower case.

And no, by simply downloading a driver update, it doesn't automatically pick up and install....it needs a little help from you.

When you download drivers, usually, it's a zip file, or an .exe file.

When you downloaded it, where did you tell the computer to save it? If you can't remember, download it again, and this time choose to save it to the desktop....makes it easier to find.

If it has a .zip at the end, you'll need a program called winzip to unzip it....if it is just and .exe at the end, double click it on your desktop, and the installation program should take over.

BTW, if it is a .zip file, double click that too, if you don't have winzip, you'll find out real soon. You can download it from here if the file doesn't automatically open up in winzip:

sure, I can help. However, I will need you to do this for me, in order to let me know more about your system: New to SevenForums? Fill out your system specs (this tool may help you out a great deal).

From what I've gathered so far, I can only guess you have a dell computer and link you to this site (for you to look it up yourself): http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/...oductSelection

After you give me the information I need, I will gladly help you find a more precise driver for your specific needs

ps. from what it looks like, your computer may be very old and not entirely supported with a windows 7 driver, and i'm not even sure if it has a windows xp driver. you might try letting dell automatically search your computer for the right driver for your needs (if, of course, you have a dell).

I am a bit lost, but trying to fix my friends computer. Thought he just had some crazy virus, but I think it is a driver problem, or a failing video card. Not real good with Vista, so here I am.

He told me it was powering down within 5 minutes of booting up. I have had it up over 24 hours atm. However, the VGA input does not display my monitor. It "detects" it, as I hear a noise when I plug it in, but no display. For some video game, he has a DVI to VGA adapter. This allows me to get my monitor to work on his 2 DVI outputs. He also has an s-video output, but short of my televisions in another room, I dont have anything s-video to test it on. Is there and driver that controls just the VGA input, can his video card be failing but still have the other 2 inputs (not counting the s-video, which is unchecked) be failing, or is it a "broken" VGA input (pins loose inside, or connection problem)

Just want to know if there is any fix before I crack it open and start poking around.

Thanks a lot, hope everyone is not too bloated from all the turkey yesterday!

What investigations have you done for virus/ malware?I am not sure if you actually see anything when the card is connected to the display. Are you saying the "Pins loose inside, or connection problem" is a fact?Have you tried the other ports (VGA & s-video) on your TV?So, what are the real symptoms & facts? Make, model, Vista version (SP) & Video drivers if you can etc.

PS. I'm not so "Bloated" as I'm in UK.

Does anyone know how to find out what kind of video card one has in their computer other than looking at it physically/checking in the device manager? I can't find the name of it on the actual piece it self, and in the device manager it list's:
ES1869 Control Interface (WDM)
-I have no idea what website I could go too to get the updated drivers for this. I really want to get updated drivers...16 colors and 640 X 480 is really rough. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance.

A:Help With Video Card Driver Please?

ES1869 is an audio adapter, check under display adapters in device manager. If you can't find it there open up the computer and physically look at the video card for a name and model number.

Usually the most current driver for your version of Windows.

At times, the one that works Sometimes newer isn't always better. If it's not broken, don't try to fix it

Hi There

I have an ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M SERIES video card in my laptop and the version date is 5/7/2005.

My children have loaded The Sims Deluxe and Sims Superstar Expansion Pack onto this laptop and unfortunately we are experiencing some problems. Upon contacting the technical help guys for the game they tell me my video card needs updating.

According to the device manager the version i have is the latest - according to scans there are newer versions ....... i'm now totally confused.

I am admitting to being a useless female with regards to this and need some help please - if anyone knows where i can download an update free from please please let me know.

many thanks

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102061 That is the card. I just installed the drivers on the disc it came with. But I would like the better/newer one. Where should I look? When I go to the ATI site, it sends me here. http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/common-vista32

Is that what I need? The driver suite? Or the suite and the driver?

A:Where/what driver should I get for my video card?

Hardware accelerated Direct3D 9+ is not available because the display driver does not support it. You may be able to get a newer driver from the hardware manufacturer.

I went to ATI's website and downloaded the most recent driver but im not sure i got the right one. how do i know if i have the right driver. or if thats the problem at all?

A:Video card Driver

Uninstall your old driver first.

Run the Catalyst Uninstaller.

Use one of these to remove any remaining ATI drivers:

Nasty File Remover
Driver Cleaner Professional

Download the Catalyst 5,10 driver (25.3 MB) and install it:

A:Video Card driver help please!

Only if you have a graphic card and monitor that supports 64 bit color, otherwise there will be no difference. Most graphic cards and monitors can only display up to 32 bit color, some will only support up to 24 bit color.

Because both graphic card and monitor must support 64 bit color or it will still just display as 32 bit.

Only professional computer graphic designers use 64 bit color since it is very expensive to buy both the graphic cards and monitors that support it. They use computer programs to distinguish the color depth.

For most people their eyes can only distinguish a maximum of 32-bit color depth. Anything higher bit is invisible to most people they still will only see 32-bit even if a higher color depth is available.

Bottom line is that no matter what, we can only see what the programmers have made available, so if they used a 32 bit color scheme, having 64 bit color capability will not make any difference at all.
