Outlook 2007 inbox has become sub folder of deleted items folder

Q: Outlook 2007 inbox has become sub folder of deleted items folder

User came in with a receiving email issue and to make a long story short I found that his inbox and all subfolders including sent, junk ect. are subfolders of the trash folder.(deleted Items) I tried to back up, clean(glary utils) and reinstall but the backup reordered the folders the way they were. I will uninstall again and hand build the folders and subs if need be but I was hoping someone here might know a fix before I spend 2 or more hours creating and moving from imported folders (home based company with 33000+ emails)

Any ideas appreciated.

Also noteworthy is that Norton failed after the hearbleed patch and had to be completely removed and reinstalled. the reinstallation of Norton was AFTER trying to repair Outlook.

Preferred Solution: Outlook 2007 inbox has become sub folder of deleted items folder

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I deleted the "Deleted Items" folder in Outlook 2007 and I can't seem to find out how to reinstall it, any ideas?

A:Outlook 2007 "Deleted Items" folder

Deleting that folder should not even be an option....I would just like to know how you did that.

Probably the only way is to create a new personal folder which will have a Deleted Items in it. Go to the tools then email accounts. go to your account and look for the folders tabs. remnae the existing personal folder "old personal folder". Then create the new folder. Then go back to the outlook interfacetransfer you e-mails over to the new personal folder. Once your sure everything is moved over delete the "old folder".

Remember in Outlook 2003, when you flagged an item (for follow-up) and then deleted, it showed up in your Deleted folder with the red flag next to it? Well, the 2007 version automatically removes the flag once it's been deleted. How can I keep the deleted item flagged?

What you are telling us, is that you really do not want to delete this file?
Then what you need to do is make a "Holding" folder and place items there until you really want to delete them.

I have my systems set up, the the "Deleted" folder is emptied on exit of Outlook.

I have several folders in my inbox, and one of them is now missing. When I run a search of all outlook locations, the files show up and show the folder, but I can't access the folder anywhere.

Has anyone else had this problem, and do you have a cure?

A:Solved: Can't find a folder in Outlook 2007 inbox

Could be a corrupt user profile. Try going to the exact location of the folder you "can't find" and making a copy of it, then going to where the folders you can find are and pasting a copy in there.
If that doesn't work you may need to make a new profile.

I'm having a problem with Outlook 2007 that's been bothering me for some time now. After I installed Business Contact Manager the Inbox folder is not showing new messages anymore. I mean, when new mail arrives the Inbox folder won't display the new messages, and I'm forced to click on any other folder and then back to Inbox in order to refresh it. Also the systray new mail indicator is not displaying anything at all.

I have confirmed that this problem is caused by the Business Contact Manager Add-in, because when I disable it, things go back to normal. I've been googling and searching for solutions, and I tried all the possible ones I found, with no success. What I tried so far is:

- Downloaded and applied Business Contact Manager SP1
- Checked for firewall problems: windows firewall is off and I uninstalled every other firewall
- I enabled the "Customer Experience Improvement Program"
- I performed a "Repair" on Office 2007

None of the above worked.

Please, can anyone give me more ideas to find a solution for this annoying problem?

Your help will be appreciated.

Usually in outllook express if someone you know is e-mailig you and it goes right to the deleted box not the inbox then you have somehow put them into the blocked senders list. Can you help?

I don't use Outlook Express, but can you right click and add this person to the "safe senders list"? I know you said they weren't in the blocked senders list . . . but you know how computers are sometimes.

It would be a simple thing to try before moving on to other options.

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums

DBXtract will extract all the emails that you have deleted - not just the ones you see in the OE folder but whatever is on your hard drive. Read about it here and download. Donation freeware.

Once you have gotten all the emails and are satisfied, then the DELETED ITEMS.DBX file can be erased. Once you erase that, all the emails sitting in the folder (in OE) will also be erased and you should be able to access all your folders.

With XP, the DBX files are hidden files. To find the location, in OE click Tools, Options. Then on the Maintenance Tab click the Store Folder button. Close OE. Open Windows Explorer to that location and delete the Deleted Items.DBX file. When you open OE the next time, it will automatically create a brand new DBX file.

When I delete an email in Outlook 2003, it doesn't move the deleted items to the recycle bin (deleted items folder). It will give me the prompt, "Are you sure you want to permanently delete the selected items?" If i click 'yes,' the email will not be moved to the deleted items folder where I could recover it, it is just totally gone. Basically when I delete an email from the Inbox, it skips the 'Deleted Items' folder all together. How do I get deleted emails to show up in the 'Deleted Items' folder first, before they are permanently deleted.

I'm aware of the Tools>Options>Other Tab "Empty the Deleted Items folder upon exiting" check box, and it is unchecked, besides my problem is not upon exiting Outlook.

Hi route66

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Have you tried creating a new Personal Folder and seeing if the same behavior exists in the new Personal Folder as well?

If it does, try creating a new Profile.
If it doesn't, then you can make the new Personal Folders the default Personal Folders.
You can then either copy the folders from the old Personal Folders into the new Personal Folders or keep two Personal Folders open in Outlook 2003.

You can have several Personal Folders open in Outlook 2003.

Create a new Personal Folder (.pst) file and make it the default delivery location.

File > New > Outlook Data File
Name the new .pst file.
It should open in Outlook 2003.

Copy a message over to the Inbox of the new Personal Folders and see if the deletion process works properly in the new Personal Folders.
**To make the new Personal Folders the default delivery location:

Tools > E-mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail accounts
In the drop down field for: Deliver new e-mail to the following location:
Select the new Personal Folders (.pst) file.

Close and restart Outlook 2003 for the changes to go into effect.

With Outlook 2003 closed, create a new Profile,
Control Panel > Mail Icon
Change the selection to: Prompt for a Profile to be used

Show Profiles > Add

Hello All,

I am in desperate need of some assistance and if anyone can help it would be much appreciated!

We are running Exchange 2007.

One of our staff members is using Outlook 2007 and has contacted us because their 'Sent Items' folder has "dissapeared" from there navigation tree view which is very odd. This is also the case on OWA which accesses the server directly and is a true image of the mailbox.

Now the strange thing is that when you search the users e-mail address in 'All Mail Items' and sort the list by 'From' they are all displayed and you can also add the collum 'In Folder' and it shows 'Sent Items'.

I have been searching Google for the passed few days and the closest I have come is to open the 'Sent Items' folder using the following workaround.... Click 'View', highlight 'Toolbars' and select 'Web', in the new toolbar field type "outlook:sent items" without quotes. This shows the 'Sent Items' folder as expected but it does not display in the Navigation tree view.

Both these methods prove that all the Sent Items are present and in the mailbox but appear to be hidden from the navigation view in both Outlook and OWA.

Below are the steps I have tried so far to no avail:

- Re-created the Outlook profile on another machine
- Connected to the mailbox via IMAP
- Disabled Cache Mode within Outlook
- Exported mailbox to .PST and opened within Outl... Read more

Couple questions.

1) Are you using Full Outlook or Outlook express?
2) Do the times in the deleted folder have any weird tagging on them (in the subject line)?
3) Is this connecting to an exchange server (like at work) or are you just using this for personal emails. (ie what email address are you getting email on )
4) do you remember any thing that you did recently in changing settings/ installing any new software, etc. . .

I just switched from POP to IMAP for Outlook 2007. I see that there was a thread about my issue prior that is closed.

I delete a message and then it puts the strikeout line and then since I have it set to "Group message for deletion" it groups the deleted message at the bottom. Problem is they end up being deleted and are not in any trash or deleted folder.

I want to be able to manually delete them as I still refer back. Can you tell me how to set it up so that they go into a trash/deleted folder and stay there until I delete them?

When I drag a contact to the inbox it doesn't move there, instead it starts a new message with that contact in the (To) field, smae thing happens when I drag a contact to any folder (Calendar = Meeting request, Tasks = Task request... etc)

The only place where the conact went is the deleted items so maybe this is where it was dragged.

Could anyone please assist me with a bit of code I can drop into a sub in MS Outlook 2007 to do two things?

I want to firstly group my inbox items by day and then secondly count the items (not concerned about counting unread within the group as I use automatic formatting to highlight unread items anyway), so I can see how many items per day I still need to look at.

I am currently using the built in function of Arrange by Date, which groups them into "Today", "Yesterday", "Last Week", etc. What I really want is to be able to group them by each day, however far back they go.

I found a bit of code but it does weird things so I don't think it's all correct. The code updates the UserProperties fields from what I can gather and applies it to existing items in your inbox. You can then add in this extra field - called DayRecieved - and group by it, which at first appeared to do the job.

What I saw however, is that the DayReceived sets all the items to a date of the day received, but converts all of the times to 00:00, which is not helpful. In addition new emails come through with no DayReceived on them at all, so Outlook can't understand this new field and gives everything no date at all. I can still use the standard "Received" field so I know when the email came in, but I really want to be able to do this grouping by day and counting the items.

Below is the code I found and have applied:

These problems developed recently:
When try to empty deleted items folder, I get a message that outlook.pst is in use by another application. Close any application that is using this file and try again. Well, there is no other application using that file. Apparently, there is one email in the deleted items folder that is plugging up the folder. I can open the deleted items folder, right click on emails in there and delete them, but one email, which had an attachment from a web site does not respond. Right clicking on that email won't even bring up a menu.
The other error message I get is if I go to inbox or tasks and use find to search for a word, I get a message " The message interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook." Restarting Outlook doesn't help. The things I have tried without success are 1) removed & reinstalled Outlook, 2) ran search & repair,3) ran scanpst.exe against outlook.pst, and 4) tried to empty and find in safe mode.

Hello. About a week ago, in my Hotmail account, all my Inbox messages suddenly began to be 'diverted' straight into my Deleted folder, though (thankfully!) they weren't actually deleted.

(I checked my filter options and found that these were normal (low), and that in any case messages were going into my Deleted folder, not into the Junk one used by the filter. As far as I can see, the limited Hotmail options don't give any direct control over this.)

Then, a few days ago, messages began to come again into my Inbox: but they would remain only for a period, before being diverted to my Deleted folder, as before.

Any help sorting this out would be much appreciated!

PS: This malfunction seems to have affected the Outlook Express access to my Hotmail account too: since I've had this problem with my Hotmail Inbox messages, OE hasn't downloaded any messages from my Hotmail Inbox at all, even when I know that messages are there. When the OE Send and Receive button is clicked, OE searches and authenticates etc, but even when I know a message was in my Hotmail Inbox at that moment, nothing appears in my OE Inbox. Then when I go back to Hotmail, I find the message that was in my Inbox has moved to the Deleted folder! (Whilst this problem persists I have configured OE to leave a copy of messages on the server.)

Hi Wolfman01, is there any rule for all of your incoming mails? Are you using rules in Incredimail?

I am unable to right click and empty my deleted items folder. When I do, it simply deletes one email, not the entire folder. I have tried a system restore to a few days ago when I know it worked.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi tsmama and welcome to Vista Forums

It sounds like you could possibly have a Stuck Message in this folder. Follow the instructions in this Tutorial: Windows Mail problems
In particular, refer to the section indicated:

I use Outlook Express mail server. Beginning several days ago, each time I receive mail from a friend who uses SBCGlobal mail, it arrives in my Deleted Items box--not in my Inbox. She told me that no other of her correspondents experience this problem with mail from her. As a test, she sent a message to my secondary mail server, Yahoo, and it arrived as it should--in the Inbox. Mail from a couple of others who use SBCGlobal, and mail from all other people, using several other mail programs, arrives in my OE Inbox.

I am mystified. Something is wrong with my mail program, but why only with mail from one sender? Does anyone have an idea for a fix?

I suspect you have a filter set on the host mail server. Check your settings.

One of my Outlook users is experiencing numerous problems. He?s running XP Pro SP2 on a Core Duo laptop with 2GB RAM. Outlook 2007 was installed over 2003 ? the outlook.pst was originally created in 2003. At some point a while back (over a year ago), he created an archive, but then archiving stopped working, so he just kept letting his main personal folder grow. It got up to about 1.8GB. Outlook is supposed to be able to handle that, but he called me when his Outlook performance started to suffer.

Found an Outlook 2007 update that supposedly fixes performance issues with large .pst files, but he already had newer versions of the files listed in the update. Tried having him do an archive. It failed without moving any items ? Outlook didn?t give details except saying it had failed in several different folders. Noticed that the archive.pst was about 800MB, thought maybe he was having trouble working with 2 large files at the same time. Created a new .pst to archive to, tried again. Got part way through before Outlook said it failed again, without more details. It seemed to have moved some items before failing this time, but not nearly as much as it should have based on the date he chose in the ?archive items older than? selection. Noticed that he had 30,000 items in his Deleted Items folder ? hadn?t been emptying it. Tried to empty it, that fails with ?messaging interface has returned an unknown error?.
