Q: Problem with touchpad and Windows 8.1. Acer Aspire...

I bought an Acer Aspire E5-511, but I have problem with touchpad and Windows 8.1.The touchpad (Synaptics) is not working with Windows 8.1 x64, but it works fine with Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8 x64.When I install Windows 8.1 and have to choose? language to install? I can?t choose anything with the touchpad. I should plug in my mouse to continue. I doesn?t work even when it?s fully installed and with latest driver (available only for win 8.1 x64) from Acer?s website. I tried with an older driver, but had no success. I updated BIOS, but it doesn?t work again. In hardware IDS in device manager it shows HID\? not ACPI\? (like win 7/8). Fn+F7 doesn?t help. When I try to install Windows7/8 the touchpad is working properly at the beginning (I can choose ?language to install?, ?Time and currency format?? and the touchpad works after install even without driver).

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi

i've got a problem with my touchpad on Acer Aspire 3690, couple days ago it completely quit working, touchpad + the left and rigth keys on it and the scroll key.
When I looked into device manager I saw the exclamation mark beside the SCSI/RAID host Controller. I tried to update or something with that driver with wizard but no result, and also as I turn my laptop on, that wizard turns on and offers me to install it, but at the end it not finds any driver. I re-installed the Synaptic but it didn't help.

Thanx for help in advance. Any suggestion will be appreciated

Hi, I'm running Windows 10 on a Acer Aspire S7-392-6832 laptop. Lately I've been getting jealous of my Macbook friends because of the four-finger swipe that quickly switches the last two open windows (effectively the same as Alt-Tab on my laptop) However, I was wondering why my laptop is not concidered to have a "Windows Precision Touchpad". The drivers that I use (ELANtech - the main driver, and Synaptics) allows for 3 or 4 finger gestures, so surely my expensive 2013 ultrabook laptop has a touchpad that is good enough. Does anyone know how to make the touchpad show up as a "precision" model so I can use the useful gestures (that includes the app-switching in OS X)?  I've tried reinstalling the Synaptics and ELANtech drivers and messing with some other options but that did not work for me.  Thank you.

For the past few months, the right touchpad button does not work with the Windows 10 drivers. Windows 8.1 drivers worked fine. If I switch mouse settings to left handed, then the buttons work fine, but obviously this is awkward to get used to. I have rollbacked the driver to a very old edition and it worked fine, however then I had no synaptics touchpad settings so the touchpad settings could not be altered.

19.0.9.7 is the synaptics version

I just bought an Acer Aspire E15 laptop running windows 8.1 64 bit Feb 14, 2017. It took a while to get it to install updates. I looked up how to fix the "stuck at checking for updates forever" and I figured out how to get the updates working by manually installing a few updates using standalone update packages from Microsoft.com. I had to disable my internet and disable windows update with 'net stop wuauserv' in cmd. After installing them in the correct order based on the prerequisites section for the update that another forum mentioned, I ran 'net start wuauserv' and enabled my internet. It then, by itself, installed 221 updates and it took 10 hours. Now the touchpad on it has stopped working and is not listed in device manager. Please help.

I love this forum and have found a ton of useful information but this is my first time posting.

So I have an Acer Aspire ES1-512-P18H laptop that came stock with Windows 10. I deleted the partition and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 in legacy mode with a USB flash drive. I then installed most of my drivers and noticed that the scroll function on the keypad was not working.

I went to Acer Aspire ES1-512 Drivers Download for Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, XP and downloaded the "Mouse and Touchpad Driver" which is an Elantech driver. No luck.

I then uninstalled said driver and downloaded the Synaptics "Windows 8/7/XP/Vista 64/32-bit Edition v17.0.19" driver from Software Drivers | White Papers | Videos | Synaptics. Again, no luck.

I did some more research and found this article Solved: Aspire e15 (e5-511-p9y3) Touchpad not working on w... - Acer Community - 277578 and attempted to install Windows 7 in UEFI mode with Secure Boot off. I deleted the Windows 7 partition to not cause any issues and to perform a clean install on a blank partition. The Windows files would load and then hang at the windows logo screen when it says "Starting Windows."

I then did some more research and found this to be a common problem when installing Windows 7 on systems made for win8/10 using UEFI.

At this point I do not know what to do. I believe if I was able to install Windows 7 on a GTP partition using UEFI, my touchpad would work correctly. I th... Read more

This worked for the ETD050A touchpad used in my Acer Aspire ES1-512-P18H with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed via USB stick in Legacy mode.

Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem when downgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 7.

After updating to Windows 10 some months ago I've got some troubles with my Synaptic touchpad. Generally it's become less sensible so that I need to to tap more than one time and harder to select something. And when I've worked on my Acer Aspire 7745G for a long time the touchpad simply stop working, and the only thing that can make it work again is restarting the pc! A smaller annoying thing is that when drawing a line using the touchpad, moving a tiny bit too fast can make it accelerate out of my control. Hyper-sensibility one could call it! The problems occurs both when using the latest driver from Acer.com Synaptics 14.0.6.0, 2010/04/12, and the one installed automatically with Windows 10, Synaptics 19.0.9.4., 2015/07/14.

I have a month old Acer Aspire E 15 laptop. Its touchpad is very hard and for normal touch it just keeps roaming picking up cells. It can only be stopped by taking off the finger and then carefully taking cursor to an empty cell and press hard to click so the several picked up cells get released and I can work further. I tried Fn+F7 suggested by a forum member but it acts only an On/Off switch for the touchpad. Press Fn+F7 and it goes off, press again it comes back. But the hardness remains. A click with the touchpad means press the touchpad hard till it literally 'clicks'. Looks like the machine will be usable only with a mouse. Before I had a Lenovo and never faced any such problem. Anyone faced such a problem? And any solutions?

Laptop is an Acer Aspire 4730z with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, fully updated to current.

I installed an update to Avast's engine, and after rebooting, when I got to the Windows logon screen, both the mouse buttons on both the built-in Synaptics touchpad and an external USB mouse will only select an item, but nothing else happens. In other words, if I click on a user account, it selects it but it doesn't allow me to enter a password. Likewise, if I click on the shutdown icon at the lower right of the screen, it just selects it but nothing else happens.

But, I found that if I hit the tab key and then the enter key to select something on this screen, then the left mouse button starts working again on the touchpad and the USB mouse..

When I get into windows, the left mouse button on both the built-in touchpad and the external mouse continue to work, but the right mouse button on the built-in touchpad doesn't work. However, the right mouse button on the USB mouse works.

I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this:

- uninstalled and re-installed the drivers for both mouse devices multiple times, using different versions (for the touchpad, one set of drivers from Acer, another set from Synaptics)
- uninstalled the Synaptics device from device manager and let windows reinstall it upon reboot

Something weird happened. It would not work no matter what I tried. I was watching a movie on KODI formerly XBMC. I accidently touched the Keypad and the Mouse moved. I pressed the Video button and it lit up. Only thing that I can figure out is that it took several hours for the driver update to work or that the Video triggered the Touchpad. I had uninstalled and deleted every instance of the driver including the Backup System Reserved created by a MS Tech, when my Windows Ultimate became corrupted. Initialy it had Win-7 Home Premium and when it would not install IE10 at the time MS gave me a free upgrade to Ultimate.Even then it took a week to finally get IE10 installed because the Computer Lacked Service pack1. Kudos to the MS Techs, they called me numerous times and worked on my computer. The spoke excellent English and are based in India. Laptop was out of warranty and Acer pretty much said tough luck, you gotta pay. MS did not charge me one cent.

Just ruled out malware in other section of this forum. Laptop's integrated keyboard suffers intermittent lock-ups for no apparent reason (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, right now, doesn't). Touchpad seems deactivated (tried FN + F7 in case of accidental disable, but that's not the case), every option related to touchpad are grayed out in 'mouse' menu (config panel). Before malware check-up,tried system restore to last week, all problems were still there, so I reverted back. I have to use visual keyboard to type. Have to work with external mouse because touchpad doesn't work. Tried reinstalling touchpad drivers from Acer website, and didn't work. Computer worked perfect a few days ago.

Sounds like you may have some system files corrupt. This can occur after a lot of spyware. Some times just removing it dose not correct what it has already messed up. Your best maybe to back up your personal stuff. Then do a factory reinstall.

Hi!

I'm trying (and failing hard) to hook up a Homegroup network between a stationary PC, a D-Link DIR-825 router, and an Acer Aspire 6920G notebook. Both PCs run Windows 7 Ultimate. My homebuilt desktop PC gets or generates an IPv6 adress just fine, as does the router, but the notebook refuses categorically, whether via 802.11g, 802.11n, or cable hookup to the router, though IPv4 works perfectly.

I've checked the IPv6 protocol settings for both machines, and they're identical. The built-in nic on the notebook seems like it should be IPv6 compatible given that there are fields under Advanced Options in the hardware properties relating to IPv6, and according to other logs posted here that turned up while googling the 802.11 transciever, it too is IPv6 compatible.

I've tried the obvious (new drivers, no firewall, etc), but I still can't get it working. Is there anything else I should try before wiping the laptop clean and reinstalling it?

Sebastian

I have a Acer Aspire one netbook, and a unbranded 2gb robot usb memory stick. i cant seem to find a problem but thier must be one, as anytime i try to access my memory stick, nothing appears, the LEDS just flash.

Now as far as i know, things start to get odd
Ipod connects to netbook fine, can view content and access space reserved for disk use.
Ps3 controller connects fine, and charges. (not sue if that helps at all)
Dads memory stick connects and its files can be read fine.
My memory stick can connect to dads Toshiba laptop, and to school pc's fine.

i cant see where there can be a problem so im desperate for help right now, so please. any suggestions welcome, and thanks in advance.

For the past few weeks my computer has been prone to randomly freezing while websites are open and i get the "not responding" message at the top of every website and cannot do anything or click anywhere until i hold down the off button and force the machine to turn off and on again, and even then it doesn't always work fine when it's back on.

As of yesterday when i log in the laptop seems to think that the left click button has been pressed and when i move the mouse around it highlights folders on my desktop. When i press the left click it brings up what the right click button should do, whereas the right click button does nothing. Whenever i click on icons on the desktop nothing happens and i can't access any programs (start menu, firefox, etc) until i press ctrl + alt + delete and open the task manager. As soon as task manager is opened (and i can see that it is not doing any processes) i can use my left click and go on firefox/start menu etc. However the right click still does nothing.

I've got AVG, Malware Bytes and CCleaner, have run several cleanups and defragmenters. Nothing has brought up any problems or viruses etc. I'm just really starting to run out of ideas of what i can do to sort this out. I'd rather not have to back everything up and perform a factory reset!

If anyone can shed some light onto this problem i'd really appreciate it!

Without more information (system specs) we'd be "shooting in the dark".
Might get lucky and hit the target, but maybe not.

One shot in the dark...

If you have a wireless mouse,
and the usb dongle is plugged into a USB3 port (aka Super Speed USB),
(instead of a USB2 port),
this may cause erratic behavior.
I have seen this happen with some Logitech mice.

Have you tried a different mouse?

Your slow internet and your erratic mouse may or may not be related.

Howdy,
I have a problem with an Acer Aspire E17 (ES1-711G-P2VR).
I installed very hard Windows 10 and now if I open a video on youtube, locks occasionally and I feel like I do not work properly.
I installed drivers on their website.
Note that the laptop came with linux. After many attempts by formatting the hard disk MBR (or other option, i dont remember exactley) has been installed wind 10.
Does not support wind 10? or to be the problem?
I can not figure why not functioning normally.
Any help is welcome, I had eaten about 2 nights install / uninstall wind ... install / uninstall drivers, etc ...
Thank you ! A good evening !

A:Acer Aspire E17 (ES1-711G-P2VR) windows 10 problem !!!

Having the same issue with the same model of laptop.

Managed to install Windows 10 after i disabled from bios Advanced Touchpad. But once windows started it freezes or just shuts down without any warning/error.

First time i got this was after i installed the Audio Driver from acer and i thought that was the problem but after a new install with the default driver that win 10 installs i still have the same issues with it. Really got no clue what else i can do. I checked Device Manager everything seems to be fine in there, doesn't show any errors or anything.

TL.DR. Windows shuts down with no warning or freezes randomly. I can try to install a program now and it crashes, next time i try to install the same program it can work.

GianniDPC,

* Have you tried a System Restore to a point PRIOR to your current problems?

*Have you checked in Event Viewer?
Type eventvwr in search.
Go to the Windows Logs > application > in the left hand column note anything that relates to the problem.
Please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

*List all the Security software you have ever had installed & currently have now on your computer please.

* Browser addons can create problems.
Check how many you have on your various browsers. Is each & every one really needed?

* Go to search, type device manager and look for any yellow warning markers.

* Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.
To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then
SFC /SCANNOW

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

* Check Disk.

So I have been tasked to set up a computer for relatives on a brand new Acer Aspire axc-603g desktop computer. One of the things is downgrading from windows 8.1 to windows 7. I have a windows 7 install disc and have tried booting from the disc to install from there. It gets from the "loading files" bar to the "starting windows" when a blue screen pops up saying
"Error: 0x000000A5 Bios is not fully ACPI compliant". This stops any kind of installation to happen.

Things to note:
1) I have disabled secured boot
2) Bios has been set to the legacy setting.

I have reason to believe this error has something to do with UEFI but I am not certain. Any help would be amazing!!

I just went out a 2 days ago and bought an Acer Aspire XC-603G-UW31 for my mother, who was in desperate need of a new computer, and barely understands "Windows 7" after 4 years of use, let alone "Windows 8.1". So, I decided to get it and downgrade the OS for her. After getting it home and setting it up, I updated to the newest version of the BIOS. I downloaded a copy of all the important drivers from the Acer website, and I got out my Windows 7 disks. I tried the setup from the desktop first, and it worked fine until it restarted the computer... Because after I got past the "Loading Windows Files" screen, and on to the "Starting Windows", 2 of the 4 dots appeared on the screen and it froze and gave me a red bar across the top... So I went into the BIOS and was sure that secure boot was off, and spent almost an hour searching for my "Launch CSM" option, only to come to the conclusion that it doesn't exist... So, I tried the installation 2 more times, one with a fresh boot, and the other from the desktop, both ending it that frozen splash screen... So, I contacted Acer, and after climbing the ladder of tech support and supervisors, they have given me the awesome advise along the lines of of, "We have no clue why your computer doesn't have the same BIOS options that every other Acer Aspire XC-603G-UW31 has.". I've searched almost every forum related to this issue and all I have managed to find is one other person that g... Read more

I just had to replace the top cover, including touchpad, on an Acer 5741 running Windows 7 64 Home Premium. The cover appears identical to the old one, and everything works, but the symantics touchpad software doesn't recognize the touchpad as a touchpad; it shows as a "wheel mouse on PS/2 port". Therefore, I can't turn off the incredibly annoying "tap to click" function. The option to disable tap to click is grayed out... it appears that's because the touch pad is seen as a "mouse" not a touch pad, as it was before.

When no drivers are installed, Device Manager just sees it as a PS2 Mouse. When drivers are installed, Device Manager sees it as Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad.

Acer identifies three manufacturers of touchpads on the 5741 on its support website. I have tried all three; ALPS, Synaptics, and Elan; the Synaptics drivers install and work as above; ALPs installs but doesn't provide any control, and Elan doesn't even install.

At the recommendation of the vendor of the laptop cover, I tried a site called "magicdriver" to help identify the hardware, since Windows apparently does that based on the drivers. It does appear to be a synaptic touchpad based on "hardware ID" under properties, details, via device manager.

The OS is entirely up to date. I have tried the latest Synaptics drivers, I have tried using the original driver version that came with the laptop, and I have tried a couple of versions in be... Read more

A:Synaptic touchpad can't kill "Tap to Click" - Acer Aspire 5741

I determined that the touchpad in the replacement top cover was from Elantech. Even when deleting the Synaptics drivers under "uninstall programs" and deleting the driver in device manager along with the "PS/2 mouse" the device ID code implies that the hardware manufacturer is Synaptics. I downloaded the "Acer" versions of all three manufacturers' drivers from the Acer support page, then extracted them all to separate directories. I then installed and uninstalled them all. The key was to use "Update Driver" from within Device Manager to get them to properly install. That was hours of my life I'll never get back!
