Network Problem

Q: Network Problem

I have 3 pcs all running Vista home my one pc has 2 users one is the name of the pc
and the other is pc name pc-oc what is that? I never made another user acount

Preferred Solution: Network Problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try a system restore to a point before the extra User accounts appeared. Scan for malware too.

Hi peeps, here's a seemingly unsolvable problem I have:

I want to network my two PCs (An Acer Vista Laptop and my old HP XP Desktop) so that I can play network games (Operation Flashpoint).

So I connect them both wirelessly to the router (a cheap SWEEX one). Now when Iook on my Vista Laptop's Network place I can see the Laptop I'm using the router (and can access it's page and everything) but I can't see my XP desktop from here. And when I go into the Desktop's network places I can't see the router or either of the computers I'm using.

And I assume that this network problem is why I can't see a server in my game.

Now I understand that file and printer sharing is turned, the firewall is definately turned off and I think the appropriate services are turned on (well to make sure I turned every single service on ) There must be some more complex reason why my XP hates to network!

Although I am by no means a noob to general computing I am reasonably new to networking. Can you clever lot help me?

So i'm having an issue connecting my desktop to my home network for file sharing. My Desktop is connected to the internet like so: Desktop ->(Ethernet cable)-> Uverse 2wire router -> Internet.

I have no issues with my internet connection, and in fact I am posting this from my desktop now. Windows Network Diagnostics finds no issues when I run the trouble shooter. and when I try to connect to a home group it refers me to the network issue.

This issue has plagued me for about 6 months now. I have talked to Uverse tech support, and many of my friends who are into computers and have gotten no answers. Computer is running windows 7 SP1 and again the router is the Uverse 2wire router

How can I make my desktop available for network sharing?

Also here is a screenshot of the network map according to this computer

Hello, i am new here on the forum. Im looking for any gentle help i can get here from you guys who might be able to figure out my problem.
For some time ago (around 1 month) ive been having problems with my internet from time to time which include a really slow responding or sending into the internet. It is so that sometimes my ping goes up above 200ms and stays there for a quite some time (maybe an hour or more). I check my ping using cmd and typing "ping ping.sunet.se". I can also feel that the delay is huge when playing online games, so there is deffenitly something wrong with the sending and responding. Also when i check my connection in mb/s using some homepages that calculates it, like "bredbandskollen.se" (a swedish page). And here i see that the mb/s speed is prefectly fine (around 7mb/s recieving and 0.4-0.1mb/s sending). Not sure if the sending speed is accepting thou. And when my internet is busy, like when i am streaming something or things like that, my responding speed gets a bit better like 150ms, thou when my internet is doing fine and works as it should i usually stay around 20ms ^^ so something must be wrong.
Now i woundering what might cause my internet troubeling. Any thoughts would be great, thanks!

I have installed server 2003 on a small network and created a domain that is the same as the public domain name (ie the companies website).

This is now causing a problem because when i type in the public address (for example www.company.com) it is trying to resolve it locally - because the local domain name is also company.com.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get round this problem?

Many thanks in advance

A:problem with the local network having the same domain name as the public network

add 'local.' to the internal domain or change it altogether.

Your public domain should not have any connection into your private infrastructure,
but you may have references from private->public; not very common.

I added a printer to my network (hp c5180) via ethernet cable. But problem accords when I try to map a network location (card reader 5in1 or sth like that, is used to read SD, xD, ms cards used in cameras) from which I d like to copy images, files in explorer without extra software from HP. After I installed drivers for printer, it automatically map a network location but when I try to open it or connect to that location I get an error:

"Access code is invalid"
The network path is "\\\Memory_card"
I copied this link in to my internet browser (in this case its g Chrome) and I was able to connect to the network location:

Its strange because all of XP based computers can easily connect, problem is only with windows 7 based computers.
Somewhere I found that this could be repaired with changing: (below)

1. Open the Administrative Tools in the Control Panel
2. Open the Local Security Policy
3. Select the Security Option under Local Policies
4. Choose Send LM & NTLM responses in Network security: LAN

or in reg:

In Windows 7, we can set the following Registry key ?HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Lsa\LMCompatibilityLevel? to ?1?.

But this solutions dont work in my case.

Does somebody know hot to fix this and what is causing it??

I have a Linksys BEFSR81 router and a Linksys WAP54G connected to it. I recently installed a Linksys Network Storage Link NSLU2 to the network with a Maxtor One Touch HD. I have been able to map the new network drive to my computer that is connected to the router, but I'm unable to map the drive on my second computer that is connected to the network via the AP. However I can ping the Linksys NAS from my wireless computer.

A:Mapping Network Drive on Wireless Network Problem

like most NAS devices, the Linksys nslu2 has built in security administered through a web browser. You probably need to create a user acount for the wirelessly-attached computer, either by machine name, IP address, user id, or some combination of the above. You may also have to grant permission to the user or user group for the specific share you are trying to map. hope this helps.

So im at a complete loss here....

I have a windows 7 pro x86 computer that out of the blue stopped connecting to its network drives. I tried a few things like flushing the dns, re-registering, new IP finally I decided to rejoin it to the domain, big mistake. The computer couldn't contact the domain controller even though all the info was correct. I ended up doing a restore to the week prior updated the NIC drivers and everything seemed to be working.

The following day it happened again I tried the same few fixes and the solution this time was to uninstall all the hidden devices under the network adapter, after a reboot I got into the drives just fine. Now everytime the user shuts his computer down he gets this same problem. My boss ran into the same problem on another machine the other day so Im hesitant to restore, I would prefer a fix in case this shows up again.

The computer can get online and use our email through outlook but network resources are all gone. The machine can also ping all of the servers but wont connect with \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx IP or \\servername\share even with credentials entered.

Ive looked all over with no success.

A:Very strange problem connecting to network drives / network.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

If it's now happening to another computer, I'd unplug the router and switch(es) for 20 to 30 seconds. Also, check on your computer's Security or Firewall programs installed, make sure that they are up to date and not blocking the ports and network resources. You may try disabling the program(s) temporarily for debugging purpose.

An update will be nice.

I got help to a BSOD problem in the crashes and bugs forum. Impressed with the help i received i was hoping to get help for a network issue ive had for a while.

I am using a cablet connection with my Zyxcel P2602 HWT modem. The modem/router is provided by my internet provider. It also supports a wireless connection.

When i start my computer both the connections is fine. After a while though the cabled connection is said to be unidentified. It works as a local connection, but has no internet access. When i run the diagnoses for the connection it again recognize the network and its working fine for a while until the same happens.

I tried upgrading the driver without luck. The version now says Atheros AR8121/AR88113/AR88114 PCI-E ethernet Controller (NDIS6.20
Driver date: 11.06.2009

If there is information needed ill be happy to provide.

Hello DonkrDjay, welcome to SF!

As a test, can you check what IP number your router gives you (through its DHCP server i hope) when it works well?
Then when it stops working... is it still the same or did you get a totally different IP for your PC?

Second, if posible, could you post snips of your router DHCP settings?

I recently had a computer that crashed and had to be rebuilt. Now that it is back up and running, Im having problems with mapping network drives. Specifically, two maps that were previously working.

If I go to my network places, all of the shares are present from all computers. I can get into all of them, except for two, both on the same computer. (on a windows XP pro) (the rebuild is also windows xp pro)

\\computer1\apps is not accessible. you may not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is Denied.

I checked the folders, both show access to everyone. I can access them from another computer. Simple file sharing is turned off on all computers. I can ping all computers, and vice versa. Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.

any ideas?

let me know if you need more information, I can get whatever is needed.

For 2 years, My XP computer has had no problems picking up 10-20 wireless connections in my neighborhood, some i could connect to,some i could not because they were secured.

i decided to go straight , and purchase DSL.

i bought a new computer(vista) and got a westell 327 DSL modem, which is also a wireless router. The new computer is working fine, i called Verizon to set up the new computer's dsl wireless network, that worked out fine.

My old computer, the one i spoke about opening this thread, that computer immediately picked up the DSL signal from my new computer in the other room.. The signal was excellent and the name of the network WAS ON THE LIST of the dozen other wireless connections i could connect to. Problem is when i went to connect to my own DSL network, i got this error message:

"Limited or no connectivity
You might not be able to access the internet or some network resource. This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer."

I typed in the correct password, the little icon in the corner of my computer said both computers were connected, and with an excellent signal strength. Reiterating: i could still connect and go online with the other avaiable networks running the computer, but not my own.

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.
please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

I have an interesting problem that has been driving some pretty smart IT guys nuts. To perform my job I have to access a certain venders web pages that has security set up that I do not know all the details of. Anyway on the company PC using the company image that is a normal XP image and maintained by Comp U Com.

Any time I access this vender's web page it works fine until just after the log in screen. Once I put in my user name and password and click Ok IE just goes blank white and that's it. No error msg no nothing, its not locked up as the frame is still there and the world is turning but nothing else.

This happens on all the company PCs accessing this particular vender's web page as I went and checked. So I wanted to see if it the problem was in the PC or the network. I took the company PC home and was able to successfully log into that vender's web page from my cable modem at that house. Worked fine.

I have already added the vender web pages to the trusted zone and enabled all the active X and everything, deleted the cookies, tried some proxies etc. Every setting that can be done on the PC I have tried.

My question is what is the company network security system blocking that IE needs to work and how to resolve?

Are you getting any 'link light' on the card you plug the cable into? Usually a little green light or Amber I think it is on Dell. If you are not I suggest trying a different cable from your modem to your PC.

Also, is your PC directly connected to the modem or into a router?

And when setting your IP address are you going to Start --> Control Panel --> Network Connections?

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum. I am hoping someone maybe able to help me diagnose and fix the problem with this problem. I have a problem with Acer Aspire One Network Adapter. The problem is that the netbook will connect to the internet and will have full bars for internet connectivity. Then a few minutes later it will just disconnect on it's own! I can usually reconnect by going on the Network & Sharing Center, then going into Diagnose problems, then clicking on Network Adapter, then after it resets, it will usually reconnect to the Internet, but lately it won't reconnect! I then have to restart the netbook. The netbook is running Windows 7 Starter, and it has Atheros AR5BXB63 Network Adapter. My friend who is a computer person searched online to confirm if the drivers were up to date, said that was not the problem. I would like any advise anyone can give me to see if this netbook can be fixed before I have to buy another! Please advise?

Hi everyone

I need to see if anyone has a solution to my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and my granddaughter has a Dell Inspiron i15-157B. I added her laptop to our wireless network (Linksys wireless-G broadband router model WRT54GS). Everything works fine as long as she's here in our home, but when she goes home and we try to connect our webcams through Yahoo Messenger, I can see and hear her just fine. She can see me but can't hear me. Why would it work here and not there? I'm wondering if it's something with our home network.

Her laptop at home is connected directly to the internet, but they will be setting up a wireless router also. We both use Vista.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PCs are Win 7 Ultimate, All are joined to the Domain
Domain Controller, DNS, DHCP Server (on same instance) is Server 2012 standard
The network topology is like this: Router as Internet Gateway>Switch>Wired to Server and PC's, SIP phones, and Wireless Access Point all on same subnet. DNS and DHCP have been offloaded to Server Roles and switched off on the router.
All of the PCs have network cards that have joined the domain network at least some of the time since I set them up.
Some of them have always picked up the domain network and continue to this day.
Some of them intermittently pick up the domain network and other times join whatever other unmanaged network is available.
Some of them have stopped picking up the domain network altogether and will, no matter how many times their NICs are restarted, always join a non-domain (unmanaged) network.
When the NICs are not joining the domain, they are unable to ping hostnames of any devices on the network but nslookup of the hostnames usually works. The DC, DNS, DHCP server's IP can be pinged without issue, ipv4 or ipv6.
I am recording DNS Client Errors (ID 1014) on all of the PCs during the intervals when their NICs are identifying which network to join.

-On the PCs that are catching the domain network I am only getting a single error about the root domain, eg the domain is ad.domain.com and I am only getting errors about how the configured DNS servers cannot resolve domain.com (nothing with fully qualified

I have a very weired network problem , i really don't know what's wrong , I have a network that contains 5 clients and 1 server , all of them are using windows xp professional , including the server , they are connecting to a switch and there is a software for internet sharing on the server .

Everything was working perfect since today morning when suddenly the internet disconnected from the client pc's and they couldn't access it again , i've checked the internet sharing software and found that everything is fine , also checked the cable and found that it's also fine .

then i tried to ping a client pc from the server and found no response , tried to ping the server from the client pc and found a response , also clients can't ping each other , it shows the request time out message .

so now , every client can ping the server , but the server can't ping them ! , also they can't ping each other .

but when i click network neighborhood i can browse the files on the clients machines without any problem .

can you please tell me how can i fix this or what's the problem? the internet sharing software that i'm using is called allegrosurf .

please help !

A:network problem

Not being able to ping the machines sounds like a firewall issue, 99% of the time, that's the reason for failure to respond to a ping. Perhaps you can tell us what firewall products you use all around?

Can you access the Internet from the server? I'm not familiar with allegrosurf, so I'm not sure about configuration, but it seems that would be the place to start with a common failure.

Don't turn your firewall off! You'll have more problems than intermittent connection drops.

I have setup a small peer-to-peer network in our office, in which there are only 4 machines. 3 of the computers appear to be fine, and can see the other 3 machines on the network, and can access their shared folders. However, one machine always prompts for a password when any of the other computers tries to access it even though I didnt set one up.

i then found that the PC was running an ASP.NET user account, and after searching several technical sites, I determined that this was the cause of the password prompt. The sites all said that it would be okay to delete this acount, which is what I did, and so I expected that the problem would be fixed.

However, after rebooting all the machines and trying to access the computer again, I was confused to find that it was still asking for a password. Another thing that confused me was that this computer could access the other machines shared folders, whilst not letting the others see its own.

My boss tells me that the machine in question he brought with him from a previous job, and that it was configured to another networks settings (clearly a much more complex one than the simple network I have set up). He says that he cannot get in touch with the person who configured his machine, to try and obtain the password.

Does anyone here know what the cause of my problem is, or suggest any additional steps I can take? If anyone requires additional information I will be happy to post

Hey guys. I have a problem with one of the computers on my network. It will connecet to the wireless and LAN connection, but the connection is only local, I can see the other computers on the network, but I cannot connect to the internet myself. Yet all of the other computers on the network works perfectly.
Weird thing is that it happened just suddenly.

I think I must've tried almost everything by now (well everything I had in my mind), resetting the router, turning off and on the network card, reparing the connection, updating the network driver and the list goes on..

It's a HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop, and the network card is Intel Pro Wireless.

Any thoughts on this?
Best regards, Fred

my problem is that if i configure the ip of my 2 network cards like ip, gateway and dns i cant access my local network websites.

both LAN and WAN have different DNS Servers.

Tell us about the whole network. Normally, you leave the Default Gateway off the local network configuration.

Hi. I've been having an odd problem with my internet lately. I have a wireless connection to which a desktop and a laptop are connected via wireless as well as another desktop via wire. My iTouch can also connected to the network.

The problem is that the desktop with the wired connection is not loading anything. I have a number of problems with Zonealarm on that machine as well. To be more specific about the problem, none of the programs I've used to connect to the internet load pages or tell me that they are unable to load pages. They attempt to connect for a few minutes and tell me they are done without showing anything.

I've also have been having my network go out once in a while and I'm unsure if it's the router or my ISP.

Thank you for any help in advance.

I am helping my neighbour to get her laptop (Windows Vista) to work wirelessly. It did work ok but not now.Even after I put the setup disc into it, it does not show that it has recognised the router. I can only get it to work by using an ethernet cable. I tried to install my router onto it and it came up with a message saying it had "two network adapters, please click on one of them" or words to that effect. It didn't show anything to click on!
Also she has recently bought a new desktop computer (Windows 7) and when I was looking into the routers settings it is still showing her name of the old PC she has scapped in the Network. Therefore on the BASIC NETWORK INFORMATION screen it says Network 2. I know this is probably not important but if she ever buys a new PC in the future it will show Network 3!! So what can I do to get rid of the old computer name on the router settings?
Is this the reason the wireless laptop needs to know which "Network" to use as the old computer name is Inactive.

can we see an xirrus screen shot - you will need to download and install while connected to the router

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Direct link to the program is here http://info.xirrus.com/Wi-FiInspectorConfirmation.html

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to haveNET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

A user guide is available here http://www.xirrus.com/cdn/pdf/Xirrus-Wi-Fi-inspectorguide-1-2-1-RevB-6.aspx

post a screen shot of the program running.

Hello all. When I try to play counter strike over my network it lets me create a game but if any computers on my network try to join a game it says something like cs is for home class c networks. This is how my network is set up... cable internet goes into my modem, goes into a dumb hub, one cable of the hub goes into a computer the other cable goes into a 8 port swich which two other computers are connected to, also a hub which is split into two computers is hooked up to the swich. At lan parties this dose not happen so i think its with my network. Also for starcraft it says it does not know what vesion i have when i try to log on to batte.net.

I have 2 computers (both running XP PRO) networked together using a HUB. I have run the "set up a home network wizzard" on both PC's. Each PC has the other PC's C drive listed. But if you try to enter the other PC's C drive you get a message that says you do not have premission to open these files and to see the system administrator. How do I go about giving permission for each PC to have full and unlimited access to each others files? All help appreciated. Thanks

You'll need to setup both users on both machines with the same passwords. Also make sure that they are on the same workgroup. Also, disable any firewalls that are in place, including the Windows Firewall.

I have a problem in which my Ethernet controller goes into an inactive state, because it cannot find the local gateway to my router. If I disable and re-enable my controller it solves the problem, but only for a few minutes. This ONLY occurs if start downloading something, any stress put on the controller over a few kb/s causes it to fail.

Things I tried:
1) uninstalling the driver and reinstalling the ones from Nvidia
2) static IP addressing; It will still lose the gateway, don't ask me how, but i get the yellow flag and i have no internet connection.

It is getting really annoying that I cannot play an Internet game/Download a File or do anything but light internet browsing without having to reset the controller every few minutes.

I searched the forums before for a solution and I never quite found anything that worked. All of the problems seem to be back when Win7 was in beta or early RC.

If anyone can help out, it would be very much appreciated.

OK, I have a whitebox Athlon XP 1800, let us call it "A". An HP laptop to be called "B", and a whitebox P3 we'll call "C". A & B are running XP, C is running 98SE. B & C can see each other & share files both ways, and both can see A, again sharing files, but A cannot see B or C. However, I installed a printer on A's printer port, and can access it from C just fine(After loading the drivers). What the heck is going on here?
I checked the registry thingy that I saw posted to one of the threads, but it was already set to 0. And yes, I have the firewall turned off. All units have ready access to the internet thru a switch and a DSL modem.
I'm at somewhat of a loss

Network Problem ? Goes up and down:

Dell 8100, Pentium 4 1.5 Ghz, 1.25 MB Memory
Windows XP Professional, SP2 and all updates through Dec 2006
Zone Alarm Security Suite 6.5.737 with all program, virus and spyware updates through 29 Dec 06

Problem: The network appears to go up and down at 5-10 second intervals. This problem stared a couple weeks ago but I can not connect it to any changes on this computer.

1.If you start a download or view a large web page, network traffic will transfer for several seconds and then the network will hang. After several seconds in this state, it will come back to life and then repeat the problem.
2.If you ping this computer from another computer, several pings will be returned and then several will time out. This symptom will repeat.
3.If you connect to a shared folder on this computer from another computer, you will have intermittent access to the shared folder.
4.If the network is hung (as in 1-3) and you start a new program that attempts network connections, then the network will ?wake-up? for a few seconds.
5.If you start a continuous ping (ping -t secondhost) from this computer to another computer, the network does not appear to hang. Is the ping function a new connection to the network each ping?

Attempted fixes/diagnostics:

1.I have unloaded all startup applications, including Zone Alarm Security Suite, and the problem still exist.
2.I have virus and spyware scanned with Zone Alarm
3.I have spyware scanned with SpyBot 1.4 ... Read more

I am using Wi-Max broadband connection. From some couple of weeks I have faced a network problem that in every time when I start my PC, it is not connected to internet automatically as before it was connected automatically. So when I start my PC two active network Home & Public are showing in Network and Sharing Center. The public network is showing Unidentified. But if I open Network and Sharing Center then > click on local area connection then > properties > then unmark the Network filter driver, the public network goes off automatically & I am connected to the internet. But after that I shut down PC and again restart PC the same problem is occurs that the public network comes automatically with Unidentified Network.

Then I do same process and mark the Network filter driver (N.B. previously I unmarked the network filter driver but this time I mark it) the Unidentified Public network goes off & connected to internet. Every time I start the PC I do the same process. So I request you to give some solution to permanently delete the Unidentified Public network & fix this problem. Thank You.
