How do I stop my laptop from stuttering?

Q: How do I stop my laptop from stuttering?

I have a Toshiba that is less than a year old and whenever I listen to music, watch movies or watch videos, my laptop will create a loud buzzing noise and will stutter. This happens every few minutes and it has got worse the past few days. I've done quick scans on Norton and it hasn't found any viruses, so I don't know what is causing the stutter.

Preferred Solution: How do I stop my laptop from stuttering?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Alex and welcome to Seven Forums.

Are you watching/listening to streaming content from the web or are you playing back from saved files on your hard drive? Or does the buzzing and stuttering happen in both cases?

Hello everyone,
my husband poured tea allover my laptop about 2 days ago and yesterday the laptop suddenly started stuttering. every few seconds the mouse the screen including sound etc. will freeze for about 2 sec. and then work again. as my computer is fairly new I don't think it could have any other reason than the teaspill. I still got heaps of space, don't overheat or run excessive background programs or similar things...so it is probably a harddrive problem. any ideas on what the problem could be and if I could fix it myself?
that would be awesome as I don't have the money to get it fixed
thanks,
tasha

I have an HP ProBook 4540s that stutters when accepting input via both keyboard and mouse. This happens not just in windows, but also in the BIOS itself. Issue is also present when booting to safe mode, and in POST. I am a bit stumped, but I have run a memtest from the UBCD and it checked out fine, as did my HDD. Any ideas?

The issue that I am having is that when I launch applicaiton, the wallpaper changes, or of its own accord my laptop stutters and freezes for a second or two i believe this is caused by the hardware that is processing the images being switched from the Intel CPU that is powering the laptop and the GTX 1050ti GPU that is powering the more intensive graphical tasks, I should be able to fix this by making the 1050ti my dedicated full time Graphics driver making it now have to switch back and forth.

A:Laptop stuttering/hanging when switching GPU

I Have screenshots of a monitoring software for the GTX1050ti that shows that it has spikes from 0% to 40% at periodic intervals and each time this happens then the freeze happens.

Hi,

I'll try to keep this brief.

I purchased my HP Probook 4530s off my friend last week. Naturally, I formatted it to give a fresh install of Windows. Since then I have been having this issue:

Laptop freezing up - YouTube

Watch the video above, as you can hear the video lags/stutters as well as the sound 'buzzing'. The mouse lags across the screen and for some reason the internet disconnects during this time. The only way to fix this is to restart the laptop, although is happens again.

I have re installed Windows 3 times now and every time I get the issue.

I notice it the most under the following circumstances:

-Awaken PC from sleep mode
-Run laptop on battery power

In saying that, it is completely random. I was just in a Skype call on battery power and it was fine. I hung up and then rang someone again and it started freezing/buzzing/stuttering. The internet disconnected and I had to restart the laptop for fix it.

What on earth is causing this? The laptop worked perfectly before I formatted it the first time.

Specs:

W7
HP Probook 4530s
i5 2430m 2.4GHz
8 GB RAM
HD 6490

Please and thank you for anyone who can offer any advice!

A:Laptop Freezing/Stuttering Randomly During Use

I believe I have narrowed it down to my network card.

I guess it would make sense why the internet disconnects when I get those issues, but why would it freeze up my system?

I ran the DPC latency checker, and sure enough after 5 minutes on battery, I got the issue. I disabled things in device manager 1 by 1 and found when I disable my "802.11n Wireless LAN Card" the issue INSTANTLY goes away. Re-enabling it brings the issue back again.

I've tried updating the card's drivers yet it doesn't change the driver version of the card.

Help?

I have bought a Toshiba Satellite A300-23J laptop 2 weeks ago. I have been using it with no problems. But today some strange things are happening. When watching movies, listening music and specially when playing games(even browser based flash games), my computer suddenly freezes for 1-2 sec and sound stutters. Sometimes it happens rarely, sometimes frequent. I use everest and my GPU and CPU temperatures are usually between 45-55 celcius while i'm not playing a game. And about 60 when playing. I don't think those values are abnormal, but i'm a bit obsessed. What can be causing this? What can i do? I recently updated my sound card drivers but it has been 3 days maybe. I made a chkdisk scan and no disc problems at all.

Waiting for your answers. Thanks.

A:Toshiba Laptop Weird Stuttering

Those temps are high butnot to the extreme (accptable I guess).
You could try using acooling pad or nlow compressed air through it to keep it running efficient.
Try running a memtest http://www.memtest.org/
or even performing the 8-step virus/malware removal, you may have malware.
You can even try checking your HDD to make sure that isn't corrupt,

Yesterday i was djing on the laptop through a mixer..and then the sound disorted, like the speaker had been blown..if it's blown would it still be playing audio though? and could that be the reason for the lagging/stuttering? (that it's blown maybe)

I have a HP-dv6 -6050 laptop, bought it last august. It was running fine up until a month or two ago. I don't recall what I did but I think it was the time I installed Dragon Age: Origins. Either way, I noticed some problems since then.
Firstly it became very slow...even deleting files took longer than usual even of size 18 bytes.Programs and folder would take time to launch.
Secondly, which is a big headache, audio and video files now get stuck every 3-5 seconds while playing them. It is there evn in VLC player.
I tried defragging, some kind of a memory test through diagnostic startup, and even returned the system to factory settings. Sometimes it seems to get better.. but only for a while.
Also, the graphic card switching mechanism seems to be a bit buggy. When I plug in the power source, the dialog box to switch the graphic card doesn't appear.
I would be very grateful to anyone who can help sort this out.

I have been having problems keeping my touchpad and keyboard functioning after taking my laptop apart. In the first instance, my touchpad stopped working a couple weeks after the dissection. I took the computer back apart, and re-secured the touch pad jack in the motherboard connector, and it worked again.

The second instance, which I havent been able to solve, is the keyboard keys. Certain keys will stop working after some short time after taking apart the computer, usually a couple hours to a couple days.

I have tried readjusting the keyboard jack in the motherboard connector, also have tried turning off the computer and taking out the battery for a while.

Please help

We just been discussing "what action should be taken?" I have told her we may install some software like parental control of Windows Vista. because the parental control in not in Windows XP, I am here asking you to tell me "where to get the free/cheaper software that can do they followings:

Limit the hours of using computer.
Automatically computer log off after hours.
Setup the days to use computer.
Block specific website
Stop them from playing games from the internet/computer too
Stop each user from downloading as set up by Admin.
And all those that Admin (parent) can do to prevent the kids from.

To the online games, the bill for the internet is too high because of online playing, watching movies, surfing the web each after each (children).

My laptop fan is running non stop, even when I use 10% or less CPU and even when I leave it alone for hours at a time. I come back, and it's still running. But the computer isn't even hot. Almost as soon as I turn my laptop on, the fan starts up and never stops. It's overheated a few times recently, resulting in spontaneous shut down of the machine all together. I had to wait a few minutes before I started it back up, and when I did, the fan started up almost immediately. Also, I set it to go into stand by mode on its own after an hour of non-use, and then into hibernation mode after 2 hours of non-use. But a few months ago, it stopped doing it on its own, and now I have to get up in the middle of the night and turn it off myself, for fear that the fan will run itself out. HI,
I have set my laptop to go to sleep when I close the lid. According to the online help, it should stay in sleep mode unless the battery gets low, in which case it hibernates. Well after a while of being asleep, my laptop goes into hibernation regardless of the battery life remaining. This can happen after an hour or so.
How can I stop it from hibernating, or is this normal?

Hallo,

Sometimes the laptob is shutting down automatically.

I dedected that when the battery becomes too low in can happen.

Some googling learned me that indeed it can happen in W8 and that there is a patch KB2845533 for it.

I have that patch so what other reason could it be (AV & malware have been running)

A:Laptop stop working ?

I can suggest you using your laptop when the power cable plugged in as much as you can. Not only it increases the performance of your laptop it also will keep your battery not fall to low state.

Be advised most laptops when they fall to low battery (when under 10% ~ 7%) the laptop goes hibernate mode automatically.

This is the Windows 7 power plan. If the shut down is a feature of your particular computer, you will have to check your computer manual.

Hey everyone!

Yesterday my HP laptop shut off unexpectedly and when I rebooted it, about 30 seconds after logging in and double clicking chrome, the laptop BSOD'd on me. It's giving me the STOP: 0x000000F4 error with some other parameters. It will BSOD almost immediately after trying to load anything other than simple folder opening and even then it will crash after a while. I did some poking around online and found that there was the possibility of a driver error so I enabled Verifier.exe and rebooted and the computer would BSOD immediately after the Windows logo comes "flying in".

Now, I can operate the computer in safe mode so I booted into it and disabled verifier and I'm now able to boot into Windows regularly again, albeit it BSOD's pretty soon afterward. I wouldn't really have a problem as the HDD is under warranty BUT because I bought it from some little shop nearby and he upgraded it to a 750 from 640, HP won't replace the 750 and I'll be damned if I'm out 90gb's.

I have bluescreenviewer on the laptop and can view the crash report but it's not very helpful, it blames: ntoskrnl.exe+5053dc

Anyone have any advice? I can supply any additional info you guys want. Also I'll screenshot the bluescreenviewer page later as I can't do it right this minute.

Oh, I also ran the HP diagnostics and it returned as FAILED on the HDD every time, memory passed as did the other tests.

Thanks guys!

Post the bluescreen results and if you have read the steps on how to zip-upload the driver verifier txt report, please attach it next time. You can also use Windows error checking tool together with a report for the hard drive status. Make sure to backup any important documents first. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html

Hello again. This is a follow up thread to my first one and since it didn't get solved, I thought I'd explain my problem in a little more detail. My laptop has never really had any problems since I got it last August however in the past few weeks I've had this consistantly reoccuring problem that's driving me crazy. What happens is, I use my computer as always like any other person and suddenly my laptop will stop loading things. I have tried everything I can think of in order to get rid of the problem. I have scanned my whole computer for viruses on McAfee and one other virus scanner that was recommended to me on my other thread, I have reinstalled chrome several times and I have also constantly checked for updates to my laptop. When the issue occures, my laptop acts likes it's completely lost connection to the wifi even though it says it hasn't. My chrome tab just goes blank when I open a new window and everything else on the tab(s) I already had open stop loading too. When I try to close chrome, that is when my computer starts becoming unresponsive. I even try to turn it off when this happens. After about 20 seconds of unresponsiveness my computer will suddenly perform all these inputs resulting in my computer turning off of course. Although when I just wait for the chrome window to load it takes about 20-60 seconds to do so. This happens literally every 2-5 minutes so it's starting to waste a lot of my time. Can anybody please help? I'm begging you!

My Acer Aspire One D255E notebook is only a couple of months old and has started turning itself off unexpectedly.
First I noticed when I closed the lid it started to turn off rather than just sleep. When I opened it up I would get a message on a black screen giving me the option to restart or delete something to restart (sorry i didn't really understand this message), only the second option worked and just seemed to have the same effect as restarting but quicker!
Now it also turns off randomly when I am using it.
I don't think it is over heating, there is no sign of this. It turns itself back on straightaway without me having to do anything.
The screen just suddenly goes black and has a small white flashing line in the top right corner, then reboots itself, all programs closed and unsaved data lost, but working fine again as though I just turned it on.
I'd be grateful for any advice, thanks a lot

A:Anyone know how to stop my laptop turning itself off randomly?

Sounds like some sort of power problem.

If it's only a couple of months old you should call up and get it checked under the warranty.

Reboot to safe mode. Instructions can be found here http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

Navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Boot back to Windows normally now.

Maybe that will boost your pc a bit.

I need some serious help.

My laptop Dell XPS M1210 won't start, at start up all I get is a blu screen saying that there is a problem.....
this is what appears at the bottom of the page

Stop: 0X00000007E (0XC0000005, 0XF78A6514, 0XF78A6210)

NDIS.SYS - address F7610B2C base at F7607000, datestamp 487d823e
Even restarting in Safe Mode won't work, it would go back to that blue screen.
The Dell - Symantec restore function CTRL - F11 too is not working.
Browsing the net I read that a way to fix it would be to perfom a repair operation starting the laptop with the windows XP disk in the cd drive. I am worried about losing the files on the hard disk though, would they be deleted? I do backups often but i need the new files on the laptop too.

Can anyone tell me how do that repair operation in a step by step guide?
Is that really the only option left?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I have a laptop that will not stop connecting to a network--apparently the user clicked the "connect automatically" box and nothing I do will stop this.  I have tried changing the properties to remove the connect automatically setting--it
does not retain the changes.  I tried removing the password--it will not let me do that.  I even tried removing the registry key network profile for that network and it STILL connected.  Is there any way to override these settings and permanently
delete this network?  The only way I can keep it from connecting is to disable the adapter completely; of course, this also prevents me from connecting to the correct networks as well.

Huge design flaw if someone clicks the "connect automatically" box and there is no way to remove it.  Bad move.
Please advise.

Okay so I have a Toshiba Satelite Laptop running Windows XP Pofessional. (Thats all the specs I can get since it wont boot up and allow me to get detailed specs). Long story shor tthe laptop worked fine as I had used it for work I recently had a problem where it froze and Ctrl Alt Delete wouldnt bring up the task manager so I just held the power buttin to power it down... and then that's when the trouble started. After this I go to start it again it goes through the normal start up sequence but then it says that Windows was not shut down properly and gives me the option to restart normally, in safe mode or with the last none configurations that worked. I have tried all of them and the only result is it reboots back to the Toshiba screen and then back to ways I can start it again and even when I shut it down it powers back up and tries to reboot starting the same problem all over again. Any ideas how to fix this??

Thanks In Advance,

Chris

A:Laptop wont stop rebooting!

I had a similar situation with one of my clients and this is what I did to solve the problem.

1. You need a copy of the WinXP CD
2. Insert it into the CD/DVD drive
3. Enter BIOS setup and change the boot order to CD to get your system to boot from CD. I assume you
know how else read about it here:

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ss/bootorderchange.htm

4. Quickly hit any Key when prompted to boot from CD
5. Let it boot up and when you are Given the options to
install Windows now press enter
to repair windows press R etc....You must press R to repair

6. In the recovery console (should be a black screen) Type: chkdsk /r and let it run
7. once it is done type exit
8. eject your CD and let the system reboot itself

Hope that works..it did for me. All the best.

Okay this is the first time i've posted on a forum but I can't stand this problem I've been having.

I bought a new laptop not too long ago for gaming and music production. After installing black ops 2 and trying to play the story the computer crashed and i got a blue screen an the only way to resolve this was to pull out the battery. This also happened whilst playing online. Eventually I got fed up and thought it may have been something to do with not installing it properly. So i decided to factory restore the laptop to start fresh. I installed the game again and got the same crash. (I also had to put the settings on the lowest possible for it to play well as well) I updated everything e.g. BIOS, Video cards, Service pack, Everything. I still got this crash. About a month later I decided to run to midi controllers at the same time in different programs and I got a blue screen similar to the gaming problem and it was saying bad pool error. Soo i'm almost certain that this is a hardware problem but i dont understand how as this was a brand new and expensive laptop and i'm not eager to be spending lots on new hardware to fix this.

Here are my specs:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
System Model: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC
BIOS: InsydeH2O Version 03.60.48F.1B
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz (8 CPUs)
Memory: 8192MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11

Name: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family

Also running an AMD Radeon (TM) HD ... Read more

A:New laptop wont stop crashing!!

i would definitely call tech support on this one, the warranty should cover hardware if it's not too late. on the troubleshooting side, other than the game and the midi controllers, has the problem showed anywhere else? maybe when running other games or anything? right click on computer and hit manage. when the window opens, click the plus sign by event viewer and the one by windows and click on system. if you right click on system and choose create custom log, you can check the boxes by critical, error, and warning to get rid of the junk. call it sys logs and then click the plus sign by custom logs and click on it and look for the error messages and copy the text into bing and see what happens. but you may want to call tech support anyway to see if there are any known issues on this laptop.

Try a different keyboard. If it's OK you know that was the problem.
