I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, See if you can remove the Admin Password - see Here.  When done, try option 1 in my previous post.  Otherwise, the only other options are to order Recovery Disc, or if notebook came with Windows 7, try the following. There may be a work around if you have ( or can borrow ) a retail Windows 7 installation disc that is exactly the same version as your OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the exact retail version you would need. If you have access to this, just use the retail disc to perform the installation, enter the activation key found on the underside of your notebook when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations. http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx Any additional drivers you may need can be found starting Here. Regards, DP-K?

Unfortunately, the recovery media is not a downloadable product. If the notebook is older than three years, the recovery media is no longer maintained in inventory nor sold by HP. If the recovery partition was deleted, then  recovery by pressing F11 and using the recovery manager is no longer a viable option. Which language do you need for the Windows 8.1 ISO? Is it Russian? I am basing that on the product number you provided. Try the following Microsoft global website to download a Windows 8.1 ISO.https://www.microsoft.com/ru-ru/software-download/windows8

I have a ProBook 4430s running Windows 7 64-bit. A year ago I made the mistake of upgrading to Windows 10. Prior to performing this upgrade I was able to access my 5G wifi connection. After the upgrade I was no longer able to find this connection. I was only able to find the 2.4g band. I researched the issue and it seemed that I needed to find and install an upgraded wifi driver. After much more research and trying different drivers I was unable to accomplish my desired goal. I finally decided to bag Win10 and go back to Win7. I reinstalled Win7 64-bit. However, I am still unable to find the 5G band. My next step seems to be to try to recover the laptop to factory settings and see if that fixes the issue. However, I can't seem to find the factory reset. Can anyone offer assistance on one of the two following options? 1. Running the factory reset program.2. Alternatives on finding the right driver or method of turning the 5G wifi band back on. Thanks much Doug [email protected]

Hello @Doug_Harding Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting. This is a public forum visible for the entire world. The forum is full of users like you, volunteers like me and some HP employees. You do not communicate with HP Support officially here. Please, edit your comment to remove your personal email from your post to avoid issues with fake emails/spammers/etc.   If you want to return the PC to factory default condition and if you never created your own HP recovery media,  you will have to use original HP recovery media. In order to use the correct kit, it is very important to find your product number (PN) - here is how >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108 Write the PN down. After that, please, visit this 3rd party company's website >> http://www.computersurgeons.com/search.aspx?searchterm=4430s and search for the correct recovery media based on your product number. After you receive the media, you will need to boot from them (first one). Here are the full instructions >> http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=HPSystemRecovery.net&as=true&section=ccweb&SFS=tdoc&language... Follow the instructions. Hope this helps. Dear All,

i have a HP Probook 4520s (now out of warranty) and i want to bring the same to factory condition bcoz of virus issues.

Now, on various forums i read there is an option of F11 for recovery manager, which is not working in my case.

1) In Disk management I can see my recovery partition (15 gb) but with no option of making it active.

2) My recovery partion is more like a folder in C: HP_RECOVERY_mountHPSF

What can be the best way to restore to the factory condition. This is a legitimate Windows 7 copy and therefore i do not want to install some other copy, also there could be issues with drivers and all.

I would really appreciate if the forum members can help me in resolving the issue.

Attempted to up-date to Windows 10. Couldn't do it. Microsoft (MS) Tech tried to do it and couldn't do it. It seems there are some security tools that must be removed as they are incompatable with Windows 10. MS tried to remove and couldn't do it. He said they were on the mother board and when he tried to remove them they just kept coming back so once again he couldn't do it. He said contact HP and they could do it. Unable to find anybody at HP that can do it. As you can see nobody can do it so I guess it just cannot be done. That is unless some fine person out there has discovered a way to do it. If thats the case please tell me ho wo do it.

I have a new ProBook 4540s notebook that I shut down over the weekend. I am not sure if I put it into hibernate, sleep, or what as I am still getting use to it. When I tried to turn it on (not plugged in) I got nothing. So I plugged in the power cord and hit the power button again. All it did was the LED above the cord plug blinked about 8 times and nothing else. I let it "charge" overnight and tried again in the morning. Nothing but a blinking LED. I Googled the problem and it said to take the battery out, unplug, and hold the power button down for 20 seconds. I plugged it back in but left the battery out, and still the same thing - flashing LED. HELP! Thanks.

Hello! My ProBook 4540s was working fine until a half hour ago, when I unplugged it to move it and then attempted to plug it back in, and it stopped charging.  When plugging in the power cord (that came with the ProBook when I bought it around 18 months ago), the light above the power jack (and no other lights) flashes white 9 times. I've tried following this fix I found on Google: 1. Turn off the notebook2. remove the battery3. remove the charging adapter4. press + hold the power button for 40 seconds5. insert the charging adaptor only6. press the power button and it supposedly continues but I get stuck at this point, because even plugged in, my ProBook won't start up without the battery in also. Is this a know problem/is there a fix for this?

I am just wondering whether I can put a eGPU on my HP Probook 4540s to play some of the more modern games and some of the games that are a few years old now on something like high to ultra graphics. I'm thinking something along the line of a NVIDIA GTX 960 or 970ish. I actually even found some GeForce GTX 1050's at a cheaper price so is there a way I could connect something like that to this laptop. It would be cheaper then trying to save for an actual gaming rig at this time. Thank you for any replies its much appreciated.

Hey guys, newcomer here

Anyways, I've had a Toshiba Laptop for a while now with Windows 7. Over time, I've installed lots of software I don't really need. So now, my computer is pretty slow to start up and the general speed has had a significant drop. So instead of taking time to uninstall all the programs I don't need (which will still probably leave me with lots of dead links and a very messy registry), I decided it would be better to just do a clean install. However, being the cheap dudess Laptop manufacturers usually are, Toshiba has not provided me with a Windows 7 install disk, and being the lazy guy I am, I did not create a system restore disk when I got the Laptop. I looked at the Microsoft backup programs, but my restore points only go a few months back. If I don't find a way to start with a clean state on Windows 7, I may just have to dig up that old XP CD

TL;DR: I need a way to restore Windows 7 to the point as if it was just after a fresh install without a Windows 7 CD or prior system images/recovery points.
Thanks all, cheers!

A:restore to factory settings.

When you say you did a restore are we talking about the Windows System Restore feature, or did you use the original restore discs that came with your laptop? If you haven't tried already, assuming you have them to hand, try them and see how it goes. Also how far does your 'personal info' stretch, is it just files and folders or does this also include applications and settings you set up after original purchase? If it's just files you want to lift from the laptop you could just use an external hard drive or USB flash drive if you have one, and simply drag and drop the files onto there. Finally, can you please post your system specifications here? This may help us to better assist you.

Post back here and let me know how this goes, or if you still have problems.

I have recently had some serious problems with my computer, so I figured I should do a restore to factory settings, but I have also been having problems with that.

When I try to do it from the control panel, the computer restarts, but instead of the recovery options like normal, it gives a Windows boot error: 0xc000000f. I ran the Windows startup repair multiple times from the disk, but it still says the same thing.

When I try to do it by pressing F11 repeatedly during startup, it does the same thing.

When I try to do it from the Recovery Management section on the Repair Disk, the option to factory restore is greyed out.

I have access to my desktop, but it is extremely slow, so I prefer not to do anything involving that, but any ideas on how to fix this will be greatly appreciated.

I have an Asus F3F. I have been trying all of the functions to bring up the restore screen on startup (F9 is the one I have tried most as this is the applicable one) and the screen will just not come up.

Now I changed the name of the D: drive and converted it from FAT32 to NTFS as FAT32 would not let me download single files in excess of 4GB. In trying to restore, the computer has made a new drive called F: RESTORE which is in FAT32.

Now I know the obvious answer is to use a recovery disc, however my disc drive is broken and I am unable to do this. So did converting my D: drive kill the recovery partition or is it something else?

Any help would be much appreciated as my computer is running awfully and a restore would help no end to clear off all the junk.

Restore the Factory Settings in XP Without a CD

WARNING: When you restore a computer to the original factory settings, you will lose all files, documents and programs that have been added to the system's hard drive. In most cases, this loss should be considered permanent.

1) Restart the computer.

2) Press the "F8" key after the computer reboots but before the "Windows" logo appears on the screen. You should now see the "Advanced Boot" menu.

3)Scroll down through the menu options using the down arrow key. Stop when "Repair Your Computer" is highlighted and hit the "Enter" key.

4)Select the language you wish to use and press the "Enter" key.

5) Type in the computer's administrator ID and password. Press the "Enter" key.

6) Scroll through the options using the down arrow key. Choose "Restore (name of computer manufacturer) Settings." Press the "Enter" key.

7) Choose "Yes" when asked if you want to reformat the hard drive.

8) Press the "Enter" key to begin the reformatting process. The process takes a few minutes, so be patient. Do not turn off the computer or attempt to stop the process after it has begun, or this may result in major damage to the hard drive.

9) Choose "Finish" and press the "Enter" key to restart the computer. The computer will restart with the original factory settings

i would like to restore my laptop(Compaq Presario V2000) back to factory settings. my uncle gave me his old LT when he bought a new one. he did not have any recovery CD's and the built in ones had already been created and therefore i can not burn my personal copy of recover cd's from the LT itself. i have recently had a battle of serious viruses, trojans, and etc. my last battle i was receiving help to rid the backdoor rootkit(i think it was a rootkit) Zero.Access. i was instructed to use the combofix app. once it ran and attempted to reboot i had completely lost access to my KYBD and mouse(pad) on 12/12/11. still using the help i was told to run combofix again on the 14th in which a restore point was made along the registry restore. i was told 2days ago to run a registry restore within combofix to try to get the kybd and mouse working. the restore point created is not on the date in which the problem occurred. i was then instructed to do a sys restore before using combofix which was on the 12th. there are several restore points for the month of december as well as 3points before the 12th and one point on the 12th. i have tried to access all of those points but my computer will not let me gain access to the sys restore. i have tried to do the restore in safe mode with no luck. i would just like to start over and do clean sweep of the LT but i dont have any disc. i was wondering if there is a way to do this.

Didn't you get documentation on how to do a system recovery back to factory specs?

If you can't remember a password, you should write it down and put it in a safe place, or don't use a password.

I'm trying to restore my vista acer aspire 5536 to factory settings simply so I can make a fresh start with the laptop. I get to the boot screen, hit enter on repair my computer and get to the system recovery console. Then I click complete PC restore and I get an error message saying:

'A valid backup location could not be found. Attach the backup hard disc or insert the final dvd from a backup set'

I dont have any discs. Is there a workaround?

A:Restore to factory settings

You should be able to get disc's here.

PS, What is wrong with your computer? We have a lot of great Tech's here that should be able to help you get it running again. Restoring the computer back to when you received it is a real long process with getting everything up to date again.

My son has an Acer Aspire 6930 laptop. It came with Vista, but he let a friend put a bootlegged copy of Win 7 on it.

Now he just wants to reset the whole thing back to factory settings, but we've been unable to do so. When I try alt and F10, the following comes up:

Edit Windows boot options for: Windows 7
Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Partition: 3
Hard Disk: 91a9ef1d

and then there's a white, non-blinking cursor after it.
In the left bottom corner, it says Enter=Submit
In the right, ESC=Cancel

So, the two questions are:

1. Can the laptop be restored back to factory settings, and
2. Can Vista be put back?

We have no restore or recovery disks.

A:Trying to do a restore to factory settings

seems you have to enter BIOS to enable recovery disk in boot menu.

your manual here . http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Document/User%20Manual/AS_GE_1.0_A_Eng.zip?acerid=633646694786956080&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%206930&OS=721&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_4

you could first check in Disk Management to make sure the Recovery Partition is still there as your helpful friend may have nuked it for the Win7 install.

firstly i got a BHO.DLL error message when i logged on which i tried to solve and was unsuccesful.
When i try to defrag my hard drive it reaches 2% and i get BsoD saying Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error
I have tried to run chkdsk /r through the command prompt and the process makes it as far as reading the free sectors and crashes at 55%

A:Cannot restore to factory settings

Sound very much like the hard drive is "on it's way out" as in "starting to fail".
Immediately back up your data to another drive if you can, before the drive fails completely.

To confirm that the drive is failing, you can test it with "Seagate SeaTools for DOS" (it doesn't have to be a Seagate drive to use the Seagate testing software). Get it here: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.j...toid=480bd20cacdec010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD

You will need to create a CD from the downloaded ISO file (instructions for doing this are on the download page).
You then boot your faulty PC from that CD to run the hard drive test.
